2023-03-29 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ via DX4WIN
Hi John,Nice reeding your post this early morning. And I agree 100% with you.
Using dx4win from it's 1st release and despite some small issues I also still
stick to this logger, fast and easy to use, except during big contests, where
WinTest beats it and all others. After move to our ex-summer home and our staff
being in a container for over 6 months during preparation for permanent full
year living, my shack is still not completely QRV for making QSOs. But, I
expect to have more time to get it ready in a near future, so we may establish
a schedule.Last saturday was my 85th anniversary an we were waiting for the
whole familly to come, but unfortunately only Sasha with his familly managed to
come, Vladimir's flight was cancelled because of social movements in
France...Hoping that everything is fine with you and your familly, Mira and
myself send our 88 and 73 to you and your's, hoping to see you here one
day.Cheers,Radi

Paul says that is not likely to happen, at least not anytime soon.

Fortunately, it is not difficult to add FT8 QSOs to DX4Win.  I create a
shortcut to the WSJT-X (or JTDX) .adi file.  I import that file and it
imports very quickly.  Not ideal, but very easy.

If you need a logging program with real time uploads to Club Log, LOTW, full
integration with other software and other fun things, DX Labs software may
be your choice.  But the learning curve is steep and the number of settings
and options is significant.  DX4Win is very straight forward and so easy to
use.  I want to focus on making QSOs, not spending tons of time on the
logging program.

Just my 2 cents

I am just sorta on the fence here now since I finally have made the jump to
FT8 and just wondering if DX4WIN is going to be upgraded to handle WSJT-X
like it does with MMTTY. I have been using DX4WIN for many years and now
have 160K+ q's in the log. There are several minor changes I would like to
see but integration of WSJT-X is one that I would like to see. So while I
have been looking at all the windows logging programs now available I don't
really want to move away from DX4WIN if something is in the pipeline. If
nothing coming then I guess I'll be looking at other options. Thanks for

How do I unlock the DX4WIN window positions so that I can see them on the

Hi Jim,I think that is would now be best if you just add message to dx4win
reflector with a link to your site where the ic7300 rig file is ready for
download, becaise it is the same one I copied from dx4win 8.05 rig files. It
works perfectly both for the ci-v remote connector, as well as for the usb ci-v
, providing care is taken to have 19200 set in the radio, in dx4win and mHam
keyer, if used. An for usb ci-v have 57600 set in Windows Device Manager for
radio usb com port and in dx4win radio preferences.

The attachment didn't come through.  If you send it to me directly,

[Dx4win] IC-7300 rig file for dx4win 9.0.9

Hi,With the ic7300.rig file provided in dx4win v 9.0.9, logger doesn't read
radio's Band, Mode nor frequency, but sets it correctly when clicking on the
Spot.
This rig file should be replaced by the attached ic.7300 rig file made by
SM7IUN (already used in dx4w version 8.05).
With this file, one can control radio either via it's CI-V remote port or via
radio's USB port set for CI-V control in the radio menu.

2.   Filter|Selection
3.   Click ADD: type Hyeres in Currentselection
4.   Click 2 times on 001 and 002 toselect Home and Hyeres
5.   Check Group and date filter boxes
6.   Enter date filter 12/07/2018-25/09/2018
7.   Update
8.   OK: log window shows QSOs from selected period
9. QSO Window | QSO |Multiple QSOs Operations | Set Group Number: “45 QSOs
were changed”
10.   All these QSOs nowallocated to Hyeres Group 2 !!!
11.   Save As: NEWf6gnz.dxl
12.   Repeat above for other QSY date periods and re-save
13.   Check if number of QSOs are same in Old and New log
14.  Save As: f6gnz.dxl

Hi Radi,

The .INI file was/is in plain text format, as is config.txt

I believe for version 9, Paul wanted to avoid non-standard file
extensions.  For example, the custom awards file is no longer named
DX4WIN.AWD but instead is named custawds.dat.  In other words, text
files use the .TXT extension, while non-text (i.e. binary) files use
the .DAT extension.

Of course, that makes it a little more difficult to use some of the
files, particularly the saved configuration, between different
versions of DX4WIN.  But on the other hand, it makes it easier for the
user to look at and/or modify a .TXT file because Windows will open
these it using Notepad as the default editor.  Windows might open a
different application for a .INI file.

I hope this answers your question.

Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN 909 config file : MORE QUESTIONS

2021-04-06 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ via DX4WIN
I am confused:In DX4WIN v. 8.0.5 config files were stored in Save directory as
Config.INI files. For my different operating places and equipment, when Writing
Config files I could name them as DX4WIN Home 7610.INI, DX4WIN Hyeres 7300.INI
etc..
I could even load them into DX4WIN 9.0.9 from the 8.0.5 Save directory. But now,
after loading them from 8.0.5 and writing them to 9.0.9 Save directory as
ConfigHome.txt and ConfingHyeres.txt, I also see in the 9.0.9 Save directory
the files config.dat and config.~at
What is the relation between these config.txt and config.dat files? Are these
.DAT files reflecting only the current config status of the program?

Hi David, Lee and Paul,Thank you for comming back so fast to help me solve my
problem. In the meantime I found that I had created another one, this time
within the wsjtx log itself. By inadvertance, I have logged two QSY date groups
directly into the Home QSO log, by  opening the Home wsjtx instance instead of
the QSY one. That's the main reason of having those QSY conracts imported into
the Home Group 1.
Now, I will try to follow your advises in order to correct the DX4WIN
problem. Then, I would have to do it separtely in wsjtx log in order to merge
two QSY date groups into the main wsjtx log.
I will keep you informed on how my efforts went in order to have a clean DX4WIN
log group allocation.
So, thanks again for your help. It's tome to go to horizontal polarisation :) ..

[Dx4win] Reflector vs. DX4WIN Group site

2021-02-08 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ via DX4WIN
Hi Paul,
DX4WIN Reflector was very useful for program users, helping them on different
issues and replying to their questions.
But if it could be possible to replace the Reflector with the DX4WIN User
Group, like many HAM Groups that existed on the Yahoo Groups and now moved to

Start Windows Device Manager and display COM Ports.Insert  the cable plug
into IC7300 CI-V jack (REMOTE) and the USB plug  to PC USB port. In device
manager see the comport number of the new created comport. I port  Properties
set baud rate to 57600 (same as IC7300 default in DX4WIN/Radio tab).  Set Radio
COM Port in DX4WIN to same Port number of new detected Port in Device Manager
(or you can change Port numbers to different numbers in Com Port Properties and
in DX4WIN Radio Tab to be the same in both).
If these Port numbers are different from one used in WSJT-x or other programs
using the radio USB COM3 port, there will be no conflict.
If you use win4icom application, it is also best to keep DX4WIN set to the CI-V
port and out of the ic4win program which controls the radio on its COM3 USB
port and connect other applications on win4icom Aux ports.
Hope this helps.

Jay, Yiu need ti use the ci-V to usb adapter and connect it to the ci-V remote
port of ic7300. When connected to usb port of your PC, it will get the port
number and use this number found in Device Manager and set the bit rate to the
one defined in your ic7300 ci-V configuration. Then use com 3 only in wsjt-x.
This will avoid comport conflicts. You can find ci-V adapter on Internet or
make yourself from circuit diagrams found there.Another possivility of using
only the existing usb comport 3 with several applications without conflict is
to use very fine program called win4icom you can download from icom.va2fsq.com

I do have to have DW4WIN off to start WSJT-x or I get a conflict warning.
The real problem comes when I try to open the PSK window in DX4WIN.

[Dx4win] Router hangs during opening

2020-04-26 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ via DX4WIN
Recently, on my Win10/64 2.4 GHz i5 PC with 8GB Ram, Microkeyer III , router
9.2.2 when opened started to hang ("not responding") for about 2-3 minutes
before it detects the Keyers and displays related tabs.
What might be the reason for this? Some new Microsoft Win10 lucky update?

[Dx4win] Re :RE: CW Skimmer with DX4WIN ??

2020-04-19 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ via DX4WIN
Hello Guy and Ricardo, Yes, in my first configuration I was also using the
Microham 2 with Router and had interfaced Dx4win over CAT1 and CWS over CAT2
using different com ports for each, and it worked. Later, when I added the G11
SDR controlled by the GSDR (PowerSDR console derivative), I used the DDUtil
utility and virtual ports to interface dx4win and CWS with SDR used as RX-only
and set DDUtil to use FT1000MP as slave radio for TX-only, synchronised with
SDR/CWS frequency. But now, after purchasing the IC7610 for my home station,
having it controlled by ic4win application, I wanted to re-use my FT1000MP in
my summer QRA south of France, without any additional hardware and control it
just by DX4WIN and CWS applications. This was the main reason of asking a
question. I have sold my Microkeyer 2 and replaced it with the MK3 connected to
the new IC7610 Rig, and do not want to make extra expenses for additional h/w
for my summer installation. If Paul wanted to add OmniRig to dx4win, all would
have been much easier..Now it seems I'l have to forget using CWS or use OmniRig
compatible logger for this site..

BUT
You need to have a interface from microKEYER like DXP-MKII-MKIII- MK2R+, USBII
etc
In the Device router software you can set for example com1 to your radio (CAT).
and also com2 to your rig (2nd CAT).
In dx4win you can select com1 or com2 for your rig and in CW Skimmer also
But they should not be equal in both programs,
DX4WIN = com1, CWskimmer = com2
Or
DX4WIN = com2, CWskimmer = com1
Ft1000mp I had long time ago and can confirm that it worked this way also.

Btw over the years I tried out many different software serial splitters, serial
bridges etc
But didn't found any that was 100% fool prove working.

 Hi,

Having read most, most likely all, messages I want to share some of my
thoughts.

1. Automatic uploads, possibly one QSO at a time, is not in my plans. My
main reason is that I expect that it requires more support than I'm willing
to provide. If something goes wrong, they call or write me while it may
have nothing to do with DX4WIN. Think about issues with certificate
changes, server not responsive etc. I simply do not have the time or
desire to add this to my support load. Using an ADIF file is a nice
separation between DX4WIN and other applications processing such file.

Note that I get plenty of emails regarding lost or misplaced license files
etc.
A number of users do not like to use the reflector for a support question,
so
I field those.

2. Interfacing with other applications UDP
Have to admit, that so far I have not found out how to do this. I would
like to
support such an interface.

Jim, AD1C, provides great support maintaining the country database, the
custom awards etc etc. He also helps users that ask him for help. I also
want to recognize the users of the reflector who are willing to put in
their
time to help other users.

I think some of you have the wrong idea about the company behind
DX4WIN. It is literally a one-man show. I'm retired and I'm glad to have a
reasonable retirement income. Income from DX4WIN is nice but it does
not feed the family!

Stay Safe

[Dx4win] MicroHAM MK3/Router and Win4icom Suite

2020-02-04 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ via DX4WIN

Hi Joe,I am trying to make my IC7610 work with the very powerful win4icom
Suite, which can control all functions of the Radio, have Spectrum/Waterfaii
display,  DX cluster and can handle up to 6 applications that control the radio
without conflict (like the DDUtil I was using before with my old SDR G11 RX).
Suite controls IC7610 via it's USB CAT port at 115200 bps

When dx4win is used alone via the suite, configured following Suite's User
Manual, everything is OK, frequencies/mods are controlled both by dx4win and
the Suite. Idem when the CW Skimmer is used in the suite without DX4WIN opened.
But if both are activated in the Suite, then Dx4Win loses contact avec radio
and the Suite gets frozen.
DX4win in Suite, OK; Start CWS out ofSuite, com1/19200 (Router CAT to CI-V):
CWS reads and controls radio, but DX4Wand suite frequencies do not follow and
stay blocked on freq’s before CWS start. So, can’t use CWS when DX4W is in Suite.

Running CWS within the Suite and dx4win not started is OK, CWS can control vfoA
and B radio frequencies via the Suite. But as soon as dx4win is started (out of
Suite), everything is screwed-up.
I suspect it happens because Router continues to poll the radio over it's CAT-V
port, while DX4WiN and CWS try to control radio via USB port, but I am not 100%
sure of it.
So, I'd like to test if it may work by checking "Disable router queries" in
Routers Radio window, but there is a warning that MicroHAM support should be
contacted before checking it.
Second possibility would be to exit Router, but then what would  happen with
Eltima virtual ports used to connect dx4win and CWS to the Suite. Also, it
would disable other MK3 features.
Third possibility is to unplug the MK3 USB cable from the PC and keep router
running, with or without the Disable router queries checkbox...Maybe this would
allow both apps to work together via the Suite.
Tom, VA2FSQ, the Author of the router has tested dx4win and CWS in the Suite,
and they work fine together. Yes, but without the MicroKeyer, Router and all
controls go via radio USB CI-V activated port.
So, Joe, would you please let me know your opinion on all above in view of
keeping the  MK3 and it's offered features (CW keying, memory, a.f. routing
etc..).
The last, independent question: is it normal that the MK3 LED a.f control
display goes black after some time??
Best 73 and thanks in advance,
Radi f6gnz

Re: [Dx4win] Adding CWSkimmer to DX4WIN.TCP

2020-02-03 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ via DX4WIN
Guy, thanks. I found the dx4win.tcp  file in dx4win SAVE folder and clicking
on Open there was no choice of apps to open it. Win10 ignored that TCP
filecould be opened with the Notepad! So, I made a try, started Notepad,
selected dx4win.tcp and could add the line:
SKIMMER>Skimmer,localhost:7301
So, next time I activated cluster window, Skimmer was there , I could select it
and the spots were inserted on the spot list and on the Bandmap! (I changed
default CWS port from 7300 to 7301 as 7300 was used by the CC User cluster).
So, thanks for an offer, but not needed now.
It would be fine if somebody could advise Microsoft to add all on-PC available
and compatible applications to the list shown when one makes click on Open
(file). And as an exemple, state the TCP files that can be opened with the
Notepad!

Re: [Dx4win] World Map won'open

2020-01-03 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ via DX4WIN
 Hi Jim and Tim,
I've got it working!Started Win 0 Properties/Display and moved laptop above
large screen display. Click on Apply, and myWorld Map was there in the Laptop
screen. Then dragged map to the main Large screen, resized it . Then In Win10
Display properties brought Laptop screen again left of the Large screen,
applied and then moved all DX4WIN windows back to the Laptop screen where I
wish to use it. Then after adjusting size of all dx4w windows, clicked on
Refresh and now all is as I wanted!

Re: [Dx4win] Anyone using the rotor interface to a Yaesu G-1000DXA?

2018-10-18 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ via DX4WIN
 Hi Lee,
I have been using ERC controller with my Yaesu G-2800SDX and DX4WIN 8.05 for
many years, without any problem. Rotor control in DX4WIN is Hygn DCU1 with
message handshake ThunderformARSWIN selected. F11 DX4WIN command starts rotor
slowly, it increases the speed and at the end slows down.I have not set overlap
limit, but think it is programmable in ERC config. Manual ERC control works
also perfectly. Before ERC I used the EA4TX interface, but as it was using the
paralel printer port, no more available on my new laptop, I installed the old
version  RS232 ERC and connected it to the USB port via the FTDI USB/RS232
interface. The new ERC controller doesn't need RS232 to USB interface and it
connects directly to the PC USB port. I do not think I would need to change ERC
for anything new as it performs perfectly. If I change it one day , it will be
again ERC but now the new ERC-mini which has the USB interface built-in.
Hope this info could be helpful to you.

I am considering getting this rotor.  Is anyone using one with DX4WIN (9.0x).

Questions:
What interface do you use to control the rotor (Eg. Easy-Rotor-Control,Rotor
Card,etc)?
        Does the interface work well?
        If you use the ERC,
does DX4WIN take advantage of the "start slow, then speed up in mid
turn, then slow down at the end"
Would you get the same interface again or has something "better" become
available?

As for the rotor itself, has it worked well for you?  How long?

Does the manual controller work well?

Is there a way to restrict the range to only 360 degrees (temporarily)?
I would like to use rotor sooner than later but can't replace the coax
yet (to allow for the 450 degree rotation.
Don't want to break something while turning too far!

Thanks for any feed back.

did not hear anything. After this, I wanted to close DX4WIN to open Fldigi
and got a message asking me do I want to save QSO. In a hurry, I said NO and
DX4WIN closed without saving the previous 14 and 18 MHz 3b7a QSOs! When I
realised what happened, it was too late!

QSOs that have been entered after the last log saving!

DX4WIN already has this feature!  Look for the word "Modified" in the top of
main DX4WIN window after you log a QSO.  Timer starts.  For the first two
minutes, the timer is RED and the QSOs are not saved yet.
After two minutes, the word "Modified" turns BLACK and the new QSOs are
saved in a temporary log file.

In your DX4W### (i.e. DX4W805 or DX4W903) directory -- NOT the SAVE
directory), there should be a couple of files with names like:

    DX4WIN.DXB
    DX4WIN.~XB

These are the backup files created when the log has not been saved for the
last two minutes (120 seconds).  See if those files are there.
You will have to copy or renamem them to .DXL so DX4WIN can open them.
They *may* have your missing QSOs.

[Dx4win] Info on 9.0.3 version

2018-02-17 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ via DX4WIN
Hi,I've been DX4WIN user since the start and am now using v. 8.0.5 which still
gives me the satisfaction. I am waiting new versions to stabilise before
upgrading, but have an important question about demand that was made previously
by several users:
Is now in the list of supported radios OmniRig included ??? If yes, FB, as it
would allow simultaneous use of DX4WIN and CW Skimmer or some other apps
needing to control the same radio.
IF not, user has to add different routers like LPBridge, LPB2, DDUtil, but
these have their limitations (LPB2 incompatible w. Icom protocol, DDUtil only
for Flex/Kenwood protocols...

Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN Data Updater v. 9.3 released

2017-02-15 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ via DX4WIN
Jim,Waiting the new updater version to stabilize, I did not install either 9.0,
9.1 nor 9.2. Now, I uninstalled the old version 8 and installed the new 9.3 in
8.05 folder.. After install, it started correctly and updated files. But after
exiting and trying to run it again, the error VCRUNTIME140.dll missing
popped-up. I went to MS site, installed the recommended version x86.exe and all
works FB!

I have released version 9.3 of the DX4WIN Data Updater:

    http://dx4win.ad1c.us/updater/

This version fixes two problems from 9.1:

- the Updater not updating properly (i.e. removing itself instead of updating)
- the Updater prompting to update immediately after installing the
latest version

The latter problem was due to a 1-second time difference between the
version installed on your computer, and the one uploaded to the web
site.  I do not know where this time difference is coming from (it may
be a rounding error).  But the program now ignores any "new" version
with a timestamp within 60 seconds of your current version.

I have also *removed* version 9.2 from the web site (except for the
release notes).

IMPORTANT:

Please uninstall any version(s) of DX4WIN Data Updater you may have
installed on your Windows system.  Then download and install version
9.3 from this link:

    http://dx4win.ad1c.us/updater/index.html#history

Make sure to follow the installation instructions to install it in the
correct directory:

    http://dx4win.ad1c.us/updater/index.html#install

You must have the Microsoft Visual C++ run-time library installed.
Instructions are here:

    http://dx4win.ad1c.us/updater/index.html#quick_start

If you had already installed version 9.0, 9.1 or 9.2, then the library is
most likely already installed.

Your update settings should have been preserved through the
uninstall/reinstall, but make sure to check them before performing
your first update.

If you have any problems, first consult the instructions here:

    http://dx4win.ad1c.us/updater/

If you can't find the answer, then let me know.

Re: [Dx4win] New upgrade feature involving Skimmer

2017-01-30 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ via DX4WIN
Hi Ricardo,Thanks for the message. I know this and am also using the VE7CC
cluster and also had interfaced it with the Skimmer. But, it doesn't do what is
needed in case of a contest or crowded band, when the cluster spots window (and
the band-spots windows) gets almost ful and holds callsigns for some time even
if they are not momentarily active. So, in these situations, the only reliable
operation can be achieved by looking at the Skimmer window and clicking on
wanted callsign that just appeared and went to RX. In this case, the callsign
is not written into DX4WIN and must be done manually, what is a big lost of
time. Alex says Skimmer sends the click info that could be used by logger and
some loggers use it to populate the callsign field, but DX4WIN doesn't

Telnet to DX4WIN local cluster and click on the callsign on the Cluster window,
not at all practical for real-time use when wanting to answer just appearing
station shown on the Skimmer box.I asked Alex VE3NEA if he could do something
about it. Here is my question and his response:
"Responding  to a station  in real time when just seen and clicked on the
Skimmer window should at the  same time automatically enter the call in the
logger  (in my case DX4WIN), providing that logger's cluster is already
connected to the Skimmer's telnet port. This would allow fast
contesting/logging.
As it is now, one has to click on the spot transferred from Skimmer Telnet port
to the logger cluster port, what is not very convenient for real time
operation, like contests, when the band cluster display gets over- crowded."
Alex answered:"CW Skimmer notifies the connected programs of the mouse clicks
on the calls. Some loggers make use of these notifications, some
don't. If DX4WIN doesn't, please bring its author's attention to this.

[Dx4win] DX4WIN losing rotor contgrol USB

2017-01-23 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ via DX4WIN
Hi,
Happened several times to me, sometimes because of RF feedback , sometimes for
other reasons: Rotor control USB stops working, I reset it by plugging in and
out the USB plug and must close and restart DX4WIN to have it active again.
Maybe in the next DX4WIN update (if it happens), it would be nice to have
DX4WIN automatically re-check the USB ports if they get "lost".
One more idea fro Upgrade: have program to send email/SMS upon appearance on
the Cluster of one of the prefixes entered in the "callsign alert" box !

 Hi Folks,

I'm considering re-writing the DX4WIN Data Updater (porting from Perl
to C/C++).  The main reason is to reduce the program (file) size from
approx 5MB to something under 300KB (about 6% of the original size),
as well as making it easier to debug.  I'll be cleaning up a lot of
the code, and removing some features that I never finished or that
never worked right.  I'll change it so that a failed download (like
eQSL) won't stop the update process to wait for user input before it
can continue.  Plus, I can use a free compiler to build the program.

Is anyone using any of the following features in the Updater?  If not,
then I will not implement them in the new version.

    http://dx4win.ad1c.us/updater/index.html#options

–prompt : ask before updating each file

–auto : run Updater Program without graphical interface

keep-alive functionality.  I have never thought this worked very well,
the VE7CC user program does a much better job of this.

I'm considering adding the options described at the URL above as some
sort of configuration menu  that you can access from within the
program, but that's a low-priority item right now.  Getting the
existing functionality working again is most important.

Here is a screenshot of what the new Updater may look like, subject to
change, of course.

    http://dx4win.ad1c.us/new_updater.png

I may have trouble supporting Windows XP, but Windows Vista and later
should be fine.  If this is a deal-breaker for you, let me know.

If there are new features you want, please let me know and I'll try to
implement them.  One new feature I want to add is a "Reset" button
that removes all the downloaded files from the UPDATE directory.  This
will force the Updater to download all the latest files if things get
out-of-sync.

Support for ARRL National Parks on the Air (NPOTA) will be left in for
the time being, but be disabled.  The framework I created (i.e.
sub-menus for Calendar and Membership Lists) is useful for adding
similar features.

Please do not ask me when it will be ready.

a solution which I wish to share with anybody interested:

I kept SDR RX controlled by DX4WIN and Skimmer via RCP1 and RCP2 of DDUtil, but
instead of controlling 1000MP from the "slave radio" port of DDUtil, I have
installed the DXLab's Commander and W3OA's Skimmer-to-Commander. I programmed
Commander to control the FT1000MP via CAT1 port of the microHAM Router, and
connected Skimmer-to Commander to Skimmer's Telnet Localport 701 (which was
programmed in Skimmer's Telnet Tab, where also the "allow skimmer commands" was
checked).
Now, in Telnet-to-Commander window, I can select whether the click on Skimmer's
frequency sets vfoA or vfoB of the 1000MP, so I can now permanently listen
DX-ped frequency on Main RX vfoA and transmit on any QSX frequency selected on
Skimmer via vfoB of the 1000MP ! The Commander and StC can be then left hidden
on the Taskbar!
Hope this may be useful for others.

Brian,Congrats on your new  PC. Download dx4win and install under c:/ , not
under program files. Put your license key to same folde when is the program.
Copy your entire save directory content into the new save folder. This should
bring you all necessary data. Then install and run the Jim's updater.

transferring my DX4WIN program to the new computer. I just want to make sure I

Do I download a new DX4WIN program from the website onto my new computer, then
just transfer over the couple of data files. My log file and the license key.
Or is there another way of doing this that is more complete? I've heard "talk"

Also once on the new computer, and get Jim's Updater program loaded, when I
update the program files, that should bring me 100% to where I need to be to
start using the program again on the new computer and using a registered

Then after I have the basic logging program running, I'll need to figure out
transferring LoTW to a new computer. But first thing first...

[Dx4win] Another wish for the next release

2016-02-27 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ via DX4WIN
Paul, please check also a possibility for DX4WIN to be able to simultaneously
connect to at least two telnet nodes, for ex. any remote DX Cluster node plus a
local telnet port for CW Skimmer.
This would avoid using additional third-party programs to achieve it.
And:After so long time since your home QSY, we have been all waiting and very
curious to get a list of the additional features you have selected to implement
in the next release and to know when approximately you intend to publish a next
release. Or, maybe you prefer to keep all of this for a surprise :) !

Re: [Dx4win] CC User Config question

2016-02-24 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ via DX4WIN
Hi Jim,Thanks for the info. Just finished testing and here is the result that I
am also posting to the CC User Yahoo Group under my initial question:
I installed CC User and updated to the v.3.0241 after some small problems
(during v3 update download and "Continue" the message to close app was hidden,
resulting in error message "Permission denied". Closing CC User and resuming,
upgrade went OK).

After configuring User, Bands and two Telnet Connections, one to ve7cc-1 and
another to my local CW skimmer port 7301 (edited CC User cluster list and added
my Skimmer localhost port 7301), in the CC User window I started receiving
spots both from ve7cc-1 and from my local CW Skimmer.

To link spots to my logging program DX4WIN, in CC User clicked on
Config-Ports/Logging Program and in Ports setup under Logging Program
Connection checked "enable Telnet" and use port 7300. In DX4WIN I selected as
Cluster " Local>CC User:7300", and:

ALL WORKS UFB AS DESIRED!

I am getting remote and skimmer spots in my logger's BandMap, by clicking on
them I setup my radio band/frequency/mode, populate logging window with
selected callsign, and Skimmer starts skimming the new band frequencies!
 " I'm hapy again..."
So, I have followed your instructions and all went perfectly. The only regret I
have, is that DX4WIN has not implemented VE3NEA's Band Master instead of the
built-in BandMap, as the spots in the BandMap  get overcrowded , impossible to
see on which frequency they are, while the Band Master has a possibility to
stretch a wanted portion of the band with mouse wheel, to make spots and
related frequencies easily distinguished. But, one can't have everything...
Best 73 and thanks again for your friendly support,

"Cluster" is the node you normally connect to.  If someone tries to
send you mail, or TALK to you, that is the destination to where the
talk/message is usually routed.  Think of it as your Home Node.  But
when you log in, that node is usually broadcast around the network
anyway.

Mail is almost non-existent nowadays, and people use ANNOUNCE and
broadcast to everyone instead of TALK.  It's not that important.

[Dx4win] CW Skimmer with DX4WIN

2016-02-22 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ via DX4WIN
Has anybody figured-out how to integrate CW skimmer telnet spots along with
DX4WIN Cluster spots?
As of now, Skimmer spots can be integrated in DX4WIN Band-Map by selecting
"CCuser, localhost:7300", but then only the single-band spots coming from the
Skimmer are available.
It would be desirable to continue receiving DX cluster spots on other bands,
select these bands and then automatically have Skimmer spots on the selected
band.
There is always a possibility (via DDUtil) to have Skimmer spots separate and
have the radio switch to their frequency after a mouse click, but in this case
the spotted callsign would not be inserted into DX4WIN log window !
Any solutions?

Re: [Dx4win] Group filter/selection

2016-02-21 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ via DX4WIN
Hi John,
Now, all is perfectly clear! I followed your procedure and it worked perfectly.
I could even check it by creating a new DX4WIN log and importing the created
ADIF log: the new log contained only the selection! I uploaded Clublog.adif to
Clublog and it worked flawlessly.

So, thanks you again and I hope to have a QSO with you in a near future on one
of the bands.
I am sending a copy of this to DX4WIN Reflector so that it will close my case
and help to others who might have had same misunderstanding as myself.

Hi Radi,  Ok here goes. If you create a selection filter and then save the log
you will save the whole log.  It does not matter if you save it as F6GNZ or
CLUBLOG your going to have all QSO's.  So both files will contain all QSO's and
they will both have available the selection filter that you made.  To create a
new log with some groups removed you need to do it differently but you don't
need to do that for what you are wanting to do.   To sum up.  Saving a log with
a selection filter will not filter QSO's.  Exporting a log with a selection
filter will filter QSO's   Here is how I export QSO's to upload to Clublog.  In
my log which is called ZL1BYZ.DXL I choose the selection filter that I have
made to give me a selection of only QSO's I want to upload, then with that
selection filter ON I go to the File menu and choose Import/Export and export
as ADIF.  I save the file as ZL1BYZ.ADIF to my Desktop. At the end of the
export a window will tell you how many QSO have been exported, it will match
your selection filter.   Then I go back and turn OFF the selection filter.  Now
my log is ready for new QSO's, nothing has been changed.  To complete the
clublog upload I go to Clublog and go through the upload process choosing the
ZL1BYZ.ADIF file I just created on my desktop. The next time I want to upload
some more QSO's to Clublog I do the same process overwriting the ZL1BYZ.ADIF
file on my desktop with the new QSO's.  It becomes a simple safe process.  Your
main log stays in the same place and is unaffected by the Clublog upload and
you have an ADIF file on your desktop which you update using the selection
filter and Export adif process before you do a Clublog upload.   Finally when
ever you are doing some work on your log that you are not sure the result is
going to be what you want.  MAKE A BACKUP FIRST  Do this with your computer's
file management tools (Windows Explorer?) not within DX4WIN using save or save
as.  That is the quickest route to confusion and loosing QSO's. Hope that helps

11988 selected QSO's, but whether I save it just by clicking on Save or Save as

Hi John,
You are 100% right: I tried and it works! Thanks!
I was always afraid to just "save" it (under the source name)  after creating
the selection and seeing that the number of QSOs listed after selection has

different, shortened version containing only selected groups. It is a pity that

Turn it off and all the QSO's are back again. If you don't believe me, try
this.  Make a backup of your log and put it somewhere safe then make a note of
how many QSO's are in the log, now make your filter selection click OK then
when you go back to the log entry window save the log.  Now go back and cancel
the filter selection then go back to your log and count the QSO's believe me
they will all be there I know because I do this every day and have never lost a

Opened f6gnz log containing all QSO's - Filter -> selection - Add->Replace this
name->Clublog - 2 clicks on each of 3 group names
 - Update -OK -Save log as Clublog, logging window now shows Clublog instead of
f6gnz

Clublog
 - Start f6gnz -Filter-> selection: Clublog NOT in pull down list
 -Close F6GNZ, Open Clublog - Filter->Selection - Clublog in pull-down list

 Conclusion:
PREVIOUS (multiple group)  SELECTION NAMES  CAN BE RECALLED IN PULL-DOWN LIST
ONLY AFTER OPENING THE LOG CONTAINING  PREVIOUSLY SELECTED GROUPS. BUT THIS HAS
NO USEFULNESS!
SELECTION NAMES  PREVIOUSLY CREATED FROM THE MAIN LOG (all QSO's), CONTAINING
MULTIPLE GROUP NAMES, SHOULD BE AVAILABLE  IN PULL-DOWN LIST WHEN OPENING THIS
MAIN LOG, AFTER HAVING MADE NEW QSO's. THIS WOULD ALLOW PREVIOUS SELECTION'S
UPDATE,  CONTAINING NEW QSO's MAKING PART OF THIS LOG, WITHOUT NEED TO RUN
THROUGH NEW FILTER CREATION AND SELECTION PROCEDURE!

SAVING THIS NEW LOG UNDER A NEW OR SAME NAME AS THE ONE CONTAINING PREVIOUS

Hi Jim,
Thanks for your comment and suggestion. Unfortunately, it would make things
even more complicated as I would need to make several templates...Because,
starting with my log containing all QSOs and many different groups (/P from
different locations, /M, /F), /FG, QRP, ...) , I need periodically to generate
several different  logs, for exporting to Clublog, for BV7 home qso QSLs, for
BV7 portable QSOs QSLs from different locations, etc..
That's why I hoped that within my "all QSOs" log, I could create several group
names, each containing two or more groups, and have them memorized once for
ever (deletion and additions being always possible).
So, after having added QSOs to the main log, I could just open this log, scroll
through created selection names, select one of them, click Update and OK, and
this would result in a log with the same selection name but containing
additional QSOs within that name. Then I could save and export the updated log
as adif to Clublog update/append or replace, BV7 etc...
Anyway, it's not so very critical, I will just need to re-create same names
again and again each time I want to feed Clublog or BV7. It will not kill me,
but I just thought it could be much more practical to get it done only once...

 Hi Radi,

Both group numbers and group selections are store in the .DXL (log)
file.  So when you open a new log, you will not have those available

You can create a log template.  Open a log that has the group numbers
and selections in it.  Delete ALL the QSOs using Multiple QSO
Operations.  Then save the resulting log file with a new name, i.e.
TEMPLATE.  When you want to start a new log with the "default" group
numbers and selections, open the TEMPLATE, then save under a new name.

Hi John,I was intrigued by your conclusion, so  I have tried again:- Opened
f6gnz log containing all QSO's- Filter -> selection- Add->Replace this
name->Clublog- 2 clicks on each of 3 group names
- Update-OK-Save log as Clublog, logging window now shows Clublog instead of
f6gnz
-Filter-> selection- Found Clublog in pull-down list-Update->OK> Save Clublog
- Start f6gnz-Filter-> selection: Clublog NOT in pull down list
-Close F6GNZ, Open Clublog- Filter->Selection- Clublog in pull-down list

SELECTION, WOULD PERMIT TO HAVE  UPDATED LOG EACH TIME IT IS NEEDED.
Thank you for triggering my curiosity!

Well it does work.  Once you have setup and saved a group selection and or

Hi John,

This is exactly what I wanted to say: I do  NOT find my previous selection
at the end of the drop-down list nor anywhere in it, as if I had never made
any selection! Only the selections that reflect the group names are
available+ All (00) !

When you bring up the selection editor window, at the top it says current
selection then just below that is a box which probably says All QSOs, at the
right end of that box there is an arrow pointing down.  If you click on that
arrow a list should drop down with all your previously made selection
filters.  Do you find the selection filter you had previously made in that
list? I am hoping it is as then you just select it from there and click ok.
When you don't want that selection you go back and select all QSOs again.
Does this help?

[Dx4win] Future release features

2016-02-18 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ via DX4WIN
Hi Paul,
I suppose you are working on the next release of DX4WIN as you've told us some
time ago, so would you please add a very useful feature:
Enable simultaneous connection to the Local Host (port 7300) fo0r CW Skimmer
and to any other remote Cluster on the list, and have the spots from two merged
on the Band Map.
Just for reminder: in Contest mode enabled, have dupes indicated in red not
only in the logging window, but also in the Band Map.
I guess we all would appreciate if you come back and let us know the status of
your development on the new release, and if possible the new  features you have
selected for implementation.

[Dx4win] Cluster/BandMap with both Telnet and Remote Connections

Hi,Is there a way to merge both Local Telnet spots coming from CW Skimmer and
spots coming from remote Clusters?

While listening on one band and having the CW Skimmer spots, it would be fine

I did log all paper QSOs using Fast Log Entry by DF3CB which makes the
task very fast and easy. After typing a given period you have to
generate an ADIF file then import it from the DX4WIN. The nice side of
typing, despite of being a little tedious, is that I did find several
new band countries, most of them deleted ones, that I didn't know that I
had. By the way I don't know any OCR smart enough to understand
callsigns, if some one find one please let me know, I'd love to try it.

I had also problems with clusters in the past. Clusters' connection braked
after some time. I used VE7CC's client program which has a function to keep the
connection alive. Dx4win was connected on this program and I could watch the
spots. After a lot of time I  found that it was a problem in my adsl
router/modem as when I changed this, I can connect to the clusters directly
without a problem. I don' t know if this is your problem but just in case.

By the way it would be very good for all of us to use the ve7cc program.
If I made a logging program right now from scratch, I wouldn't include a
cluster interface but just a connection to ve7cc (beside this I wouldn't make a
rig control routine also but just a connection to omnirig). My problem with
ve7cc, is that many times I get bored to run another program and make the
connection routine also. A nice solution would be if a future version of dx4win
has an option to run ve7cc and connect to it automatically. Maybe there is an
external program do this. Any info?

There are many USB to parallel cables on eBay. Most of them work OK. HOWEVER:
with most laptops some printers have problem printing as the laptop USB current

[Dx4win] No MK1: no more VOX PTT: please HELP!

2015-09-11 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ via DX4WIN
I brought my IC706 with MK1 keyer and Drake L7 linear  to my summer location
and found out something strange: with my PC/uRouter or without the PC , MK1
keys linear on CW without problems, amd the PTT1.2  MK1 LED goes red during
keying.
BUT, on phone (SSB or FM) with my IC elecret Heil headset microphone connected
to the rear jack of MK1, in VOX mode, speaking into the microphone keys and
modulates the IC706 perfectly , but MK1 doesn't activate the PTT of the linear
(PTT1/PTT2 led on MK1 doesn't go on either). Audio switching ACA is used on
voice. On CW, all OK PTT1/2 LED go ON and linear is keyed. So , the only way to
use Heil mic is to connect IC706 palm mic to the MK1 rear connector and use its
PTT while speaking into the Heil mic!!!

I suspect that there should be a VOX gain control for MK1 PTT somewhere, but
without a circuit diagram I can not find out where it may be.

Please help!

After starting DX4WIN, K3 frequency is correctly shown and followed. Opening

PROBLEM:
- no PTT on K3 with different DX4WIN PSK31 and DX4WIN Preferences

- tried to key via VOX activated on K3: no PTT either
- forced K3 on TX via push-button: no TX modulation on transmit (TX AF is
supposed to modulate K3 via one of RS232 input pins; maybe VOX doesn't trigger

I will try to help Antoine via phone (I had never used any K3 radio and do not

[Dx4win] Holding callsign dependent data

2015-05-20 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ via DX4WIN
Hi Paul,

As it seems you may be working on an update of dx4win, I would ask you to
re-consider my previous sugestion: during a pile-up type contacts when a
correspondent's callsign was not received completely or received in error, and
the correspondent's data like qra locator, iota number, name and qth are
received and entered in the log, all this data dissapears after a correction to
a callsign is done!

Please find a way to keep this data until the validation of the callsign or qso
save command. Otherwise one has to keep this data in his head or note them down
on paper in paralel with logging and making a qso!

I think this is a very reasonable request.

2015-04-04 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ via DX4WIN
Hi Dan,Superb!  I see I could use directly  the USB OTA adapter
cable+RS232/CI-V adapters  or the WiFi Piglet to control the FT817/IC706  rigs
via the HamLog on my Android Tab. Unfortunately I can't also use my microHAM
MK1 keyer to have CW keyer and memories at the same time. Hope microHAM will
develop the USB router application for Android one day so that one doesn't have
to carry a bulky Windows laptop to control these small radios!
Thanks again for link to the Pignology Web page!

Hi Paul,

As many of HAMS already have android based tabs/smartphones, it may be very
useful to consider porting some basic DX4WIN features (logging, spots, rig
control) into the Android OS environment. It would be great for portable
operations with small rigs like FT817. IC706 etc , thus avoiding to carry
the bulky PC (hated by XYL-s :) ! ).
Any thoughts on this?

 Hi Folks,

Three people (so far) have reported problems to me when running the
DX4WIN Data Updater.  The usual symptom is that the updater seems to
install fine, but when trying to run it, nothing happens.  I have been
unable to duplicate this problem on three computers that I use
regularly.

Based on the info one person sent me, an error can occur when checking
to see if DX4WIN is already running, at least on a Windows Vista
system.  This happens if a certain DLL is missing.  I do not know if
the same problem is affecting everyone, as at least one person is
running Windows 7.  I have created a test version of the updater and
am waiting for some feedback to see if the problem is fixed.  This may
not be the only problem, however.

Hopefully I'll get to the bottom of this soon.

Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN + SSDR/SCat

2014-05-25 Thread Radivoj Kar, F6GNZ via DX4WIN
Hi Duane,
I am not sure if it works with the new Flex-6500, but I am using DX4WIN
configured for Flexradio in the Preferences, address 00, 57600 bps, 800ms
polling, DTR ON and it works fine with my Genesis G11 SDR controlled with the
Power-SDR compatible software GSDR. You have to create a virtual com port pair
using VSP Manager or some other software, and allocate one end of the pair to
the SmartSDR CAT and another to Flexradio in DX4WIN.

There is also an UFB program called DDUtil  on
http://k5fr.com/DDUtilV3wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page

which offers many superb functions and controls  for Flex radios:
* Provides radio frequency, mode and many other radio states to RCP
clients.
* Allows remote control of many hardware devices using BCD, RS232,
TCP/IP, I2C:
* Amplifiers (Acom, Alpha, KPA-500, SPE)
* Antenna Controllers (SteppIR)
* Antenna Rotators (Alpha Spid, Green Heron, Hy/Gain/EZ, M2, Prosistel,
Yaesu)
* Antenna Tuners (KAT500, PalStar AT-Auto)
* Band Switches (many)
* Flex Control Knob
* Preselector (Heros SCR Cat)
* Watt Meters (Alpha 4500, Elecraft W2, LP-100(a), Power Master, Wave
Node W2)
* Macro Command Interpreter
* Automatic Drive Control for Amplifiers
etc.

I am using this program to synchronize my FT1000MP as TX,  controlled by the
MicroHAM2 keyer,   with the SDR as RX, and it works really great!

Paul has responded following concerning the Omnirig:

6. OmniRig: Has evaluated to a powerful system, using text files to
describe the interface similar to what DX4WIN does. The problem for me is
that OmniRig is event driven, DX4WIN polls the radio.

I am not sure if it means there would be a problem to do it, and it would not
be done for that reason.

But. looking in the OmniRig's configuration window, there are well a polling
time and time-outs specified, like in DX4WIN. Running the OmniRig's Client.exe
program one can see that Omnirig polls the radio and changing the
frequencies/modes on the rig are well reflected in the Client.exe window. But
I may have not well interpreted what Paul exactly meant with OmniRig is event
driven

Hi Radi,

I am going to take a stab at this...

There are generally two ways to get data.  One is the PULL model,
where you continually ask the source if new data is available.  When
the data finally changes from the last time you asked, you do
something with it.  This is the same as POLLING.  It's like being
blind, and having to ask the person next to you if the score in the
football match has changed yet.  When it does change, you stand up and
cheer.  Depending on how often you ask, it could be minutes after the
goal before you stand up and cheer.

The other is the PUSH model.  The source of the data only sends it to
you when it changes.  It doesn't have ears, only a mouth, so it can't
respond to queries.  Like the scoreboard at a football match.  DX4WIN
would just sit and wait for Omnirig to tell it the that the radio
changed.  This is known as event driven.

DX4WIN only knows how to ask for data, i.e. polling.  It doesn't know
what to do with data that is given to it without asking.

CAT1 and Omnirig/IC706 on CAT2). Unfortunately, there was no way to have DX4WIN
control the SDR RX, which would make this setup perfect.

Trying to do same with FT1000MP instead of IC706: many sync delays, MP timeouts
due to poliing conflicts which couldn't be handled by the old binary CAT
protocol of the MP.

Everything would have been better if DX4WIN had integrated OmniRig support !
