Re: [Elecraft] Where are the K4 reviews?
I agree with Dave, although unlike him, I have ordered a K4, on the "no deposit" plan, so I'm not out any money. Of course, no one is actually out of money, other than the opportunity cost, if they chose to bail out. I sympathize with Elecraft's plight, but issues have plagued everyone and one would think that a company that manufactures communication equipment would communicate with their customer base. Of course, they aren't expected to advertise every problem in their business activity, but frequent tidbits would keep the faithful happy. Frankly, I got tired of waiting and wondering, and wanting at least one new radio before I croak, bought a TS-890. Shortly after I did a fire in one of Kenwood's semiconductor suppliers plant stalled their deliveries. But they announced this, found a workaround and began deliveries again, albeit at a $500 price increase. Will I still buy a K4? I dunno but I'm still an Elecraft fan with a K3, K3S, Kpod, KPA500 and KAT500, the latter two work well with the Kenwood. Wes N7WS On 3/30/2021 4:37 PM, David Gilbert wrote: Uhh .. Re: [Elecraft] Where are the K4 reviews?
In my day job, working for a supplier of technology to a wide swath of consumer electronics manufacturers, I've observed over the past year major shifts in demand and the kinds of products people are buying. There have been surges in demand for some categories of products, and collapses in demand for other categories; all of which foil production and distribution plans which are normally designed to play-out of 18-36 months. There have been supply chain disruptions. There have been shipping and logistics disruptions. The disruptions go deep into almost every component and service you can imagine. Elecraft, or any small company building a niche product, who manages to stay solvent throughout all of this disruption is to be admired, even if their plans need to change radically. As for the perceived lack of communication: I can also understand their reluctance to say much when they have their own uncertainty about the future. About me: I'm happy to wait to order a K4 until they offer the kit. For me, it's a hobby, not my livelihood. Not true. You're wrong, and you're just trying to obfuscate the point. As I said, I don't have a K4 on order, but if I did have one on order and was given a clear projection that I could count on, at least I'd have what I needed to make an informed decision and I'd be satisfied with that. "Group 1, done by May" ?? Would be nice. I am not going to hold my breath. The few (2?), "I got a UPS package", were from orders entered the first day. Group 1 was not closed until Jan 2020?? "I Think" some of the communications from Elecraft are "hung up" with the Ferengi print from the online event keeping Elecraft from re-publishing any of the online event communication until the end of the 30 day "hold". If I was running the online event, I would want exclusive "use" of any publications for the full 30 days. So, 16? Apr... Yes, I could pay my $10 and see all the doc. I was unavailable during the actual event, so I didn't sign up at all. The last I looked, the KX3 is back ordered, too. I would not mind an additional 6 month delay, IF I was told it was because Elecraft was moving to TN so that they could save 10% over current cost/taxes in CA. I don't expect a move to happen. So, 60 days till the end of May, can they do it? I placed my Group 1 order a week or so before Thanksgiving 2019... 73, steve WB3LGC On 3/30/21 3:17 PM, John Stengrevics wrote: During the online event some weeks ago,*Eric said he expected to finish Group 1 by May. * 73, John WA1EAZ On Mar 30, 2021, at 2:51 PM, Steven Kline via Elecraft wrote: Paid in full here since last year and ordered June 2019, try rationalizing that with spouse. Re: [Elecraft] Where are the K4 reviews?
As the kids say, "cool story, bro." None of it changes the fact that lots of people have put out a lot of money with almost zero visibility into when they will get their product, and the K4 situation doesn't have the significantly leveraged upside that your story did. There isn't the same risk/reward ratio here that your example had. Apples and potatoes. There are lots of reasons why Elecraft could be granted some slack for major and repeated delays in shipping the K4, but the part I don't understand is the almost total absence of regular communication on the delivery status. It makes no sense at all. If Wayne can find the time to tell us about his latest pedestrian mobile contact he should be able to tell his investors where the company stands on actually producing the product that they paid for. I'm just an interested observer here since I haven't ordered a K4, but that doesn't change the fact that I sympathize with those who did. Paid in full here since last year and ordered June 2019, try rationalizing that with spouse. Down to my last TT Orion of two, barely keeping it on the air. Almost at point of needing to cancel and ask money be returned so I can get something else and keep operating. Seeing nothing, hearing nothing (not even from anyone receiving a K-4 - assuming some are shipping). Latter I don’t understand how anyone would allow themselves to be bound in secrecy. If occurring must be significant benefit for observing code of silence. I see no light at all inside the tunnel. I can’t imagine how it would feel to know that I had laid out $4k two years ago, and still be waiting for fulfillment. NO, actually I can.
