You can delete this from the file system, then click the projects on the Start
Page and they'll go away from the Recent Projects list that appears when you
first launch.

If you want to remove them from the Recent Projects list but don't want to dump
them, just move the related files from both the Projects and WebSites folders
to another folder, then click the project name in the list on the Start Page.
When VS doesn't find the project files, it removes the entry from the Recent
Projects list.

Hope this helps.

 Ok in reality I'm griping about Visual Studio (2005 Professional to be
specific).

 I'm going through the "How do I ..." tutorials. So far I have done three and
have had trouble with two of them. One, where the instructions where wrong, and
a second, where something was wrong with my system configuration, have not
developed a sense of love within by breast.

 Anyway, through all this I have created some "projects" that I do not want.
They are stored in an undesirable place and I would like to remove them from my
work space. I can't. I look up the instructions in the help and I get these.

 Deleting
 You can delete a project permanently, but not by using Visual Studio. You need
to remove any references to the project you want to delete from solutions you
have in Visual Studio, and then use Windows Explorer to delete the associated
files from storage permanently.

 To permanently delete a project
 1) In Solution Explorer, select the project you want to delete from the
solution.
 2) On the Edit menu, select Remove.
 3) In Windows Explorer, locate and select the files associated with the
project you want to delete.
 4) On the File menu, select Delete.

 But this does not work. There is no Remove command in the Edit menu. So what
am I supposed to do?

what does "dont seem to look quite right for google/yahoo maps" mean? what are
"proper coordinates"?

if you mean the data isn't aligning, could be several reasons.
- i think google maps uses WGS84 as their datum, no idea what that db uses (it
doesn't appear to be defined anywhere i can see, which is a BAD thing actually)
but if it's not the same as google then stuff will look displaced. for example
there's about a 600 meter difference between coords using WGS84 & the datum we
used to use around here (indian everest 1975), which is a freaking huge
difference if you're trying to drop mortar rounds on something.
- could be as simple as google & that database using different concepts of
"city
center"
- accuracy of the original data, if the database they used to geocode those
locations didn't have good resolution, stuff could be off. for example, if you
zoom out completely in google maps & try to drop a marker on say new york city
(NYC) & then zoom in, you would more often than not find your marker wasn't
anywhere near NYC.

Has anyone tried "globixdata.com"'s $158 world cities database?

http://www.globixdata.com/pop.cfm?db=world&v1=l&v2=s&v3=a&pricing=99

It seems like it provides a decent database of world cities and their Lat /
Long. points.

Also, their lat/long data (See sample values) dont seem to look quite right for
google/yahoo maps. Do you know how to convert them to the proper coordinates?

Basically, I'm trying to take any unpredictable global city and find geocoding
data for it.

Thanks

Use word, "save as html", clean it up, export it.

That's usually the answer, but not very helpful if you need to do it on a
server.

Since it's just plain text, it should be pretty easy to write a parser, at
least
a basic one. There is a good book on RTF, it's pretty much the only one
out there, can't remember the name. The first couple of chapters are
available
on the web, and would get you through the basic parsing of an RTF.

Don't know of any utils off hand, but if you find one, holler- I rather like
RTF
for some reason.

RE: OT: accesskey conundrum

2006-06-07 Thread Sandra Clark
There are a myriad of problems with access keys. The most important being
that with the exception of about 3 or 4 combinations, that using access keys
ends up conflicting with screen reader key combinations and makes them
useless. Even though WAI says to use them, the reality is that they
actually make an application or form less accessible to the people who would
benefit from them the most.

Better rule of thumb is to use fieldsets to group your fields into related
sets.

Re: About CFC Path

2006-06-07 Thread James Holmes
You'll most likely have to ask for a mapping or custom tag path.

If you do, map a directory named after your account. This means that
you can use a unique name in your path when creating the CFCs and
you'll never get files belonging to someone else.

An example; your site is in /web/myaccount/htdocs/ (www.mysite.com)

you have them map /web/myaccount/htdocs/myaccount/ to /myaccount

Thus when you cfobject a cfc, you specify "myaccount.MyCFC" and you
are sure you got the right CFC.

ColdFusion MX7 and the Report Builder

Hello All,

I’m playing around with ColdFusion MX7 and it's Report Builder (very neat)
what a time saver for reporting. I was wondering if anyone has been able to get
horizontal bar charts working that span more than 1 page.

If not do you know if you can write a cfreport and call a cfr file and make
them both go to 1 PDF somehow?

Re: Reopening timed out cfftp connection ..

2006-06-07 Thread Denny Valliant
> It just feels like a defeat, if you know what I mean ;)
>

Valid feelings, I shared them for a bit, but with all the blogs out
there of how to leverage java from within CF, that's kinda a moot
point now(fer me). Nothing stops me from utilizing the underlying
code, which is really a bunch of quite powerful java APIs or
whatnot.
  Well, it's not that easy, I guess, but I was able to grab
some code for javamail off the net, and get SSL enabled IMAP
going pretty quick, for example. ^JasperReports was a
challenge, but mostly because of my lack of knowledge. With
a little help from Rick, I got it going tho (thanks Root!).

 I guess it's sorta like the analogy of using assembler for
some stuff, even tho most the app is visual basic. Makes for
a powerful combination. If you're doing heavy duty stuff, you
want to use the underlying java code, plain and simple.

Ties into the framework thread too, that analogy... probably
some name for that theory or whatever - "The Kauffman factor".
Heh. Bet there is...

But whatever- the main thing is you can do most of the stuff
just fine, just kinda slower than you can if you do some lower
lever stuff yourself.

Try some java FTP code instead of relying on CF itself. That
way you retain the nifty-ness of "run anywhere" *g*, and easy
server transference, or whatnot.

The Livedocs are super help for most of this stuff, that is a
really good documentation methodology. Really good. wiki-ish.
Yummy! Many Thanks to all who've added to 'em!!

But I've been able to do just about anything I've wanted to with
CF (sometimes I add some jars to the install, but still ;). If it
were free I'd use it for personal stuff, fer sure.

Yay Java! O.o

Re: Report Writer

2006-06-07 Thread Denny Valliant
I don't know why you're getting that error... have you maybe added
^JasperReports to your CF install? There is already an older version
of it included with CF, so it will break the built-in one if you just add
it.
   You can rename and repackage jasperreports, if you want to go
the iReport route. There's only two or so other jars you need.
I'm running that setup locally, seems ok so far.

I've been meaning to try loading a jasperdesign report with a
vanilla install of CF, as I'd suspect it's doable... there's been a good
bit of devel with both iReport and ^JasperReports, addition of
crosstabs and such (RTF generation!), so you'd probably want to
use a old version of iReports, if you want to try using the version
that comes with CF (or make reports without using any of the newer
features, maybe).

Re: error no ntvinv in java.library.path

2006-06-07 Thread Troy Simpson
I figured out my problem. Here is the answer.

The error was caused by the fact that JRun/ColdFUsion could not find
the ntvinv.dll in java.library.path. ntvinv.dll is part of the
ColdFusion.war file for J2EE setups.

The problem was caused when I created a custom jvm.config file for my
JRun/ColdFusion instance and the java.library.path was set
incorrectly. In the jvm.config file, I set the java.library.path as:

java.library.path={jrun.server.home}/cfusion-ear/cfusion-war/WEB-INF/cfusion/lib,{jrun.server.home}/cfusion-ear/cfusion-war/WEB-INF/cfusion/jintegra/bin,{jrun.server.home}/cfusion-ear/cfusion-war/WEB-INF/cfusion/jintegra/bin/international

Take note of the {jrun.server.home}

When I ran the following code in a cfm template it shows that
jrun.server.home as:
d:/servers/jrun03

sys = createobject("java", "java.lang.System");
// Set a system property
// sys.setProperty('myProperty', 'myPropertyValue');
// Assign local variable to properties structure
props = sys.properties;

So I figured I could use that value in the jvm.config file. But
NOOOooo! It appears to not work that way.

JRun was not picking it up in the jvm.config file and my
java.library.path was showing up with the value of {java.server.home}
missing like this:
java.library.path=/cfusion-ear/cfusion-war/WEB-INF/cfusion/lib,/cfusion-ear/cfusion-war/WEB-INF/cfusion/jintegra/bin,/cfusion-ear/cfusion-war/WEB-INF/cfusion/jintegra/bin/international

So I had to type in the complete path in the java.library.path in the
jvm.config file like this:

java.library.path={xjrun.server.home}/cfusion-ear/cfusion-war/WEB-INF/cfusion/lib,{xjrun.server.home}/cfusion-ear/cfusion-war/WEB-INF/cfusion/jintegra/bin,{xjrun.server.home}/cfusion-ear/cfusion-war/WEB-INF/cfusion/jintegra/bin/international,

There some food for thought.

Enjoy,
Troy Simpson

Yeah, I know what you mean. But I've heard of other limitations in
ColdFusion as well, things like the cfmail tag. As far as I know, the
documentation doesn't say "Don't use cfmail or cfftp for problems of x
size", but you find that out anyway. I think cfmail and probably cfftp
were intended to be quick and dirty small job solutions, not really
built to handle huge batch jobs.

Thanks all for your valuable contributions :)

I guess the common opinion of you guys would be to do the uploads with a
script. For the record: I'm on a Linux box, so the scripting could be done.

It just feels like a defeat, if you know what I mean ;) I just can't get
it to work with the offered standard posibilities of ColdFusion. It
feels like ColdFusion just doesn't do what it promises, and leaves me
with an unworkable script.

If I would want to use connection-pooling with a customized
batch/bash-script, I'm left behind with a problem of a whole other
magnitude I guess (I haven't looked into that, but keeping a FTP
connection opened while the has finished just looks
'interesting').

Hmm .. I'll have to think about this. Maybe the quick-and-dirty way
would indeed be to open a new connection with a different name, or
creating new connections for every separate transaction.

Re: anybody a cartweaver user?

2006-06-07 Thread dave
k, here we go

 1) Is there a way to import an existing product database of products
that my client already has into CartWeaver? I would assume that I'd
have to export the DB into some kind of CSV file, then import it into
the DB that CW supplies, but is there some kind of documented format?
Or do I have to roll my own?

No, roll away

2) Does the cart automatically use some kind of shopper account process
where repeat customers can just log in and have their info stored in the
DB somewhere to prevent them from having to supply this info every time?

Yes, they register and can log back in, that part is actually nice.

3) Is there a Gift Certificate module (or already built-in) where they
could buy GC's? I already know the pitfalls and difficulties inherent
in this, but some carts have figured it out (like CfWebStore).

Not built in but you can buy a module: http://www.datapacks.com

4) Is there a way to select a group of products and put them on sale
without having to go in and change the individual product prices themselves?

Not built in but you can buy a module: http://www.datapacks.com

5) Is there a real-time shipping module (ie; UPS, USPS, etc) available?
 From what I've read, this is a no, but no doesn't always mean no. At
least in this case.

Not built in but you can buy a module: http://www.datapacks.com

That's all. Looking to change shopping carts, and want to make sure
"the grass isn't greener".

Well it certainly works and the price is cool concidering you can use it over
and over and not repurchase it for every site. But it really is a tangled mess
of hair pulling spagetti code, it would be a good product if they "modernized"
it into cfc's and some kind of logic. Adding additional features and what not
is also a major PITA as is finding all the form fields to trim and secure and
going thru and queryparaming everything kinda gets old and frusterating.
With that being said, it certainly is worth the money for a quick store and if
you were to take a day or two and make a store then go in and clean it up and
move to cfc's and non-spagetti code then save that to re-use it would be well
worth it.

Personally, I am going to go with something else or make my own the next time
because once you add those additional feature you are up to like $750

Yes, they sell a plugin for PHP that does this or use the free CFFM
(http://www.opensourcecf.com/cffm/) for the same effect under CFML.
CFFM also works with FCKeditor.

Re: anybody a cartweaver user?

2006-06-07 Thread Crow T. Robot
All right, you asked for it. :)

1) Is there a way to import an existing product database of products
that my client already has into CartWeaver? I would assume that I'd
have to export the DB into some kind of CSV file, then import it into
the DB that CW supplies, but is there some kind of documented format?
Or do I have to roll my own?

2) Does the cart automatically use some kind of shopper account process
where repeat customers can just log in and have their info stored in the
DB somewhere to prevent them from having to supply this info every time?

3) Is there a Gift Certificate module (or already built-in) where they
could buy GC's? I already know the pitfalls and difficulties inherent
in this, but some carts have figured it out (like CfWebStore).

4) Is there a way to select a group of products and put them on sale
without having to go in and change the individual product prices themselves?

5) Is there a real-time shipping module (ie; UPS, USPS, etc) available?
  From what I've read, this is a no, but no doesn't always mean no. At
least in this case.

That's all. Looking to change shopping carts, and want to make sure
"the grass isn't greener".

Thanks,

Ray

Dave,

Chack your network connections. Switch providers if it helps. Sounds to me
like every site you visit is "slow."

I know, I know, and i'm just kidding, but really, you've never seen a speedy
enough CF framework-driven or asp.net site?

I've built and visited a number of each, most all quite fast (when on good
or local hardware). Therefore, check your connection. Maybe your ISP is
sending your signal through 14.4k modems. :D

OT: accesskey conundrum

2006-06-07 Thread Damien McKenna
Here's the story. I'm working on a series of somewhat long forms
that I'd like to make completely accessible using accesskeys in
addition to other basics (labels, pure CSS layout, etc). The problem
is that I'm ending up with more fields than accesskeys makes sense
for, and there are multiple fields that could/should use the same
key. One idea I had was to have one accesskey defined for the top
field in each fieldset then just let them tab between the different
fields, but that isn't great in e.g. OSX that has fairly crappy
keyboard navigation anyway. So what do y'all do to overcome this for
your accessible forms?  Thanks.

I tried to be a 'List Cop' once on this list, when someone asked a
question about a MySQL query, and everybody jumped down my throat
(admittedly I wasn't very tactful). This list gets a LOT of traffic,
and I know it's annoying at times to see so much OT stuff. That said,
there is little to no list moderation here, and in general it's a free
for all. All tech related topics seem to be fair game, from ASP.Net
problems to Windows administration. So, I find myself participating in
OT topics, and I gave up on trying to keep things 'OT' (although I try
not to originate OT threads), because honestly I can't even tell what
the topic is supposed to be (even though the list title should provide
some direction). And I don't envy the list creators either, because the
bandwidth here is pretty much unmanageable. I'd love too know if there
are any posted rules on HOF somewhere so people could be pointed that
direction when neccessary. But there are a lot of people on the list
that don't care, and will often say "You know where your delete button
is, use it!"

Well, I have no say whatsoever about what's allowed on this list, any more
than you have. And I certainly have nothing against suggestions based on
experience. I was merely commenting on the increase in list noise in the
last few days, about OSs, editors, frameworks, etc; this isn't really
intended to be a personal criticism of you (or anyone else in particular)
but I had a useful response to this question, so this was a good a place as
any to comment.

But you do have to admit, many times on this very list you've provided your
feelings about Linux vs Windows; I seem to recall your self-description as a
"Linux snob". And there's nothing wrong with that. I agree with you that for
general server functionality, Linux is better than Windows, all other things
being equal. But this list covers a pretty specific topic - CF - and a
little evangelism about OT subjects goes a long way. A lot of people use
Windows because they have to, or because they're more comfortable with it,
or because that's what came on their shiny new Dell server, and "use Linux

Dave Gruska

That would be cool to see, it is one of the first things I thought of when I
started playing with ASP.NET.

I got rid of the solutions/projects, what ever they are officially called, I
did not want by deleting the directories. Once I found all of them.

I am still struggling with some aspects of the IDE. No strict doc types,
either HTML or XHTML. And a strong tendency to make lots and lots of inline
CSS, but that seems to be more the way the tutorials are structured then
anything.

Re: Fusebox 4 Slow?

2006-06-07 Thread Nathan Strutz
I would argue your point about competent being the same as having your own
framework. That's pretty blanketed. Think of all the developers who don't
have their own.

Open-sourcing projects (including frameworks) is a great way to get
community feedback and come closer to perfecting the product. In this sense,
it becomes everyone's framework.

Competent in this case is simply having a solid understanding of what you
are doing and being proficcient at it.

Re: Fusebox 4 Slow?

2006-06-07 Thread Nathan Strutz
Didn't see anyone directly answer this...

Yes, the "straight cfm" would probably be faster, assuming you were
cfincluding dependencies at the page level vs a framework doing it at the
controller, and they have the same "model" layer, if any, like a single
basic cfc.

Would it be noticeable? Depends on a couple things, but I would say
somewhere between "no" and "just barely." YMMV, and with frameworks you have
to enable production mode, turn on page caching in your admin, etc. to see
the real performance levels.

Eric,

You'd be surprised how many people develop sites like this. Pretty much
everywhere I've gone, there's been some form of quasi-fusebox 1 or 2
applications (and if there weren't any, I'm sure I've made it so there were

Good to know, it's been literally years since I did FTP scripting, so
I'm kind of out of the loop, but I had a tough time doing it back when I
needed it. Part of my problem was budget, and part of it was lack of
programming skills (back then). At the time, I did try to script the
built-in Windows FTP client, but I didn't try it with WSH, so I guess
there's where I went wrong.

I'm wrong, I stand corrected. I was just making a suggestion based on
my experience, and I'd hope that is allowed on this list.

Most third-party Windows FTP clients are scriptable. WS_FTP, for example. In
fact, you can even script the built-in Windows FTP client. Typing "windows
FTP scripting" into Google will give you a plethora of examples. I don't see
how it could be much easier than that. If you want to go beyond simple batch
scripting with the built-in FTP client, type "WSH FTP scripting" into Google
to see how to use Windows Script Host to script FTP.

Not to pick on you personally, but I think that the list would be better
served with less stuff about why one OS is better than another, or one
editor is better than another, etc, etc. There are plenty of other lists for
that stuff.

the best tool for your problem. I know you are probably very familiar
with CF, and maybe not familiar with other options like batch scripting,
but I'd presume that those tools are better suited to your task. There

whilst handy, I need something that I can use without having to change the
code I already have (~3 mil lines).
I am trying to get a stack of the SQL executed in a request from within an

Hey Tom,

thanks for the reply. I've tested it, and opening 20.000 connections, or
a single one makes a difference. It's not something we would like to run
in the background, since it is the total contents of our DNS servers,
and we're waiting on it to finish (*when* it runs; not too often (lucky
me)).

Anyway, another things that is strange, is that when I use the SAME
identifier for the connection, but in a DIFFERENT request, it works.

In 1 request:
 -> 10 minutes wait ->  FAILS

and

In 2 requests:
 -> 10 minutes wait ->  WORKS!

Also, the documentation states that:

"Changes to a cached connection, such as changing retryCount or timeout
values, might require reestablishing the connection."
[http://livedocs.macromedia.com/coldfusion/7/htmldocs/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=ColdFusion_Documentation&file=part_cfm.htm],

which might indicate that you should be able to reopen or reastablish a
connection.

True. But you could always use another socket server there are plenty XML
Socket servers. Or write your own in C++ or Java with the ability to create
threaded sockets for multiple simultaneous sockets.

Hmm a CF wrapper for the Java Socket Class, Anyone?

RE: ASP.NET How can one love it.

2006-06-07 Thread Ian Skinner
Lastly, I'm tempted to defend ASP.NET/Visual Studio, especially based on your
Subject line, but I don't want to start a flame war. I will say that I
absolutely love both CF and .NET.

Dave Gruska

I really don't have much against ASP.NET as long as it's not pushed on me with
"LEARN .NET or you will never work again..." type arguments. I wonder how many
people realize with very little work one could make CF run markup that looks
just like ASP.NET markup.

The 'overhead' of opening the connection can't be that bad though. Just open

Yeah, check it out. I don't use the data types that much, so I'm not

With CF7, you can use the result attribute of the cfquery tag.

Does anyone know if there is a way of getting the SQL strings executed
within a request at runtime without directly effecting the code (ie
doing it from within an error handler)?

I seem to have a vague recollection of Ben commenting on it in the past
but can't find anything.

Re: CF, Ajax and shared hosting.

2006-06-07 Thread James Holmes
Now that's cool to know. That's either really good desing on Arjun's
part or pure luck, since, as far as I can tell, ajaxCFC uses WDDX and
the CFWDDX tag to write the JS that gets written to the browser (which
is a really good choice btw) and CFAJAX uses other code. I'm going to
have to examine this more carefully.

Reopening timed out cfftp connection ..

2006-06-07 Thread |Rens| > 0
Hello all (new here) ..

I have a (quite difficult to explain) code-setup. What it boils down to
is this: My CFMX (7.1) application generates a bunch of files, that need
to be FTP-ed to another server.

The FTP connection will be cached, so that I don't have to suffer from
the overhead of the connection process. I need to generate and FTP
almost 20.000 files in one request. The thing is that the remote FTP
deamon will disconnect me after 300 seconds (indicated by a '[pid 3812]
[netmasters2] FTP response: Client "192.168.5.15", "421 Timeout."').

No problem, I thought at first. My philosophy was/is:

1. Try to upload the file using the existing connection
2. If [1] fails, then close and (re)open the existing connection
3. Try to upload it again

In pseudo-code:

Right, so my debug log tells me this:

===

   cfftp.ErrorCode   = -1
   cfftp.ErrorText = An exception occurred when performing the FTP
   putfile operation.
   cfftp.Succeeded   = NO
   cfftp.ReturnValue = NO
Reopening connection by calling request.udf.openFTPConnection( @array );
* [Open FTP connection] *

   cfftp.ErrorCode   = 421
   cfftp.ErrorText   = 421 Timeout.
   cfftp.Succeeded   = YES
   cfftp.ReturnValue = 421 Timeout.
* [Opening connection failed] *
* [Closing FTP connection] *

   cfftp.ErrorCode   = -1
   cfftp.ErrorText = An exception occurred when performing the FTP
   close operation.
   cfftp.Succeeded   = NO
   cfftp.ReturnValue = NO
* [Closing connection failed] *
* [Second attempt to open FTP connection] *

   cfftp.ErrorCode   = 421
   cfftp.ErrorText   = 421 Timeout.
   cfftp.Succeeded   = YES
   cfftp.ReturnValue = 421 Timeout.
===

I have been Google'ing for days now, but I can't figure out how to
reopen a connection that has been timed out. If anyone could tell me how
to do this, I would be very, very greatful ..

Theoretically, something like JProbe may be able to provide the info:

However, it's not likely to provide a friendly veiw of things - it
will show java classes, not CF names etc.

I am really happy with TGEDIT http://www.geomantics.net/
especially the $39 pricetag.
It works file with all versions of CF and they have a PHP
version for the same price
With a combo version that does both for $49. I have been
using it for quite awhile and
Haven't had a single problem and it has a lot of features
not included in other RichText
Editors I have tried. Check it out.

RE: Large cfserver.log file a performance issue?

2006-06-07 Thread Brad Wood
Speaking of memory utilization, is there any want to pinpoint how much
webserver memory is being used by any specific variable or object used
in your application.

For example, in our app, we persist a large result set in the
application scope containing all of the security rights for all roles,
groups etc...

That way on each page load, we don't have to hit the database over and
over again, but a query of query pulls what we need out of the
application scope.

Well I have always wondered just how easy it would be to see how much
memory is being consumed by this. 1Meg, 10Megs, 500Megs??

We are running MX7 on Redhat Linux-- No X Windows GUI, just telnet
access.

Does anyone know any shortcuts?

RE: soEditor

I know no one ever likes this suggestion, but I stand by the Xstandard
editor. XHtml compliance. Swet. And the free version is great. The Pro
version is amazing.

Is anyone using soEditor in their cms site? I'm looking for something that
I can use for cfm and .NET apps...i've tried using FreeTextBox editor but it
seems buggy and the support is not very good

Re: can't seem to get form in structKeyExists

Ony form fields, not the form name, get passed in with the form variables.
Change your if statement to the following:

That should fix it.

Re: http://coldfusion.sys-con.com/

2006-06-07 Thread Michael Dinowitz
House of Fusion is a combination of a few things. The first is that we're
getting about 4,000 extra people coming to the site per day. This started about
3 weeks ago and I have no idea what happened to cause this rush.
The second thing is that I was supposed to move the site to better hardware the
other week but between a death in the family, having to fly down to Florida and
back again before a major holiday and then getting sick from all the stress,
the move has been 'held'.
The third was me making some changes to the site code in preperation for the
move over. Sometimes things go bad. Not by choice, but
