Isn't React ecmascript 4 based also?If so it will die a quick death when it
goes up against a real computer language based on Ecmascript 6 (plus)
It is so wonderful to see the death of the spaghetti code machine, should have
happened a lot sooner.It is the definition of how not to program.
Going to be fun watching all the javascript/Ajax weenies tackle a real computer
language :)An entire generation of programmers just got left on the beach and
its sink or swim Yahoo !

[flexcoders] flex multiple filter function using text input, combobox and date range

2015-12-03 Thread stinas...@yahoo.com [flexcoders]
Hello Guys, i have used multiple filter functions before but i have never used
one that involves a date range. I have an arraycollection with items (title,
entity and signature_date). i would like to filter the results of the array
collection based on those 3 fields of data.

 i want to have it in such a way that signature_date is filtered based on date
range, so on my UI i have a text input (id= titleSearch),
combobox(entitySearch) and 2 data fields (sDate and eDate).

 I can do a filter based on the text input and combobox, but i don't know how
to apply the date fields in the filter function.

 Can some please help guide me on this. Below is sample code

 /* start filtering ***/
 private var docTitle:String="title";
 private var selectedEntity:String="--- SELECT ENTITY ---";

 private function filterGrid():void
 {
 collectionAr.filterFunction=myFilterFunction;
 collectionAr.refresh();
 }

 private function myFilterFunction(item:Object):Boolean
 {
 return (item[docTitle].match(new RegExp(titleSearch.text, 'i'))) &&
(item.entity == selectedEntity || selectedEntity == "--- SELECT ENTITY ---");
 }

 private function titleChangeHandler(event:Event):void
 {
 if (titleSearch.text != '')
 {
 filterGrid();
 }
 else
 {
 filterReset()
 }

 docs.selectedIndex=0;
 }

 private function entityChangeHandler(event:Event):void
 {
 if (entitySearch.selectedItem != null)
 selectedEntity=entitySearch.selectedLabel;
 filterGrid();
 docs.selectedIndex=0;
 }

 private function filterReset():void
 {

 collectionAr.filterFunction=null;
 collectionAr.refresh();

 }

Hello, thanks for the response. i am already using a change listener on the
text input but when i start typing in the first textinput, i don't get the
desired result. its only when i type in both that the evnet kicks in.

Re: [flexcoders] flex calculation problem

2015-04-16 Thread Alex Harui aha...@adobe.com [flexcoders]
It could be that unless both text inputs contain strings that parse into
numbers you’ll get funky results like NaN for empty string.

[flexcoders] flex calculation problem

2015-04-15 Thread stinas...@yahoo.com [flexcoders]
Hello Guys, i have a small problem. i have this form where i calculated updated
balance based on data already available and data from 2 text inputs. the result
is correct but i would like that when someone types in one textinput the
balance is computed and then further if someone inputs a figure in the second
text input. below is the code i got as of now. It needs improvement.

 ?xml version=1.0 encoding=utf-8?

 layout=vertical
 horizontalAlign=center

 if (Number(amountPaid.text)  Number(currentPaid.text)  Number(manFees.text)
 Number(currentFees.text)){
 amt = Number(currentBal.text) - ((Number(amountPaid.text) -
Number(currentPaid.text)) + (Number(manFees.text) - Number(currentFees.text)))
 }

 balance.text=amt.toFixed(0);
 }

I'm not sure if you are aware, but using a form is a better choice. To answer
your question, use a change listener on the text input to achieve what you
need.

[flexcoders] Flex LCDs DMS DataService.commit() issue

2015-02-19 Thread kamran21...@gmail.com [flexcoders]
Jeff Vroom or anyone,
 I have a question regarding flex lcds dms, we are using custom assemblers with
relational destinations configured in our data-management xml, i have observed
that when we have create, update and deletes for a particular object on the
flex client side and when we execute dataService.commit(managedobject) by
passing managedItem , it triggers appropriate update, insert methods for
corresponding assembler but does not trigger deleteItem method, but when we
don't pass anything to commit() method it works fine. Do you happen to have any
insight on that. Please respond

 Thanks a lot

2015-01-05 Thread hey_sac...@yahoo.com [flexcoders]
Hi Guys,

 I am facing issue with auto complete feature where I have replaced
textInput.setSelection with textInput.selectRange and
textInput.selectionBeginIndex with textInput.selectionAnchorPosition as per
flex upgrade standard but it started strange behavior for combobox in
application. At runtime when I type text leike ABC into combobox it always
move cursor in the leftmost position and type in reverse order like CBA.

 Please provide some help if anyone experienced with the same issue or point me
any solution. It would be a great help.

     Hi Sachin,

Transition from 3.6 to 4.6 is not very complex nor its too easy what I mean to
say is that there are somethings that you need to consider while you are moving
to higher end versions of Flex SDK.

1. Flex 4 supports a spark skinning architecture which may sound complex for
anyone new to it , if you are largely depending upon css based
development/tweaking of your custom or native flex components then you it may
not help you alot though you can use css also but there are some components in
flex where css rules may not apply like Group/VGroup/HGroup as in skinning
where you have the full liberty to change the full UI of the built-in
components under Adobe's terms and conditions at the same time you may find it
quite complex in maintaining your skins if you have no prior knowledge of
skinning so I should recommend you that you should get some knowledge on it
first.

You might need to change or configure your themes accordingly like Halo , Spark
etc etc.

2.Regarding your service layer things may remain the same as they are currently
with your current SDK version you may have to change one or two things but
nothing very much is required at this end.

3. Data model will also not get much effected in transition but you will need
to be careful while using advance data components of Flex like Advanced Data
Grid OLAP datagrid.

4. Good support with backward compatibility and earlier versions of flex. Flex
4 supports full backward compatibility of your components you may only need to
change the Application tag of your project according new Flex 4 based and rest
is good to go.

5. Localization- this would almost remain same no special things required.

Note: These were a few things that I considered or encountered in my experience
while I was taking my product to higher level SDK in flex but these are not all
the things you may need to do some more Google on it. As these are some things
that are normally considered on first priority in transition phase but remember
they are not the all.

[flexcoders] Flex Mobile Apple Submission Issue

2013-06-20 Thread Jake Churchill
Guys,

I have a flex mobile app that has been on the appstore for a while and I
was just trying to submit a revision to it when I got this automated
response from apple:

*iPhone 5 Optimization Requirement* - Your binary is not optimized for
iPhone 5. As of May 1, all new iPhone apps and app updates submitted must
support the 4-inch display on iPhone 5. All apps must include a launch
image with the -568h size modifier immediately following the basename
portion of the launch image's filename. Launch images must be PNG files and
located at the top-level of your bundle, or provided within each .lproj
folder if you localize your launch images. Learn more about iPhone 5
support and app launch images by reviewing the iOS Human Interface

The only iconds I have specified are the different icon sizes in the

[flexcoders] Flex 4 application which uses Rotate component does not show in MAC OS Chrome

2013-03-08 Thread Myadi H
Hello,

I am facing a problem with MAC OS Chrome browser.
I have create an application with Rotate component in it. In all the browsers
it is executing except in this browser.

After googling I Found that there are 2 Flash plugins active. One is chrome's
default flash plug in and PepperFlashPlayer.plugin flash player of mac os.

If I disable either of the one, it works. But does't work when both are active.

Problem is We can't ask everyone to disable default chrome plugin.

Can anybody has faced such situation? Can anybody tell a workaround for this?

Thanks in advance.

[flexcoders] Flex 4.6 - Problem loading Flex SWF inside Flex App

2013-03-06 Thread Dave Glasser
I'm using a SWFLoader to load a Flex app -- I'll call it the child app - inside
my main Flex app. I've used tracing code on the server to prove that the child
app is being requested and served by the SWFLoader. What's happening, however,
is that a new instance of the main app is being created and displayed inside
the SWFLoader. It seems that the Flex initialization code is failing somewhere.
I have this code in the main app's mxml file:

      private function traceStack():Boolean {
          trace(Main.mxml.():  + new Error(TRACE).getStackTrace());
          return true;
  }

      private var b:Boolean = traceStack();

And the stacktraces that are logged in both the app's initial load and its
second loading from the embedding are identical:

Main.mxml.(): Error: TRACE

com.Company.web.app.main::Main/traceStack()[C:\dev\projects\web\src\com\Company\web\app\main\Main.mxml:65]

I should note that the embedding is a result of user action, and that's why
it's not an infinitely recursive thing. I tried loading the child app with a
mx:SWFLoader tag in the main mxml file, and the results were basically the
same, except the infinite recursion occurred.

Does anyone have a clue what might be going on here?

I should note that the embedding is a result of user action, and that's why
it's not an infinitely recursive thing. I tried loading the child app with a

same, except the infinite recursion occurred.

Does anyone have a clue what might be going on here?

Thank you very much. I struggled a day and a half with that, trying a thousand

I'm using a SWFLoader to load a Flex app -- I'll call it the child app -

There's an itemRenderer and itemEditor. If you want to use the same, you
say editable=true and there's another property rendererIsEditor=true (or
might be editorIsRenderer - I always get it mixed up)

Try that.

[flexcoders] Flex, BlazeDS, Spring BD Integration, Spring, Java In Tomcat Cluster.

2012-12-31 Thread raja_s_patil
Hello,

I have Flex, BlazeDS, Spring, java application working in Standalone
Tomcat Instance. For scalability we decided to test in Vertical
Cluster of three Tomcat Instances. Initially we tested a simple JSP
maintaining session attribute of counter in HAProxy,
Memcached-Session-Manager (MSM) and Couchbase-Server for session
replication and that test got passed.

Secondly we decided to Test the working Flex application in that
cluster. Initially Kryo serialization gave problems so we shifted
to java serialization and application could Load. But we started getting error

Detected duplicate HTTP-based FlexSessions, generally due to the remote host
disabling session cookies. Session cookies must be enabled to manage the client
connection correctly

I googled a lot for Clutering Flex-BlazeDS application howtos but could not
succeed. Can somebody help us in this situation.

we are using
Flex 4.6, BlazeDS 4.0, Spring BDS Integration 1.5.2, Spring 3.1.2,
Open JDK 1.6, Tomcat 7.0.29, on Ubuntu 12.04. HAproxy, Couchbase-server
installed from repository, MSM downloaded from its site and
configured according to wiki page for it.

Thanks and warm regards

[flexcoders] Flex Application expire's the user's session

2012-12-28 Thread anas naeem
Hi everyone out there hope all of you would be doing great.

I have 2 flex applications that use Flash Media Server to stream videos the
issue i am facing is described as follows.

One application is a player that is embeded into a website made in Php the
other application is a recorder that is embeded also in the same Php website
what happens is when the user logs into his account using a login page made in
php he/she see's the player after successful login and could play videos that
are pre-recorded and after logging into the website a session is maintained for
the user ,
now if lets say a user loaded the recorder or clicked a link on the page and
open's a url to record a video then as soon as the user open's that url for
recording the video the session of the user is expired and i am talking about
the same session which was maintained once the user was successfully logged in
and saw the player.
We removed the recorder from our php application and when we opened the same
url in which we have the recorder the session was not expired but when we again
added the recorder in the application the session was expired again i have
searched it alot on Google but i haven't got any fruitful solution to it.
One thing more to mention here is my both flex pps are accessing the same url
or the same server for recording or playing the videos which could be like
this.
Any help would be highly appreciated and please i have a deadline on coming
Monday any quick and helpful response would be highly appreciated.

Once again i request for quick and helpful response from the great flex coders

[flexcoders] Flex build error when using assets as RSL

2012-11-22 Thread Nitin Gopi
Hi All
Recently I converted all images inside the assets folder into separate swc. It
reduced the swf size of the application. I now refer the swc as RSL in the
build path. First time it worked. Then I tried to clean the project. The build
now fails showing the java heap error. I haven't been able to build the project
since then. To solve it I tried to restart the flashbuilder, changed the
linkage of the swc from RSL to merge into code, rebuilt the swc but no success.
The 'error log' shows error as mentioned below

The errors can be classified into 3 categories
(1) setAssetClassAttribute - Unable to get definition for class
GeneratedAsset11
(2) MESSAGE Exception in design view callback:null !
(3)An internal error occurred during: Build Project. !STACK 0
java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space

I had done something similar using bitmapData in Flex3 but now I want to handle

Re: [flexcoders] Flex Mobile Android 4 (ICS)

2012-07-03 Thread Jake Churchill
I found out what was happening. I had a global deactivate handler (I don't
want this particular app running in the background). Apparently, this gets
called by Android when switching orientation. The whole app de-activates,
then re-activates in a new orientation. So, handling that, fixed my
app disappearing issue. It was disappearing because I was killing it :)

Thanks for talking this through.

Let's compare really quick... I'm just listening for the orientationChange
event and switching states in my view accordingly. (Code below) Is that
basically how you handle it as well or are you doing something different?

I'm adding this event listener:

stage.addEventListener( StageOrientationEvent.ORIENTATION_CHANGE,
handleOrientationChange );

and here's the handler:

private function handleOrientationChange( event:StageOrientationEvent=null
):void
{
if( stage )
{
if( stage.orientation == rotatedLeft || stage.orientation ==
rotatedRight )
currentState = landscape;
else
currentState = portrait;
 this.invalidateDisplayList();
}
}

One other thing I tried. If I stop the autoOrient and manually flip my
orientation via code, the same thing happens. Usually when an app stops in
debug mode you get the [Unload SWF] trace line but I'm not getting that so
it makes me think it's just suspending it?

This is super frustrating though.

Re: [flexcoders] flex library project debug?

2012-06-15 Thread Kenneth Sutherland
It may be that your files are not included in the build path.
Right click the library project, go to ‘Flex library build path’, then select
the tab ‘Classes’. You will probably find that your classes are being
included. If they are included then make sure that the project is being built
(just turn on automatic building – project – build automatically).

This will (should) either give errors or provide a swc.

Kenneth.

[flexcoders] Flex 4.1 scrolling problem

2012-03-21 Thread bu4fred
I'm committed to using a spark container because I need to use the spark states
model.

I would like to create my own component that would automatically scroll as
necessary and appropriately adjust the scrollbar on a browser window resize.
This generic scrolling container may be included in a tabnavigator or other
containers (that should not scroll) to get the desired layout.

It look like all I need to do is wrap the spark container in a Scroller or link
a Scroller to the container.

My problem is that AFAIK you cannot add elements to a custom mxml component if
you've already added a component (like a s:Group ) to the component defnition.
I.e. I cannot use mxml to define a custome component that is an s:Group inside
a Scroller. So I guess the approch is to create a custom actionscript
component.

I'm hoping somebody has already solved this problem and can point me toward a
link or provide a snippet.

I plan to upgrade to Flex 4.5 in a few months if that's relevant.

It is Android ICS and Honeycomb limitation. You won't access that space on
a factory firmware. Try it with the video player. same problem there. I

not stable enough to use iPads finger gesture like program switching,
rather unuse 5% of screen.

 around 60 pixels are still blocked out at the bottom of the screen. Is
 there a way to force this ? I need the images to fill the screen.

 I tried tour de flex and noticed it does go fullscreen either.

[flexcoders] Flex 3 piechart legend label

2012-02-18 Thread flexcoder2008
I have a pie chart that is bound to XML data and corresponding legend. I am
using data Tips to format the display value for Project Number. The data
that is returned is numeric, but I want to add a 2 character string prefix
before that number.

For example, when I hover over a pie slice I want to see PR140, instead of
the underlying plain data 140.

I am able to achieve this with the label functions but cannot figure out how to
format the actual legend data. How do I format the legend label - there does
not seem to be a labelfunction for that?

Here is my code:

mx:PieChart id=pieChart1 x=20 y=0
showDataTips=true
dataTipFunction=pieChart_dataTipFunction
selectionMode=single
height=200 width=300
mx:series
mx:PieSeries id=pieSeries
nameField=ProjectNumber
labelPosition=callout
field=ApprovedBudget
labelFunction=pieSeriesLabelFunction
explodeRadius=0.05/
/mx:series
/mx:PieChart

mx:Legend id=pieLegend
labelPlacement=right
x=335 y=110 /

Set/assign the state( currentState=Oct2010 ) inside creationComplete
handling method.

Ex.
protected function
application1_creationCompleteHandler(event:FlexEvent):void
{
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
this.currentState =  Oct2010;
}
May be all the states might have not laid-out while executing mx:FormItem
includeIn=Apr2012

Its my guess. Do reply with your results.

Thanks

Yes, that works for me too, A little googling indicates that you cannot inherit
states. So I tried moving the state definitions into the child component which
still does not work as shown below. However if I change A.mxml to inherit from
s:VGroup the state errors go away (although I get a bunch of new ones because
I’m not inheriting from the base class). I could change my base class to an

2012-01-17 Thread Davidson, Jerry
I've been away from Flex for several months and wanted to refresh myself
on the tool. I don't have a problem with the content of the tutorials,
just the crashing at the end of every session. I could usually just
click the continue button and it usually worked. There are so many
variables with the flash player, etc, that I can see it being hard to
just keep the product going.

Some things are just beyond me, however. This morning I was updated to
10.1.1 and after the required reboot of the computer, it looked like
9.5.x was trying to update. As the update notice doesn't include a
stop option I had to let it go. Now I'm not sure what the heck I'm
running. But that's not the current issue.

It would appear that the only alternative is Lydia. How much do they
charge?

Re: [flexcoders] Flex Virtual Camera

2012-01-11 Thread Dave Cates
Hey Mark,

Camera.getCamera will only work for physically connected devices to the machine
where the Flash app is running - like a USB webcam.

What you want to do is access the IP camera via a StageWebView component -
basically a webkit browser. Just point the component at the URL for the camera.

http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/flash/media/StageWebView.html

That will display the camera output as it would do in a standard browser.

Hope that helps!

[flexcoders] Flex, updateDisplayList and clipping.

2011-12-07 Thread Nigel Magnay
Hi.

I have a component that uses the Graphics primitives in the
updateDisplayList. It does lots of text outputting, so it uses the
technique of having a single UITextField, getting the bitmap data and
bitmapFill-ing it to the canvas. Adding multiple first-class components to
the canvas is just way, way too slow to be viable.

This all works great. However, we now want to draw other things - things
that are not so easy to clip - eg: Circles!

I was surprised to see that Graphics offers no clipping. Is the only way
around this to draw the component to something like a Sprite, then to
bitmapFill that to the screen doing manual clipping calculations ?

 Just to throw in my two cents... I would not hold out any hope for any
 solution that will magically convert your Flex app to a HTML/JS app. Not in
 6 months, not in 6 years. I don't want to be a downer, but I just don't see
 it happening. Sure, we may see some tech demos that work on super simple
 Flex apps, but I think that's about as far as you'll get. You also might
 get tools that let you write a new app in MXML/AS, specifically with
 targeting HTML/JS in mind, and that might work well. But I have almost no
 confidence that you will ever be able to take an existing, large Flex app
 and magically get it to run well as an HTML app. I'd of course love to be
 proven wrong.

 My advice is that if you really need to target HTML/JS is to build it new
 from scratch. It's a harsh reality, and you're going to hate a lot of the
 toolchain, language, and process, but if you really do have the requirement
 that you need to have an HTML/JS app, you might as well just rip off the
 band-aid in one go instead of holding out hope for a holy grail solution.

RE: [flexcoders] Flex to HTML5 Conversion tool?

2011-12-02 Thread Sells, Fred
One of my co-workers has been spending the last ? years on a project
that uses his standard xml syntax to define a UI and then plans to
generate HTML or Swing, etc from that. It is his intent to define a UI
library independent layout tool. I question if it's worth the effort.

I like the clean lines of Python code and I would probably use some of
the meta language and introspection features to allow me to define my
HTML using object technology and then have each object have a
self.toXML() method that would do the right thing and call all
children recursively.

Just to throw in my two cents... I would not hold out any hope for any
solution that will magically convert your Flex app to a HTML/JS app. Not
in 6 months, not in 6 years. I don't want to be a downer, but I just
don't see it happening. Sure, we may see some tech demos that work on
super simple Flex apps, but I think that's about as far as you'll get.
You also might get tools that let you write a new app in MXML/AS,
specifically with targeting HTML/JS in mind, and that might work well.
But I have almost no confidence that you will ever be able to take an
existing, large Flex app and magically get it to run well as an HTML
app. I'd of course love to be proven wrong.

My advice is that if you really need to target HTML/JS is to build it
new from scratch. It's a harsh reality, and you're going to hate a lot
of the toolchain, language, and process, but if you really do have the
requirement that you need to have an HTML/JS app, you might as well just
rip off the band-aid in one go instead of holding out hope for a holy
grail solution.

I have a quick question.

I have a web application that was developed using 100% flex (AS

Do any one know of any tools that can help in the process of converting
