Re: Migrating to NZ

Well new zealand is a nice quiet country.I wouldn't try to come here right now, you need to pay 5000 dollars for quarenteen for starters. There is a blind educational union which is good. But if you want a job, may as well jump in a lake.I mean there are jobs but you need to be in the right place at the right time. The country is a nice place to live with accessibility and at least 2 organisations I know of but its all service based. The disability system is generally good apart from the few people wanting you to be healed sounding like they are stoned that can happen from time to time but well its ok.If its work you want unless you want to work in a disabled centre or something weird I wouldn't bother. You wouldn't be able to afford coming here even if the borders were open which they arn't so you can't.

Re: Looking for a printer. Any suggestions?

Most printers should work. The easiest to setup maybe the hp envy series.Hp envy 4520 is what I use its probably quite old now and the latest was the 6000 series according to my local computer store pb electronics.Software wize its easy to install, and such and will run eprint. If you want cheaper the next in line seems to be the hp deskjet 2000 followed by 3000 series and those should work.Of interesting note, the cannon pixma mg 2400 will work via usb. This was a printer I used with my grandpa and well it just worked. As for your printer not connecting to wifi, if and when you can get back to her place, you may find the previder updated her network and reset all the information so the printer can no longer connect. In the first instance I'd restart her modem and fibre box by turning them off at the wall and waiting for 20 seconds. Now I can't tell you the spaciffics of the next steps but since a lot of router configurations are universal, the next links in sequence are from the home dashboard, settings or tools, advanced setup or advanced, wireless configuration basicmake sure the username or ssid is set correctly. On security, make sure your wireless is set at wpa level2 psk and make sure the key you put in is correct, should be a show password button to check it.On advanced, make sure autosteering is off, could be in basic though, and make sure the networks all match for their 2 and 5g respectively.Hit apply, then turn off the printer by unplugging it then turn it on.You may need sighted access to configure it again for its network.Your wireless printer should have direct usb connection. If you can't be fucked or for whatever reason the wireless signal is no good, short of pissing about with channels, you should get a computer that directly connects to lan and then it will just work.Of course if your great grandma doesn't use a laptop and for a person like this she probably uses a desktop, a usb port and usb connection should work just fine.

Hi.Well, I couldn't tell.I have perfect pitch as well. Both sounded almost exactly the same, file1 had more base, and there was possibly a slight harmonic on the timpany, file 2 didn't but I don't do drums as such.It sounded like both used the same synth though at least I am sure of.The second tympany sounded slightly muffled and obviously higher but you need to listen really hard.On my good pair of senheisers, well yeah thats interesting.I will forward your topic to a guy I know.

Well I have an hp workstation, not the latest ryzen gen now but it has duel drives. The sound is good without enhancements on but its a bit of a bother turning them off.At any point I have spent on but not fiddled with the dolby access just because I was bored out of my tree, its a bit fiddly but you can set profiles for effects for various things, so you could enhance your game, your sapi for a book, different environments and leave the main system alone just like sightlings do with their joystick controlers so I like that but as I said havn't used it to much.Hp make good stuff though I haven't honestly looked at laptops like this for ages because no one uses duel drive, 256-512gb and some have more but if you want duel you are better with an older generation of system now, or something which is why I may eventually go desktop.Plus, I have an old junkbox due to be thrown away and its got a perfectly new power supply in it so I plan to get a case, a bord cpu kit, and a storage and ram kit and maybe an extra stick of ram on top of that and maybe depending on how I feel extra sound and wireless card and maybe graphics and try to build my own box since I have at least 130-200 bucks worth of good components.

Re: Persistent Conexant Audio Pop-up: I Need Help

Well, generally if a device wants or needs whatever it is, there is usually a prevision for it.Windows doesn't like if something is not in the right place.Thats good for security, etc but if you are doing task x, you could simply supress notifications from the app in question. Its why I havn't disabled windows defender notifications but I have done that for a few apps which pump out their notifications for various things I do when I do them. They are telling me I have done that thing but since I do it regularly I allready know I am doing those things so its ok.At the same time I wouldn't disable things stupidly because you may need them later.Notifications are there so you don't lose track, but if you plug and unplug all the time you will get sick of them.I have thought about autoplay but to be honest that is the only way to know if the device is ready to role or not so I don't.

Re: problem with my new computer

Well, yeah windows update.I always get the normal ones but after doing updates, well it shouldn't sit there.Windows update did have bios updates from hp but no idea on age.I did do this between updates on my hp, but you can probably hide those with the show hide windows updates troubleshooter and yeah bitlocker and windows bios updates just doesn't actually work. Now, I agree with the poster.Actually unless its really old, windows update shouldn't update thirdparty drivers or software unless its microsoft.Simply put some of those are old or simply just don't work.Chance is the update never even started in your windows system.I'd in that situation turn it off, pull the cell and do a firmware reset with holding power for like 20 sec then start it again.I have no idea why even after official updates microsoft deems it necessary to install its own bios update.I mean I do do that between real updates especially if hp hasn't released their bios but really I have no idea what all that is about.I have downgraded drivers on some older systems to the generic crappy microsoft ones where appropriate.I have a couple systems I have been using modified hacked drivers on for various things. However said things are no longer needed and the user of the system has got many bsod events so I just had windows update loads its generic drivers on which are old as all hell but the system is as old as all hell so its ok in that case.Actually windows is semi good at installing drivers for stuff which are semi ok after the fact. For example, if you install com0com on the system, microsoft / windows update will actually update its third party driver with one from windows update itself when you do install that. Also its optional to install drivers now and while I do do it you don't need to actually do that. Now if they would add something like hide updates and a function to export the list of hidden things and their reason to your ms account and to a feed back request that would be good.I don't think windows update should handle bios, and drivers associated with a system, unless the system is more than 5 years old and most likely outside its support period, or its a critical one which the manufacturers just refuse to address, or a windows update will fuck up and stop if version x is not loaded.Windows update seems to update whenever it exists.Worse still there are no indications on what things do and what they are supposed to be for.For example, intel system update, or hp system update as generic descriptions.Of course you install them, you figure out that things just work.On the other side, hp is and has been late with updating various things and backdating them.So I got a bios update which said updated support for windows 10 version x.I had had windows 10 version x for the last 4 months. It did work but that was beyond the point, you'd think they would release before things needed updating.Saying that at least hp still support some 6th and higher generation systems.Even the old 7th generation has minimal support but since the intel dch system updates you can at least use latest drivers for your display and universal systems.Amd has its own and I don't use the oem updates from hp.Obviously there is some risks because amd runs all its public betas for free to but if you are not critical well its ok.With all the  bug reports things are fixed faster. Then again some older stuff is never updated.

2021-02-22 Thread AudioGames . net ForumOff-topic room : crashmaster via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Looking for a good desktop computer. Any suggestions?

Well, any store branded thing is probably your best bet.A store built system is fine.If you can't afford all that, buy a case, supply and upgrade kit.No kits I have seen have a case and supply but get a good case, a 550 watt supply or 600 which is all you really need in most situation, 450 units are fine but are only for stock stuff. It depends on your budget.Intel 9th 10th or 11th generation are the top intels but as I said depends what you can afford.7th and 8th are ok and 6th can still be good.A processer upgrade kit will have a board, cpu and some ram.A storage upgrade kit will have a couple drives. If you don't want to fart with that, I'd get an upgrade box, thats a basic box with no os.Those usually come with a 1-2tb hard drive a board and processer and 8gb ram and thats it.You could get extras like an os or a ssd.redmondpie.com have offers for cheap windows and office and while I have only ever used their office offers they have worked. Then again, if you are custom building your box, you get oem and builder rates and some stores do promotions and gift boxes.Mostly these contain games and a load of other things we can't use but they can contain hardware and random stuff. At any rate if you get something you can't use, you can sell it back on ebay and get some cash back from your purchice which means more stuff.16gb ram to 32gb if you can afford more than 16 will help and anything over that is what ever you want.I have seen a lot of units able to take 64gb, that being 2 32 gb ram sticks. Some can take 128gb ram or higher but after 16 32gb all at once can cost a little bit and after that it gets silly. Then, graphics. If you are never going to play anything with sightlings or don't have cash to spare I wouldn't graphics cards over 1gb cost a load.Of course if you have 3-400 bucks you can get one.Amd is good and nvidia aparently has jaws issues. You probably don't need any more than 4gb graphics unless you really plan for the biig leegs.Drive storage, well a 128gb ssd and 1tb or 2tb or higher hdd will handle for most users. However you can always get more, 256gb or 512 maximum for the system. If you think you can get another 1-2 tb for things and maybe another extra drive go ahead but at least here in new zealand 1-2tb ssd costs as much as 4tb of hdd storage so it may be worth looking at your options. An internal or external usb 3.1 sd reader could be a good extra, and a disk drive, dvd writer or at least dvd reader and cd writer or just reader or reasonable speed. Its your choice to include usb c support but it depends on devices you have.Over that if you are away from the wires then wireless would be good something with at least ac 1200 or 1.2gbps will probably do but whatever you can afford.Over that if you still have cash, then a good soundcard, the shops have a few but if you are into music, dancingdots.com has a load of specialty cards if you are interested. Most are usb but creative still has the audygy fx and that may work.Cpu wize, amd ryzen 5 or 7 are the gold standards of gaming there even is a 9 now.If you don't have that sort of cash, I'd go for a standard top range epending on price i5, r5 or i7 and or r7 respectively. The amd systems have drives twice a month, and release all their betas for free publically.Intel update 2-3 times a year so whatever floats your boat.I am not sure about normal stuff but hp systems do have virtual machine capability and the prodesk I was installing for a client, had a door with a cardoor like handle on it for easy modding of the system. So if you are not sure what you want, get an hp pro desk, then get bits, pull off the side and go to town. The only issue is you will need sighted help to set the complex bios interface manager system. You do not want it to come on or shut down at a certain time which I had to do because it was configured to do that when I had the system first.Depending on space you may want a miniture desktop which is all nice and small and has everything to.The advantage with a pro desk is its like a laptop in a desktop shell.

Re: problem with my new computer

Ok so for information, this will be how the hp bios update works. You probably turned it off during the update fucking up the bios. You probably don't know or are not used to the phases of the update.1.  you update and are told to wait.Your speech will stutter and go bad and your fan will race like crazy, wait till that stops, then hit update when asked though you probably did that allready twice.Wait till the system auto shuts down because it will say so.The system will restart. Now here is the tricky part. Not sure about the screen but the fans will race and the system will not respond. Its ok, just wait 15 minutes or so.During this time the system will run, with a racing fan, shut off, run with a racing fan, shut off, run off quickly twice, run with the fan racing for a short time, shut off quickly then run then stay running. After this is done, depending on the system assuming laptop.Turn it off, take out battery if it has one and remove all devices. If its got an internal obviously don't do that, hold the power button for 20 seconds to flush the firmware chips and ram then turn on.If nothing happens after a second you are probably in an os menu so press enter then the system will be fine.On a desktop at least when I updated a prodesk.Run the update, it will transfer and then it will shut down. The system will reboot and its done.If you havn't updated before then yeah thats a problem.Ages ago I had a friend have a drive issue, and corrupt his system.I got him to run the steps he had to generate the noise he heard that had him needing to turn off the drive screwing up the os.It was scanning and reinstalling dos fixed it.Unlike windows, I didn't need to reformat to reinstall windows and didn't lose anything much bar the dos configurations.I did have thanks to a computer geek that got things for business an updated dos version so he got an upgrade. So let it run it will run itself.

Hi.Wow, I didn't know people traveled during these covid times. In new zealand no one does outside our borders.Right now we have a little set back because we have 3 more cases prompting everyone to be super carefull. As long as the state of being carefull drops back to the state where we can't go outside the country and thats it, I am planning a over road trip round my country in march.Over that though, if you have an account on the airline websites you travel with at least for my local one air nz, you can set a disability, food choices etc in your profile. The pages are accessible and I was surprised how crazy easy you could set your options. In 1994 or there abouts I took a trip to australia for a music camp, may have been earlier as 1992.Back then I was helped through the airport by staff, read all the documentation, etc.One thing, if you are asked for food, good luck eating it.I have no idea how one eats small food trays or with small food trays as most of it went down my front. If you can I'd go for something which isn't something you need to get out of a dish, something you can hold like a sandwich or a role or something. When with my family I have my mum helping me eat my food, the plates some of this stuff is in is really small. If you really want to do this, don't get noodles because you will most certainly have trouble eating them and avoid chicken.I'd also avoid anything sloppy if at all possible. In these unstable world ending apocoliptic times I only wish you luck on your trip and that you don't catch the bug thats so hard to avoid catching either in isolation or on the way.Even if we were allowed, a month each side in isolation pluss more extras per different area depending where you go and suddenly unless you plan to stick around for 3-6 months minimum you really don't want to go anywhere.

Hi, first, arcadia, post 8, If you want to contribute to the cast with audio especially if stuff works and descriptions thats fine.To everyone else, if you can't including well everyone posted so far and in the future, if you can, audio would be the best so you have a voice. But if you can't speak english or you can't speak for whatever reason, just send a text file in an email, and I'll use balabolka to convert the thing to mp3 and read it out via scansoft nuance vocaliser or one core.So far, if you can tell what country you are from, I can read out us, uk, australian, canadian and I think indian english and I think one core has irish to.So if you tell me where you come from with your audio or text or whatever then finek, if you just want to run out in text thats fine.Obviously if you have working devices audio would be the best or if you still can't speak, text and just the audio of you using the devices and I'll just knock them together. It would be nice to have these things working, but if push comes to shove I  have access to the phonetones sync folder which has dumps of the music and sound for each of these. In addition, somewhere I have the series 60 symbian midi sound font to load into coolsoft so its not like I don't have choices. My target for the cast, is probably somewhere between june/ july anyway.Mainly because I am in the process of getting bits of my house gutted and bits reconstructed, this is almost done my side. After that I need to get ready for the road trips I have on, so in about 7 or so weeks of trips or so around the country.Anyway, After all that and all extra updates and other stuff, I'll need to find a blank spot which I will find and put em together, so just drop them to me when you are ready, you have heaps of time. While I will be away from the 18th to 24th of this month, I will be able to answer questions before them, and from the 25th till 4th of march. After that I will have my system with me but questions may not be all the time as I will be traveling about and probably only pulling out the laptop when I am in a place for a long while like 2 or 3 days.Anyway, no pressure needed, this thing is going to have a long move time.At any rate at some point either the virus will lock us down again, or I will find some blank space. This has been the main reason I have put all offline external contracts off.Anyway just keep posting and joining in the descussion. If you  are unsure listen to the cast to see what I'm about.

Re: transitioning from android to iPhone. Does it worth it?

John, I would strongly recommend that while its easy enough to transfer over that you make sure you back your contacts up as you have always done in google contacts. If you ever want to go back, well in short, I'd continue backing up data for whats app and the like to google and as much as you think you can continue to do.The reason, transfering back from iphone to android is a big fucking shitty bastard from deep hell.My dad, who has been an iphone user for a number of years did a transfer to samsung getting the s10e a couple years back.Contacts went over well enough as did emails, after all these were doublebacked up to google and icloud let it go.Messages were another issue, if a contact was on imessage, then it needed to be deleted and recreated. Some transfered contacts didn't transfer propperly and needed to be deleted and recreated.A lot of important data was lost because simply you just couldn't transfer it.Books for apple for example couldn't be transfered but music and some videos could because android reads those apple files.I was also able to convert the music in apple format and then delete the apple files from the device via itunes. But even with several malware ridden programs on the computer we couldn't transfer everything even though we have a friend that is an experienced hacker. In my view I'd stay with android, however if you are going ios, be aware that the next phone you may get will have to be an iphone because thats the only way to get your data transfered over safely. From a symbian user, its android all the way, and even if I then go iphone I will make sure that at least my contacts I create are then recreated on google so at least if I switch back I won't have a problem.

Well the biggest issue you may have is the monitering software.I have an eaten one and yeah its a problem, I forget its port but its also got a webserver access once the software is started and running. You will be able to toggle settings and check status, etc. With the software I use I use ocr nvda and narator to access a few things, it can be done but its a task to do and installing it requires sight.Connecting it though is easy enough, plug the power to the power, and the usb to usb and the data cable to the box.Batteries I am unsure of, I know my dad replaces batteries but well thats just that.A serge protector may be better unless you have a lot of brownouts. It may be better to keep backups as well just in case.I have a couple, one handles my dad's workstation and the other handles the network routers etc. However I have a laptop workstation so I don't use one.I do have a large serge box which handles all my stuff though so if it does flux I should be ok.In addition I have a newer switchboard with all the extra protection curcuits and am going through a full re wallpapering of the house, as this continues I am gradually upgrading all my power switches and other equipment to modern standards.Out of 4 bedrooms my one is in the process of updating but the big room with the routers and workstations in it is allready on the new circuits..

Re: Amazing website to earn a little cash: killi.io

Well, back in the day there was a site called epipo that was supposed to do this. But like other mining scams this is just one such thing.Back in the day, before 2000, I subscribed to a newsletter off of mp3.com, asking to listen to things, click on links, and have a few popups floating around. It resulted in me having to enter my address and stuff into a form for a cd of music.I did and got a weird cd of weird music that didn't sound like music. But this was before 2000, before spam became evil.I subscribed to joke lists, used to run all sorts of files and attachments, audios, flash videos, zips with executables, joke files, joke viruses, it was a laugh.Even those .bat.exe ones another laugh. But after the first ransomware attack in 2007 I unsubscribed from all those, killed all the joke files and got serious. It was fun, but jokes well you can't trust them. The only non scam joke site is rjl software which is still a laugh.I haven't been on their site for fuck ages so I have no idea exactly if they exist or not.At any rate, since any joke is a vector for attack, I don't want to risk it.There are to many breaches and hacks.I just wish I got recordings from the time you could run a file and it did what it said it would do.Ie, pretend to reformat your computer, crash windows and when you restarted, say buy my cd.But I never recorded those events at the time because I didn't have the ability at the time but wish I did. Those events will never be repeated. Its a pitty there aren't rewards systems where you build up points and each is a dollar till you can afford actual things.Microsoft software, games, devices, accesseries, etc.But I am not sure if I would bother trying to use those

Re: Building a desktop PC

Well, power wize, a 500 watt or 600 should be fine for most things.Anything over 600 will start to cost you a bogload. But your 450kw supply just won't cut it.In my workstations I have fans and even my friend who has a grunty beast of a server runs fans. Its only noisy when at full power. The component manufacturers you have seem rock solid. However, as a starter, I wouldn't go for a buy the indevidual things and slap them in.Even with the right static protection even if you can see to wire, it may be better to get a few different things.1.  buy a case.2.  buy a storage kit, a memmory kit, and a board and power kit.Storage kits usually contain an ssd and hdd or twin ssds or something.Power and mainboard kits contain ram, boards, and such. This will pritty much make things work for you and you know they will work.If you really don't want to do that, the next thing is an upgrade box.Think of this as a template with basic components in.You can update a storage drive, the power supply, extra video cards, etc.But its basically there and you shouldn't need to do much. Finally there is a shop assembled system. This is not a branded system but a shop assembled system, pbtech my store I use have systems they put together themselves, you can buy and assemble bits or buy the full kit and have it all handled.Next depending on your budget you can buy a customised system you custom build yourself online. If you are going to fit your own components though, I'd get a mutherboard kit, this will have a board, some ram and it may even have an entry leverl power supply. You can buy entry level through to gaming grade kits. These will have board, cpu and memmory with them. You need a power supply, and then a storage kit. After that extras, video cards, soundcards, wireless cards, usb c card if you want, etc.Buying from a supplier especially if you are building you can probably get deals and promos. If you really want to do this yourself, I'd probably get a board that can support both intel and amd cpus.Get the maximum fans you can and see.Video cards which are more then 1 or 2gb will cost a bundle.Nvidia stuff has issues and while amd stuff does work, and the drivers are good, there are some software issues with some thhings, intel can be a bit more expensive and there are multiple software packages to install and that can or can not be a problem. However intel has their drivers updated every 1 to 2 months and amd updates every month with beta and normal drivers.Virtualisation, hmmm it depends. If you are unsure, I'd go for something like an hp pro desk, then chop and change or at least a case with a panel you can just lift off similarly to when you open a car and then you can mod all you want.

Re: A topic to talk about recent findings of retro stuff

Well on the subject of jailbreaking apple discourages it, but its no secret that they watch what the hackers are doing jailbreaking things.Anything they see which they think looks good enough has a chance to be included in the next update so I guess in a round about way you are helping development, except apple is closed source so they can't admit that but still.I agree about tanks. My old toshiba 1850t is an utter tank mostly. The wireless switches and volume knobs when I asked toshiba why these were removed was told that those components with frequent use got clogged or broke in some instances and were deemed weak points which does actually make sence.Yeah the soni I have an sx35 with buttons and switches but that was updated to something else.I have 3 soni units, the sx, a ux60 which was interesting with its buttons, and a px330 which is interesting in itself. My new olympus lsp4 while I need to learn some of the control has a game pad style d pad as its main control menu navigation thingy which I do like though. So gamecontrolers do make it into other devices I guess. But yeah, I have 2 units 3 if you count my really broken toshiba tecra a9.The fan on that one is busted and the hinge is screwed due to frequent use.I always had it way back.On the subject of toshibas, yeah they still make them here. However most are 13 inch and while there are a few 14s the 15 inch stuff are collecters items.I have a 3200m which is a joke but I wander what would happen if I pulled out the dvd drive and hard drive, and replaced both with ssd and hdd combo or ssd ssd respectively if I'd get a bit more life out of it.The product serial is on the back as well as the windows key, so technically I should get a free upgrade to 10 pro should I need it.On the other hand, linux could be the way.On the other hand, I like the accessible control panel for hardware and part of me is wandering why I don't load windows 7 32 bit or old xp and just use it as a games and muck about system as it is.Then again, I just don't do that sort of thing anymore. What I do wish I had was a system from 1998 or there abouts where they still used real speakers, real soundcards and real graphics in normal systems or back to a system made in 1995 when we still had native fm midi ability.Granted, I will never give up coolsoft or my 4gb collection pluss of retro and modern soundbanks but even so.

Well while this is not for me right now its good to know it exists.Kinda reminds me about linux, and when I went to university.Back then I needed an external dectalk synth to get to doing speech. It worked for a while then started to fail, so every day I would start the computer, take the synth and bash it against a table till it turned on.Did that for 6 months or so.After I got home one day I turned it on, and nothing, and bashing it against a table for 10 minutes didn't make it go either.I had barely finnished university when grml appeared on the scene.I'd have managed a load better with linux, and ubuntu mate I think.

Re: A topic to talk about recent findings of retro stuff

Well I have been working for someone on an old toshiba sat l850  the 3200m class 3rd gen cpu with amd hd7800 and getting it working properly.I pulled out my now ancient c850 sat pro of the same vintage without the amd card.It still works.Unsure what I will do with it.There is fuck all wrong with it and its basically a collectors item now since toshiba only produce a couple 14 but mostly 13 inch ultrabooks.I could load windows 10 on it but having used win10 on a 3200m dule its a bit of a joke.A 3700qm with ssd and hdd combo is almost as fast if not faster than my amd ryzen 2nd gen or the prodesk 6th gen I worked on a little while back though. However if you need to work on a 3200m, using bulk crap uninstaller to delete all the toshiba bloat is the first thing. The toshiba bloat isn't bloat per say but its not going to be compatible with your os so power and cd drives refused to work till I killed things and becides they gave errors all over the show.Srs sucks at least with espeak but not 1core, just be prepaired for system slowdowns, also the speakers in the toshiba I worked on without srs crappyness were an utter joke, unlike this workstation which while it has some speaker and card cutout to control the powerfull amp, I have a pair of headsets that plugin to the single microphone headphone combo jack with the ability to do both and be quite good about themselves, so yaay for senheiser hd410s I guess.Anyway if all windows programs in the background do not run, and nothing like skype, cloud software, etc doesn't start and no background brouser stuff runs,  and nothing bar the drivers well, heck you could actually stop the realtech effects drivers from running completely because they still use the duel non integrated chipsets and you can probably kill srs and all the other effect processing to, and it would really be fine. For retros, I still have my broken dropped mangled floppy and hard drive keynote who's only thing works is its synth card, I wouldn't  even try to put the battery that got dropped with it back in, I really should throw that away. What I really would like is a retro system created just before hd audio came out, round the ac97 days where sound effects actually rocked, or back to 1998-99 where everyone used actual speakers, actual sound and video hardware and actual non integrated chipsets.Rumors on some lists are that some new asus units don't even have the combo jack.I guess they expect you to run bluetooth like that, I didn't want to but maybe my next thing to get will have to be a pair of 300 series senheiser motif or whatever it is with a dule bluetooth and cord combo, I almost got those, probably should have.Saying that with all the laptops now days going with single 256-1tb ssds, and mostly 256gb, I am either running of external drive all the time or just have a laptop and a desk system.Either a miniture, or one of those pro desk units, highly modable in design, really cool.

Re: Accessible benchmarking tools?

Some online stuff works. For me I use an old bit of online software still using internet explorer for goodness sake called pcpitstop.comThe online tests are top notch and work. The only caviat and weakness is because they want to get you to buy their software they hype their censors a load.So it will tell you things like update drivers, and the like as well as junk files, fragmentation, etc.Its still good to find out things like system ranking, potential disk errors over a certain threshold, and standard performance metrix. For the net I use the ookla speedtest command line client as well as speedtest.net or linetest.nz.The issue with the online sites is they are only configured for up to 100mbps in any direction and don't always give acurate readings. For the rest, belark adviser is still usefull for finding out what you have, though if you don't want anything to spaciffic you can try installing the intel driver and support assistant.Even if you are not intel it will tell you various things in an online table, bios version, the make of your core hardware, etc.I used it to update the version of bios in a system that it no longer supported by finding what it was in this table.Belark is still usefull to find things like main board number and such though windows system info does work to.I am unsure about sisoft sandra or aieda32 but back in the day those worked.I have never needed it since 1998, but norton system works may or may not work for you.Its interface is completely web based but I don't use huge mainline corperation suites these days.

Hi all. What a perfectly wanderfull topic. So I mustly drink coffee, but I have had had the terkish apple tea before as my parents went touring turkey 10 years back.Seems funny talking about travel, travel who existed just 2 years before the world ended and now.I am however myself happy I did so much. There are a couple more trips outside I'd like to do, but realistically, I could just stay in my country, or a city like my own for the rest of my life. That bug has left my system at least for the moment, I just feel for the poor buggers that havn't had the chance to go outside their borders, most of the older ones never will and the rest will have to contend with the new world which is not the same as the one that was taken from us.Mind you they said the world would end in 2012, they just got it wrong by 8 years.I'm just thankfull that it wasn't the planet breaking up.Now on to tee.Twinings lemon and ginger, ulong grass tee, either totally green or not so much is ok.Being that half my family is indonesian chinese, I do drink jasmine though zsometimes find that a bit strong.Malatea pronounced mallat tee is from another flower not sure its name.It tastes jasmine like and is quite light. There are shops that bring it in.Irish breakfast, new york breakfast good teas to.Raspberry tea, and some desert teas are good to.We have a shop here called t2 that has imported teas from everywhere both in bags and loose leaf.On my last trip to australia, just before the world ended had me experience a tea ceremony at a family friends place.I found it interesting to say the least.Who'd have thought that a tea drink could be extended to half an hour most of that with doing the getting ready thing then drinking it over another half hour.Especially when we locally just chuck in the bag, let it stew a couple minutes then drink.Sadly thanks to the current situation which has caused the rebirth of the world, shipping of things is becoming a problem everywhere. There are talks about more to come to.not sure how that will be taken but for now we can enjoy the break.

Re: Windows Compatibility on Apple's New Hardware From Now on

Well personally I have pulled back from vm software for a while. My biggest issues on something like vmware are that the new version still did not improve some of the input fields and such. The interface has been weird as ever.I may have not updated my enhanced keyboard driver but it was unchecked in install so I thought nothing about it.This was a big mistake.Windows keyboard class was completely destroyed, only had the mouse.I managed to get my dad to do a restore but I was close to just reformatting. On removing vmware things were a lot faster.I may try with virtual box and or maybe vmware without enhanced keyboard again, just the player but I am not sure if I ever will go back.Vmware seem to be business orientated, ie you need a support contract to actually get support from them. They obviously don't give a fuck about the blind, in fact I take it a step further, they don't give a fuck about anyone that does not have a support contract. So business only I guess. And if thats the case, thats them no longer on my tools list!I Payed 400 for their workstation and now its only 200.If I try this again I may try the unofficial virtual box portable which will run when I want it to.It seems to have a lot more configurable keyboard shortcuts off the bat, and its by oracle who make java and java is everywhere so I know its stable. You can buy a system for 600 bucks but you won't have much storage in it.maybe a 256gb ssd and thats it.You may be better with referbished or recycled hardware or second hand stuff. It is known that a lot of gamers and hardware testers test units. These systems last for 1-2 months then the next thing comes along and the system is sold. Its what I may eventually end up doing either this or x lease. You won't have the latest generation but it may not cost that much. You can then spend a little extra on extra drives, etc.

Re: linux kali getting started as a newbie, study project

To be honest, I'd not bother with kali at all.Sounds to involved for a beginner.I have stopped using vmware after a few issues. The first was that vmware latest 16 had a bug on install where it completely destroyed windows keyboard and I had to restore and remove it completely.I then found that I needed captchas to remember password, however I was able to get a password for my my vmware account.Only to find I needed a support contract to contact vmware support.Vmware works well enough, some fields are not accessible and don't seem that vmware cares enough to fix their issues or have an easy way to report them. With the removal of vmware I found performance increasing drasticly so I suspect that if I do get virtualbox, I'm either going to run it as the portable port or whatever. From reading bits on virtualbox it seems to have a lot of keyboard shortcut customisation which vmware does not even have. Its also free and maybe I will try again. Before I do that though I am going to find another computer to do vms on and not risk destroying my primary system.Usually I wouldn't bother but with covid, I need my windows computer to work.I refuse to have to reformat because vmware, a program I hardly use destroys my keyboard access completely.Worse its not like vmware seem to give a damn about users that are not businesses even though I did spend cash a couple years back on vmware workstation.

HmmmAgree with you there.Used to be against the single headphone microphone combo jacks.Except now I have a device a set of headphones by senheiser the hd 410s which just runs like a miniture stereo. As for usb c there are hubs for regular ports, hybred devices and others now. What I don't care for is the semi demize of the large drives on laptops.Yes there are 512gb and 1tb ssds but I have used a couple drives lately one for data the other for the os.Some stuff can still be done like this but even so.The only manufacturer even doing duel drives is lenovo hp had one for a while but not anymore at least not from pb technologies which is where I get a lot of my stuff these days.My latest unit which is at least 2 years old was one of the first entry level devices into the duel drive on a laptop thing and I absolutely like it.Eventually what will probably happen is I will get a miniture pc or one of those prodesks which is just a laptop in a bigger box case and maybe I can put another drive in that.To be honest the ports are not a big deal as I have a tp link 710uh hub which pluggs into the usb2 port leaving the 3 ports free for things.I have a slimline usb dvd writer that sits off to the side which is good for audio disk writing whenever I use that and thats about it.To be honest, laptops seem to become more for those that move around.I suspect the way laptops are going and for what I use the computer for, the next system may not be a laptop as such but either a miniture pc or a pro desk one of those boxes where you can easily modify things.I hardly ever take my laptop outside like I used to and while I like the quietness of a laptop, a small desktop sitting under the desk and a small screen would be fine now.I have some gaming speakers and such and its not that bad. What does concern me is the belieef we can run the os and everything on 1 drive or run everything from the cloud or carry round hdds.Yes hdds can be carried round but I have had drives fail, may be close to replacing a drive or so sooner or later.SSd drives are getting cheaper but still.Flash sticks depending on the price, you can easily carry round large 512gb sticks now if you want.If there are things I miss, its volume control on laptops, the fact that everyone now doesn't have different sound cards. While you may use emulated software, unless you have a small entertainment workstation like me, speakers are little crappy ones. The manufacturers can get round these with enhancements which just make things really overdriven and stupid.Because the graphics and sound are 1 chip, if one fails they all go.There was a time where I could lose graphics and sound would still be fine.Of course I really loath that no matter what soundcard you buy, if its on a chip its mostly realtech or viatech as a chipset no matter what the display is.I also want the old analog cards back as well as the internal midi synth, whoever got rid of that should be shot with a rifle.I mean don't get me wrong, coolsoft and my major emulation banks of soundfonts mean I can emulate just about everything from an sb16 to a nes but I still want the good old days back.I have yet to see an fm midi old sounding sb16 crappy synth emulated as font. While yeah its electronic shit, the fact is that a lot of the older games from duke3d down were written in that synth, and well doesn't sound the same. There are a lot of things I don't want back.Serial and paralel ports are still cool but hard to fit things to.I don't miss dialup networking though, I don't care for the fact that with broadband on fibre and wireless if the power drops the phones no longer work. Then again I don't miss paying 2.50 dollars an hour on a slow connection.

Re: Wondering what's wrong with me.

Master of mana, couldn't agree with you more. Its similar to the tools people use with computers.Everyone has a list they use.True its not officient.I can't fix all those programs that don't open, I just load all this big list of runtimes and codecs and other stuff on the systems I service.Chances are it works, but I couldn't tell you why.And of course it could be something different. It depends where you go and how to relax especially during this time.I have a family member which sees me all the time, and they have a patch of bush near their house. So during the last lockdown bar one time, if I need a break from reality, I take a hike and its all good. Not everyone has that resource. It also depends on your family.I have a couple of religious family members that while they are good, tend to well do what they all do.This is ok if you are that way but I am not.Talking to them gets a boilerplate set of answers so talking to them is not an option.I am sure some have that issue. So you need to talk to someone that really doesn't have a problem listening and has no other motives or anything and that can be hard its also good to have a good support network. Its known especially of late that lonelyness is one of the big killers, and with this virus its on the rampage.I have a friend that had issues with his legs.He got taken to doctors that said he had issues. His support network was really bad, basically he had pain in his legs.It turned out to be gout and he has gotten treatment and has returned to a mostly normal life. However it took 2 years and he has lost his job.To top it off he was treated with many other things first. He got depressed and angry, kept falling over and felt like doing himself in.His biggest issue was that no one cared to or wanted to listen to him thinking it was a mental issue.I rang him up earlyier in the week to find out his latest drama and to see what was what.Only to find that he was camping and enjoying life.So I guess he was lucky. He will have to take an extra tablet for the rest of his life but he is back to normalcy and that at least is a relief for me.I to have a friend who's family has depression and autism as a genetic thing. They are all bright, except my friend who as well as everything else has energy issues. And also heat and cold issues, basically no thermostat. So he gets overheated easily. The lockdowns have really been a real killer literally since the only thing he can do is shut himself down and not do anything much.So he and myself will finally go out on saturday after this second wave has finally gone in new zealand. To be honest I want to get him going out as soon as I can since he has spent the last 6 weeks or so in bed all day and doing nothing because as far as he cared there was no point trying to live if he couldn't go out. Then again he could have been like others in his family, but sadly he doesn't have superpowers, like being able to withstand extreme heat and cold, like some of his family. So it depends where you are in the spectrum. His father worked with computers, and his brother builds networks from scratch. So he got the short end.His chances like me are practically 0 although at least I have a slim to moderate chance of trying to get myself out if I found a string to grab, he doesn't have the energy to get that rope unless someone helped him up it.So yeah, guess it takes all sorts.Being blind actually does make me appreciate certain disabilities, and in fact makes me feel sorry for normals sometimes.Who else can read in the dark, and type and the only thing I need is a keyboard and a headset.Pluss I have a large memmory reserve and while I have stuff stored to, I have a lot of stuff in ram at any one time.If I forget something as long as I am in front of a unit or close to a network and my tools I can do almost anything. To be honest, I get depressed if there isn't an issue for me to process.I want to have a problem and try to fix it.On the other hand I hate people that just cause issues without asking me about them especially if I have solved them.My only big issue is that I am a horder of data.

Well, I'd run a memmory diagnostic and view the results in the eventlogs but who knows.Updating firmware and bios maybe.I just pulled the latest hp one from windows update and the hp site and updated everything else.Failing that there are boot disks you can get a sightling to test your ram and cpu on.It could be a bad module.I havn't had modules in laptops do this but in a desktop I used, things would crash and corrupt and do really stupid things.A test of the chips showed I had a bad chip, and also which chip it was.I have had a board go bad, a card go bad and in one case a hard drive secure board go bad and actually burn.So yeah boards can go fluffy on you but not that often.

Re: Wondering what's wrong with me.

Well, I have the same feelings on the edge of my thoughts constantly.Life for us blinks aint always that fair. For me it basically has meant without actually doing so the exclusion from work after I left tech. Not only is there no work available but those that were there to previde some assistance were basically junk.I have accepted that for the most part.In any case I am to old to try to bother with the old style office work even if I wanted to, thats fine to.I have a good  family and a good life.I work for a few online companies I like and have done a few things.I think the issue for most of us, is the achievements list set by society for the blind, and what is expected for normals.Lets face it, a lot of those are either unobtainable or hard to obtain.Things like getting a car and driving.Things like getting a house and family and a good job and a wife.Ok those can be obtained if you work towards that really hard but some things are harder to find than others.Getting the right qualifications excluding all the visual elements and other stuff going on that sounds easy but isn't.Have you traveled outside the country yet?During lockdown I got depressed.I have records of just about everything I had done so I pulled up a file or 2 and listened to what it was like before the world ended.Thats helped so far.If you can youtubes of travel channels like indigo travel or some blogs like globalromi may be something to read online.I wouldn't say I'm depressed either but I know what you are thinking, its about.Basically life is tough. Now its tough for the entire race, after all, this may be 1 in a string of enemies we will have to face and and have faced in a long time.We must fight to survive. Now that doesn't mean you won't be drained the bombs are not falling yet, but lets face it, we have been at war with the covid for 6 months at least. Not to mention having to carry on with the rest of our lives, switching them about, etc.Depending where you are and what resources you have thats not that easy.If you have a place in the bush close to your house to walk about for a bit then do so.If you have a place you can sit for an hour, doing nothing, with all your phones and stuff off do so.That has saved me.During travels, I often don't take any electronics, I also have a basic old mobile phone with no network access and I don't use it for anything bar clock and wifi when I need it.I have family that go with me and such.I havn't needed to wear a mask because during lockdowns I have not needed to use a bus or go to the shop but I have a friend that has some issues and will sleep during lockdowns and also has family with immune system issue.During the lockdowns I can't interact with him except via the phone.I think that is the hardest for me.To be honest I think its pritty normal to be a little depressed right now.Its at least 6 months of slog and who knows how many more months we must fight to end this war. Some say 2 more years some say we are close to a possible solution.Even if that goes, we still have to rebuild the world after.Thats going  to take a decade or 2 to do and things will never be the same.In theory we should be stronger and smarter but not everyone lives and those that do don't exactly win either. And this is not the only issue, there is the climate and the fact that everything else continues to go on, its a lot to handle at once.Covid has basically broken the world within 1-2 months. Its basically the apocolipse without the zombies and the nukes.Unlike other zombie movies, we still have power, most of our lives, shakey governments, but still governments. We have power and water and communications. And we have a lot of big computers doing most of the fighting for us.Not all of us respect our enemy but still we continue. Now granted if something like the entire world gets this thing and 50-98% of us die, then yeah, then start to worry.I think the worst thing to do is read about it online.I have a friend suffering from all sort of things mostly angsiety. She is on strong drugs and is fine. However if she has an issue she goes online.Suddenly she is reading the worst things and takes herself to hospital. The easiest way to handle this is knock yourself out for a bit.Thats not easy to do, shutting down your brain and opening your inputs especially while at home. Its hard for me and I know I should. While traveling, I turn off my personal clock, and my brain.I turn off my devices, I stop caring about life or who and or what I am and just travel as if I were a ghost or an alien exploring the unknown. If I am hungry I eat, and if I am tired I sleep. And if something comes along which I can't be bothered to listen to even if it may interest me, I sleep and let my recorder handle it.When I am at home, I listen to it on my big stereo and enjoy it even more.Sadly thats harder to do when at home.Don't think into this to much. You are not the only one that feels a bit uncertain right about now.To

Well you can get and use resilio sync as service or other bt sync client to get it.The key is.BCY4PMASSMX6PTEVJXU7RQOL4KBAZI5NPThe folder is 6.5gbNow, I can probably dropbox it to you in bits, but it would depend what you wanted. If you just want the tones, I can zip you the unzipped folder, the misc and carriors folders which have all the stuff and dropbox em and email them to you, though understand if you want it this way you will have to get them and get them quick and tell me when done.If its spaciffic phone you want that is easier.A note, there are some older phones who's ringtones can't be used normally and are just there for the hell of it historical reasons, etc.The phones folder is not updated often but it is maintained. There are a lot of people that seem to love hacking the phones and uploading megga dumps of data from time to time.Put it this way when updates are updated they are never small. There are now soundfonts and such and for those you will need coolsoft virtual midi to play with them and for the dls files veena or whatever the fuck its called to convert them. One of these days, I am going to grab this thing and try to convert the dls files to sf2 so others don't have to. but till then well.

Well get a job with an access company or as many companies as you can.Since covid, a lot of stuff is going online.I have 3 jobs with 3 access companies. Not all are payed but I have a few things that I do for testing sites from time to time. Not constant though. If you know enough about something, others may want to use it or hear you talk about it or want to use your knowhow on something and will pay you for it.Sadly some physical research stuff may be out at this time but research projects can pay well enough though again not constant. Finally there are clinical trials of things. There are a lot of these. You need to be healthy and be ready to take some risks.I heard one advertised yesterday on radio. They would pay 3.4 grand.Obviously sooner or later, you will find a bug.Bugs in projects are fine. But drug trials when there is a bug, then you really don't want to be at the end of it if you know what I mean. There are enough stories if you look at them that would make you quake.I certainly am not game to take that sort of risk. But yeah, the 3k was really tempting.

We need stories like that.I have had this happen quite a lot.I go to a couple asian style shops and lets say the owners are generous to a tea.Seriously, I go to buy something, I  get extra things for myself.Sometimes they are just suites, but once I got an rice cracker the size of an a4 page. And I was actually hungry. It took me 20 minutes to eat.I have been in a shop with all sorts of biscuits and stuff another time, and I noticed some ginger biscuits and asked what they were and how much.I was with my mum at the time. The lady behind the counter looked at my mum so I was told and I just got those for nothing at all which was nice.I have had many things like that.In my student days, the cafe often would give me extras.I always got out of classes just before closing time and they always had extra food. They knew I liked to eat cake so well sometimes I got extras. That was not good because I got quite large, but I was actually hungry so.There are probably a load more, my brother used the same taxi company for work and kept getting stuff from the drivers that were asian.I got the same to, and even a christmas card once.I have recieved food that was technically expired for half price, that would only last about a day or 2, but no food that is sweet last more than that anyway if that. The take away would always give free sossages and such while I was doing some student flatting. When I asked why, he said he liked to suppor the students especially those that were blind and since it was close to the blind school at the time it wasn't a bother for him, becides he had to give a lot of stuff away at the end of the night as it was. There are various other nice stories like that.God knows, we need them. Its been a hell of a year, and there could be 2 more at least of this to go, and at least 5-10 years to try to rebuild as long as things don't go bad again.Saying that, as humans we need something to fight against else we will not survive and become weak. And lets face it, as a race we havn't had anything really to fight against for a while. As long as I have some cash, power, the net and tom jones coming out of the echo connected to my living room stereo I don't mind that much.

Re: Strange behaviour with my PC

Hmmm I have to handle a lot of older hardware for my family. One of my uncles in particular likes to buy and use older stuff. He got one of the latest, well the system before his latest which is actually a good system. This system as usual was not a brand name hp box or anything but was a cludge of shit some guy put together, slapped some emulation software in to call it a system and put it online.Well after setting it up, full reformat and everything, it worked, but suddenly things started happening which didn't make sence.Updates installed but were half done, stuff like sound and things got screwed for no reason.User profiles corrupted for no reason. The system got malware and virus like behaviour, even though settings were fine.Yet, when I had it at my house, did the updates, set everything up, and got it working it wouldn't do.This went on and on and on, till I decided that it had to be something physical.Instead of doing what I usually would do, and update it via its wireless interface, I pulled the wireless card from the box and connected it via the network cable.Immediately the virus like behaviour stopped, software updated fine.I had to recreate the user accounts and update the mangled sound drivers but a malware check put it as fine and no issues. The logs though showed several interupted connections and the like.Firstly, before I say much more, look up ralink or raylink in wikipedia.Short answer, it doesn't exist anymore. There is no drivers for any of their stuff and guess what, its not even supported in windows like really much anymore. You can't even buy their cards anymore. The card was obviously dead.I got a large  tp link archer 4t2u which is an ac 1200 card which is quite old now. However, it at least does work.Maybe I could have got the miniture but as it is it sits on top of the unit and it runs like its supposed to.Windows likes to do stuff while it idols. If it decides to be like that then the windows shell experience is stuck. it often gets stuck here. One thing you can try, is after installing all updates, and all drivers as well as firmware, follow your computer maker's instructions on flushing theram and other memmory modules. In most units being desktops with a reset button.Turn off the unit, pull the plug, take out all the devices.turn off the switch at the back, hold the reset for 5-15 seconds, then plug the stuff back in slowly, try your keyboard first.hit the power button and wait.If nothing happens hit that enter key or f1 or whatever you need to do.You may or may not need sight to exit setup but most likely you have a boot menu to hit enter on.It may fix things. On systems with a power only, same procedure but its the power to hold down for 5-15 seconds. In laptops hp but maybe others, for the battery ones, remove everything and pull the battery.then hold power for 5-15 seconds, 15 is suggested.Without a battery, skip the battery step but the rest is the same pritty much.I have always had fan noise going nuts.I did a bios update and also a firmware update and the system couldn't find the boot device  for a few rounds. It turned out the chips needed a hard flush or powered reset. If you are lucky, this is probably all you need to do.My fan no longer does bad things. It will also refresh your devices if they are not working right.Certainly things have run a lot better after a powered flush of the chips. If this doesn't work, resetting bios or a reflash may need to be in order pluss another reset. But yeah, its something I only just recently found out how to do and its solved a lot of issues.

Re: Starting in linux

To be honest, I am not sure about vm software.Vmware player 15 may work for you but not 16.Even with vmware installed, you do get a few accessibility issues.1.  when typing into fields like name virtual machine, path, etc you will get no feedback. Not exactly sure if I screwed something up by not checking enhanced keyboard on upgrade when I had that loaded but for me vmware workstation 16, managed to destroy the keyboard class and no keyboards would work.I managed to get with mouse support into advanced options and restore the system without reformatting but I was close to doing so and can no longer recommend vmware because it totally broke windows keyboard subsystem.I am unsure about virtualbox. From all the linux distributions that I doodled with, my favorites were ubuntu mate as well as linux mint.Arch is fine if you can get round the fucktun of commands and get them all working, I wouldn't recommend it to a beginner. For a beginner in a command shell or that wants full capabilities I would try the enormous debian distribution that can be scaled. Its got commandline disk images and a large desktop image set.But its rather large. If you can get it working slint could be a good point but I never did, it always screwed up during load.Jenux may work but the install script when I tried it was full of errors.www.cutt.us/blindvms has most of the trials and tribulations with me and linux virtual machines. You need a system with virtualised hardware, even then its not a walk in the park there will be some slowness there always is.One thing you could try is cygwin though I never got it working well. The setup is a bit flakey but, if you want to fuck about then that may be the next best thing. If you just want to run program x y or z, chances are they are in windows or at least run in the windows console. Most linux things have windows ports at least the popular ones. Now if you don't mind using ancient software, you can use fedora 4 5 6 or 7 which did yhave the old espeak system installed. One thing to note, from experimenting, the blind can run lxqt, xfce and lxde though I have never succeeded. We can't aparently do kde and I know from experience that gnome3 is just a no go.So unity we can, gnome 2 now called gnome classic and gnome shell.

Hi all.Interesting news on fusion.I decided to upgrade from workstation 15 to 16.Firstly if you were expecting better accessability there aintany. The issues I have had with vmware still exist, imput fields not reading back text when I input, etc. This is not the worst of it.In previous vmware installs I installed the enhanced keyboard just for kicks and to see what the fuss was about. This time I decided not to install the upgrade, not sure if that was stupid or who knows.I just upgraded the vmware 15 to 16 without that selected.I rebooted. And boom, all keyboards no longer worked.I couldn't access anything bar use the mouse.I managed to get sighted help to access things and simply put all my devices were a mess, no keyboards externally worked and just about everything was mangled device wize with reguards to just about everything else.I was able fortunately to restore to the previous day.Fortunately that day had an update of ccleaner, that update was a portable version of ccleaner. There were no other updates scheduled that day so I lost nothing. However I was really close to just reformatting because I couldn't access windows. There isn't anyone really I can ask to help me with this.Maybe it was me not checking a box, but to be honest, I only got vmware workstation to test windows systems, check linux distributions, etc.Now this wouldn't be bad but with my computer being my communication device for work well if it went I'd have to cancel all my life for the rest of the week and maybe some work for next week due to vmware fucking up my windows system.I have removed vmware now and am contemplating deleting my reg code and other licences.I am lucky I never brought the upgrade, and in either case I have lost my my vmware password. It needs a captcha to login.Sadly everything from communitys, to support, to feadback needs my vmware to work and while I could get sight to help me with this, I can't be bothered anymore. At this time if I need a vm I will try virtualbox or something. Then again, I am all set to not bother with virtual machines anymore.I never really got into all that and now vmware almost screwed windows. An interesting note is that after removing workstation and all vmware programs off my reasonably fast system, the performance went up.This is quite disapointing, I was going to recommend vmware to others.I no longer can obviously do this anymore.Vmware are behind an account with an inaccessible software, their software does work but I can't even report a bug or something now.

Re: wireless keyboard. which one to choose?

Well on the subject of the board, the mk200 series is ok but there is an fn key and another key to access right click and some other things. Its a bit more squashed. The only reason I got it instead of a full sized board was that I got a keyboard mouse combo for 30 bucks when it is usually 60.If you don't mind the price and the smaller keys the microsoft stuff is probably the easiest as its only got 1 mouse keyboard centre.Logitech has the mouse and the options software which wile they can be installed the options software is not the most accessible thing in the universe. As for why you would need them, covid19 for me was why I ended up doing that for my aunt. For myself, my laptop and speakers and d rives, on my desk and a wired asus strix pro gaming mechanical red cherry supports me quite well though to be honest who knows once this dies if it ever does I may buy a brown switch board.I personally have had no issue with any logitech devices. As for the birds nest, yeah my aunt had a microsoft board and genius mouse connected to a cheap crappy chinese usb hub. This worked, but she never left her laptop on her desk. After covid she needed to do things like get a screen, and such.Technically after she lost her job there was a plan to get the laptop off the dining table but its never happened. Now with an hdmi cable of some length and a monitor, I decided to just get a wireless keyboard mouse combo and get rid of the extra clutter. It wasn't needed and it took space. The mk200 series have 3 year battery life on the board and a 1 year on the mouse and was one reason I went to buy those devices. My only gripe is the fn key on the right lower half to access some windows functions and not dedicated keys and the closeness of the keys, but it was going for 30 bucks.Initially my aunt hated the board but she doesn't mind now she has got used to it.Now the clutter is greatly reduced and the laptop has 2 cables out of it.A rf transmitter handles the wireless and its portable enough. My plan eventually is to go wireless with the screen maybe since windows does support it.

Re: How the hell do I stop rocking?

As for the pressing eyes thing.Finding why you do it is the best idea then making yourself stop. For me, it happens when I am almost about to be to tired to work anymore usually late at night. If I feel like pressing, then I am usually getting sleepy. And its usually time to sleep. If I suddenly have the urge to press then its time for bed. Some days like today where I have had to get up to hit the loo in the middle of the night, I may feel tired but its a different tired.Used to do this a lot, however my eyes are just not in good condition anymore. They itch a lot and other such things.I do take drops.Either I will wait for better implants or something.Or I'll get bored with them and just get them terminated. For obvious reasons I'd prefer not to bother about fake eyes that are just not doing much.I do use glasses most of the day but thats acceptable, a lot more these days since people think it looks like I am cool or smart or like a gangster or something.

Re: How the hell do I stop rocking?

Well, it depends why you like to rock.I enjoy rocking a lot to be honest. There are a few things you can do to acceptably rock.1.  get a rocking chair.2.  use a swing.3.  play nice dance or rocking music and rock to that.I do this a lot.If I feel like rocking a lot I load some 1960s rock, and turn it up and rock.Outside the home.Yeah, not sure about that.I used to play piano, no one minds if you rock to your own beats.Other than that, I'm not sure. The only time I do rock is if I am waiting for an important thing somewhere like a meeting, nerves I guess. But others have ways to handle those especially if the wait is lenghthy.I would personally not bother about it.The difference is if you don't dance or rock normally. Then if you actually like to rock it may annoy you. Then again, I have not got that many normal friends. My best one is autistic and he rocks all the time and other things much worse.Who cares if they say you are retarded, it can't be much worse than drumbing fingers or tapping feet at least its noiseless.

Well this depends on all systems I service I install.1.  directx latest.2.  all visual c runtimes from 2005 to the present day.3.  vb6 extended, the vb6 libraries, office compatability packs if I need to though not working with latest office releases so don't do that currently anymore.Nvda, and the addons I need, zoom, skype, 7zip, cd burner xp, acrobat, chrome and the new edge. All optional features and all speech extra voice packages from the right settings of course.I know half of these things are language packs.I have a library of universal apps including alexa I also install. The codecguide klite pack, and java.On my personal system chocolatey and nodejs for npm, github, my games, vmware workstation for my vms, winaero tweaker and ribbon disabler.ccleaner portable is on all my systems I do admin as well.Thunderbird and waterfox. If I had to take it down, I could manage on 7zip, thunderbird, waterfox classic, adobe reader, cd burner xp and jarte.I also have itunes but I guess I could manage wint 7zip ccleaner portable, thunderbird and waterfox classic if I had to.Most of what I install are runtimes and the like for older games.

Re: What is Your Favourite Online Backup or Cloud Storage Service?

To be honest I have been toying with keybase at least for a public and semi private share with 250gb of storage. Its not a complete backup but good for an on demand share. The catch is while it appears its fine on the mac, the windows client is a total fucking mess with unlabeled buttons and links.I like the idea of keybase being an online file system. But yeah, even though I have unlimited bandwidth, who knows.I am still in the market for something that will backup, ie, a software that will.1.  do a full system backup to a drive of a drive and maybe select user folders on another drive and keep each updated on every incert of that drive.Obviously it needs to track things somehow.Or modify a already setup drive with data with stuff from the drives and folders I put into it.I need this for a workstation which has a data drive and some other folders on the system drive used by my dad.It needs to be simple, secure and low cost.I have the drives so yeah.I need it to be accessible from the point of view that if it needs to track and monitor things, I will want to have ways to control it, ie, if I am doing admin things for example for system files I may want to pause it, turn it off, etc, especially if I download and delte temperary downloads etc.I need it to be usable by the sighted and blind and I need it not to use massive performance. while its working and idoling.Obviously there will be some, however I have had times in the past where the system uses so much power it crashes out the entire system and after I get a sightling to varify its complete I need to reboot the system completely to get it to work.I have also had some of those fluffy hard drive manufacturer backup programs while  they did do what they did, used all resorses just simply running.I had to uninstall all of it, clear its data then reformat just  to get rid of all the space filling junk it put in windows. It wasted a lot of time and made the system almost unusable while doing so.I want something to just work.Oh and if it does all this I need  it to be secure, I don't want someone able to lift the backup database and read it or anything.

Re: Your choice? Would you restore your vision?

I am in 2 camps on this one.1.  why not.I have nothing to lose.My eyes as I have got older have gotten softer. They hurt, I waste 30 minutes a day with drops, I need sighted help with one of them so luckily I am at home. And eventually I will need them to be removed. So I will be with glass eyes, no light perseption, well hummm more problems.Saying that jobs are harder to find even when you are sighted now days.As others have said though, I have never seen in my life, having gotten this when I was new born.I am 38 years old.And while I can type, I can't write, or read or anything.Take it all away and I am pritty much dumb and retarded sight wize because I never saw to begin with.If I was a yunger man but I am 38, almost 40 years, even if I relearned everything, what would happen after that, its doubtfull I'd have any meaningfull life even if I could do that.I wouldn't be able to get a job necessarily or qualifications or anything, would probably have to start at primary school all over again. For me it just wouldn't be worth it.Though I must admit replacing my eyes with tech sounds appealing.Saying that if I could upload my mind to the net, get my busted shell killed off, get reborn into another unit and download all thhe skills and memmories I want to keep, maybe into the next world since this one is about done I think, then yeah I'd do it right now.Heck probably I'd do a lot more than that. But we are not close enough to anything just yet.Even if I could now its probably to costly I'd never afford it.At least for people with my condition its a lot more rare now days and can be prevented.I may be the last of my kind on this earth or one of the last. Its good enough to know that there may not be as many after me if ever.My eye specialist who has handled these sorts of things before has told me that in my year I was born with the tech, there were a lot more that had brain dammage and other issues. The fact that I am just blind and needing help and not utterly retarded or being really slow is actually good, a lot of others have been a lot worse than me.I could have been one of the unlucky ones and never knew.I have experiences some do not and never will.At any rate, the world is changing, and in some ways covid is leveling the world out.Working from home is actually a job location. And that actually levels things out a bit for me.People talk to their devices.Once some of this mainstream stuff gets accessible or rather accessible stuff becomes expected in mainstream thats going to level things a lot more.Sadly things like nvda and jaws will probably die as well as special devices to a point but if everyone uses it then it will be used. This is the first step.Preventing disability in general is another. Both of these are achieveable if not right now then at least in our lifetimes certainly mine.Sight, while I don't necessarily want to do it myself I am sure we may see it maybe.

The closest to what you want was klango long may it live in memmory. It wasn't all good but it was close to a modern opperating system. To be honest blind spaciffic software like this is really restrictive. In the old days I had keysoft, getting to dos was liberating, and now in windows I can run what I want.My closest suite I ever had was norton system works before it sucked and avg itself before it also sucked. All the tools at my fingertips and all of them working.Tools leading to other tools, etc.And you got your money's worth because you worked it daily.I do have suites, winaero tweaker and applian video conversion suite but I can't say I use those every day, winaero is used and forgotten about unless I need to toggle a setting on.The applian suite is hardly used as I have pontes media.I've never bothered nore will I ever with going back to anothher suite of restrictive software.I guess if norton stopped being such a hog I'd go back to system works as it was not as it is now.Windows doctor, system optimizer, disk doctor, registry cleaner and tuner though you don't need to clean anything and I have never done that even with ccleaner now these days.I guess if we are being nostelgic skylam intellydialup was a fucking good bit of software. That went out the window a little with adsl and completely with vdsl and fibre.

Well yes it is, but valve don't want the blind using steam. The steam client has never been fully accessible even though its website seems to be.Now if guidedoggames had paypal and more titles that may be a good alternitive at least for blind games. Some security guys online say windows defender is not that good. With bgt and a lot of accessible software being false positives, I am not sure how my virus scanner protects me.I have excluded all games folders in program files, all blindness everything in fact.I have excluded all drives from d to g, because f and g are my backup hard drives which are not plugged in all the time, drive e is my cd drive, drive d is my data drive. So if anyone put a virus laden drive on f or g then I'd probably get a virus and have to reformat but its bettr than getting false positives I guess.I like windows defender but the fact we have no choice is a concern, there are many other antivirus checkers and some have a few more bells and whistles, bells and whistles I am not missing on but which I wish to have.

Re: All Hope is Lost with my computer. Can anyone give me

Well what I really hate are devices that run spicifically to that device. My brother used to use a set of good headsets. These were for his speech.Sound switched to the sets when in use.Sound didn't switch to anything else unless that set was in and running and then you could switch to something else.I once had to do some work on his system, and luckily the set was there so I could use it to switch to the internal card again.I always keep a usb card with me and a set of cheap headphones so I get sounds so I can switch back.Hdmi anything especially if it doesn't have speakers on it like a screen is a real problem.Windows aint smart enough to check if that is the case so when hdmi is plugged it assumes another output.I could see how that would work if my stereo had an hdmi output but really that would be it.To be honest, I have had a interesting conversation with people I fix computers with.Them, I noticed things took a long time and my data seems to be off the system.Me, the system was broken.Them, what happened?Me, there was no sound so I couldn't get access to it.Them, so?Me, well I needed to reformat so I could use windows, please make sure you use the default sound card next time.Sometimes this was broken or speakers were broken but still gets me angry.I am seriously thinking that in the future I will keep a cheap shitty card in all the places I work so if I need it then I can use it at least. They don't cost much for an emergency card, a pair of really crappy piece o shit headphones cost 5 or so dollars. And a cheap 7.1 soundcard from atguys cost me 10 bucks.Technically windows is supposed to change default devices automatically but its always chosing the first device plugged into it.And for some reason, the hdmi or your usb soundcard take priority to the other cards.I personally would like windows to never change to any other card even if default was plugged in.Either that or have nvda always use the default internal card all the time. Its also a pitty that most windows programs including some games don't start on cards that actually work, or are in the wrong place.

Re: For Fans of MSN Messenger, it's back! Well... Kinda

To be honest, I don't know.Yeah in its day msn was really good.Would I'd like it back? well if all was fare yeah I would. But like everything, who is even on it now days.Msn is now skype. With whatsapp and other such things now my gut says that skype isn't something everyone uses especially with zoom now.For myself, due to the death of msn I went skype, and due to the crazyness round skype, even though it does cut me out of a lot of the remote job market, I have made a concious effort to not use platforms that can be turned off in a second. The latest is twitter which at least was good for direct messages. To be honest, if I didn't have to, I wouldn't even use forums like this, email is probably the only communication still available.Would I go back?Again it would depend on well if everyone else I had in my circle came back. The days of swapping large sound libraries, bits of code between my hacking group and the like were nice memmories. However so much has changed between 2000 and 2020.These changes can be noticed with the overzellous security software to the emergence of all those security breaches on online services and creditcard previders. To ransomware. Its just not safe anymore to live chat as it used to be.And while we have miranda, well who knows.I made the decision last year to delete miranda completely, why? because not many use it, msn, aim, icq, those were my muse for the last 10 or so years and they all died. Its not just, a lets bring it all back, its bringing everything back in time to.Would I go back, if things could go back to how they were, probably.Would I try now, probably not.Put it this way, even though I have zoom, and can use it bar the stuff I need to do, I don't actually use it for myself. My last skype call I did was not that recent either though I still use and have skype updated.I sms mostly for local stuff and everything else is via email.I don't need to livechat anymore but I do miss it.Could I go back, I don't know, things have moved on quite a deal.Back then I was a student, I had less to do than I have now, I was fat, and lazy and didn't care and could while away the days online imagining me as a big man in the real world. Now over the other side as it were, I am still fat, as I like eating.I am not as lazy, but between my podcasts, email, socal media, gaming and the like I barely have time for a chat in fact I need to remind myself I have an offline life and actually try to make myself exit  the matrix for a while.I mean this ain't even the matrix like the movies as I am still in reality but if its hard to leave the computer now it would be worse in the movies.Point is, I don't know if I would go back at least not right now. Now, maybe in another 30 or so years when my family are gone and I am in a disabled institution waiting for my meat to die so I can shift worlds maybe I may revisit the interdimentional transfer point which is online. For now, I have as much to do here as I do in meat space.I did experience the cyber life back in my 20s though and was tempted to stay. These days I have barely the time to really devote to things and seem to slack off from time to time.Going back to somethhing like this would be nice though as long as say miranda, etc worked with it.The best messenging client I ever used was old windows messenger 5.1, the one that was never updated, the one that never changed.I'd like old msn back maybe with skype like functionality so you could talk to your contacts if you wanted.I'd like that back in miranda.I mean I could just as easily get on facebook messenger if I had a life in that space but I don't.My social media nodes are to read other's media nodes and not post. The closest connection I have to that time is skype and my circle is basically fucked, most are gone, and not much else.

Hmmm keynote products need a keynote gold to work. Now keysoft and even keynote gold multimedia are demos, so you can probably get them if you know where to go but even those at humanware say that the licence system is dead on all those. So technically they are free to use, copy, distribute, etc. However those old keysofts need to be cracked to get past the protection and that was all on floppies as it was and they don't even have that anymore. The software is basically public domain at least the old dos and windows versions are basically that because they no longer are used at all but good luck making that work was when I talked to their people 10 years back.No idea what current status currently is though.I know keysoft is on their newer laptops and note devices and on android. You may have better luck just maybe asking if they could sell keysoft mastertouch etc or at least those designed for android as stand alones, I know they write stuff for their actual expensive locked units but it wouldn't take much for them to sell those if they wanted on standard droid since thats all they are now. However if you can't find a keynote gold multimedia synth, you will need an keynote gold sa, speech card or voice card.No computers are made with the internal synth anymore, the sa needs serial ports, actual serial ports etc so you can't really do that. There was never a bcmcia version and no one uses pcmcia cards anymore as it is.The keynote gold voice speech card needed from its manual an isa slot and no one makes those anymore. On the top of that keysoft may have had some windows files but it was a dos program.Keysoft is limited to the 286, 386, and 486 pcs and their varients.Simply put you can't run keysoft for windows on windows, because believe me if you could run keysoft and mastertouch on modern windows I'd be buying it just for kicks. My idea with keysoft would have been some sort of shell and you set things up like you would do, something like klango but a bit better. However we will never know.Technically you can use keysoft on windows.I have uploaded my old dos archives oldgames.7z to batsupport, in it I have quemm, keysoft 1.33f mastertouch 1.32 and a version of norton utilities and even dos 6.22.Assuming you have disks to write the images with rawwrite and as long as you can get that done, you can install keysoft 1x and mastertouch 1x.However at minimum you need a physical keynote gold synth. And the best you can get is an sa if you found one.You would then need a serial port which means you need an ancient laptop though you can still have them on desktops maybe if you ask for one and they don't cost that much to get. However bar using an encoded version of their files, including printing and the like, if you want to use keysoft 1x, then use notepad because that is all keysoft1x is, notepad with a dictionary.Keysoft 2 expanded on top of that, so imagine notepad inside clango guide or similar app.If you really want to use keysoft buy a cheap android smartphone and you probably have keysoft with added modules. Its not worth even looking at.There was a time after my old box died that I searched for a replacement especially since I did have access to an sa.However it was just to fucking hard even in 22008 when I looked for it.Worse as I said keynote gold synths recommended requirements were a 386sx, and it was just crazy looking for one.If I hadn't dropped my laptop then maybe. However even if someone gave me a laptop now be it a 486 or something, unless I had a cd drive for it or some huge collection of floppies, I couldn't use it.Last year during a cleanout of the house for some upgrades I finally bit the bullet and dumped every floppy disk I had.In the next few months I will be doing the same to my ancient backup cd library, as while I do have a lot of stuff a lot of it was outdated now.I have hard drives and well if they die I hope I can replace them before I lose everything else. Now don't get me wrong if I was able to get another keynote gold 1800 or a 2400 toshiba the last of them about 8 years ago I'd have done that. However it didn't happen and even if I did I couldn't do that.As it is the only thing I would miss is keysoft itself since dosbox does just about everything else.Glulx winfrotz, wintads etc do that stuff.Agility does agt.The only games that I don't have that sort of access to use dosbox themselves. There was a time with latest nvda that the if interpretors addon for nvda didn't work but I asked its dev and got it ported.

Re: Gaging interest in the public electronic game library

Hmmm I actually think we should have 2 things.1.  an active ftp upload or something like that for the library or just as we are doing it and an update of the library.I'd say a resilio sync key, for active contributors but then it gets harder and I am not going to be online all day since this is a family connection and I really don't want to bog it down with resilio, pluss while its unlimited with all the streaming devices in the house I know resilio uses bandwidth like crazy. But keep these links coming also every so often the main library should be updated with newer material would actually be good if the library was active on a server or something, you downloaded the library but would have a way to update it with a program or something.

Re: I have a mac vm?

Well there is a community of people called the hackentosh community.Like all jailbreaks apple isn't discouraging this as such but they don't allow it either. Some stuff run on jailbreaks they use for whatever they want as a feature of the os, they just can't publically allow it.You can buy macos on cd or used to for 30 bucks or so so the os is cheap enough.I guess if you really wanted to be legal with it you could buy an old mac, reformat it, slap windows on it, then load macos on it as vm or the other way round.

Re: Best new laptop, for streaming?

It depends on what you plan to use for streaming.A laptop is portable.I myself have used laptops all my life.My small entertainment workstation is super quiet, quieter than a desktop.Never the less I am contemplating getting a desktop for virtual machines since I can only handle 1 at a time here due to space on drives. As well as this I may use this for streaming. So in that reguard as long as you can connect to something that does all the work you probably won't need much.

Well the standard theme should work.Saying that on the blog I run with another we use a theme called injegno. The theme does work reasonably well though it is not mobile compatible and google keeps harping on about it but since at least 50% of the blog use desktops we are not concerned about small text, images, etc. What is a concern is the fact that a lot of its fields and things for various things are in italion, not enough to screw things over but enough to annoy.Things like submit buttons, comment fields, etc are not translated into english and say strange words. Its easy to guess what they are but even so.Saying that, not that anyone has bothered you could probably easily edit and remove the junk names in the fields and actually put actual messages in that make sence but oh well. This theme has never had any updates either.Depending on what you are using and how you want your site the standard wordpress theme is probably ok.Its updated every wordpress version and the old wordpress themes are still about.

I would second ubuntu mate.Anything which is mate is accessible.I would recommend mint for being quite accessible.Note I haven't got all of these working but the following desktops should work. With the exception of kde which is not accessible and gnome3 which has a lot of inaccessible stuff in it the following things should work.Mate is the best but xfce lxde and lxqt are supposed to work.Gnome shell, gnome2 classic which is old and unity.A small warning about ubuntu though. There is an iinaccessible installation post step which will need sighted help to get through after that it may just work.Another note.If people want to doodle gnom3 is mostly accessible, but the settings app aint and maybe other stuff won't work.Potentially accessible is ciniman but I never got that started though when I used it with a distro that had it it seemed to have accessability support. For the beginner, mate is easy to install and use, its just like windows, except it has an xp like menu and a windows 7 style search box and menu as well as run etc.

Well, I just tried on vmware.hitting s at boot will start speakup with debian net on 10.3.0.However during install just after netconfig the speech cut out.alt windows and s should in theory start orca.I also tried to install a live system and well lets just say that didn't start either.I would suggest you simply try ubuntu mate or mint mate as live systems.True you only get pulse audio and if you need command line support you will have to install alsa-utils and espeakup, and then do sudo apt-get remove pulseaudio.I actually am unsure if that would break audio though since mate uses it to start so not sure.Linux mint may be a good idea if all you want to do is run a desktop.Later pulse doesn't seem to have any issues with orca in command mode but who knows. One thing that did anoy me is I was unable to use alsamixer to push the volume up which I would have liked to do before install. If you want a command line distribution, maybe using arch would work though I have never managed to get a copy of arch working.I am unsure how I would configure alsa to talk to mate instead of pulse audio, then disable pulse audio, and restart then remove pulse audio without completely bricking my system though.

Well I'll keep this till it gets to big.Ultrabit is good but its updates have slowed down and its basically static now.It used to have a lot of extra formats but they did a space save and now well its about 20gb or so in size now.I'll keep this about and see what it does.If it gets to big like over 50gb though I will have to bin it.On that note how do you remove things from bt sync?also, you probably don't need full versions of winamp here just plugins etc foobar configs are fine to I guess. One thing thhat is missing is a changelog to keep things updated so I don't have to keep looking on what is or isn't updated from time to time. Also 9 files can't be downloaded right now for some reason but I am still getting the archive right now.Sadly I just removed it.Sorry man, but ultrabit coppies a lot of this stuff and having extra 7z files of things I have allready in multiple locations is well its ok but still. You seem to be sharing a lot of what ultrabit has allready.Maybe a list of your sources here could be put so people could get things, and maybe anything not in ultrabit could be conciddered. As for the guy that says finding your own chips, you can't find all of them and I have stuff in ultrabit I never knew existed. If I like someone that much I generally search for their bandcamp page and buy their compiled cds and digitals.I do have my own chips to.Oh and I figured out how to remove files.you need to right click a folder's usercount, then find the options button hit forms mode in nvda hit enter. exit forms mode and scroll to the end then you can remove the folder. Then you can clear it from your hard drive.

Hmmm, join the club.I was like you at the age of 22 years and now I am 37.After living in a student flat/lifeskills program where no one actually did what they were supposed to for a year, I lived my life on kfc, pies, packets of biscuits, and chips.I drank many cans of v a day and was an utter slob.My brother told me I had to train at 9 am every day.I didn't really care for it.You won't either, you will get sore, you will get tired, and you won't care about it at all.Eventually you will realise that you are stronger, and better and feeling really cool.Ok, but I am not going to bullshit you.It took me 3 years of going at it for 2 hours a day and eventually 2.5 hours a day, doing all sorts of gym work at home.It was hard and my brother and I had a lot of fights over it but in the end it was worth it.He has now got a propper life, a job, a girl and a house, things I can only dream of.With him gone I have reduced down to 1 to 1.5 hours a day during the week and 2 hours on saturdays. It used to be a lot longer.I still feel cool doing it, and really feel the buzz afterwards. However I must say there are differences between what my brother thinks I should do and what I think I should do.He thinks I should push myself till I am physically done.I think I should do a set program, and finnish it without any distraction or anyone else so I can just get it done and still have energy for later.Under his instruction sure maybe I got a bit better, but I would spend the rest of the day sleeping. Now I can spend most of the day and bits of the night up but only because I do it myself. So short story is yeah its definitely worth all the work, sweat and tears and all the hell. This morning, I woke up to a full lockdown. After doing all my training, update checks, and in house chores, after waking up at 7.30, having my serial and making one phonecall to a friend its almost mid day and I am only just touching the computer right now.And while I will have to put in times to walk with my family outside and someone else I have included in my bubble weather permitting, I am actually going to struggle to actually fit it all in.Its only after this virus happened that I realise that I have actually a lot of stuff I have still to do, and a lot that I have put off.

Re: Corona Virus: is it the beginning of the end?

Hmmm, what interests me is how its broadcast now. There was a hint that vaxine research was ongoing, but that that would be in our recovery phase. You can interpret that in several ways but to my thinking it sounds to me that while in lock down we are all waiting till cases drop.we have 2 possible community transmition cases which are unconfirmed. Our cases are 102 but 2 of these are the issue here.Maybe they are right, maybe not.Predictions are that it will get worse but we will know in 2-3 weeks if we were right or not so they say.As for the planet moritz, in principal I agree with you.In practicality, when we come out of this, whenever that is, hopefully in a month's time, and for some much later we will need jobs and echonomy fast. That will mean a big investment in fuel, that means oil and petrol. No one will be concerned about the planet, we will want to get back to normal life as quick as we can. Some like my dad and a few friends say we will have a new normal.I doubt it very much that in fact we will have a new normal. With most of the markets gone its going to be a struggle. Then an interesting thing popped up at breakfast today, with the reduction of maintanance and other services we could have a power failier, except power is the factor that handles every other service which is essential. Our lock down includes essential services. If one of those stops, technically the lockdown is stopped as well unless it comes back quickly.I don't think our government has thought about this.To my mind, the lockdown can only work if its terms are met. Those terms include the lowering and zeroing of our current caseload. It also includes and garantees essential services will be stable to some degree. If either of these terms are null and void, then the lockdown stops no matter what. For me there are 2 scenarios.1.  it goes as expected, cases drop to a number we can handle, everything goes back to a mostly functional lifestyle though we will have to keep clean and  safe obviously, we should do that anyway as it is.2 and most likely, we lose a service like power or something for an extended period of time like more than a couple minutes.Power, water and coms are essential. We lose power, no cell towers, tv, radio, the net, water and suddenly you have a problem. Some services have generators but not every household has one of those.I don't think anyone has even thought about that eventuality.Lets hope their either think about that and have or well who knows.I just hope it works as expected.People are expected to stay at home and wait it out while someone else does what is needed. That assumes of course nothing else goes wrong.

Hmmm I have booted several desktop linuxes, and yeah while only ubuntu mate has worked and another gnome one access wize, all my arch distros have booted and all you have had to do is hit enter.Vmware workstation is reasonably accessable becides I own a licence to workstation as I do a few other extras with it.Is virtual box even that accessible. In most arch installs you just hit enter and it will just do it.Arch installs do boot after a time themselves to.We shouldn't need to fiddle with menus before startup. Also when does speech actually come on.I know that there is sound in the vm as I have managed to get it to beep, so something is working. Also usually they autologin.I don't think you can blame the vmware software. It even works in popos. With the mate desktop boot, will it install a command line thingy to so I have espeak as well?I actually wander if instead of using manjaro itself if you shouldn't just use a talkingarch iso and shove your stuff on top of it.

Re: Corona Virus: is it the beginning of the end?

To be honest, thats one of my main fears to.I just hope this is actually worth it.I will for now accept the current situation, but I know a few things or facts.Firstly, yeah, no one is saying that it won't come back. While I think most of this country will accept a lockdown now, I doubt we will accept another if we power back up, and have to shut down again.I certainly will not.We get it right now as they are saying or we die.Fine, but we do all that and either more die than expected or they suddenly say we screwed up and have to lock down again, then well I have a life.If the government are being hard on us then I will be hard back.Next, even with all those so called echonomic packages, there are several scenarios that seems not to have been conciddered.Everyone hopes things will tail off and then we will have a new normal. No one actually realises that the new normal will probably be a perminant lockdown of sorts.Without tourism and travel, everyone will be stuck in their own country of origin. With all the public transport stopped and lets face it who knows if that ever will start everyone will be stuck at home. With the banning of all plastic bags and now guns due to the terror attacks in christchurch, defence for ourselves is surely down a lot.Having listened and watched many apocolipse movies and played the games, this is what ahppens in all of them. While the zombies may not be coming, and maybe not the bombs, in everything there is a limit.I know that the world can't stay frozen for to long.Europe and the us are big places so its going to take a long time for them to die back to a managable space due to land mass as is australia.Borders will continue to remain closed for ages which as I said before means no holidays at all.I do see an aunt I have so I can walk in an isolated bit of bush I know of and maybe I can go to the shops with my mum and walk with my parents.I have a home gym and enough stuff to do.I just hope everyone gets it right. Also as I said before there is an limit about how the world can stay frozen like this.No one has really mentioned this on radio till basically a day before shutdown. It also seems that searching for a vaxine seems to be on hold till lockdown exit.So that potentially means that we could just stay in lockdown. One assumes the government aint sitting on its ass and smoking weed but we have no idea of knowing. The official line is that we will survive lockdown and get through this then we will recover and things will be at a new normal. Not many appreciate this but a new normal will involve, less businesses, low or no echonomy, low to none education, no jobs, a shut down government probably, in some places no rights. Our world is quite fragile as it is.And someone will be nuking someone else.We havn't had a year yet and allready we are at the apocoliptic levels that are a backdrop to most apocolipse movies, dramas and games. We probably won't see the bombs and zombies for another 2 months or so.These movies and such have been in the back of my mind and I've always wandered what it would be like to go to the next world, or to survive. But there is no glory in any of this. This may be a war of sorts but in this case it is doubtfull that many of us will see some action unless we are hit by a stray shell that is.Like most I'd like to help in this war, but all I can do is subscribe to the update broadcasts like many civilians did during the last war and hope essentials like food, power, etc don't shut down.We will aparently have enough to live on though my old man has stocked several stews and tinned things for when it gets really bad.I guess a difference to this war to the others is that we will have supplies and food at all times that we can buy, the echonomy is being supported as much as  humanly possible at least in new zealand and we do have our cars,  our communications and water and power.Oh and we don't have air raids, yet.I just hope it works. This is after all an election year,  as it is in the us.

Re: Manjaro architect talking released! Better alternative to jenux

Well stasp, just tested your linux in my vm.You really need to get the startup of your vm working so we don't have to press all sorts to get working.I waited for a couple minutes, hit down arrow twice, hit enter, then typed in my user and password you gave, then hit enter then typed in setup.Bar a lot of beeping after a bit, not speech. You should have the system beep once its ready to be used or is at the boot prompt. Most oses have a prompt you either type a comand into like for example braille for displays, and or something but then if you hit enter you should autologin and speech should then start.I can't even start this system.

Well, I think in new zealand we are trying to stay ahead of the virus.Europe and the us have a lot of catching up to do and so does australia. No travel for me and well a few more have to stay home. For me being a contract beta tester, 99.9% of my work is done online or at home.True there are times I have to take a taxi to work but I hate doing so and only do it because pay is worth it.Right now I can go to a cafe or other eatery, but that could mean I couldn't do that.Mind you as far as locking down goes, it would probably be a good thing if that actually happened.I have way to many destractions in my life.I have a list of tasks longer than the transcyberian. They include, finnishing a really boring flight sim pack.Learning a new smart tv and an old iphone I got for cheap.Getting my podcast back underway.Catching up with some shows.Reading several technical, audio and text ebooks. And if I finnish all that, there is undead assault to play, getting back into swamp, and listening to some other audio dramas. If I finnish that, I have a few adult online novels I need to get through. And if thats all said and done, I can continue to test and eventually build a linux vm.And if by some miracle I will be finnished with that,I also have zoom, unigram and discord to learn. And well if by then I am done and its not done yet then I'll be bored. However I think we would need 10 years of isolation before I am even half way through my long life tasks. And even if I get that done there is always my piano which I havn't played in 10 years.

Re: making websites, is it really that easy?

Its actually not that bad.You will need a hosting previder that will host a site. You shouldn't use a plain vps for this you want a site.A lot of sites have 1 click installers for this.Ok, as long as you have c panel then you should be ok.However apart from this your webhost should support php 7.1 or higher 7.2 is recommended and 7.4 is the latest. You will need mysql there to.Anyway your webhost should have these installed. You will need a database entry for that wordpress site. You need to edit wp-config.php, put that stuff in there and then you can just upload the wordpress stuff via ftp to your site and it will run.You need to run wp-install.php from wp-admin and then its easy. However you do then need to secure it and add plugins and the like.If you don't know what to do really you should start with wordpress.com, I use m.wordpress.com to write my blog posts though.Wordpress is quite accessible I should know because I am on the wordpress testing team though havn't had much work for a while.Gutenburg has been a sore point for the accessibility team though. We had to fight to get its writers not to publish it in the first place. Its supposed to be a lot better but classic editor is still a prefered option for me.However for those that don't mind it and its block interface and some of the users do, like liam erven then its ok.I personally never got the hang of it and I am a tester. But yeah wordpress has had a few issues and does have some issues of late.

Re: Thinking about trying pop OS in a VM

Well deven, you had the same issue with slint? The only linux distro that even starts right is ubuntu mate.Everything I tried I can't even get to start.Genux is ok but it pulls its code off the net, and the last time I tried the install script had so much errors with it I just didn't do much about it.Fedora.The last fedora and speakup talking image was v7 I think and its up to 12 or is it 14?I guess pure debian could be an option but its a wapping4 dvds or is it higher? If you install everything it could be over 100gb in size, its huge.As for slint.Yeah, if I could only get it not to fall over with speech during install that actually would be something, it actually sounds like a super os.The other stuff that sounded good was sonar, however in order for any arch distro to run nice we would need.1.  an easier way to partition disks and boot things.Yeah you can code it from the command line but even though I semi know what I am doing say with something like hyperbola or parabola with open rc its a monster of hitting this and that. The chance to totally fuck up is pritty much certain especially because I have to read everything from a website.Goodness knows how one of us is supposed to install arch on a live system.Grml does have an installer but its utterly graphical in nature. The only os that look good on paper is lindows /linspire and react os.But react os has never got stable and its not worth trying to get it to even run.Linspire is in the unknown basket because lindows was so close to microsoft windows microsoft sued them for trademark use.The program switched names to linspire but ended up not that good of a system anyway.Right now especially for the beginner, I'd try ubuntu mate as a base os which will give you basic terminal support on gnome 2 and a desktop with speech. Its software centre is a bit crappy accessibility wize but it will work.At any rate you can muck about with it to your heart's desire. However I'd really like a distribution for blind people that had gnome mate, cininin or other desktop that was accessible.A shell like bash again accessible.Espeakup fenria or whatever loaded, to, grub as boot, system de since everyone is used to that. Then firefox/ thunderbird/ libre office, frots agility and tads and hugo and other in interpretors a reasonable music and chip player, midi and soundfont synth and a player for midis, stuff like python, something like apt-get for its manager, startup, shutdown and other desktop sounds and everything from the alt win s etc just working. It sounds like the easiest way to handle this would be to take a stable thing like ubuntu mate and experiment on that.On here somewhere a user is trying to cobble together a version of sonar.Aparently mandriva have kept the sonar code about in bits and some kind locked in hacker seems to know what he is doing so I wish him luck. The main reason why my blindvms cast stopped running vms is that none of the distros other than ubuntu mate will respond to alt windows and s and have speech.I can't get 99.9% of linux distros to work.I'd like to test other os types and maybe I will, but its no point podcasting windows as all of use it.With dosbox the only reason I would use xp now is for true 32 bit apps or 16 bit apps and I have 3 of those 4 if you count my old mobile phone setup software.Thats not worth justifying using space for an xp vm I may hardly use even though I technically do have an xp disk and code floating about.

Re: Thinking about trying pop OS in a VM

Well, don't fucking bother trying it.I just did, was going to do a podcast on it to.So basically, you start it up.Boom its up well after 5 minutes or so.Speech comes on as expected.Firstly you will be in a listbox which shows you languages to choose, select what you want or highlight it should be english.Next set your country and then keyboard language as close to you as you can.Select the disk to partition or just erase the disk.hit next eventually you will get an install button.hit tab then hit space on the disk, its unlabeled but it will press and hit the next button or erase button.Don't bother with encription step for now. Finally hit install and it will go on and on for about 10 minutes. When it says reboot, reboot and hit that button. It starts, wait for a few minutes, and toggle speech on.And boom you are at the account screen.Link to your account there are choices, I used just google.Hit next. You will be in the form for the email except it doesn't speak.type it in slowly and hit next. You will be in the password box which will also not tell you you are there.repeat the same as the previous form.Hit next.you will enter on a page to allow or not, you will have to shift tab to allow because it will get stuck on the more info button. Then wait for 30 minutes while the unresponsive script runs.Eventually you will get an option to create your account.Do that, and your password.Hit start using popos and you're done.Literally you are done. The system uses gnome 3 as de as your desktop. It must be a custom or something because I couldn't even get a menu to pop up.bashing the keys, well nothing gives feadback. So yeah its gnome3.Completely inaccessible and it looks like its even worse now. Before in zorinos it was just settings. Now its the entire desktop completely. In short, this os aint worth much unless you can get a sightling to help you to change the desktop to mate. You can't get it configured with gnome2 or mate and gnom3 just isn't user friendly.Forms do not read and the web brouser is not even accessible.I could have selected the wrong keyboard but even so it was an australian language and it should all have worked.Even so, its not worth your time.system76 also lags to much for my liking. This system seems to be a customised os for system76 with customised everything for system76 hardware. If I got a system76 system the first thing I'd do would to reformat and either install ubuntu mate or windows 10 on it.Or request it came with mate.In its current state its not even worth my time podcasting about it.Oh and after doodling with that its wasted pritty much my entire night working with it to.Its a real shame that gnome3 is the way it is.Really makes me wander about linux accessibility when gnome2 is really the only choice for us blinks. After all the bluster, maybe the best way forward is windows 10, 7 or xp.Mate is nice as long as it stays about. Now if you can understand it and get it started ciniman seems a good desktop to maybe. So is lfce lxde and lxqt but I never played with either of these.Unity seems ok to.It does say on the support site that this is a customised gnome desktop though and well it shows.Thank god this was a vm and not an actual install.Though at least the os has lived up to its reputation.I popped it on and quickly popped it off again. Its a pitty, since the os is really quick.
