The aim is not to force people to update every 4 months, anyone can

Problem is that in a multiuser system, if you allow the value 1024,

Hi

I noticed that on kdebase 69mdk both kdebase-progs and kdebase provide
kdebase but only kdebase-progs provides kdebase3 - shouldn't it be
kdebase that provides kdebase3 as when arts is installed it will
obsolete kdebase3 and thus remove kdebase-progs rather than kdebase

Sometimes last week, an update to GNOME (Cooker) made the Actions menu on the
top panel (menu containing Run Application, Take Screenshot, Log Out, etc,) not
localized.

This applies to Czech language.

It has been always localized in recent Cookers, and GNOME 2.4 has 100%
translation status. It just broke in a recent update, so I guess it must be a
packaging error.

Just about anything else seems to be localized correctly.

Currently there are places in installer where the user has to select a hard
drive for some operation (e.g. installing the bootloader).

However, the selection is ony possible by device node filenames (like /dev/hda)
- one cannot always be sure what drive does a particular node correspond to.

I propose that in such places not only the device node filename be shown, but
also a description of the device's model, like in this example:

/dev/hda: SAMSUNG SV2042H

The information can be extracted from /proc/ide/hdX/model (substitute [a-d] for
X of course). I don't know about SCSI, though...

The most obvious places where this would be used are partitioning phase (the
drive tabs at the top of the disks scheme), and bootloader installation (where
you select the drive where the bootloader would be installed).

In the partitions editor I would imagine that each tab gets a bit higher to
contain the second line of text: in addition to device name (e.g. hda) it would
contain the model string in the second row below. Of course, the second row
would use a smaller font since the string would be much longer than device name.

For assessing typical sizes of Hard driver model strings, here are some samples
extracted from my machines, grouped by vendor:

Samsung:
SAMSUNG SV2042H
SAMSUNG SV4002H

Western Digital:
WDC WD43AA
WDC WD150EB-00BHF0

Seagate:
ST3120023A

In bootloader installation, the drive for bootloader is selected from a
drop-down, so I propose that instead of plain device name, the model string be
simply appended there with concatenation.

Looks like an issue with the removal of modules from the running kernel.

I hand ran the network portion of the network suspend script and I stopped the
network and shutdown any service that could even possibly use the network then
did the /sbin/modprobe -r eepro100 then I started seeing the following in the log:

/etc/hotplug/net.agent: NET unregister event not supported
unregister_netdevice: waiting for eth0 to become free. Usage count = 2.

This is really kind of important for laptop users or those who have their

/dev/floppy/0u14402.4G 1.8G 454M 81% /tmp/mkbootdisk

oddly enough this is the same as:

/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part7 2.4G 1.8G 455M 81% /

It makes it hard to create a floppy. ( And lately I need it with my

[Cooker] [Bug 4691] [adiusbadsl] problem at installing sagem fast800 asdl with eth0

2003-09-08 Thread [yann_cochard]
http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=4691

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-08-09 11:31 ---
Hi all,

I confirm that MandrakeLinux has big difficulties to manage this USB Sagem [EMAIL
PROTECTED]
800 ADSL modem, especially when there is also an Ethernet card in the PC.

Mandrake 9.1 was working fine with this modem if there was no Ethernet card,
detecting and configuring it simply. 9.2b2 and 9.2RC1 are not as good, it simply
does not work.
Worse : upgrading the 9.1 to cooker breaks the free.fr internet connection via
the sagem [EMAIL PROTECTED] 800 modem. I had to physically remove the Ethernet card to
have
it working again. So I suppose the Mandrake scripts need eth0 to be associated
to the internet connection.

I do think it is mandatory for the final release of this Linux distrib to be
able to install and configure smoothly on a PC with this Sagem modem AND one or
two Ethernet card (used for connecting to an internal network with internet
connection sharing).
To reach this goal, I would suggest to use eth9 for the USB connection, and to
let eth0 (and eventually eth1, ...) for real physical Ethernet devices.

Yann.

I've installed Mandrake 9.2 beta 2 and my sagem fast800 (usb) does not work
correctly, here are the remarks I've got :
- now it works correctly : I only missed a correct /etc/resolv.conf (either link
it to /etc/ppp/resolv.conf or add Free's DNS)
- my config has an ethernet card for LAN and Sagem Fast 800 usb for connection
to internet via Free
- the problem may come from either DrakConnect or script to install eagle driver
- I used the assistant
- ADSL modem is detected but pppoe is selected instead of pppoa ADSL usb
(detected) = it should be selected automatically instead of a LAN connection
(what's the point of detecting it otherwise ?)
- I did not enter any DNS as I was relying on autodetection
- I got a Bad IP for eth0 (as in MdK9.1... till I fixed it)
- After some reflexion, I modified /etc/sysconfig/network (it had only
NETWORKING=yes, I added HOSTNAME and GATEWAYDEV) and then I completed
/etc/resolv.conf with DNS to have the ping work (and then internet access)

Conclusion : it should work first time, with not so many choices and be foolproof
I'll verify again from scratch but I'm waiting till RC1 (or RC2) to verify that
it works well. I think it's compulsory for Linux acceptance by the noobie (which
I am).

I'm trying to rebuild the current WindowMaker from cooker src.rpm but am failing
due to an internal compiler error.

Here's what makes it happen:

My compiler flags are optimized for athlon-xp, so that's where -mfpmath=sse
comes from. If I drop the switch, everything compiles fine.

[Cooker] [Bug 877] [Bugzilla] Two drakconf entries

http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=877

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-08-09 11:58 ---
Ooops - prematurely removed my vote.

Florent, I think you meant the same thing by marking it as later, but the
behavior *isn't* normal. Two bugzilla items that share the same name should
not be treated as the same item. They aren't when you open a bug, so they
shouldn't be when you vote for one, either.

This same bug is valid for bugzilla (the app) and Bugzilla (the Mdk server
I'm sending this in to).

My guess is that this is a problem to be fixed upstream, but I just wanted to
make sure that it wasn't relegated to no problem at all status. :)

Since this potentially is a bug with the install process, I've tweaked the
summary to indicate it. Reporter, please feel free to correct that if you feel
another phrase describes the situation better.

Also, as different people maintain the packages listed in comment 4, it may be
worth opening a bug report on each of them. While I wouldn't expect you to
hand-sift through *every* package, it's good that you found several already
and it would be a shame to let potential resultant fixes go to waste.

Hello,

Could this trivial patch be applied to the MDK kernel ? It enables
support for the new SL-C760 Zaurus from Sharp in the usbnet module.
Otherwise this device is not recognized by the system. I am using it on
my machine and it works fine.
Should be applied to drivers/usb/usbnet.c, basically just adds two
structures with the proper id for the device.
Regards,

You can try this with pysol 4.82: remove your ~/.pysol and start the
program. The default cardset is oxymoron and not 2000. I don't know
why the old charset was removed, there's nothing in the README. Maybe
there were legal problems with the old cardset, that's why I don't
want to put it back. You could ask the author for a reason, but he

After some pointe df shows this ( and says that there is no space )

/dev/floppy/0u14402.4G 1.8G 454M 81% /tmp/mkbootdisk

oddly enough this is the same as:

It makes it hard to create a floppy. ( And lately I need it with my

mkbootdisk was run both from the gui and from the command line:

Could this setting be added in default sysctl.conf ?

olivier Thanks, but shouldn't this be the default in default security
level ? olivier RTC works fine, but sysctl.conf need to be tweaked.
olivier IMHO, the user shouldn't have to do that.

Problem is that in a multiuser system, if you allow the value 1024,
you can create a DOS if several users use that.
I guess most multimedia applications are only usable by local user, not a
remote one, which means only one at a time. This should reduce DOS risks, no?

What about adding this setting only through mplayer, tvtime and other packages
requiring it %post/%postun facilities ?

Default value of 64 should be enough except for single-user machines
running an _almost_ real time application. And yes, for today
machines, mplayer is still real-time like application.
Not sure to understand what you mean there.

It is:
%config(noreplace) %{_sysconfdir}/sysconfig/%{name}

(see
http://cvs.mandrakesoft.com/cgi-bin/cvsweb.cgi/SPECS/bootsplash/bootsplash.spec)

But, the postinstall script of mandrake_theme does some mods to the file:

perl -pi -e 's/^\s*SPLASH=.*/SPLASH=auto/;
s/^\s*THEME=.*/THEME=Mandrake/' %_sysconfdir/sysconfig/bootsplash

So, maybe your bug is in mandrake_theme?

[Cooker] [Bug 5398] [apache-conf] New: Apache should not specify a default character set for text/* types

According to http://www.w3.org/TR/html401/charset.html#h-5.2.2 and
http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.0/mod/core.html#adddefaultcharset when a charset
parameter is specified in the Content-Type HTTP header sent by the server, it
overrides the charset specified in the meta tag of the HTML document.

Apache shipped with Cooker has the directive AddDefaultCharset set to
ISO-8859-1 (see commonhttpd.conf). Consequently, all HMTL documents are
considered as ISO-8859-1 documents by conforming web browsers such as Mozilla,
even if they are UTF-8 or Windows-1252 documents according to their meta tag.

This behavior, though not severe, is a bit irritating because in most case (if
not all) the meta tag reflects the correct character set for the document.

Therefore, the AddDefaultCharset directive should be set back to its default
value (Off).

Also posted this on cooker a couple of weeks before, but no reponse,

http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=mandrake-cookerm=106080744325016w=2

 so I'm
 filing an official bug report:

I've installed a pretty strict antispam ruleset for our exim4 MTA which
among other things expects real RFC822 compliance.

The mails from bugzilla at qa.mandrakesoft.com fail here:

Easy to workaround on our side, but it might be a good idea to make the
mails RFC822 compatible as other MTA might reject those mails as well.

This is probably one of the reasons why some people whine about not
getting
 mails from bugzilla.

Well, it seems that it is a configuration issue on your side?

I have a SMC-2662W device and an internal network card (e100 - eth0). I can

run down of the steps (and the bugs):
-Start the computer (e100 is connected to the network)
-Plug in the device
-Device seems to be recognised by driver usbvnetr : ../src/usb/vnetusba.c: usb
eth1 initialized and registered (IMPROVEMENT: some visual feedback or sound on
this would be great, especially for newbies)
-run Drakconnect
-Device is there under eth1 but driver says e100 (BUG)
-Create new profile called stuff
-Stuff is not availab;le in the list of profiles (BUG)
-Create new profile called stuff
-Select stuff in the list of profiles (it's now available)
-Half the time this crashes Drakconnect (think it might be DHCP on eth0 taking 2
minutes to time out, hint hint) (BUG:reduce timeout for DHCP)
-Launch the wizard (let's try it out !!)
-Use auto detection and Expert mode are checked

why i pressed the Launch Wizard button)
-Next
-Found Intel... Pro 100 network, do you have another one? (BUG: where is my
vnetusba device???)
-Yes - Next
-Select usbvnet_rfmd
-Next
-Another one?, No, Next
-Config eth0(e100), i set up static address

-Config eth1(e100) (BUG: it should be usbvnet_rfmd)
-Setup as DHCP (BUG: where is the wireless options configuration???)
-Next
-Zeroconf - nothing, hostname: i set up stuffy, Next
-Next
-Proxies - none
-Next
-Config complete, apply??? yes - Next
-Network restarted, do I want to restart??? Yes - Next
-Computer hangs for a couple of minutes (BUG: wireless is trying to get address
from DHCP but I haven't configured the wireless options so where is it going to
get it from??? Nowhere. Reduce the timeout, please)
-Congratulations (BUG: Drakconnect has blatantly not been able to configure
DHCP, where is the feedback on that)
-BUG: ok, I have two network interfaces connected, where do I specify which
one I use for connecting to the internet in the wizard???
-Finish
-Click Configure Hostname
-Enter the DNS server and gateway (BUG: what i they are supplied by DHCP i.e.
linked to the previous bug, let teh user choose which interface is used to
connect to the internet)
-I enter the manual values - i know them
-Finish
-Click Configure Internet Access
-BUG: gateway, i just entered that, something better would be a list of
available devices and let the user choose, which one is used to connect to teh
internet
-Click Ok
-Click Ok again to exit Drakconnect (BUG: again, running DHCP and waiting for
timeout)

Now two situations: I am a newbie and I have no idea how to configure wireless
settings and I can't find any tool to do so - I ditch MDK 9.2 and go back to
Windblows world.
I am me and i wat to support MDK, so I manually run iwconfig to set up the right
iwconfig parameters, ok, wireless is up, now i still need DHCP !! (BUG: where am
i meant to enter the wireless settings so they are saved ?? also, how about
multiple wireless profiles)

-Click on Drakconnect again
-BUG: eth1 has disappeared
-Relaunch the whole wizard with teh smae bugs :(
-BUG: although i specify I have a usbvnet_rfmd device, I cannot configure it
(Wizard only does eth0) :-(

It would be nice if this could be fixed, I'll check this bug regularly because
it really matters to me so I am willing to give as much info as possible.

(From update of attachment 648)
I tracked the problem down and found the problem in ~/GNUStep/Defaults/WMMail.

There MailboxHasInternalData was Yes where it should have been No.

So my patch is obsolete but I think it would be good to change
MailboxHasInternalData to No because it is unlikely that standard users
have internal data (eg. IMAP related) in their mbox files.

You can reproduce this by trying to install any of the FlashPlayer or RealPlayer

olivier IMHO, the user shouldn't have to do that.

Problem is that in a multiuser system, if you allow the value 1024,
you can create a DOS if several users use that.
I guess most multimedia applications are only usable by local user, not a

remote one, which means only one at a time. This should reduce DOS risks,
 n
 o?

not always, one can have multiple local users
(even if mandrake doesn't want to support it : small user interest ?)

What about adding this setting only through mplayer, tvtime and other
 packa
 ges
 requiring it %post/%postun facilities ?

Default value of 64 should be enough except for single-user machines
running an _almost_ real time application. And yes, for today

Not sure to understand what you mean there.

Alex, just because diskdrake shows the device strings in expert mode, doesn't
mean it would not be worthwhile:
a)Showing the make (ie Maxtor/Hitachi/Seagate etc) of the drive in normal mode
b)Showing at least the make of the drive in any other screen where a
partition/disk name is used (ie in drakboot).

 - constant files under /usr/lib/mailman, variable files under
 /var/lib/mailman - better mta integration at %post
 - turned webserver requires to apache, as we use apache specific macros and
configuration - additional files as sources, not patches
I've changed many things in this release, as previous one was broken anyway...

I've tried to adapt %post to automatically adapt to mta used, meaning either
postfix or sendmail. However, as i don't have any clue about sendmail (except
it uses ugly m4-based configuration), and the README.SENDMAIL is almost
empty, I just pushed old script into sendmail-specific part. Could mail gurus
