Hi Brandon,
Well, I am glad you enjoyed it. I've been working on little details that
were not in the previous game like the lock being unlocked before the
red door opened. It is a small thing, but totally gives the game a more
real feel to that one area.
The dirt and gravel sound of the foot steps sounds to me pretty real.
Heck it was a real sound at one time. Grin.
The Indian drumb beats and the spooky temple ambience is probably the
biggest change so far, but I still need to add dripping water, and other
ambient noises.

Check the archive history for a referal link or just go to

[Audyssey] hat trick

2006-04-03 Thread Charles Rivard
I would like to know more about this game in the form of a game review
published in the next issue of Audyssey magazine. I know that I could check
the game out myself, and may do so if I receive the info on where to do so and
what to do once I get there. I am very busy currently, but, by the time the
next issue comes into my inbox, this may not be the case. I have written
articles for the mag before, and would like to see creations from new folks.
Not that the old writers, or should I say, experienced writers, don't do bad
work. Quite the contrary! I ask this for 2 reasons: 1. I do want to know
more about the game. and most importantly, 2: The more info that Ron
receives, the longer the magazine exists, and the easier his job as editor
becomes. The more he has to work with, the better! Don't worry about multiple
articles. Defferent takes on games gives a better perspective. Thanks.

Here's all the info:

Always remember that there is a game chat in the games people play room of

www.for-the-people.com

Sign up at the main page if you don't have an account. It's free and easy.
Connect a mike to your soundcard and join in. This is primarily a voice
chat. Because screen reader chatter can be disruptive to people talking or
listening to talkers, it is suggested that you only send text messages when
nobody is speaking. Again, it is primarily, but not exclusively, a voice!
chat! So come on in and discuss games designed for the blind as well as
those not, that can be played by blind people. Got hints for others on
stumbling blocks while gaming? Or have you come across one of those
mentioned stumbling blocks and need help? Here's your chance! Chats are at
9 PM on Thursdays and 3 PM on Saturdays, both are Eastern standard time.
Gamers and developers are all welcome! Let's all talk games! Especially
developers! Got new games in the works? Want to let everyone know about
your games that already exist? Maybe you can give gamers some inside tips
we don't know about, or maybe you're looking for feedback and suggestions on
your games. It's a great opportunity!!

Hi Tom and all. I just wanted to say that I quite enjoyed the new trailer for
Monty. I really liked it that you had it like it is in sod where it let's you
know what you are picking up etc and also how the door opens and the sounds of
the ladders etc. I just liked every part of the new trailer. but if I could
make a suggestion. I like the idea of being able to have the option for a side
scroler game and possibly a game like it is in sod where the sounds come from
right to left and you use the up arrow key to walk between them I hope you get
what I mean. well those are just some of my thoughts.

 Hi,
I guess you have a point there. I will look in converting that feature
over to an option when I get the time. The main reason it is there was a
couple of people wrote in saying they did not understand the last
trailer, because they did not understand the sounds.
However, your point is also valid once people learn those sounds it
might get or might not get annoying to hear them. As for me they don't
bother me, but some people it might. I will wait to here what others
 have to say about it.
I know in SOD, for example, it announces when you pick up and item, and
what the item is. It never bothered me, and I don't believe I have
 heard anyone complain about it.

Re: [Audyssey] problum with top speed 2

2006-04-03 Thread Neo
HI,
download anything you might have experienced problems with from DJC's ftp
server at:
ftp://djc.my-net-space.net
username: PlayingInTheDark (make sure to capitalize the first letter of
every word but not to include any spaces, dashes or underlines etc.)
Password: racing
POrt: 21 (if you don't know what this setting means, just leave the default
value - most ftp clients shall use port 21 by default)
No passive mode (again, if using a good ftp client, this choice shall be
clearly visible, so just tab over to it and make sure it's unchecked)
If you lose this info, you can find it any time again at Raul's Top Speed
page at:
http://topspeed.asmodean.net
IF you don't know what an FTP client is or where to get a good one, then
it's gonna be a longer discussion but I would recommend you the free:
http://filezilla.sourceforge.net.
Anyway, Total Commander is best if you already have it and don'T want to get
used to anything new for now.
Hope this helps,

 Hi,
yeah, I see, manuals are often boring and they just take your time when
you didn't get to know anything you hadn't already expected or knew so
they just bother, but it's also often useful to read them when there is an
area you're not perfectly familiar with. :-)
You know, the developers just put their iefforts into establishing a
clear, self-explanatory and friendly documentation when noone reads it.
 :-D

This particular thing is also explained in the manual. The Topspeed
program itself acts just as a client. The server is automatically
established on the hoster's computer by the game. So the only thing you
have to do is tell the game to host a new game from the multiplayer menu,
and then get to know your ip (manual tells you how) and let other
potential players know it. Then they will put the ip into their server
selector tool and when they enter join an internet game from the menu
later, the game just automatically searches for the ip or hostname entered
in the serverselector. If it finds the running server and manages to
conect to it successfully, all communication between your client and the
hoster's server is handled by the game and the game play is interpreted to
you from your own point of view by the copy of Topspeed running on your
(player's) computer so smoothly and nicely that I've hardly seen any other
audio multiplayer game work as well as Top Speed (perhaps just
 Audioquake).
HOpe this explains enough and it doesn't sound too confused! :-)))
 Best wishes,
 Lukas

[Audyssey] W.O.M.B.A.T. Test

2006-04-03 Thread Phil Vlasak
Hi Folks,
On the JKR Harry Potter website, there is a test, which for the blind is
hard to find.
Here it is with commentary by the Harry Potter
Lexicon staff.
http://www.hp-lexicon.org/wizworld/wombat.html

W.O.M.B.A.T. Test

W.O.M.B.A.T stands for Wizards' Ordinary Magic and Basic Aptitude Test. It's
administered by the Wizarding Examinations Authority. The head of this
Authority
is Griselda Marchbanks, CDMG, APMD, fbBB.

The W.O.M.B.A.T. test appeared on
Rowling's website
on March 31, 2006. This test consisted of questions which require an
extensive knowledge of canon and an intuitive understanding of the Wizarding
World
to answer. A number of the questions require educated guesses, since we
don't have sufficient information to answer them definitively.

The test is reproduced below with commentary by Steve Vander Ark and Belinda
Hobbs. The purpose of this commentary is to help those who want to be
reminded
of handy canon details or who want to consider some of the implications of
what we do or don't know. The commentary is not intended to give specific
answers
in most cases, but rather to provide support information so that the test
taker can formulate their answers most effectively. Remember, in many cases,
there is no way for us Muggles to know the exact correct answer, so feel
free to make your best guess.

NOTE: We don't know what the acronyms after Marchbanks' name stand for.
Considering Rowling's devious sense of humor, we're not likely to be able to
guess
for sure. That won't stop us, of course. Head over to the
Lexicon Forum
to discuss this and other WOMBAT puzzlers.

GRADE 1

PART ONE
Magical Law
(Points available: 36 out of a possible 100)

RESOURCES FOR THIS SECTION:
Ministry of Magic departments
Wizengamot
MoM-Rules and Regulations

Which Ministry of Magic department(s) and/or committee(s) would you contact
to resolve each of the following dilemmas? (Questions 1-5)

1. Your neighbour is concealing a stash of
flying carpets
, some of which he is allowing to fly loose around his back garden.
 a. Wizengamot
 b. Department of Internationsal Magical Cooperation
 c. Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office
 d. Obliviators
 e. All of the Above
 f. None of the Above

Commentary:
Steve: Flying carpets fall under Arthur Weasley's department, judging by the
conversation with Barty Crouch before the Quidditch World Cup. So The Misuse
of Muggle Artifacts Office seems the likely choice. The Obliviators might be
needed if the carpets were spotted by Muggles, but since they seem to be
limited
to the back garden, it seems unlikely that they would be spotted by Muggles.

Belinda: I have to wonder about flying carpets being considered misuse in
some parts of the world, but not in others. In QA7 we learn that they are
still
an accepted mode of transportation in some Eastern countries. But letting
them fly free is most likely misuse. Seems that the bloke Arthur is talking
about in GoF7 is contesting his jurisdiction over them, but it falls under a
Trade Restriction as a Proscribed Charmable Object. But yes, we know it is
his department that handles this.

2. Your friend C possesses a Muggle Penny Farthing (old bicycle) that has
been enchanted to skim an inch above the ground, achieving speeds of over
100mph.
C did not personally enchant the Penny Farthing, never rides it and merely
wishes to keep it 'for sentimental reasons' as it was her grandmother's.
 a. Department of Magical Transport
 b. Improper Use of Magic Office
 c. Obliviators
 d. Misuse of Muggle Artefacts Office
 e. Committee on Experimental Charms
 f. None of the above

Commentary:
Steve: A Penny Farthing is pictured on the right. This is clearly a Muggle
artifact. The only office which would be involved would be the Misuse of
Muggle
Artifacts Office. The other offices wouldn't be involved. C didn't enchant
it, they don't ride it, and therefore the magical nature of the artifact
will
never be observed by Muggles who would therefore need Obliviating.

Belinda: Since she has no intentions of using the PennyFarthing, it should
fall through the loophole in the law Arthur wrote that specifically allows
someone to own an enchanted Muggle item such as, oh, a car, if the wizard
did not intend to actually use it. In CoS3 we have this exchange between
Arthur
and Molly:
block quote

[Mr. Weasley] There's a loophole in the law, you'll find.. As long as he
wasn't intending to fly the car, the fact that the car could fly wouldn't -

Arthur Weasley, you made sure there was a loophole when you wrote that
law! shouted Mrs. Weasley. Just so you could carry on tinkering with all
that
Muggle rubbish in your shed!
block quote end

So I wouldn't report it at all.

Hi Brandon,
Well, I am glad you enjoyed it.

Oh, so that's what that sound was for. I never would've guessed it was a

 Hi Tom,
man, the new game sounds really good!
Only I liked the original music quite a bit - maybe it should appear in
 the higher levels too.
And I miss the original Angela jump sound - this one seems too unrealistic
to me, I would much rather listen to her screams than such unnatural
 whoosh. :-)
Also what about making the ladder having two sounds or so, so that it
could be told whether you're climbing up or down or whether the ladder has
been jumped or stepped on like in James's original demo?
Otherwise, I must agree with Josh and Liam's concerns (especially about
 the dirt footsteps).
The game sounds really brilliant otherwise. Maybe would even be afraid to
play it alone at home at night. :-D
 Thanks,
 Lukas

Earth is the same way. The game resets after a month. The key is to see
how far you can get each cycle. I think it's fun and will play it.

When it recycles then I can start over and see if I can get futher than
before. That is the whole idea I think and is more popular than what you

2006-04-03 Thread Orin
www.rockstar.com is a continuing saga. Music rivals you do have to create an
account for. However, rockstar you run your rock band, I think music rivals
lets you do rap, country etc.

I think Chris has a band with a CD consisting of like 2 songs on it; heck I
wouldn't buy that CD.

No, I thought I'd just make it up. smile. Of course Earth is a real

In fact, you would find yourself in a minority if you went to play there

Re: [Audyssey] Music rivals

2006-04-03 Thread MissWings
Hi all.

I signed up for Music Rivals a coup,le of days agi and still haven't gotten
my activation e-mail yet, or if I have, it hasn't been at the bottom of my
in box where my new mail should be. I just tried to have them resend the
e-mail and I still haven't gotten it yet. Can someone tell me what the
sender's name shows up in the e-mails so I can sort my mail by sender and
see if I've got it? I'd have to not be able to use it because I never get
the e-mail. If my isp isn't letting the e-mail come through for whatever
reason, is there some free Web-based service I could sign up with so I can
get this e-mail? I hear a lot about gMail, but I don't know if that's free
or not. Thanks all.

[Audyssey] Tarable first game: Hattrick match report

2006-04-03 Thread Orin
Well guys, i had a tarible first game. The reason why the players are on one
line is because it shows up as links, and those links lead to the player pages.

Well, here's my tarable score of 0-4 game, bleh. Training is on Thirsday, so
hope my players will go up and actually get some skill.

--

Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and OAS International saw a
crowd turnout of 3551. OAS had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. The following
players had been chosen: Cramer - Locklear, Shackelford, Ferguson, Hurst -
Wall, Isaacs, De Ita, Trevino - Alicea, Perez.

Sparta started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. They fielded: Longoria - da Glória,
Coronado, Giménez - Grados, Crowell, Wubugwubuk, Abarca, Rødsjø - Dick, Oja.

In the 10th minute, the visitors broke through on the right after some poor
defending.
Toni Oja
put the ball away for 0 - 1. In the game's 22nd minute, Sparta's
Elijah Crowell
missed a penalty when the keeper took a premature dive in the right direction,
and tipped the ball out of the way. The away team's
Alexander Abarca
took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right in the 23rd minute
increasing Sparta's lead to 0 - 2.
Elijah Crowell
was, after 30 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well
placed diving header, but home side's keeper
Eugene Cramer
made the save. 0 - 2 was the halftime score. Sparta, bringing their ball
possession to 61 percent, dominated the battle.

Sparta came close to extending their lead as
Manuel Giménez
delivered a long range shot from the right but the angle was too sharp, and the
shot hit the side of the goal. Some fine maneuvering on the left led to
a Sparta goal in the 89th minute, making it 0 - 3.
Alexander Abarca
was noted down as the scorer. In the 90th minute, OAS's
Herman Wall
received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first.
Klaus Dick
increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley shot away on a pass from the
right. 0 - 4. By now, Sparta were drawing the troops back in order to defend
their lead. Sparta, bringing their ball possession to 62 percent, dominated the
battle.

OAS's best player was
Tomás De Ita.
Hans Isaacs
was a disappointment, however. Sparta's best player was
Toni Oja.
Alexander Abarca
on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 0 - 4.

Utopia is every 3 months, so that's nice. Yeah it'd be nice for a perm, but

No, I thought I'd just make it up. smile. Of course Earth is a real

In fact, you would find yourself in a minority if you went to play there

Hi Casey,
There is a miner bug in the engine where the landing sound is played and
not played. In some cases, such as the ladders, and when jumping off of
ropes it is clear. However, for whatever reason sometimes when getting
gems etc the landing sound after a jump can not be heard. One small but
should be easy to fix bugs.

Re: [Audyssey] Monty preview concerns

2006-04-03 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,

Snip

Only I liked the original music quite a bit
End Snip

What original music? Are you talking about the music for the menus, or the
music used for the older trailer. If you are talking about the faster drumb
beats I quickly discovered it didn't match the dark and spooky ambience. So I
licensed some slower native American drumb loops that were more in line with
the ambience.

Snip
And I miss the original Angela jump sound -
End Snip

As it happens so do I. However, there were as many complaints as there were
people who liked it. Sometime between now and the final release I will have to
decide which one to use as the stock sound.

Snip

Also what about making the ladder having two sounds or so
End snip

Well, I had a terrible time just coming up with eight moderately different
effects for the wooden ladder and wooden platforms as it was. Should I find
some extra effects that would do the job I would gladly add them in. However,
the Alchemy demo didn't have up and down sounds either. There were four metal
sounds for the platforms and for ladder steps, but the old engine was good
about making sure the same patern wasn't used again.

 Hi Brandon,
Well, I am glad you enjoyed it.

Snip
I like the idea of being able to have the option for a side scroler game
and possibly
a game like it is in sod where the sounds come from right to left and
you use the
up arrow key to walk between them I hope you get what I mean.

Can you explain this to me a little clearer? Some additional details
might help. The arrow key layout left for left, right for right up for
up, and down for down is a logical setup as it is. That is the way
side-scrollers are designed The joystick movement is the same as the
arrow keys.

Re: [Audyssey] Montezuma's Revenge Preview.

2006-04-03 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,
Another quick update.
Earlier someone asked about landing sounds. As it happens I found the
problem with that. The volume for the landing sounds were to low to be
heard clearly in many cases, and the gem sound when caught was way to
loud. I lowered the sound of grabbing the keys, gems, and potions, and
increased the volume for landing sounds. This seams to have pretty much
fixed that problem. Might need a little more tweeking, but that is the
source of the problem. Just a matter of volume.

In panning one channel is reduced and the other increased in volume by a

If you start in the center both channels are identical.
But if you multiply by the same amount such as 300, 400, 500, 600, etc., as
you pan, the steps sound different, larger towards the center and smaller
 towards the sides.
To make panning sound more natural, I double the number such as 300, 600,
 1200, 2400.

I do like the vocalizations when your character in revenge jumps or has

I suggest maybe a simple breath exhale as if the air has been pushed out of
