I tried to upload the 7.603 Mid Tier manual but it was too big and got

Re: Data Load Console Confusion!

2013-08-01 Thread Vyom Labs Support
Hi,

  There are 21 spread sheet tabs(sheet(tab) 2 CTM:People and tab 15
CTM:PeopleWorklog) on the spreadsheet file People.xls which we keep in
folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\BMC
Software\DataManagementClient\7.6\Spreadsheets\Foundation.

After converting this file to CSV we import this CSV Files, So when data
gets imported before promoting we need to validate it.

So for resolving the issue of 108:invalid person which is on tab 15
CTM:PeopleWorklog we need to validate all the records on the tab 2
CTM:People.

Errors on the tab(sheet) 2 can be like 118-invalid company, 119-invalid
department, 162-invalid client type. we need to correct these errors first
then validate again error 108-Invalid Person gets resolved.

ARS 7.6.04 patch1

ITSM 7.6.04

Windows 2008 R2 Server running against MS SQL. Running user tool on the
server.

I've uploaded via the Data Load Console about 4 records into the People
form. Now, I'm trying to load associated Work Log/work history.

I'm using the People spreadsheet and have loaded tab 15 with the
information. Everything is being loaded with an Activity Type of General
Information. Each entry has the same Person ID as the corresponding record
already in CTM:People.

The problem that I am having is every record when I validate is coming back
with an error 108 - Invalid Person.

I've followed the workflow on the CTM:LoadPeopleWorkLog form, and from what
I see, the person id should be validated almost immediately as the record
exists in CTM:People, but obviously, something is going wrong

Has anybody ever seen this happen before?

2013-08-01 Thread Kemes, Lisa A DLA CTR INFORMATION OPERATIONS
Thanks Stuart,

I'm assuming my workflow works, because it works in the User Tool just
fine. I also run the report in CR Developer and it works just fine
(invoking the ODBC Client).

I even took an out of the box .rpt that BMC uses and connected it to my
form in CR Developer, deleted all the fields, added one of my field from
my form, added it to my record in the Report form and it's still giving
me this error as though I need a Crystal Report server location from
report settings configuration page.

Thank you for answering my main question though. It SHOULD work
(without a CR Server), and that's what I wanted to make sure.

I even took another out of the box .rpt file, created a query on one of
the fields and ran the report, invoking the ODBC client and I typed in
MY credentials. Saved the report and readded it back to the CI Ticket
record on the Report form. Works just fine.

Must be my workflow. If anyone has any other things I should look into,
I'd appreciate it!

Thank you!!

As long as the .rpt report is defined correctly in Remedy and has
appropriate w/f flow to trigger it and provide it the data then you do
not need to have Crystal Reports Server. Remedy itself will handle the
invocation and display.

Have you checked that the report works external to Remedy using the CR

I believe I have CR Developer on my PC. We do have Crystal Reports

sure that I could still create a report using CR Developer, create a

any problems.

sigh I'll keep chugging through. :)

for the CI Ticket workflow, they run a process:

I added this run process to my workflow and now I get a different error:

Given this description it brings up the question as to why you would NOT want
it.
Upgrades, etc. can take days of downtime during the process with no
availability while
it’s happening. It sounds like most of the synchronizing has been worked out
and not
much work remains – so why not do the sprint to the finish line with it? I’d
vote for it
especially so my customers can have a seamless experience (and so I don’t have
to spend
weekends at work and on the phone to get it up and running……).  Why vote?
You’re
almost there. Do it.

Tom (and others who responded),

The feature of zero-down time and the demonstration at WWRUG 2012 was a lab
demo to show a
concept that we had taken from design into prototype to gage interest from the
customer base.

To be clear, it is not present in any release of the product at this time.

We are still gaging customer interest and I will say unfortunately, the
interest expressed in this topic has
not been as strong as several of us expected.  There is interest – don't get
me wrong – but there are other
things that are generating much more concern from customers.  There is still a
contingent struggling to get
this capability added to an upcoming release – but nothing has made it yet.

The functionality we demonstrated was true zero-down time.  It creates
parallel metadata tables with new
and old definitions and different servers pointing to different sets – ALL ON
THE SAME DATA TABLES.  Lots of
work went in to handle deleted fields (delete is deferred because the old
version is still using the fields) and
to even handle cases where archgid changes field IDs (extra view forms are put
in place so that both old and
new use the IDs they expect and all is in place).

Both old and new versions of the applications were available and running
through different servers in the
server group so you could confirm that all was ready before you flipped the
switch.

If any system went down, it came back up looking at its set of definitions so
everything is robust and
recoverable while in this mixed mode.

We went so far as to have servers running the old app have a signal to load
and prepare the new definitions
in the background while continuing to run the old version so when they were
signaled to go live, they finished
any current API call in the old version and any new API call started working
with the new version for absolute
zero down time transition at the server.

This means that any program or integration has zero interruption or disruption.

Now, the interactive user through the mid-tier has the issue of caching.
Depending on whether an immediate
update occurs or you are just going to let the next interval check do it, it
may be instant to a few minutes
before the updates are reflected to the client and there is going to be a
performance slowdown that will be
noticeable as things are reloaded (kind of like a first time reload after
mid-tier startup) and then changed
screens will show up.  So, they are never down, but there is a short time of
affect on interaction of users.

This is not fantasy as we have prototyped it and it was what was demonstrated
at WWRUG and it does work.

If you have not entered your vote for this feature on the BMC Communities AR
System thread Ideas entry
for this feature (this is an area where you or BMC posts enhancement requests
and the community can vote
on it to show interest – higher vote totals help push features up the list for
implementation), please enter
your vote to show support for the idea.

This does not mean no work for the Administrator during an upgrade, but it
means no end user outage for
an upgrade.  It should also help reliability and success of an upgrade in a
dramatic way as you can test and
verify and make any corrections in the new version before go live.  It also
should remove the I have to do
everything under time pressure in the middle of the night on a weekend issue
to avoid customer downtime
as much as possible topic.  So, a win for everyone all around.

I hope this confirms and clarifies this capability, what it is and where it is.

Make sure that the path is set to the context root of the mid tier.

Automate Change Work Info Notes

2013-08-01 Thread Brittain, Mark
Hi All,

In Remedy 6.3 we have a Change Request with a maintenance tab. On that tab are
the fields: Implementation Plan, Risk Advanced Testing, Test Plan, Acceptance
Plan and Rollback. I also have workflow in place to force the users to fill
out these fields. Now that we have moved to ITSM 7.6.04 I need to implement
something similar but would prefer not to add these fields if I really don't
have to do so.

In the Work Info Notes there are Work Info Types Such as Install Plan, Test
Plan and Backout Plan. One thought is that if certain conditions are met, a set
of filters would create the Work Info Notes. Anyone done something like this?
If so how did you do it and what was the condition that executed the Work Order
Notes creation?

Thanks
Mark

2013-08-01 Thread pascale . sterrett
Deyon,

We are on Websphere 8 with the latest patch.
It is a clustered environment without the session replication enabled.
We have the session affinity (sticky bit) done between F5 and the web
servers.
And yes we have applied all the KA377228 recommended configurations

On a side note, in the Application Server configuration tool in websphere,
where you enable the cookies, make sure that they click on the enable
cookies to set the context path to the mid tier root path.
Our web server team missed that part. Took almost a month to resolve that
issue Just saying
Thank you,

Re: Data Load Console Confusion!

2013-08-01 Thread Warren R. Baltimore II
I found the problem.

It's a bug. The filter CTM:SHR:ValidatePersonExist_203 is attempting to
validate the user id on the worklog entry against CTM:People. The problem
is that it is using the qualification 'Person ID' = $Person ID$.

Person ID on the CTM:People form is the entry id field! Person ID on the
work log form is the user id. It will never work.
This filter is there to allow you to validate information that had already
been promoted but not in the staging forms anymore. But in it's current
form will never work.

 Hi,

   There are 21 spread sheet tabs(sheet(tab) 2 CTM:People and tab 15

 folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\BMC

I've uploaded via the Data Load Console about 4 records into the

I'm using the People spreadsheet and have loaded tab 15 with the
information. Everything is being loaded with an Activity Type of General
Information. Each entry has the same Person ID as the corresponding record
 already in CTM:People.

The problem that I am having is every record when I validate is coming
back with an error 108 - Invalid Person.

I've followed the workflow on the CTM:LoadPeopleWorkLog form, and from
what I see, the person id should be validated almost immediately as the
record exists in CTM:People, but obviously, something is going wrong**

It is now time to VOTE for this years ARSList MVP and BMC Beyond the

which allows us to have a larger pool of nominees than would normally be
available, which brings its own challenges. The voting will run 4 weeks
this year. I'm going to run it as several voting rounds with people being
eliminated, and by the final round have finalists. This year we have a
record number of nominees. Here are the rules.

 * Voting starts now and ends Sunday August 18th at 5PM EST
 * Voting is by the Individual REAL person, so redistribution lists don't
vote, your identity must be known, and those that have multiple
subscriptions still get only one vote
 * BMC Software employees on the ARSList are eligible to vote
 * All decisions of myself or the oversight panel are final (if I have to
make a controversial decision, I confer with 3 past MVP winners for their
 opinion)
 * The Award will be made on Thursday October 3rd at WWRUG13: Award
Ceremony during the WWRUG Awards keynote. [no one knows the winner(s) until
then, well okay, except me and Daniel]
 * *PLEASE SEND VOTES TO arslistawa...@wwrug.com FOR THEM TO COUNT*

 MVP VOTING FORMAT:
Each Person voting gets to vote for their top 3 picks. 1st, 2nd, 3rd,
each position has a weight to it. At the end of 2 weeks, we will have a
runoff of the top 3 nominees where we will use the same format, which
should give us a clear winner, if a tie does occur, we will cull the 3rd
place votes and see if that gives a winner. In the unlikely event that we
still don't have a winner, then just the top 1 vote will count. If then,
we still have a tie, Daniel and I will confer with past winners to break
 the tie.

 MVP Nominees are
*Axton Grams* - Winner of the MVP in 2006, he is a steady member of the
community that provides resources both on and off list. His nomination
this year called out his knowledge of integrations and server setups as a
key factor of his helpful nature.
*Carl Wilson* - While a relative newcomer to the ARSList, Carl has been
part of the BMC Remedy community for quite a few years and since joining
the list has helped many members with a variety of problems. His
nomination this year specifically called out his knowledge on SRM and ITSM.
*Clair Sanford* - Clair is a staple of the ARSList, both asking
questions and answering other peoples questions. Her nomination this year
didn't call out any specific areas of expertise, but instead discussed her
general knowledge and willingness to help anyone.
*David Easter* - David is an ever present authority an all things
Remedy. His nomination this year discussed his in depth knowledge of
documentation, quite often with links to the official BMC pages. His posts
are always thought out and detailed in nature.
*Frederick W Grooms* - A modern day renaissance man, Fred's nomination
this year speaks to a man of many talents from workflow and upgrades to OS
issues and more. He often provides details that obviously require
investigation and work on his end before responding.
*Jason Miller* - Often the purveyor of arcane knowledge, Jason is
willing to help people both on and off list. His nomination this year
stated that Jason is so helpful in so many areas that it's hard to pinpoint
 specific areas of specialty.
*Laurent Matheo* - Laurent is new to the ARSList, but not new to
Remedy. After meeting him at last years RUG event and telling him that the
ARSList is 'where it's at', he happily joined the list and has become a
regular fixture seeming to specialize in thinking outside the box and
finding creative solutions to everyday problems.
*Mark Brittain* - There almost isn't a day that goes by that you don't
find Mark posting a question or answering one on the ARSList. He is quite
often ready to either come up with a creative solution to your problem, or
point you to BMC Documentation on how to do it.
*Tauf Choudhury* - Tauf takes the ARSList to a whole different level by
answering his posts while on the go. Tauf regularly posts

I understand the 'reason' behind the NDAand it's not really an
NDA...more of a contractthe wording of it is a bit harsh...but
basically they have probably been bitten before with bringing a person to a
prospective client, and then had that consultant go directly to the
customer and get hired, removing them from the mix, and cutting out their
'cut' of the moneythe part that is 'limiting' in their power on this
seems to be the part that Lisa latched onto of 'Introduced by the
Company'so basically, this is limiting their power to not be all
companies that they do business with, but companies that you came to, as
part of your relationship with 'the Company'while I'm not lawyer, I
don't see anything all that harmful in this contract.

Re: Crystal Reports - Why doesn't mine work?

2013-08-01 Thread Jason Miller
Running a Crystal Report in MT requires Crystal Server. The User Tool
installs and uses the CR libraries needed to display a Crystal Report. A
web browser cannot natively run a CR and needs Crystal Server to render the
report.

Stuart when you said As long as the .rpt report is defined correctly
in Remedy and has appropriate w/f flow to trigger it and provide it the
data then you do not need to have Crystal Reports Server. Remedy itself
will handle the invocation and display. Did you mean through the

I'd like to get this working in the MidTier. It works just fine in User
 Tool.

 Thanks!

OK, I think I'm getting one step closer, on the out of the box workflow
for the CI Ticket workflow, they run a process:
PERFORM-ACTION-SET-PREFERENCE 23235 1. This sets the ODBC User
Underscores field to Yes on the AR System User Preference form.

I added this run process to my workflow and now I get a different error:

Error during processing: ARERR [9246] Cannot find report report name

Lisa if you have Crystal reports server on your PC then your midtier can
use it you just need to install a midtier portion on your Crystal
reports server and it will show, However I have a sneaking suspicion
that you actually have Chris or reports developer on your PC and not
Krista reports server which is like the $14,000 version so just check
 that

In Asset Management, I see that on any CI, there is a Print button.
When I dug (and dug and dug and dug) through the workflow of this, I
found that it's opening a Crystal Report called AST_CI.rpt. This is
attached to the Report Name CI Ticket on the Report form.

When I click on the print button it works just fine in our midtier.

I have a custom form and I created a Crystal Report file (.rpt) and
created a record on the Report form (just like the CI Ticket record),
but when I try to click on MY print button, I get Error during
processing: ARERR [9260] Report location is missing from report
settings configuration page. Please see your administrator.

We do not have a Crystal Report server set up but I do have Crystal
Reports installed on my PC so I can create the rpt files. (Crystal
  Reports XI).

I even took the AST_CI.rpt file and updated it with my info and form
and attached it to my record in the Report form and I'm still getting
  the same error.

  Why?

Thanks Jason, I thought so, but another developer is insisting this is
not true.

But I'm still confused. Out of the box workflow to print a CI uses a
.rpt file.

Specifically this workflow. As you can see they are passing the Report
target as Crystal and it's opening up the report called CI Ticket on the
Report form. Just wondering why it works for OOB but not customization.
Magic? :)

2013-08-01 Thread Stroud, Natalie K
Scott:

I do see where the guy is coming from – he’s looking after his own interests,
and I can understand his wanting to do that. I can even imagine a few
experiences which may have prompted the writing of that particular NDA. I
think the problem is, he’s so busy looking after his own interests that he
doesn’t really think about how confining the arrangement being proposed is for
the people he’s claiming to serve by hooking them up with prospective
employers. I can’t imagine anyone except someone desperate agreeing to that.
While it can be helpful to work with recruiters, that particular arrangement
seems a bit too one-sided in his side’s favor to me.

And if he’s pressuring you, on the one hand, I can appreciate that he’s out
hustling to try and find people, but on the other, he really does need to leave
things up to you. Letting people make their own decisions is basic respect,
and if he has a valid position with competitive wages to offer, he shouldn’t
need to pressure you – you’re either interested or you’re not. So either he’s
a basically decent guy who is simply trying too hard or else he’s a
not-so-decent sort with some other agenda motivating him.

Personally, I’d probably steer clear. I see enough yellow flags here that
working with “the Company” seems like a risk I’d prefer to avoid.

You can always counter the NDA and send back your own wording for them to agree
to. I absolutely would not agree to pay the liquidation penalty (most likely
the recruiter's fee which is normally based upon the negotiated salary) and
then an addition 10k. All this recruiter would have to do is blast fax your
resume out and then he/ she has introduced you to every company whether they
are hiring or not.
I agree though that if something makes you uncomfortable then don't do it.
There are plenty of other agencies and opportunities out there.

3) The Company agrees to pay Me an hourly stipend (Stipend) of $125 for each
Evaluatory interview. The Stipend begins when I leave My home and ends upon My
return to said home. The Stipend shall be remitted to Me within 14 days of
said Evaluatory interview. The Company agrees to reimburse within 60 days any

4) In the event the Company breaches the provisions of this Agreement, the

Re: Recruiters Odd NDA

2013-08-01 Thread Howard Richter
An NDA before the job offer. Something is not passing the smell test here.
Also I have an issue with the line is marketing your skills and for a
period of 3 months thereafter. I have seen them for a certain job (for
example only he can represent you for job order xxx at Google). But this is
to vague, at least for me.

Unless you need the work, I would run away.

Just my 3 cents,

Howard

I agree with John. Play fairly and it all works out. If you don't want to,
why bother.

It will take them more than $10,000 to sue you . they won't.

Scare tactic . play fairly ... and it all works out.

Re: Recruiters Odd NDA

2013-08-01 Thread David Ferguson
It's basically just saying that you won't cut the recruiter out the deal by
taking a job directly with the firm he introduced you to. I've never used
a recruiter so I don't know how standard this is but with hiring companies
out there screwing recruiters out of their fees it looks like he is just
putting the penalty on you if you take a job outside of him with any
company he had sent your resume to or had you interview with.

The only thing you can't really control is who he shares your resume with,
so that would be the piece to remove or alter. He needs to have a
penalty clause with his customer for that not you.

Yes, I have seen this sort of non-compete agreement before, but I think this
is the first I have seen where they specify the damages.

 Did I over react?

Does it matter what we think? In the end you have to assess what it is about
the document that bothers you enough that you will not sign it (and thus will
not get the chance at the job … at least through this recruiter).

If I were being asked to sign the document, I would amend it in the following
ways:

1. The specific company you will be interviewing with must be stated in the
letter. I know they will get paranoid about letting you know the name but you
can counter that in two ways:

  a. Knowing the name of the company does not tell you which
Division/Department/Branch/whatever needs the work done, nor does it tell you
the contact information of the hiring manager.

  b. You need to protect yourself, to ensure that ANOTHER recruiter does not
also claim to introduce you to the same company, putting you in double
jeopardy.

2. Limit the recruitment on your behalf to just this one opportunity. If he
really has an opportunity…

3. Spell out that introduction means that you obtain an interview. The
recruiter sending your resume to someone does not count, as that is a one-way
introduction.

4. Cut the penalty down to $1,000, unless he is willing to spell out exactly
how the damages are significant. Put another way, he has to prove, either in
writing before the fact, or in court after the fact, that the damages and
expenses are material.

5. Cut the time down to one month after the last interview date. No one looking
to hire is going to wait more than one month for you to come on board, so why
should you be on the hook longer?

I love the stuff people put in contracts and agreements. You probably took him
aback by actually reading it! Good for you.

RUG 2000+ shirts

2013-08-01 Thread A R Kosch
Hello ARSLISTers.

(I remain extremely grateful for the support this list provided me over the
years while I maintained/managed Remedy at Kansas State University!)

I want to freecycle some of my Remedy RUG shirts (see inventory below) to
anyone who wants them. I am retired now and am downsizing. I'm happy to mail
them within the US. Don't care if someone wants only one.

RUG 2000 polo short sleeves light greenish color M 100% cotton
RUG 2001 polo short sleeves white L 100% cotton
RUG 2003 t-shirt w/ high ribbed collar long sleeves medium gray S 90% cotton
10% poly
RUG 2004 polo w/ white trim short sleeves black S 100% cotton
RUG 2004 Remedy Support 2004 World Tour t-shirt short sleeves black S 100%
cotton
RUG 2005 polo long sleeves white S 50% cotton 50% poly

I thought I always asked for larger shirts but I guess my memory is fading! If
you have questions you can email me directly (arkosch at k-state.edu OR arkosch
at pobox.com). Ann Kosch
