** Hello all: I was wondering if anyone had any technical solutions/policies regarding users attaching, via MidTier, attachments into the ITSM/Remedy solution that may or may not have been scanned for viruses. Is there a solution for ensuring that any attachments that are put into the Remedy ARSystem database have been scanned appropriately ? Thanks. Re: Attachments and scanning for viruses
That would be a client function but some folks are external and internet facing so I see your point... Yet is still some back to a antivirus/malware based application. If inside you open the attachment and the anti viral software detects it, you delete attachment I suppose problem solved. Because it is just compressed into a clob/blob application is not affected.. Hi Frank, We are looking into testing a roll back to SP4 ourselves just as a test in our QA environment to see if the issue is with the Global fields or not. On another note, I am also hearing (haven't received the document yet) that there is a bug on IE10 that may be the cause of this error on the Mid Tier. But again, I haven't seen the doc on that so don't quote me on it. May have absolutely nothing to do with all this! Caught exception :Object doesn't support property or method 'getProxyGlobalFields
Shall I be honest? :) Fiddler logs are a complete waste of everyone's time. They tell you what was sent to/from the browser, but the issue is client side - it's the browser executing the Javascript code. Theoretically, one could use some home-brew tool to pump Fiddler logs to a browser and try to debug it, but that's going to be so painful (not least because you don't have the customer's browser) that the only way to actively tackle it is to use a Javascript debugger on the client site. Failing a webex: The ClientCore.js files shipped with BMC are compressed, which is basically an ineffective way to make them unreadable to the client - there are dozens of tools to format them neatly. I would expect someone to send you an uncompressed ClientCore.js file and ask for a screenshot of the error from the Error console in Firefox, which allows you to at least pinpoint the problem. Even better, IE's debugger used to have a break on exception and display the stack feature, but I've not used that in years. This information will provide clues. Fiddler logs are for solving client/server side issues, such as Why is my browser failing to authenticate single-sign on with this service?. Pascale: If SSL options are being suggested, I'm not sure anyone understands the problem... ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org Where the Answers Are, and have been for 20 years
Re: BMC Dev Studio - Windows 7
I wonder if we dove into the weeds a bit too quickly with our replies :) I agree with Charlie it doesn't sounds like a Dev Studio issue but something getting in the way of DS making a connection. Can you ping the server from the Win 7 machines? Does the AR Server register with portmapper? Do you need to specify a port in your Dev Studio connection settings? Have you double checked the server name in the Dev Studio connection settings? Are there any other AR servers you can try to connect to? It would rule out a Dev Studio issue if you can connect to another AR server. Have you looked for odd entries in the host file? Maybe there is a local alias pointing to the wrong IP address? Have you tried connecting to the AR server with the IP address of the server? This would rule out host file and DNS issues. Re: Relationship between ARServer/Mid Tier and Database
As others have mentioned, the AR System server is the only thing that interacts with the database. All other aspects of the system interact with the AR System server for data. The AR System server connects with the database using the DB native libraries that are linked into the AR System. So, if you are using Oracle, we link directly with a set of Oracle libraries to interact with the database. If using MS SQL Server, we link with a set of MS SQL Server libraries. We do not use the ODBC or JDBC connections at this time (although we are looking at whether using JDBC connections in the future have the necessary functionality and scalability) because we have found that going direct with native libraries gives us the most control and functionality and performance. Re: Cleaning up forms before migration
Assuming you're planning to delete ALL the data in each of these forms, I agree with Ken Fred: using TRUNCATE TABLE is the only way to go. If you only want to selectively delete data, well, that's going to be a lot more painful though you still may want to consider using SQL (DELETE FROM) for the operation and carefully construct the WHERE clauses for each of the relevant tables. Deleting 160 million entries through ARS will take forever and would be the least attractive option to me. Either way, absolutely coordinate this with your DBA's as this kind of operation, and the magnitude of the data, will certainly have impact on things like transaction logs. -charlie On Thu, Jan 9, 2014 at 1:02 PM, Grooms, Frederick W frederick.w.gro...@xo.com wrote: ** We do it with a truncate table SQL command (since we want to delete everything) Simply find your schema ID for the form in question and Truncate the T, H, and B tables for that ID Fred *From:* Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG] *On Behalf Of *Cecil, Ken *Sent:* Thursday, January 09, 2014 2:58 PM *To:* arslist@ARSLIST.ORG *Subject:* Cleaning up forms before migration ** We have some backend forms with large amounts of data that we don’t care about and would like to delete before doing a data migration. Schedule it to run either once, or on a periodic basis to continue to keep things trimmed down. For instance, a weekly escalation that deletes records that are more than xx days or weeks old. As mentioned, the where clause needs to be carefully constructed. - Original Message - From: Charlie Lotridge lotri...@mcs-sf.com To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Sent: Thursday, January 9, 2014 4:12:38 PM Subject: Re: Cleaning up forms before migration ** Assuming you're planning to delete ALL the data in each of these forms, I agree with Ken Fred: using TRUNCATE TABLE is the only way to go. -charlie On Thu, Jan 9, 2014 at 1:02 PM, Grooms, Frederick W frederick.w.gro...@xo.com wrote: ** We do it with a truncate table SQL command (since we want to delete everything) Simply find your schema ID for the form in question and Truncate the T, H, and B tables for that ID Fred From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG ] On Behalf Of Cecil, Ken Sent: Thursday, January 09, 2014 2:58 PM To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Subject: Cleaning up forms before migration ** We have some backend forms with large amounts of data that we don’t care about and would like to delete before doing a data migration. For example FB:History has over 160 million records. What is the best way to go about deleting data out of the forms that have gotten away from us. I know we should have set up escalations or archiving to prevent this. Obviously deleting them through search and delete is out of the question. If I set up an escalation to do it I think it would kill performance or take forever. How do you guys go about it. Risky SQL?
