Re: [slim] Announcement Squeezecenter 7.2

2008-10-18 Thread mbg

I've been having SC 7.2 problems, too... I had 7.2 installed for a week
or so. Something would happen quite frequently (not sure what) and the
Squeezebox would go completely blank (I think it was a wireless network
drop) and have difficulty coming back. Pushing a button on the remote
brought up the Connecting to wireless network status message and it
just stayed there for awhile.

Back to 7.1 and everything is fine... I've been using 6.5, 7.0, 7.1
without problems like this.

Re: [slim] Announcement Squeezecenter 7.2

2008-10-06 Thread Shakey

I lost power the other night and when I rebooted it all I ended up
getting the latest firmware on my SB3 and then needed to load SC 7.2 on
my ReadyNAS.

This sucks! It has trouble finding my music folder and is slow as can
be.

I was running firmware version 52 prior and a similar ancient
SlimServer.

I want to go back. This is not an improvement, it is JUNK. What's
wrong with these people?

My files are mostly WAV or Apple Lossless.

The link to the old stuff doesn't go back far enough for me.

Any other sites have the old stuff?

Re: [slim] Announcement Squeezecenter 7.2

2008-10-05 Thread pd1acf

Hi All,

After using 7.2 for some weeks, i noticed one annoying problem :
-with browser selecting 'music collection'
-selecting 'genres' to show all the genres in the DB
-selecting a genre to show the albums belonging to this genre
-select 'all albums' which should show the album-art/titles only from
this genre.

With 7.2 it shows all albums of all genres !!!

As far as i remember this does not happen in 7.1.xxx an earlier.
The URL as copied from the page, does seem to include a specifier for
genre :

http://192.168.1.1:9000/browsedb.html?hierarchy=genre,contributor,album,trackartwork=1level=2genre.id=10player=00%3A04%3A20%3A12%3A03%3A11

Am i missing something, or is the query broken ?

Grtz,

ron

Downloaded v. 7.2 to my MacMini (OSX 10.5.5) and it works fine. Only

Also, on my MacBook Pro (OSX 10.5.5), same thing was happening in

Sonic degradation from compression and uncompression? It's lossless.
There is no degradation. Do you avoid downloading zip files and

Mathematically (and practically), the degradation is zero. If you
compress a wav file using a lossless algorithm like flac, and then
uncompress it again, the audio bits will be 100% identical to the
original wav.

go completely uncompressed than lossless. my entire cd collection

2008-09-13 Thread kgturner

i have an original SB3 and was previously using slimserver 6.5.4. i
upgraded to squeezecenter 7.2. all my music is in .wav format on an
external hard drive. i used a program called tagrename to enter
metadata for the .wav files (5099 of them). after installing 7.2, the
SB3/squeezecenter combo won't recognize any of the info. i'm left with
one artist (No Artist) and one album (No Album) that encompasses my
entire collection. that is absolutely ridiculous. i tried squeezecenter
7.1 but it was slow and buggy so i reverted back to 6.5.4. it appears i
will have to do the same again.

i had intended to purchase a transporter within the next year. somebody
please tell me i can use the transporter with slimserver 6.5.4 as it
appears to be the only stable software that's been released.

Strangely, if I go to the Extras menu on the SB, it shows up, but when

nothing happens.

I've recently upgraded to SC v7.2. The upgrade went fine and I

when moving to the next song and the Album info would be updated
correctly but clicking on the link would actually take me to the
previously played album listing. A reload of the web page sets
everything properly.

On top of all this, this behaviour seems to come and go - ie: not 100%
repeatable. I'll have to see if does the same thing with the stock
skin. I've cleared my cache etc... to see if that fixes it but it does
not.

Has anyone else observed this? Very strange.

Re: [slim] Announcement Squeezecenter 7.2

2008-09-08 Thread andlauer

Hello,

I would not recommend upgrading to SC 7.2. In my case, SC 7.2 is unable
to play Apple Lossless files, i.e. my whole music library. iTunes scan
can't find 6.000 of my 16.000 tracks, without useful information in the
scanner log. Display is not updated correctly when tracks are selected
during play.

It would certainly take me a day to document all the bugs.

I found a fix for one bug (#9420), and now I am tired.

Where can I find 7.1 or 6.5.4 for Ubuntu to downgrade until 7.3 is
released?

Mercy!

Jean-Charles

Hello Mitch,

Do you run SC 7.2 under Ubuntu? Do you have Apple lossless files? Do
they play correctly? If not please do not assert there is no problem
with Apple lossless files under Ubuntu (and probably Linux in general),
people might take your word for it, upgrade and not be able to play
their music (like me at my party on Friday night). According to the
forums (and the SC code) I am not the only one to experience the
problem.

Simply, I am not lucky enough to be in your situation. Good for you,
tough for me.

Re: [slim] Announcement Squeezecenter 7.2

2008-09-08 Thread Mitch Harding
I was really just responding to your comment that said I would not
recommend upgrading to SC 7.2. To me that sounded like a blanket
indictment of the release, and I merely wanted to point out that it
isn't broken for everyone.

My library is primarily FLAC and MP3, with some WMA and M4A mixed in.
With that library, under Ubuntu, with the SC 7.2 release, I have had
no problems.

I would never recommend an update prior to something like a party,
though -- there's always a risk in updating, even though (in my
experience) they're usually painless.

I'm running into the same problem. The ReadyNAS server isn't my

when I'm trying to re-install using ReadyNAS control panel the upload

saying file too big. This seems odd since I had successfully gone

Anyone else having problems with 7.2 and the Squeezebox 3 not displaying

I have adjusted the settings to display Now playing when it's playing

these have always worked perfectly for the last 3 years since I've had

It's frustrating to have to press now playing after you start an

One last question, is it possible to go back to 7.1?

That'd be a big surprise. Have you tried clearing your cache and
restarting your web browser? You could try selecting a different skin
too and see what that looks like (as it won't be cached if you've not
used it before).

nothing on the SB1G when turned off. (the power-off screensaver is set

If it is a small space then I think that it is intentional. I think
that the there was some discussion about the space character becomming
smaller with the new font a while back - but it has been a while now.
It is sort of a compromise, but things are not totally strung together
and I've not been bothered by it, I guess.

In my case it is definitely a smaller space and not a missing
space issue. When I first powered it on I thought the spaces were
missing, but further examination revealed they are just much smaller.

For me it's not a big deal. If it's by design, I'm fine with it --
just wanted to give my input in case this was unexpected.

If it is a small space then I think that it is intentional. I think
that the there was some discussion about the space character becomming
smaller with the new font a while back - but it has been a while now.
It is sort of a compromise, but things are not totally strung together
and I've not been bothered by it, I guess.

Re: [slim] Announcement Squeezecenter 7.2

2008-08-30 Thread pcdiks

I upgrade 7.1 to 7.2. I use the classic layout of the squeeze center
website and with version 7.2 the right side of the website is not
showing anymore. Switching to the standard layout is also not working
correctly. Anything I could check to solve this?

Re: [slim] Announcement Squeezecenter 7.2

2008-08-30 Thread pablolie

I love the 7.2 release, as it has truly made several of the issues I had
with the controller far more bearable - wakeup is not yet perfect, but
now I can live with it because it no longer requires me to turn the
controller off-on every x minutes.

But with 7.2 running on Linux Ubuntu 7.2, I seem to notice that the SB3
no longer displays the spaces in folders or file names, a behavior I
can't recall from 7.1. It s not a big issue, but I was wondering else
notices that a folder that is named George Benson now is displayed as
GeorgeBenson through the SB3 display when browsing in folder mode
(which admit is my favorite mode of browsing music).

Note the song and artist titles show correctly on the controller.

A bit of a guess here, but your problem might be related to some
display font changes they made to accommodate the smaller VFD on the
Boom, including fiddling with the space characters. Try deleting the
fontcache file on your SC installation. It should be in your cache
directory -- I think the standard Ubuntu location is
/var/lib/squeezecenter/cache/fontcache. Restart SC after deleting the
the fontcache file.

Re: [slim] Announcement Squeezecenter 7.2

2008-08-29 Thread andybjackson

Updating the firmware on my controller with Squeezecenter failed each
time I tried, despite reboots. Solution that worked for me was to
select to select a different player in Squeezecenter (I have a
Squeezebox v3 and a Duet Receiver), before trying again.

What I'd like to know is why the Linux RPM is the only package with a
7.2.1 label. Is there something different? Or was the file just
misnamed.

It is not actually 7.2.1. It's 7.2-1. That means its Release 1 of the
7.2 version. We're merely following RPM naming standards...

OK, got it. I see that you've followed this convention with previous

Still, the link on the web page is dead though.

Re: [slim] Announcement Squeezecenter 7.2

2008-08-29 Thread dsdreamer

I had been keeping my Squeezecenter at 7.01 and waiting for the official
7.2 to come out. I guess my usage model is not bleeding edge; my primary
goal is listening to music so I prize stability and usability above
bells and whistles. Nice to report that I installed 7.2 over a running
7.01 server and everything came up beautifully with no hassles. (Server
is a headless XP SP3 box running Avast! virus protection.) It did kick
off a rescan of the library which took about 20 minutes to fully
complete, but other than holding down the brightness button on each of
my two SB3 boxes, I had nothing else to do.

What is nice is that the default web UI is now usable, whereas the
slowness of that interface under 7.01 had caused me to resort to
touch which is a good deal simpler and usually faster. I still like
to use Moose 0.67a for a really slick library browser, though.

This is good stuff: I hope that now the 7.x squeezecenter is in pretty
good shape, we will only see small improvements in stability and
performance and the odd bug fix; no more revolutions, please.

Darn... Looks like the bug I reported still isn't fixed in 7.2 (iTunes
Plus 48Khz files play back at wrong sample rate). Oh well, I'll take
the Boom for now and cross my fingers for a 7.3 fix! ;-)
