@idiot I'm afraid I tried that, Voiceover read the text of the button but I just can't interact with any of the ap functions at all. I've tried restarting voicever and using the ap switcher and no go with either unfortunately. I have heard v13 of Ios causes issues with vo so I am hoping that is the problem.

Cambridge. are really a law unto themselves. I looked at going there, but was totally put off by the fact that you never actually get any public teaching, just one session with a tutor per week, no lectures, no tutorials with other people, and since the main reason to go to somewhere like Cambridge is the teaching that's nuts! Also, exam Also, no idea what they're about with exams and using my laptop, I used mine all through school and uni and yes it had a spellcheck, but so long as I didn't use it it was fine.

Re: Monthly chat September 2019

Hi,Yesterday was absolutely shitty for me.I did an english exam at an institue for such things. The problem was that the documents had to be sent from Cambridge. They sent the braille documents over with no problem, but the Problem was that we requested the uncontracted Braille Version and they sent the contracted one (I can't read english short Braille). Also, some files were ven missing, so I had to do my best not to flip out.First, I'm asking myself why they can't simply send the test over in a word file, would be less troublesome for me and probabbly cheaper for them.Second, they probably don't even have People there that can read Braille, otherwise this whole shit would probabbly not have happened.Another Thing is that some rules of those guys (Cambridge) are simply ridicoulus: for example, I had to turn off all spellchecking etc. Features on my Laptop (which they were reluctant to allow, along with my other Equipment) even though I assured them that I couldn't even see what was underlined as wrong by the System.Hope everyone has a nice day.Edit: Sorry for the rant, this was just necessary.

@Dan C thanks for the good wishes.@Julian it was a rather facetious way of saying that my lady has a tumour and while the operation she unexpectedly had earlier this week cut out %95 of it, there is still some left. They were just going to do a biopsy, that is go in, take a bit of the tumour down to the lab to have a look at how it looks, but the surgeon did say it might be possible to have a go at cutting it out, which would obviously be a good thing. Unfortunately as I said they didn't get all of it, and so we had to stay in hospital for a couple of days both so my lady could recover somewhat (though she's still extremely unwell), and aalso to have an MRI scan to determine what if anything to do next. We're waiting for the results of that. that's why at the moment I'm playing a lot of cosmic rage, since generally its a less high tention game than some and its also possible to play more casually (I've got a volcano harvester going at the moment). I also am having war with Apple over my Iphone. It turned out the reason the phone locked was because now you need two email addresses to unlock one Iphone if the password needs changing, assuming you don't remember security questions which you set 8 years before. I did persuade apple to actually send the recovery email to my lady's address, and the password change was comapratively easy. On the other hand for the last few days my Iphone is doing this bloody annoying thing where I can't focus properly on aps, everything from audio wizards to game world. I am guessing this is the dreaded Ios 13 bug and I really hope its fixed soon since effectively it makes my Phone almost unusable for nearly anything, actually I've considered starting a topic in offtopic room about it since my lady would like me to setup whatsap, which also means fixing her password and likely another phone call to apple, but there's no point trying that if we can't actually use the damn thing. actually apple's security here is bloody ridiculous! not google, nor even PPaypal is this nuts! hell the first drone I spoke to at Apple sent me a text code, then complained when I got it wrong since I read him the number the code came from not the text, even though I played the code at him down the phone. As I said, the fact that Paypal, who actually link to the bank aren't this insane with security really makes apple look like bureaucratic arse holes, probably because they are! Other than that as I said, not much to report, things are pretty stressful at the moment for obvious reasons so I hope people are having a better time of it.

@Julian that sounds bonkers, in my final school ball everything was organised by the school, even a jaz band to play, people just had to turn up dressed appropriately. Thanks for the good wishes about my lady. I'll admit the last couple of days have been stressful, since once we turned up at hospital they'd decided not just to do the biopsy, but play that old arcade classic: Tumour chop. Unfortunately, after quite  the usual waits for surgery and hanging around it turned out they got a score of %95, which is good, but not perfect, which meant not only hanging around in hospital for a couple of days, but waiting for an MRI and a conflab between various medical specialists about what happens next. I will say for all the aweful stuff you hear about the National Health service these days, everyone has been lovely, they got us a private room to ourselves, gave me a place to stay even though I wasn't a patient,  and I stayed with my lady pretty constantly, though health service coffee is truly terrible .Also I was really glad of Reever, since yee gods she learned the hospital quickly. Its the one where my mum works so getting basic geography was easy, but Reever was pretty amazing for how quickly she got where everything was.annoyingly I didn't have my laptop, and even more annoyingly my Iphone has been playing silly buggers with focusing on aps and constantly irritating me about my apple ID needing unlocking even though my Apple ID has been fine. I'm thinking this is probably the dreaded IoS thirteen since I forgot to disable automatic updates and hopefully will sort itself out soon. Still it was annoying not to be able to play stuff, especially since as my lady loves word games we've been cooperating on word building which has been a nice distraction.we're now back but my lady's still not exactly well, so intermitantly I need to dash off and do things, though at least I can get back to cosmic rage at this point which will b nice, since needless to say we're both a bit freaked right now. Hope everyone else is having a slightly better time at the second.

Thinking of a Motto, thinking of what to Dance, selling tickets, organising one (or two, in our case) pre-party(ies), collecting sponsorship (that's one of the few ways we actually make Money), collecting gifts for a raffle at the ball, ... You get the pont. The laughable Thing is that the ball isn't even at the end of the School year, but more or less at the beginning of it.

@Aaron glad you liked the monologue, itt was fun to right. I need to sort out recording and my own mike actually since whilst my rowland recorder still works there are likely better ways out there,  audition video was recorded by the guy who runs the actor's workshop on his phone since it needed to be an actual video with acting performance, not just a recording. @Julian selling things at a ball? that seems nuts! at mine the entire point was it was at the end of school when you'd finished exams and was like a big last hurrah before you went off to uni. Well as people will gather from new releases I've restarted playing cosmic rage, which is fun, even if hunting was amazingly a pest, however Mrs. Dark has her biopsy today which will hopefully mean we know what is wrong and they can do something about it. for me in practical terms it means likely sitting in a hospital waiting room all day. Makes me wish I'd experimented with mudding on my Iphone, though I  also have plenty of other games  distract me and lots of charge time for my victor. Obviously though I can't say either of us is particularly looking forward to this.

Re: Monthly chat September 2019

@Julian ah yes, dancing. Thahnkfully when I finished school the American tradition of a formal "prom" (though in Britain that word means a road at the seaside), where you had to ask someone and go as a couple had not caught on. We had a final formal school ball, all in black tie which was nice, actually I bought a really awesome cream brocade jacket with brass buttons, there was a jaz band and people danced, but there wa s no need to formally ask someone or really learn any specific dancing, which I'm glad about. I've danced on stage before, but  I always feel a complete prat when I dance, which is why I've only done it in stage productions where its intended that I look amazingly silly.Speaking of on stage, I got to publically perform my monologue last night which was rather fun, I'm not sure about the venew since it was a monologue competition mostly about local tv which is less my thing (for a  the local area I'm in is pretty grotty and I'm much more a theatre than stage person anyway), but it was fun to perform something i'd written, and something very surreal and weird, (anyone who's interested in hearing it can check out the audition video I recorded in post ten).As to other news,  well a blind legend  a fun distraction, though as I talked about that in general game discussion I won't repeat myself, I now fancy playing through the vale and maybe getting back to my breed memorial monsters. I'm also playing crafting kingdom which is about what I want at the moment, something low key and relaxing. Things unfortunately have not been fun otherwise, Mrs. Dark has not been well. We had to go to hospital on Wednesday for her to have a cat scan. This would've been fine, accept instead of going to our local hospital  in Newark, (which is about five minutes by taxi), we were told to go to a different hospital (the one my mum works at), which would be about an hour's drive away and a good fourty quid taxi fair. So we went and stayed with my parents Tuesday night and went in with my mum on Wednesday morning as Wednesday was one of the week days she works, and sharing her taxi saved us cash. We got there only to be told that actually we should've gone to newark hospital, even though the woman giving us the appointment specifically made the point that we were to go elsewhere!I confess when the receptionist said "could you get to Newark?" I was rather annoyed, since the assumption that everyone in the world has a sodding car and can just casually drive elsewhere is bloody irritating!Fortunately, when we explained that no, we really couldn't, they rescheduled and were able to do the cat scan in the hospital we were at. I was a little worried we'd be waiting all day since they had an emergency patient but actually we were done surprisingly quickly. We now get a bit of time off, though my lady has an MRI tomorrow and needs to go back to said distant hospital next week for a full scale biopsy. Its quite literally a pain, especially with her not exactly being well anyway, but obviously we want to find out how bad things are and whether anything can actually be done about this. In keepingg with matters being quite stressful at the moment, I'm doing some rather light reading, Darkness at Sethanon by Ramond fiest. I wasn't crazy on the first two books of the riftwar series Reviews available here but there was enough positive in them to make me hope that Feist was likely to improve, indeed my lady has read later books in the series and said they're massively better, and thus far, even accepting some rather typical eighties fantasy tropes, Darkness is hopefully looking to be a better story, or at least one where the weaknesses of the writing, Thin characters and blatant borrowings from D&D can be overcome by the writing's strengths like the wonderfully epic battles and weird world. Actually I'm sort of wishing that we could get rid of midkemia and just have the whole series set on Kelowan, as Kelowan is much more interesting . Anyway hope everyone else is having a slightly better September than my lady and I are right now.

Welcome to my world . Well Steam finally decided to behave and I@m playing a blind legend, which is pretty  much just what I wanted at the second, a nice easy romp through a fantasy kingdom. I'll probably post more thoughts when I finish the game. In the mean time I've been furiously writing book reviews  doing some of the old Dr. Who bbv stories, these were what was done before big finish, and are very much like early bf, experimental and weird, albeit since they couldn't use the dr. who name they often have to fudge characters rather a lot, in some cases just writing the doctor under another name, in others writing characters who are sort of similar, actually I really like Colin Baker as the stranger, a transe temporal terrorist who had his memories removed.

@Dark, I really hope your lady gets well soon, best wishes to her.Things have gone incredibly well for me on one hand and incredibly bad on the other. I met an old friend a few months ago and we quickly realised that we're still inlove. We moved together and we're living the dream On the other hand, I finished my master's degree a while ago and I haven't managed to land a job even if I did my best towards achieving this. Lots of employers don't bother to respond, I have a feeling that they're checking me on social media and discovering that i'm blind before I actually have a chance to tell them. I haven't lost hope yet but I'm on the brink of it, I'm seriously considdering starting my own bussiness and writing a rude letter to all employers that haven't even considdered me. Talking about the weather, it's about 25 C over here during the day, a pleasant temperature. Things can go wild during winter overhere though, last year we had -20 C but it's okay for me, I preffer the cold days rather than the hot ones.

I'm so sorry to hear this. As everyone says, the best of luck to you both.Talking of fantasy novels:I've completed all eight Witcher novels two months ago and am very satisfied with the books. Great way to combine a gripping fantasy plot, with no clear bad and evil, and this satirical way in which fantasy tropes are handled. After that I've watched Let's Plays of Witcher 1 and 2 and am now watching Witcher 3. I can see why those games are considered masterpieces.

Just to be clear,  people are aware that the term bell end is  an incredibly rude one over here? It refers to the glans, that is the lower part of the penis. Its probably the male equivalent of calling a woman a cunt, and though the meaning is similar, is likely rather more offensive than just calling someone a dick. Not that people using offensive words is a problem, just make sure  you know what they mean, there was a hilarious simpsons episode where Homer managed to call everyone  Britain a bunch of "wankers" because  producers thought "wanker" meant idiot, without realising that over here "wanker" is a pretty offensive term, meaning someone who masturbates, and a waaay stronger insult than idiot.Btw, we also have fun when my lady speaks about her "fanny" since in the states "fanny"  as far as I understand is  a pretty childish term for bottom, where as here it's a rather unpleasant term  for a woman's vagina . Oh and then there is all the fun I've mentioned before on this forum with the term faggot, my lady did have great fun telling her sister on the phone that she'd had roast faggots for tea and really enjoyed them .@Dark eagle, the dresden files are fun, though I got rather sick of Dresden's wining and ridiculously silly attitude about women, and the way he kept acquiring powers. I viewed the books as fluffy light entertainment, but not more than that, and while I enjoyed reading them once and intend to read the next one if Butcher ever  writes it, I would probably go somewhere else for a serious series. spellmonger  is a series I'd like to try I think. At the moment I'm currently reading Lilith's brude by Octavia  butler, but this is a very dark, very serious and very compelling scifi with quite unique aliens and probably not for the faint of heart.Edit: Okay I've   sort of  avoided saying this, but it turns out no, my lady is not exactly well right now. Hopefully its something that is fixable, but there is a distinct possibility it isn't. Lets just say   it begins with c and rhymes with necromancer, so no, I'm not exactly feeling great at the second.

These people who are supposed to advise us, barely get payed!Honestly, this bull shit, you can do whatever you set your mind to mentality is going to ruin people's lives more than help.A guy has recently graduated from a Common Core school, told he can do anythnig he sets his mind to no matter what happens, so, believing this, he goes to colege. But our school system doesn't prepare in the slightest for things like colege, much less real life!So he goes to colege, can't cope with the amount of work and all of the real life shit, and kills himself. This is the big flaw with our damn school system, and also why we're 79th in edjicational levels in the hole world! Germany, Italy, The United Kingdom, and Mexico are ahead of us!Also, about 90 percent of kids in school in the United States would fail horribly in the military, purely due to they're physical conditions, or just because they're too damn soft! Now, it's not like having a monumentally sized military is nessisary, right now, but if we were forced into drafting for a war, we would be absolutely fucked!*End Rant.Sorry, I just got anoyed at this school system and the people in my country.I do this some times haha.

@Dark:I was not complaining that it was getting cold here, I was saying that considering the time, and my 19 years of experience of living in this country, (I am 20 years old currently,) it is not as cold as it can get. Also, the constant raining and the temperature refusing to go down than its current level creates a humid environment.Since everyone is chiming with their recommendation of books, I would also like to talk about it as well.I am still reading the dresden files, (Currently on the fifth book.) another series I am about to start is spellmonger. most of my book recommendation comes from TV tropes, spellmongers came from there as well. Also I am watching the anime called a certain magical index, let's just say that my inner well hidden sadist is very amused.@Redfox:since you are learning programming, I assume that you may want to build your career in that field, right? If I am correct, did you faced same suggestions as I do? mainly people telling you to find something else to do, there is too much competition in the software development field (something which I won't deny,) etc, etc?Or perhaps I am just keep running into these sorts of people all the time.

Re: Monthly chat September 2019

Thanks for the good wishes for my lady, I'll say at this point we're hoping its something relatively easy to fix, but the potential is there for it not to be, and we're both rather worried at the second. on the plus side I got a note from the Actor's workshop that they've put the monlogue I wrote and performed last week up on youtube. This can be seen here, it was written and performed by me, and features a guy having a very fraught phone call, other than that the context should be self explanetory, hopefully it'll provide a minute or two of entertainment.I'm also now downloading a blind legend (once I got steam to cooperate), which should hopefully be fun on pc and provide some needed destraction. I know the game is supposedly easy, but hay that might be what I need right nnow.@turtlepower, interesting you mention dark is rising, that's a series I grew up with and very much enjoy, plus I love Susan cooper's slightly more adult fantasy seaward. If you like that I can also recommend the weirdstone of brisingamen by alan Garner which is in a similar vane and just as beautifully written. @Redfox, I read the artimis fowl books, or at least the first five I think a few years ago. They were fun for the big explosions, action and weird world, but weren't anything more than fluff, since the characters were fairly thin and the description not up to much, indeed apparently Colfer is also an illustrator and I suspect a large part of the writing in those books is supposed to be covered by the illustrations.I've not read ender's game yet, its one of these things I do mean to try me being something of a fan of classic sf. As I've said before, I make writing book reviews a serious thing, and you can find them [url="" />https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwfMrz- … e=youtu.be@Redfox,  it depends upon what you fancy. I can think of several authors like David gemmell and douglas hill who are good for action, but if you want to branche out to something a little more substantial, you might want to try Tad williams, in particular his otherland series which has great escapes, some bloody evil characters and a deeply complex plot, as well as some very unique takes on online environments. If your looking to move on to something a bit more complex, one of my favourite sf books of all time is Gateway by Frederik Pohl. The premise is simple, imagine an overcrowded, over populated earth with colonies barely surviving on the moon, mars and venus. Then imagine someone discovers an asteroid full of alien faster than light spaceships, left by a race millions of years old who also seemm to have pushed along human evolution. only one problem, nobody  knows how those ships work or can really steer them. The best people can do is set a preset control, get in and push go. For the poor suckers who do this, this could mean ending up near some exploitable alien tech which could make them instant billionaires, on the down side, a lot has changed in a few million years, and they could wind up two close to the surface of a star, on a planet of poisonous plants, or still worse, not come back at all. Gateway is one man's story, and catptures the spirit of this amazingly well. Its part of a series, but is also a complete story in itself, indeed while the second book is as good, and the ending to the series is a rather nice one, books 3 and 4 did get a bit  too bogged down for my liking, as well as killing a lot of the mystery.

Sorry to hear that things are crappy for you at the second, Dark. Hopefully whatever is going on health-wise for Mrs. Dark will pass soon, and not be too serious.I never got into the Artemis Fowl books, but then again I tried to read them when I was maybe 11, and found the characters so snooty and unrelatable that I quickly gave up. Perhaps I'd get more out of them as an adult. Around the same time I picked up the first book in that series, though, I read The Dark is Rising series, which I got far more enjoyment out of. I've read them several times since then, and I'd say they're definitely some of my favorites in the fantasy genre.

Do any of you have suggestions? For frame of reference, I finished the Red Pyramid, Kane Chronicles, in about 2 days, during school. @Dark:Well your information proves why exactly Britain has a reputation of crazy weather in popular culture. also, I hope your lady gets well soon.Actually, coming back to the weather topic, here in India, by this point there will be at least some coldness. yet, despite constant raining practically everyday, the temperature continues to be stubborn, refusing to go down from 23 degrees, or higher than 28.Resulting in a miserable weather which won't give you comfort in cold, or blistering heat, or rain, or everything in between.Aside from that, my arguments continue with my family. yesterday my mother told me so certainly that I would do exactly as she has predicted... that for a moment I thought that she has just seen the future. Then I went berserk inside my mind, and decided that entire day trolling her was in order. It  is specially annoying because each time my mother comes back from meeting with relatives, she always spouts these prediction.and they always threaten programming, something which I greatly enjoy.

Hope things work out as well for you as they did for me.Actually, not to contradict the above statement,  but things have not been going great at the moment, mostly because my lady really is not physically very well at the present time, we're waiting to see exactly how "not very well" precisely and will hopefully know next Thursday, but if people are wondering why I haven't been bouncing around the forum, with my usual enthusiasm that is the reason.Actually my gaming has been way off at the moment, I'm having a far harder times with games like sequence storm and even crazy party than I should be, and I don't find my concentration is going well for muds or the like. I've considered picking up a blind legend now I have steam running (I coul never work out the swiping turning system on Ios), since an easy going, immersive audio adventure without killer difficulty  might be just what I need at the second. On the plus side, last night I did  write  a ten thousand word short story in the space of eight solid hours! its one of those moments writers talk about when you get an idea and it just wont' leave you alone, hopefully I'll be able to do something with it once its been  redrafted and gone through with a fine tooth comb about 30 times. I've also been reading stephen King (see  topic for thoughts), plus yesterday evening with my parents and my brother and his wife we went to a pretty awesome concert. Its a rather nice  modern thing orchestras are doing these days, where they show a classic film  with the music removed, and the orchestra provide a full live score whilst  dialogue and sound plays, with the film showing. I've seen  Jurassic park, starwars a new hope, and Empire  strikes back don that way in the past, last night it was the turn of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone. While its not my favourite of the potter filmes (far too shiny and happy), it worked really well in concert, probably better than Jurassic park, since so much of the incidental music is melodic on its own. its also nice that at those sorts of events audience participation is encouraged, so people were asked to cheer their favourite characters, and their houses, and boo the villains. I was   especially amused when my brother, a proud, card carrying, tie wearing slitherin (though more in the sense of coniving, game playing, breaking rules and doing what is possible to get his way than in snooty pure blood arrogance), greeted dumbledor's announcement that Slitherin won the house cup with a cheer (the only person cheering at that point in the entire concert hall). when Dumbeldor then however said "but we have to take recent events into consideration" My brother responded with a quick "booo! . I just confined myself to cheering favourites, including giving a round of applause for the misunderstood git, Severus snape .Hope everyone else is having a good  September so far, btw where the hell did the summer go? At risk of being a very stereotypical   Englishman and talking about the weather,  we had one really amazingly hot week at the end of July, then its been  getting successively duller, to the point that our heating actually activated. its as if we got all the summer in one week this year, rather than spread out, which is bonkers!

Re: Monthly chat September 2019

I fucking love the little exam. It lets me actually put some of the random shit I know to some use.I wrote a long winded account of something I was doing over the week end but not sure if I'm going to post that thing here. I was at a world music and dance  festival. It was not quite what I expected but I am quite glad I went, for a couple of reasons.

Re: Monthly chat September 2019

I haven't posted in one of these for awhile, so here goes.Things have actually been going extremely well for me lately, which still feels weird to say, given the fact that I was more or less in a constant slump for the past 3 years or so. A lot of that had to do with me believing I was unworthy of having friends due to a lot of stuff that was going on at that time, so I cut myself off from most people and didn't really approach anyone. This, in addition to the fact I've always been an introvert and am generally slow to trust others, has made what's going on now all the more unexpected.I've met someone amazing, someone whose company I genuinely enjoy, and we almost immediately fell into the type of friendship, though we both think it could very well be something more, where we can spend hours at a time talking, and we feel like we've known each other for a long time. At this point, I couldn't be happier with that situation, and we're working out the details of meeting in person soon as well, something that I usually wouldn't take lightly. I grew up in the internet is a monstrous scary thing age where everybody you met in an AOL chat room was supposedly a pedophile, and that kind of conditioning tends to stick with you even though you know it was mostly overblown, and anyway things are different nowadays, what with people hooking up on Tinder all the time and what not.So, needless to say, even though there are actually a couple of stressful things going on at the moment that I'm trying to deal with, including supposedly being overpaid a ridiculous amount of money by SSI, I feel better and more at peace than I have in ages. Gaming wise, I'm still playing lots of Crazy Party, though I'm thinking about tackling something a bit more complex like Sequence Storm. Audio Wizards is also out, though seeing as how my birthday is this month, I may wait to see if I receive an Itunes gift card as I sometimes do before taking the plunge with that one. I've heard good things about it, though, so we'll have to see. I've also been playing some of the games on the playroom, namely a lot of Quiz party, which is super enjoyable even though you can end up getting questions you've already seen at times. The Little Exam is also a fun game, especially if you deliberately write ridiculous things for answers when you can't think of anything legitimate for one of the categories.

Monthly chat September 2019

2019-09-01 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Off-topic room : Dark via Audiogames-reflector

Monthly chat September 2019

Well  its the first of the month again, so time for another monthly chat topic. As usual  standard rules apply, chat about anything you like in your life up to and including rabid mutant space elephants, -assuming you have rabid mutant space elephants in your life, and if you do, please let me know, since as many people should know about the rabid mutant space elephant conspiracy as possible. Anyway, I'm afraid things are sort of crappy at the moment owing to my lady not feeling well, me being worried, and my worry meaning I'm not getting much else done, including gaming (I'm doing amazingly badly at sequence storm today). She's going for a hospital appointment  tomorrow which should hopefully clear at least a few things up and let us know where we are. Mean while  not much else to report sadly other than my usual review writing and reading, though hopefully i should be recording a monologue this week as there's a local monologue competition, albeit since it sounds the competition is more to do with tv than actually performing your monologue I don't know how interested I am as tv acting is not really something I see myself doing. Anyway, hope everyone else is having a slightly less dire time than I am at the second.
