I do not have the file on hand but you can google it and find what you are
looking for

above is an example of how to do a simple script, then just modify it to
what you want.

you can write a batch file to restart the services and then have say a
windows task scheduler run it if you are on windows server. I have done
that before.

Our goal is 1,000 votes. We are VERY SHORT of that number. Sadly this is
reflecting what was seen by Dan during the actual MVP voting this year.

If you want the ARSList MVP award to continue reply to the Bring back the
ARSList MVP for 2013 thread. You only need to hit reply, enter YES in the

obligated to confess that you didn't vote this year.

Re: ITSM 7.6.04 - removing a value

2012-01-04 Thread Kevin Begosh
This is what I did

I had a field called New Full Name and I populate the name, John Smith
from the field Old Field Name that had John G Smith.

(SUBSTRC($OldFullName$, 0, STRSTRC($OldFullName$, ) - 1) + ) +
RIGHTC($OldFullName$, STRSTRC($OldFullName$, ) + 1)

This gets the string from the first part up to the first space, so
first name then adds a space then gets the last night via right
command up to the other space.

On 1/4/12, Roger Justice rjust2...@aol.com wrote:

I need to get rid of the MI.

I was able to do it with one field on the form, but I had a FN and a LN

ARS Email Engine Issues

2011-10-24 Thread Kevin Begosh
List,
I just stood up a brand new version of ARS 7.6.04 with all the
applications. Everything has been so far so good. Today the email engine
started to for some reason, sending out a few hundred emails and then it
would stop. It will not process anymore until I restart the email engine
and then it sends out a couple hundred more but then stops again.

Has anyone seen this before?

not that I can tell. The records are sitting in the AR System Email Message

Once I bounce the email engine it goes through a couple of hundred of
records and then stops. I do not see any errors in the email engine log or

For outgoing, you need an active SMTP source of some type, and is allowable

Re: AIE Mapping Against Base Element

2011-06-08 Thread Kevin Begosh
Tommy,
Thanks for the reply. I am trying to update Base Element and that is the
reason for the email because I am not having any luck. What I have right
now is about 20k CI's among a number of classes, I think there is about 18
different classes I have pushed to total. I was just giving another
spreadsheet that had extra data about all those assets. The only thing that
this new spreadsheet has that will match the CI's currently in the system is
Asset ID. So in my primary Key I have it matching Asset ID to Asset ID.
Then in my data mappings I have three fields I am pushing over, these three
fields are all custom attributes I added to Base Element. In my Mapping
options I am only modifying records not creating and I have it restricted to
my dataset, and I am pushing to BMC_BaseElement

When I run this it looks via the logs that is cannot find the records I have
in the CMDB based on the Asset ID because it tries to create records every
time and the AR System form count is 0. I built the exact same mapping and
put it against the BMC_ComputerSystem class and it worked fine.

I know that I can do this via a staging form but I wanted to keep it all in
the mappings if possible. I have never mapped to Base Element before so I
did not know if there was some rule I am missing, like you can only create,
or you have to have another attribute mapped etc...

 **

 List,

Has anyone built a AIE mapping against BMC_BaseElement. I have a mapping
built against Computer System and I want to use it for a number of other
classes. Instead of building it a bunch of times I was thinking lean and
trying to create it once against base element.

I have a Primary Key of Lets say Asset ID and two data mapping fields and
that is it. I am not creating records only updating. When I look at the
logs it looks as if AIE cannot find the file and it tries to create it. The
ARSystem count is 0 when it should be 1. This same mapping runs against the
computer system class and works fine.

Any ideas, is there a step with Base Element I am missing. I have built
workflow against Base Element that modified and created records and had no
problems. I can also build a staging form that can handle this but I wanted
to have it handled in AIE mapping since I am only updated a field or two and
 that is it.

And it updated the computer system. It is like for some reason it cannot

That is what I was thinking as well. I actually did delete all my records

When I ran AIE agains BMC_BaseElement it tried to create the record and the

Session statistics: AR requests: 0, Vendor requests: 18

When I ran it against computer system it found the record

And it updated the computer system. It is like for some reason it cannot
find it in Base Element and I don't know why.

Try to use a smaller subset of data and then log the heck out of it. If you
only use two records for your import then the logs shouldn’t become so
unmanageable that you can’t parse through them. If you can AIE into one of
the joins then you should be able to hit the base.

When I run this it looks via the logs that is cannot find the records I
have in the CMDB based on the Asset ID because it tries to create records
every time and the AR System form count is 0. I built the exact same
mapping and put it against the BMC_ComputerSystem class and it worked fine.

I know that I can do this via a staging form but I wanted to keep it all in
the mappings if possible. I have never mapped

AIE Mapping Against Base Element

2011-06-07 Thread Kevin Begosh
List,
Has anyone built a AIE mapping against BMC_BaseElement.

I have built
workflow against Base Element that modified and created records and had no
problems. I can also build a staging form that can handle this but I wanted
to have it handled in AIE mapping since I am only updated a field or two and
that is it.

When you add an attribute to base element you don’t have to update any

For your question, all you need to do is add the index to the base element
class either using cmdbdriver or the class manager. You should be able to
see this on the BMC.CORE:BMC_BaseElement form when you’ve finished.

driver to update all other classes etc... and all works well. Now I want to
go back and create a index for that same attribute and I see that I can do
that in the class manager for Base Element but I was not sure if I had to do
anything else to update the other classes or Base Element for that matter.
 Has anyone ever done this?

AIE/CMDB Question

2011-04-13 Thread Kevin Begosh
I have used AIE to import some records into the form
BMC.CORE:BMC_COMPUTERSYSTEM and everything appeared to work okay. I
imported them into a test dataset that I created. They all have the right
ztmpkeyword, dataset id, and ztmpschemaPropername. For some reason though
when I do a search on AST:Computer System they are not showing up, I am an
admin on the system and I am doing a clear all before I search. Has anyone
seen this behavior before. I am doing some digging but thinking maybe I
missed a checkbox somewhere.

 Hi Kevin,

This may a little bit of an obvious question but confirm that when you want
to do your search, you begin from the Asset Management Console and have
selected your test dataset. The reason why I ask this is that the dataset
field gets default populated with the BMC.ASSET (production dataset)
 otherwise.

Re: ARS 7.5 Flashboard Issue

2011-03-09 Thread Kevin Begosh
The FB variables themselves have values hardcoded in the run if and then
when I open thr form that the FB's are on I also set default values. That
all works fine. Then you start seleting items from the drop down menus and
it changes (refreshes) the FB for 3 to 4 times and then just stops
refreshing them. I turned logging on and the workflow is firing properly,
the FB just are not refreshing. One more thing to mention, these FB's are
on a page holder and on the second tab. When I select the first tab and
then the second tab if does refresh it that way.

 Hey Kevin ...

We have a similar setup. I did notice that we had problems displaying

could make the problem go away by giving the flashboard default
parameters that load when the form the loads. That way a default
flashboard is seen when the form opens. I then allow the User to
make choices in fields that will change the nature of the flashboard.
This seems to work for me.

 Good Luck Bud.

 List,

 I am working with ARS/ITSM/SRM 7.6.03. I have created a number of SRD's
that create incidents. Everything works fine except for the following two
 things.

 1. Attachment adding to the Service Request does not come over to the
incident when created. There is a work info entry on the incident that
says, Attachment from Request Entry but no attachment.

 2. Update to the activity log on the service request does not update the
work info on the incident. It does however update the activity log when a
work info entry is created on the incident.

I did a little digging and I have talk to a couple of people on these and I
am hearing that both of these are not bugs, they are working on desgined. I
was not 100% sure if that was accurate so I was wondering if anyone has
worked on this issue and received any information on either of these?

 Hey Kevin,

We're only on SRM 2.2 but item one is the same for us. I did open a ticket
with BMC and they said it was by design in order to reduce duplication in
the database. Its a real PITA though and we've considered adding some
direct links. Having to go back and forth to locate attachments is a waste
 of time!

As for item 2, we get work log copies either direction. So either they
removed some functionality going to 7.6 or you do have a bug in the
 workflow.

 Cheers!

I have only looked into the first item, and you are correct that it is
described as being by design. However, there was a way to fix it in SRM
2.2. Unfortunately, I haven’t found the fix yet in the latest version.

Re: Dynamic Condition in Flashboards

2011-01-26 Thread Kevin Begosh
Shiva,
You can pass variables to the flashboard to change what the query is for the
flashboard, I am assuming thats what you are talking about. I actually have
a flashboard console now that has drop downs for company and assigned groups
to change the query of the flashboard, we are multi tentant. If you look up
the administering flashboards guide there is documentation on how to do
that. SLM verson 7.1 documentation has it on page 80,

customqual=’FieldName’= ++ $Field$+

So via workflow you just set the dashboard to that string above. That is an
example so put in your values after customqual.

I cannot access the system from where I am but if you need more help let me
know offline and I can send you the set fields that I have.

displayed. I am looking for a way in which I can dynamically pass the
primary name (that I select) to the flashboard variable qualification so
that it displays the appropriate graph. I looked around and found out that I
cannot use the EXTENAL() keyword for flashboards or escalations. Is there
any other way I can achieve this. Because else I would need to build a bunch
of flashboards with the Primary names hardcoded into the qualiication to
display the appropriate graph. Its going to be a maintenance nightmare in
case the names change. Please let me know in case you guys have any
 suggestions.

Report Option From Table Field Opening Different Form.

2011-01-24 Thread Kevin Begosh
List,
Does anyone know how the AR System knows which form to display up when you
put a report option for a table field. This is not a regular button and
automatically brings up a form without having to add workflow. In most
cases this brings up the ReportSelection form. For some reason, for some
users it has started to bring up another form. Is there some sort of user
preferences or server setting that sets which form to load for these lable
buttons.

Re: Wierd Workflow Issue

2011-01-06 Thread Kevin Begosh
Doug,
thanks for taking the time to answer my question/issue. We are in fact
using SQL 2005 here. I am going to try the trim to see if that works. This
is all good and very useful information.

On Thu, Jan 6, 2011 at 1:59 AM, Mueller, Doug doug_muel...@bmc.com wrote:

 **
 Kevin,

This issue pops up about once a year. It is an artifact of a workaround to
 a challenge with a database.

You did not indicate what database you are using... but I can tell you that
it is either SQL Server or Sybase
(and since you did indicate you are running on Windows and we do not
support Sybase there I can say that
it is SQL Server in your case)

The issue is that SQL Server and Sybase has an odd behavior. If you have a
 character string that happens to
have a backslash in it that it followed by a carriage return character, the
 database will remove the two
characters from the character field. We have no clue why it does it, we
 just know that it does.

Since we encode the definitions of qualificaitons and assignments and since
 we use backslashes as
separator characters in that encoding and since your definition has a
character string that is a return.

What we did (way back in 1991 by the way) was to protect this scenario by
 inserting a space before the
return. Good/bad/indifferent, it is the way we solved the problem. This
is 99% innocuous and causes no
issue -- but in situations like the scenario you have here, it introduces
an extra character and can cause
 issues.

The strategy that Fred described that includes trims resolves the problem
as the logic trims off the extra
space that is inserted for those databases (and has no issues if it is
Oracle or DB2 as the database).

Recently, logic has been introduced in the system to try and mask the issue
 by BMC reversing the extra
space for those databases when we recognize the pattern. This is where
people with the latest version are
not seeing the results of the issue. Has it been resolved everywhere -- we
think so. But if there is a
miss, the trim strategy can be used as a workaround.

I hope that helps at least explain what is occurring.

Now, if we could go back 20 years and use a different workaround, would
we? Probably. But, it is what we
chose at the time to protect the definition from corruption.

Resetting SLA Target and Milestone

List,
I have a custom application that I integration with SLM. Created the Data

fine. I am in the process now of trying to change or start the SLA target
and milestone data over. I went and filled out the reset Goal for same
request when on the target data source and I also selected Yes on the
actualy SLA target for allowing to reset the SLA goal.

However when I run the instance where it would reset it nothing happens.
Iooked under the covers a little bit and saw there is a Restart Now value
that was being set on SLM:Measurement so I tried that, and that did not work
either.

I was wondering if anyone either custome or OOB has had to reset a goal and
how they did it. I did not want to change the dates and time through my own
workflow but I will if I have to.

I was hoping there was some OOB process or keyword that I might be missing.

Any help is appreciated.

When I add it to the middle of that section say under product catalog info

2. When I log into the RKM web console I do not see an author tab, and I do
not see a settings tab to run like the indexes etc...

I have created a user with KMS Sys-admin and I am able to log in. Has any

Thats what I kind of thought but I figure I would post and see if it was

of. I am the only one doing development right now and I have not added

Oh well.

Resolved: AR Email Issue 7.5 Patch 4

2010-07-20 Thread Kevin Begosh
Update:
After some painstaking review of logs with nothing in them, we narrowed this
issue down to incoming email only. We also saw a symptom of the email
service that kept crashing.

It turns out that there was a email about 20mb in the inbox that I guess was
hosing up the email service. I deleted that one email and everything seems
to be working fine now.

We are using MAPI by the way.

So if anyone gets those symptoms check for a big email :)

 others).

What you need to do in the API program you are using is the same as the
user tool does. Turn on logging in the user tool and do the assignment
change. Then you will see the hidden fields that are being set by the
workflow. Set those fields and your problem will go away.

 Cheers

You are missing some ID fields like Assigned Group ID and depending on
what you are really doing, a bunch more.

You could also trace the set of filters to determine when the error is
 thrown.

Re: Web Services with ITSM

2010-07-15 Thread Kevin Begosh
I agree if you are going to use WS I would use some kind enterprise bus. I
had a custom app that used See Beyond I think it was called and it worked
wonders. You can send the info to the Enterprise Bus in real time and then
the Enterprise Bus can sent it whenever, queue it up for nightly push, real
time etc. Also what we did with the See Beyond was added workflow that
would push back a success when modified so you would know it went through
and if it did not the Enterprise Bus could keep trying to send it till it
got a success.

between the Remedy ITSM services) to handle error and retries

 Hello Listers,

if you have a classical 3 tier environment, where to install BMC RKM, on
the MidTier Server or on the Server where AR Server is installed?

 Thanks in advance.

Re: Operational vs Product Categorization

2010-07-13 Thread Kevin Begosh
I am going to throw my two cents in because this is probably the hardest
part of implementing ITSM. make sure when you are defining these that you
get input/buyoff from helpdesk managers, field tech managers etc I have
seen companies in the past where these values where agreed upon but no one
though of consulting with the people who actually use the application. You
can come up with the best Foundational data to you, or to mangement but when
it comes time to use it, if it does not make sense to them it is going to be
a hard roll out, not to mention inaccurate reporting from people using the
wrong cats etc

This might go without saying, but just thought I would throw this out there.

Product Catalog (example from one of the Topology Discovery defaults):

- Tier 1 - Hardware
- Tier 2 - Processing Unit
- Tier 3 - Server
- Product Name - ProLiant DL380 G4
- Manufacturer - HP

Server abc.company.com would be categorized as a Proliant DL380. By using
the product categorization on your Incidents, you can discern how often the
Proliant DL380s are causing issues. Or how many times the Proliant's are
 being changed (via Change Requests).

 Operational Catalog

- Tier 1 - Change (or Add or Remove, etc...)
- Tier 2 - Server
- Tier 3 - Microsoft

Operationally, you can track what is happening to all the Microsoft
servers. Combine this with the product categorization, and you can see how
many issues you've had with your Microsoft Proliant DL380s.

As has been mentioned, how each company wants to track things varies and
 can get philosophical.

ARERR 92 Server Timeout During Database Update

2010-07-12 Thread Kevin Begosh
okay so I remember seeing this before but I cannot remember what I did to
solve the issue. I am am trying to change workflow objects, forms, filters
etc... via the admin tool and I keep getting the ARERR 92 timeout during
database update ...

The environment I am in is a Server group configuration with 3 AR Servers
sharing the same DB.

Has anyone else out there had this issue?

Windows 2003 server, SQL 2005 DB.

Do you have to take them out of server groups and then make the changes and
then put them back, something like that?

If you close your workflow and re-open it after this error, you should

Re: Pushing Multiple Records with Escalation

2010-07-08 Thread Kevin Begosh
well if you are doing it with an escalation you do not need a radio button,
just have an escalation that fires off at a certain time and modifies a
field on your form, like a display form such as Z1DAction. Pass a value
like Start Record Creation, then have filter guides that will go through and
create multiple records. They way I have always done that is with a integer
field and increment it down in the filter guide each time you create the new
record. Just make sure you loop through that filter guide.

Re: Pushing Multiple Records with Escalation

2010-07-08 Thread Kevin Begosh
basically you need a escalation that starts the process, a filter that sets
a integer field on how many records you want to create, a filter that calls
the filter guide ( could be the same filter that sets the integer field),
and then a couple of filters, one that checks the interger to make sure it
is more than 0, one that creates the record, and then one that subtracts the
integer. You must also loop through the filter guide to keep on creating
the record.

through and create multiple records. They way I have always done that is
with a integer field and increment it down in the filter guide each time you
create the new record. Just make sure you loop through that filter guide.

  Hi Ar Listers,

I am looking to add multiple records/entries from
one form to another using a radio button option, So whenever i click radion
button, it should add all teh new entries (more than 20) to the other form.

 1) How would i do with an escalation for some specific time .
 2) How can i use filters and filter guides for the same action.

 Please consider my query.

 Help will be appreciated.

 Thanks

Re: Table Auto Refresh through the AR User Preference Form

2010-07-07 Thread Kevin Begosh
Thanks Doug. The information helps. I am not going through with this I
just wanted to be able to explain this to them. They are fine with the
option just being on the mid tier out of the box and not having anything on
the user tool.

 Kevin,

If you wanted this to happen:

 1) Create an active link that fires on interval and set the interval to 60
seconds and attach it to the form that
contains the table you want to refresh. Define no Run If condition and
define a single action which is a
Change Field action to perform a table refresh.

 There is no step 2.

This will refresh the table once a minute.

NOTE: This is not a recommended practice in general as you really need to
mean it if you do this. And, you
really need to make sure the query is efficient. And, you need to think of
whether there is any impact on the
user for doing this -- for example, do other fields refresh as the table
 refreshes?

So, something that is easy to do, but is it a good thing to do is another
 question.

 I hope this is useful,

 Doug Mueller

okay so I am reading through the BMC Remedy Action Request System 7.5.00
Configuration Guide and I get to page 90 which talks about Table Field
Refresh Interval - The interval at which tables automatically refreshes. On
the table in the guide there is not a + next to the User tool or the Mid
Tier, so does that mean you cannot use this at all?

Does anyone know if this is valid or has anyone used it. I tried it out
 and it did not work.

Re: ITSM Upgrade Issues

2010-07-06 Thread Kevin Begosh
I actually have another 7.0 system which is an virtual image that was a
blank install and that field ID is the same as mine here as well. This is
just bascially an instance of one field that is not importing right. There
are many others like this. Another example is on the HPD:HelpDesk form, the
customers incidents table. All of the fields on that table in all of my
systems start with 301 but the install is trying to import them as 303.

Could someone have run change-id on the field for some reason?

Is this the only field or are there more?

okay so I have been having ITSM upgrade issues and I have finally
narrowed it down. Basically what is happening is I am running the ITSM
install and it is trying to import .def .arx files etc and it is failing
some definition files because it is trying to import a form with a field
that already exists and failing saying that it already exists but the DB
 ID's are different.

 Example:

One of the installs is importing the form FIN:LoadCosts and is failing
because in the current system the field Related Cost is there, which it
should be but it is Field ID 270002018. The field ID trying to be imported
 is 303778300.

I have looked at other system the same version as mine and the current
field ID is the same as mine 270002018. So why is this form failing to
import, shouldn't it be over writing that field?

Has anyone else seen this or run into this issue?

 Current system:
 ARS 7.5 Patch 4
 CMDB 7.6 Patch 1
ITSM 7.03 Patch 9, plus the compatibility Patch
 Windows 2003 Server
 SQL 2005 DB
 VMWare Virtual Server

I am trying to upgrade to ITSM 7.6 Patch 1

I have tried ITSM 7.6 Patch 1, ITSM 7.6, and now I am trying ITSM 7.5 and
the same issue is happening on all three upgrades.

Re: ITSM Upgrade Issues

2010-07-06 Thread Kevin Begosh
yeah, I guess the question or problem I have that I am waiting support to
come back with is if you are able to upgrade from 7.03 Patch 9 to 7.5 or 7.6
then how is the new field ID's suppose to change. It is trying to add Field
ID 303. with the same name as one that exists and it's failing because
you cannot have the two fields with the same DB name. So I am consufsed to
what should happen with the install and/or why so many other people are not
having issues. The only thing I can think of is that it is suppose to
replace that field and if it's not doing it then why not?

On my 7.0.2 system on FIN:Costs the Related Costs field is 270002018 as you
have mentioned - however there is not a FIN:LoadCosts (probably a difference
 between ITSM 7.0.2 and 7.0.3 which I never built/saved...)

Interesting that in the installation guide for 7.5 the specific versions
for Asset / Change were mentioned to be able to be upgraded from 7.0.3 but
 not for Incident and Problem...

Might be interesting to check the field id on a 7.1 system...
