Re: [Audyssey] Puppet nightmares question

2013-04-03 Thread dark

Hi Sarah.

You can view the stats of skills in the game without difficulty by reading
their mouse over text, that however is not the problem in terms of
atmsophere.

You'll be fighting a nasty boss, and be told nemesis uses black drane you
can mouse over black drane to tell you that it has a chance of inflicting
drain or poison, and raises your characters afinity to dark element, but
that doesn't tell you what black drane actually is, which, given the fact
your fighting a boss is rather disappointing. Yes, you can look it up, but
only when the battle is finished.

Same goes with items, you get all the stats but none of the atmosphere.

That's my only major issue with the game, that the battles basically feel
more like a card game than an actual representation of battle since your not
really told much. Of course the card game is a distinctly good one and
requires lots of concentration to play, but it is still a little
disappointing in this respect, particularly because the characters and story
are! indeed very interesting and quite unique.

Beware the Grue!

Hi Dark,

ok, I know what you mean. You can look up skills for your party when you get
them, but when an enemy uses something in battle that you don't know and you
only can look it up afterwards, the description is kind of lacking there.

In Final Fantasy games for example you get really cool animations with some
skills and especially for guardian forces and souch. This adds quite a bit
to the athmosphere of the game.

Re: [Audyssey] Puppet nightmares question

2013-04-03 Thread dark

Hi Sarah.

to be fair, everything you need in battle is there in the mouseover text for
a skill, your told exactly how it affects your party, it's just that your
given no atmosphereic info at all which is why I mention the battles being
almost more like a card game than any sort of exciting fight against your
foes.

this is a shame, but the gm of the game seems to think that such
descriptions only appeal to blind people, and would ruin the positioning of
the interface, for all that he's been great on straight out access measures
such as labeling unlabeld images and the like.

It is the one thing about puppet nightmares which I do find disappointing.

Beware the grue!

Hi Dark,

sure, I'll add you when I play next time. I also noticed that you can get
credits from simply playing the game. I like this system, since you don't
have to donate to get anything.

I can't really say anything about the skills in battle yet, since I didn't
play in the last days due to lack of time. But I'll take a look at it and
then I'll probably see what you mean. I don't think it's too bad if you have
to look something up when you first get a skill, I think after some time you
remember its affect anyway. But maybe more description of the skill in
battle would add some athmosphere to it.

I simply let the site generate a new captcha when I couldn't understand the

Re: [Audyssey] Puppet nightmares question

2013-04-01 Thread dark

Hi Sarah.

I believe this is probably a case of graphics labelling not matching the
actual graphics, since while I never found the arrows, with supernova the
links to actually continue the story, (they say next page I believe), were
very easy to find since they were simply at the bottom of the text.

Also note all those little help messages from the toymaker have a link
saying close this lesson under them that minimizes their text.

Hi Dark,

ok, thanks for the info.

I think the first text from the toymaker is a bit misleading then, since
I'm already in the game and he tells me to continue with the story. But
well, I'll try what you said then. The funny thing is, even the journal at
this point tells me to click on the arrows I can't even find.

Regarding mouse over text, I think NVDA reads that pretty well if you're
positioned on a button or link, so this should be no problem.

Thanks again and best regards

Hi Dark,

I also found the links to continue the story in the introduction, no problem

Yes, I noticed that the lesson can be closed.

Re: [Audyssey] Puppet nightmares question

2013-04-01 Thread dark

Hi Sarah.

that is true regarding the help system, I've read many pages of it several
times over to get to grips with some of the more complicated aspects of the
game. You can also ask other players in chat or on the forums too, since
they tend to be a helpful lot as well.

the only thing I dislike about the game, is in order to get descriptions of
items, skills and various other things you need to physically look them up
in the various information lists. This makes battles, while very tactical
and complex less good for your imagination since while your quite able to
see that the skill hydra does different sorts of elemental damage to all of
the opposing soul puppets depending upon your own puppets magic stat vs the
enemy's resistance, your not told actually what is supposed to be going on
when the skill is used and the only way to find that information is to look
it up in the skill list.

This makes puppet nightmares a great and complex tactical battle game, but
one which loses somewhat of it's atmosphere, which is a shame since it does!
have an interesting story, quests and world, it's just that these aren't
represented equally throughout the game.

that being said, other than ce it's the game that has held my interest
longest and I do occasionally go back and do a little more, training up my
kidsies and doing quests.

I'll also add that credit, the donation currency is great, since while you
can! donate for it, it's also available fairly often in game too meaning
that you don't miss out on any donation items, albeit that if you do donate
money to the game you might get them sooner, which is a very fare system.

Hope you have fun with the game, feel free to add me as a friend (I'm dark
on there), and any questions please also ask.

Beware the grue!

Hi Dark,

first, I'm glad your arm is better and you can type again, at least a bit.
And cool thing that your exerzises saved you here, a broken arm would have
been not good at all.

And now, I have a puppet nightmares question too, which I sent first time
when you couldn't type, so I'll try again now.

I started the game and got to the first page of the tutorial. The toymaker
tells me to click the arrows to continue the story, but I can't find any
arrows on the site. There is a grafic labled arrow in the tutorial text, but
it doesn't seem possible to click this one. Since you wrote in the
description on audiogames.net that there sometimes are hotspots in the text,
I even tried to click on the word arrows in the tutorial text, but nothing.

I'm using Firefox and NVDA. Any help here would be great.

Thanks and best regards
Sarah

Re: [Audyssey] Puppet nightmares question

Hi Sarah.

if you've read the introduction explaining how you get to the gypsy caravan
with ada and first meet the toymaker, you've already done the clicking on
arrows, (they're labled next page I believe).

Once you actually get to the start of the game propper and have the usual
interface with the camp menue, items, menue, town menue help menue etc and
various options, you can start playing. To begin, you should get three soul
puppets, a soccubus, a psyclopse and a sylph, go to the creatures part of
the camp menue to find them, give then names and organize them into a party.
Go and talk to gregor (you can find him under the help menue), to get your
first quest, and I'd also recommend seeing if you can buy a troll egg from
wily the scarecrow since trolls are healers and very usefull in battle.

if your ever stuck in the story or wonder where you need to go to next,
check the jurnal option and read it, it'll tell you where to go.

also, note that in puppet nightmares the various information menues are
always available. This is necessary since the game is! undoubtedly very
complex, and you'll likely want to go back to the help menue and reread
different concepts and ideas again, indeed some pages of the help menue such
as that on how to unlock different sorts of soul puppets and when to do
specific side quests you might want to keep checking.

Also, note that there is a lot of mouse over text in the game, especially in
battles. I'm not sure how Nvda handle mouseovers, but you might want to make
certain of that. in supernova I actually had to check the command to
position the mouse pointer at the current curser position without! clicking
a link so that I could go and read the text.

hth, any other questions, please ask, but also bare in mind Puppet
nightmares, while a very fun game once you get into it and involved has a
lot to learn, luckily your not expected to pick up everything in the game
all at once.

All the best,

Dark.

Re: [Audyssey] Puppet nightmares question

2013-03-31 Thread Sarah Haake

Hi Dark,

ok, thanks for the info.

I think the first text from the toymaker is a bit misleading then, since I'm
already in the game and he tells me to continue with the story. But well,
I'll try what you said then. The funny thing is, even the journal at this
point tells me to click on the arrows I can't even find.

Regarding mouse over text, I think NVDA reads that pretty well if you're
positioned on a button or link, so this should be no problem.

Thanks again and best regards
Sarah

[Audyssey] Puppet nightmares question

2013-03-30 Thread dark
Hi.

Well my left arm hasn't actually fallen off, and while still not exactly
painless, I can at least prop it in a position where it is possible to type
provided I take breaks.

Rather amusingly, the hospital said they were amazed it wasn't! broken, and the
principle reason it wasn't is that since I've been doing quite serious amounts
of singing including half an hour's running and weights each morning, the
amount of muscle around my elbow joint protected the bones, - nice to know
I managed to raise my constitution score along with my strength :D.

Anyway, speaking of stats I have been reading mails from the list ( since I
could use the tab key, enter and arrows). Lisa I believe had a question
regarding puppet nightmares. Since this is a morpg I have played rather
extensively, it's probable I can answer. The interface in puppet nightmares
isn't overly easy, but it is quite navicable if your familiar with your screen
readers various functions, and everything in the game is! indeed labled, (the
gm is pretty good on access, albeit I was a little irritated when he said that
adding mor descriptions would only appeal to blind gamers).

I have put some extra information about the interface on the puppet nightmares
index page over at http://audiogames.net/db.php?id=Puppet+nightmares which may
be helpful, other than that, any questions, please ask.

All the best,

Dark.

[Audyssey] Puppet nightmares question

2013-03-26 Thread Sarah Haake

Hi,

since Puppet Nightmares was a topic here quite a few times now and it sounds
like a good game, I registered today to try it myself.

The problem is though, that I can't even get past the starting point. The
toy maker in the tutorial says I should click the arrows to continue with
the story. But I can't find any arrows to click anywhere on the site. I even
tried the journal to see if it says where to go next, but it just says the
same thing, to click some arrows I can't find.

I'm using Firefox with NVDA.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Best regards
Sarah

[Audyssey] Puppet nightmares reevaluated

2012-11-23 Thread dark
I'm not sure how many people have tried this one, sinse I confess this was a
game I picked up myself, but gave up somewhat in frustration due to some issues
with the interface (whether Hal or ie8 I don't know), the games' inherent
complexity, and the lack of descriptive text especially in battle.

Today however I was lying in bed and gave this one a go, and am frankly amazed
at what I miss. Ie8 or Hal seem to be behaving now, and I'm truly impressed
with the game and glad I took the time to give it another look.

For those who don't know, puppet nightmares is a game themed around
collecting, battling and training soul puppets, sort of like synister gothic
pokemon! it has an ongoing plot and a very distinct world, and probably the
most complex battle system ever! i terms of brouser games.

This does make battles a thing to get used to, but okay if you have a screen
reader that can navigate through all the settings and buttons and such, sinse
in each battle you have your three soul puppets fighting three enemies, all of
whome need actions or attacks selecting and targits.

there are skills to use incombat, elemental weaknesses, rare soul puppets to
collect, variable items and an interesting ongoing plot.

I'm also pleased to say that the game's gm is great about access, indeed he
recently added the ability in battle to click the name of any skill and have an
explanation show up, which not only helps for access, but also adds to the
atmosphere sinse being told jo uses wind hammer is a lot more impressive when
you've got the full description of the soul puppet summoning a blow of air to
smite you with!

the game is utterly free to play, and there aren't even any dayly turn limits
or similar, though credit, the donator currency can be used to buy some fairly
cool stuff like items which increase the drop rate of good stuff from monsters
in dungeons.

so, while this is a hard game to get into, I am finding it surprisingly
rewarding (while I wait for my iphone to recharge and play more of Kodp!).

if anyone wants a go, go to:
http://www.puppetnightmares.com/index.php?sh=23512

And yes, that is my referal link so I'd appreciate people using it to sign up
:D.

all the best,

Dark.

[Audyssey] Puppet nightmares brouser game

2012-02-29 Thread dark
Hi.

This is a brouser game that Shadowdragon found a while ago and has sinse talked
to the developer about access.

It can be found at http://www.puppetnightmares.com/index.php?sh=23512/

For those who don't know, this is another of the creature command battle type
games, in some ways like Monster breeder, but far, far deeper, with probably
the most complex and interesting battle system I've seen in a brouser game
being that you command three creatures called soul puppets in a party and fight
a party of enemies, all of whome will take actions and turns in battle, can use
skills or styles or just attack.

Elemental weaknesses, ranged vs magic, lots of generating equips that are
randomly created, Status effects it's all here!

It can't be denied that the battle system, and indeed the hole game has
pages that are somewhat complex to navigate, simply because of the amount of
info there is (especially in battles). Shadowdragon found it worked with jaws
12, At the time I was having extreme problems accessing the pages with
Supernova, however simply changing the dom mode setting from none cashing to
cashing did the job. This is something necessary for a few, very complicated
tabulated pages and necessary with some games like Warriors 2, --- I indeed
don't know why I didn't think of it earlier :D.

The other thing I found about the game, is that when it has a none standard
link that says click here or asks to click some text say a name and
description of a creature to select it, you have to be quite deep into the text
for the hot spot to work.

So, instead of clicking the text that says click here to exit I literally had
to move across to the word here

All that being said, everything in the game is indeed labled correctly now, and
the complexities of navigation are nothing beyond what has been seen before.

I can't speak too much about the game sinse I've not got into it yet, but
pluses include a very detailed story, lots of creature and item crafting and
progression options, a really! deep combat system (all of which I've not yet
worked out myself), side quests, humerus npcs and an interesting setting.

The only problem I have with it is that information content in text is a bit
lacking in the battles, which makes them rather uninteresting to read from a
text point of view, and in some cases slightly hard to follow.

What I mean is in battles your told

So and so used wind hammer on so and so but other than looking at the text
which says things like atk goes up, minus 100 hp your not given any
description of what something does, indeed your not even told when a creature
is koed in battle but have to go and look at their hp being zero.

This not only makes battles rather uninteresting to read, interesting
though they are to play, but also makes it a very slow process having to look
up what any skills and styles you use, and any skills and styles used by the
enemies are in the various reference pages.

I may well contact the developer about this matter, once I've tried a few more
battles and got to grips with things.

Hopefully though this will be a really great addition to the roster of
accessible rp games either way.

Oh and yes, the above link is my referral link to the game, so I would be
obliged if anyone interested click it. ]

Re: [Audyssey] Puppet nightmares brouser game

2012-02-29 Thread Shadow Dragon
I doubt anything will get done about the battles to be honest, I already
talked to the dev about sprucing up the battle descriptions and he basically
said Nah, noone would read them. So we're out on that front. I haven't
been playing much because my support status ran out, and support stats makes
battles much less tedious and much more bearable by introducing hot keys
that can get you through them much more quickly. But since I don't have any
money to toss at the game to get support status anymore, and I don't feel
like slogging through long battles, even to see the new story content I
haven't seen yet, I don't think I'll be getting back into this one for a
bit. Still it's a great game, and it holds it's own for a long time if you
can get used to how slow the battle systems are and you don't mind some of
the more tedious quests, there are some with multi-level dungeons where
really all you do is click next and fight monsters over and over and over
till you get through it, it can be up to 50 battles in a row. That's when
support status would really help.

Well I've sent the gm an in game message, sinse I must admit having to look
up what a given skill or style is just to know what it does when it's used
on you is really irritating. We'll see if it gets tken up or not.

in fact that seems to be the biggest floor with the game, all item and skill
descriptions are just dumped in a massive set of info pages of doom and your
expected to look them up and remember what they do which is down right
irritating, especially for such a stat heavy game. Myself, I'd much rather
have the chance of finding good stuff or having mysterious enemy skills that
surprise me described in battles than essentially having a reference of
doom.

That being said the battles are fairly good, I've done three dungeons now
(well one twice), and have found some ways to get around the pages very
quickly with Hal's columnization and commands to jump betwene sets of info
quickly, for instance I just type execute into Hal's find feature,
then when I've finished setting what my puppets do I just hit f4 to go to it
and read the text undernieth that says what's happened in battle.

I don't know how useful hotkeys would be with hal, though one for instant
execute might be nice.

I'll probably stick with this one for a bit and see what happens, sinse it's
at least still being developed and has a nice system to play with, even if
there are a lot of fights.

One question, what is the 1-1, 1-2 etc in battle? and what was that stuff
about front or back on formations? I didn't get that at all, and as far as I
can see the formations are just essentially a party wide boost of a given
stat.

2012-02-29 Thread Shadow Dragon
That's pretty much all formations are. However, they do help out if you
really pay attention to how your guys are formed up and how every single
skill in the game works. Basically they're either for just the stat boosts,
or for the super strategists. The 1-1, 1-2 stuff is actually coordinates
showing how your puppets are layed out. So for example, if you had puppets
at 1-1, 2-1 and 3-1, they'd be in a straight line facing the enemy. And most
skills, when you read them, show you how they hit, for example, area of
effect, straight line, single enemy, etc. So basically you can put your
puppets in formation like having your two melee guys in front, and a healer
in the back behind them that won't get hit by some skills. But it's kind of
hard to set up and it takes a bit of getting used to with the coordinates
system. As for looking up skills, well if Hal has a mouse over command, most
skills can be seen instantly in battle that way instead of having to look
them up in the guide, which helps some.

Thanks for letting me know about the coordinates, that makes a lot more

The problem is the mouse over text seems to appear at the bottom of the

Also, I can't get the equips to work at all! I just can't find the bloody

the page after you've set the equipment for each puppet.

Thanks for letting me know about the coordinates, that makes a lot more
sense sinse obviously I was just seeing the info in columns.
The problem is the mouse over text seems to appear at the bottom of the
screen, so even if I click a skill I have to go and read what the dam
thing is.

Also, I can't get the equips to work at all! I just can't find the bloody
set equip button. i thought I'd found it, but I was just clicking on the
link back to the inventory.

Beware the grue!

That's pretty much all formations are. However, they do help out if you
really pay attention to how your guys are formed up and how every single
skill in the game works. Basically they're either for just the stat
boosts, or for the super strategists. The 1-1, 1-2 stuff is actually
coordinates showing how your puppets are layed out. So for example, if
you had puppets at 1-1, 2-1 and 3-1, they'd be in a straight line facing
the enemy. And most skills, when you read them, show you how they hit,
for example, area of effect, straight line, single enemy, etc. So
basically you can put your puppets in formation like having your two
melee guys in front, and a healer in the back behind them that won't get
hit by some skills. But it's kind of hard to set up and it takes a bit of
getting used to with the coordinates system. As for looking up skills,
well if Hal has a mouse over command, most skills can be seen instantly
in battle that way instead of having to look them up in the guide, which
helps some.

Well I've sent the gm an in game message, sinse I must admit having to
look up what a given skill or style is just to know what it does when
it's used on you is really irritating. We'll see if it gets tken up or
not.

in fact that seems to be the biggest floor with the game, all item and
skill descriptions are just dumped in a massive set of info pages of
doom and your expected to look them up and remember what they do which
is down right irritating, especially for such a stat heavy game. Myself,
I'd much rather have the chance of finding good stuff or having
mysterious enemy skills that surprise me described in battles than
essentially having a reference of doom.

That being said the battles are fairly good, I've done three dungeons
now (well one twice), and have found some ways to get around the pages
very quickly with Hal's columnization and commands to jump betwene sets
of info quickly, for instance I just type execute into Hal's find
feature, then when I've finished setting what my puppets do I just hit
f4 to go to it and read the text undernieth that says what's happened in
battle.

I don't know how useful hotkeys would be with hal, though one for
instant execute might be nice.

I'll probably stick with this one for a bit and see what happens, sinse
it's at least still being developed and has a nice system to play with,
even if there are a lot of fights.

One question, what is the 1-1, 1-2 etc in battle? and what was that
stuff about front or back on formations? I didn't get that at all, and
as far as I can see the formations are just essentially a party wide
boost of a given stat.

All the best,

Dark.

[Audyssey] Puppet Nightmares

2011-03-20 Thread Orin
Hey all,

Just found a story RPG that from what I've played so far. Party system, episode
story with difficulty changes, it's good all in all.

www.puppetnightmares.com is the website. I don't know how to increase the
damage of my creatures though, battles seem to take longer than normal or
longer than they should.

Everyone who likes stories check it out.
