[QtMoko] Navit package
Hi all, I'm going on a long trip soon, and wondered in what state the navit package for QtMoko currently is in. I saw on the apps page that you need to install it manually, using apt-get. mysql / firebird on freerunner
Hi, hase anybody running a mysql database or a firebird database on the freerunner? Is the freerunner fast enough for a full SQL-Database, or is it only fast ennough for single user databases like SQLLite? (i know that SQLLite is not single user... but it hase no tcp/ip server) My idea was to programm a Messanger/Phonebook/Dialer Programm with a SQL-Backend in free pascal. The reason to use mysql or firebird in stead of SQLLite would be, that i could connect to the database per network and edit the data in a easy way over a frontend on my computer. (without mounting the device in any way, or programm a syncManager) Or would you say don't do the hole wheel again ... wait for the FSO interface for phonebook etc. . So we all will use the same backend. Re: My solution (was: Car Charger?)
Hi all, After talking with Christoph from Pulster we thought I'd share my car holder solution to everyone :) Attached you can find the photos of my car holder. Basically, the whole thing did only cost me 5€ (~3 USD), but I had to modify it slightly for the FR (explanation bellow). I bought it from a local store here in Spain, called El Corte Inglés. Basically, it's a cheap mobile holder which you can get in every store and which is attached to the air duct covers. The problem I had was that the FR has it's buttons and USB port at the bottom and the holder comes designed to hold the mobile at the bottom ;) It has two pieces: One that attaches to the car, and the other which holds the mobile. I just flipped the whole thing over, so it holds the FR at the top. But then with the vibrations it would come off so I just glued the two pieces together. In some applications this could actually be a very neat thing, depending on for instance the type of holder you have to clasp your FR. the icon problem should be solved. try - opkg -force-depends remove illume-config illume-config-asu opkg install illume-theme-asu stop the xserver remove ~/.e start the xserver - with the illume theme there is another problem. it is crashing all the time, until you change the engine. so for the illume package you need to do this: - opkg -force-depends remove illume-config illume-config-asu opkg install illume-config-illume illume-theme-illume stop the xserver remove ~/.e start the xserver go into the configuration page (with the icon in the upper left corner and not with the settings icon on the desktop) select engine select the software engine (not the default selected software_16). close all restart xserver - the background is now in grey and the menue drop down is not really what i want, but i have querty again. and i have working icons. so i could use my phone again. but they still have to go their way until 2008.11 :) b John Lee schrieb: -- the only supported combination is illume-theme-asu + illume if you got stuffs like illume-config, illume-config-asu, please remove them. illume-theme-asu comes with both config and theme files. it does NOT include 'qwerty' button and 'wrench' config. I have also seen the illume default combination works: illume-config-illume + illume-theme-illume + illume notice that config and theme comes in different packages here. it DOES include qwerty and wrench. the way to switch between different sets of config and theme is to set it in /etc/enlightenment/default_profile . this is ugly and will/should be solved in upstream soon. - Xavier Cremaschi schrieb: A recent update to testing showed this bug still occurs in my situation. [QtExtended] Bluetooth car handsfree in 4.4.2
Hi list, I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out the last missing pieces of a puzzle :) I'm trying to use my bluetooth car handsfree under QT Extended, and so far made good progress. Using the 2.6 kernel from the android download, the rfcomm bug in the bluetooth driver seems to be solved. With this kernel, I am able to pair, and 100% of the features of the car handsfree do work, e. g. an incoming call is registered and I am able to answer, outgoing calls made through booth Qtopia Dialer and the handset work, etc... But the problem is I get no sound - at no end of the call. So I saw from the Qtopia logs that the state file was missing, and I downloaded one from this [1] page, confirmed to work. Now I get static noise in the headset, which I suppose is a good thing (tm) :), but still no sound. In a call, I've tried to change alsamixer, but to no avail. That leads me to suspect that it's not an alsa problem at all. I instead think that Qtopia is not routing the audio properly. So my question is: How does Qtopia handle audio via bluetooth, is it like described in [1]? Do I need some alsa/bluez tweaking (not state files) here? Has anyone tried this yet? I strongly believe this can work and that I am on the right path. It seems it's just something silly I'm missing :( Cheers, - Benedikt [1] http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Manually_using_Bluetooth#Bluetooth_Headset_on_Freerunner www.relamp.tk This e-mail is digitally signed by a PGP key, to verify it's authenticity. Yes, but the first part of my message was more about the framework than Debian. We're not looking for a Debian specific way of adding rules, but a general one, which Debian could use. But agreed, the second point probably belongs to the other list, but that is not my priority right now. Not going to reboot the FR every day :) 1) I'm writing some python programs to interact with the FSO framework. I have seen there's now support for a rules file, which seems quite a nice idea. Now, I would like to be able to modify these rules via my program. That way, for example, I could set a screen blanking / suspend timeout but my program wouldn't have to listen to events. It would automatically be done by the framework. Is this possible? If not, any plans to implement something like a D-BUS interface for modifying rules? You can already add new rules using the dbus call : org.freesmartphone.Events.AddRule(s) Is there any already-coded program that do that? Something like update-frameworkd-rules, for the end-user. That would be interesting to do as an addition to the framework functions. The program could be a python script accessing the framework over D-BUS for adding/deleting/activating rules. the string should be in the same format than the rules in the rules file. Is there a way to know which rules are available? IMHO the above update-frameworkd-rules should have a --show/--list option for that (this reminds me of `git config` [3]...). +1, but maybe this is already implemented in the framework. I haven't had time to test the rules interface yet, but I will do as soon as I can. For the way to modify rules, it is planned. Rules can have name (using 'name' attribute in the rules file.) I will take some time today to add a RemoveRule, so that you can add and remove rules. Ok I added the RemoveRule method to oeventsd, you can check oevents.py in the framework tests directory to see how to add and remove rules. BUT, it makes me realize a problem : the rules manager only activates the rules that are specified in the rules preference file (e.g [0]) So if you add a new rule with a name, the rule won't be activated unless you also specify that the rule is activated in the preference file. that is not very good and we need to solve this problem. The whole story above led me thinking about how Debian should manage these rules. The main problem here is that Debian must ship a working setup, which at the same time should be configurable through Debian packages, as I explained at [4]. The above program you've mentioned would come in handy there. :) Cheers, Benedikt What's upstream plan? Having one unique rules file or splitting the configuration into single and more specific ones? [OM2008.8 - testing] - no desktop icons any more.
hi, is someone on the testing tree of the 2008.8 distro, and solved the icon problem yet? i upgraded to the latest testing 2008.8 packages. I know that there is a problem with the splash screen at boot up, that isn't solved yet. so i disabled the boot screen (btw: that saves 10 seconds boot time) But now i don't have any desktop icons. also the clock-, battery- and signal-panel is at one place now. i restored the old ~/.e directory but that didn't changed anything. some ideas? thx beni ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

Because it is very unnormal for a bug to show up just by me, i thought where is the differnce between my freerunner and most of the other freerunners out there. And then i remebered that i had installed qi. So i flashed U-Boot back to the freerunner. no usb-ethernet
I'm a little bit confused. On the devel List I read that the real ASU image has a black Wallpaper. But where can I download it? I downloaded this one http://buildhost.openmoko.org/daily/freerunner/200808/20080807/openmoko-openmoko-qtopia-x11-image-glibc-ipk--20080807-om-gta02.rootfs.jffs2 but it has the wallpaper of the FSO image and the nice qwerty button at the top left. Which image is this, SHR ? Greets Simarillion i also downloaded thisone today, with the result of not having a usb-ethernet any more. could you connect to your freerunner over usb? without a pre installed terminal i also couldn't do very much to analyse the problem. i think there are still some problems with this package . (ie.: the yesterday rootfs had false opkg-feeds. don't know if they changed this yet) But i also have installed a new kernel. ( http://buildhost.openmoko.org/daily/freerunner/200808/20080806/uImage-om-gta02-latest.bin ) Maybe the kernel didn't have the usb-ethernet-device as buildin any more, and the rootfs didn't have the module included yet. Re: 2.5mm or 3.5mm
if i believe wikipedia, then there is also a 5 contact version of the 3.5mm connector. [wiki:] Four and five conductor versions of the 3.5 mm plug are used for certain applications. A four conductor version is becoming a de facto standard output connector for compact camcorders http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camcorder, providing stereo sound plus a video signal. [end wiki] ... i like the idea of a such an inteligent TRS connector. like it is in your N95. Nadav schrieb: 3.5, definitely. And continuing the earlier comment about Nokia - the N95 (and possibly other models) has a very interesting 3.5mm connector that provides much more than just sound. If a 3.5mm headphones are inserted, it plays regular stereo. However it also accepts the more advanced connector of Nokia's provided headphones which also have a small console to control volume, play/stop/forward/backward, etc.. That one has 4 contact points and not 3 like in regular stereo headphones. It even supports video playback - there is a cable that comes in the box and uses the same connector point to output several video types. Sometimes the phone detects the plugged device automatically (I guess if it supports some Nokia standard), and if it doesn't recognize, it provides the user a list of options to choose from (headphones, tv-out cable, music stand). Just a thought... He used the OM Software because the ASU was hangup with the suspend mode. the display turned off completly and was going back on when a call was incomming. (he sayed it wasen't so with the none suspend mode) the phone was running a bit over 12 hours. .. but i think the real interesting things are already translated and posted to this list. so i don't know if it would be realy interresting for you to have a full translation of the reports. Re: :-) Re: Alarmclock puzzle
:) Whats about steeling time from other mokos? So, your phones will already ring again after 1 minute and i have just a litle more time to sleep. :) I like the puzzle idea, and also the voice variant. But i still think, i like it most if my girl wakes me up and not my phone ;) Schmidt András schrieb: Alexander Frøyseth wrote: Hello again I just have an idea for an nice addon or software (call it what you want) to the alarmclock Okey, let me tell a little story from real life. Every day when I go to school, I have to wake up, and now I have 2 alarmclocks, but still I manage to oversleep. Soo what I was thinking about was that I have to solve a puzzle to turn the alarmclock off, and not just push a button. One possibility is a 4 bits jigsaw puzzle like this: http://www.bimbambanana.com/index.php?p=Puzzle-alarm-clock-cool-gadgetsside=visProdprod_id=21 another, and perhaps an more easy to make is that the screen shows fours digits that you have to click in right order to turn it off. Perhaps like an antibot test on websites. I am more as an web programmer, so I isent so good to program software. NOTE: You have to have the choice to turn this on and off when you sets the clock Hope that someone think this is a good idea, and tries to program one.
