Sure, it looks stupid ; but the idea is to keep the stable version untouched
and still having a pick at the new version launched from Wine - couldn't hurt
... and it launches fine, the only problem is :

Pango-WARNING **: couldn't load font "MS Shell Dlg Not-Rotated 8", falling
back to "Sans Not-Rotated 8", expect ugly output.

and ugly output there is indeed

You are misunderstanding the problem. Gimp can and does remember if your last
session was in swm. It however lacks the code currently to properly load in
that mode. Namely remembering what was docked where and restoring that state
does not work yet. It's a work in process not a complete feature.

Maybe it could be implemented the way Dia does (at least on Windows):
if the executable is launched directly, Dia starts like GIMP today,
i.e. independent toolbar and diagram windows; if the executable is
launched with the --integrated option, then Dia starts in single window
mode.

By default the Windows installer creates a start menu / desktop
shortcut with the --integrated option included, so I suspect the average
Windows user does not even know it could be otherwise (not bad in my
opinion, because the GTK+ Windows port does not behaves exactly the
same as in Linux native and so the desire for single window mode).

The modification was to one of the ./configure scripts (I changed the
path to the perl location in order for the script to find my perl that
was installed in some irregular directory - perl was needed for
intltool). I haven't changed the source code of any of the programs
themselves.

Please, by all means, do never ever distribute a binary based on a
modified copy of the source code. If you absolutely need to do so, then
please make a very prominent notice about this. It sucks a lot if we get
bug reports and later find out that there were changes to the source

my file was set to private since it has modifications in the source
code which I'm not sure I can reproduce (I don't remember them
exactly, and my code was delted because the shared server I use at
university cleaned the temporary space which I have used).

No, I do not think thats a good idea. Git builds are for developers
and people who are capable of doing at least a patch cycle for a bug
they report to the developer. There might be an official unstable
soon, but even then, its unstable. Literally. There is(or was last
week) at least one sure way to crash gimp in it, and several unknowns.
The code is at this moment as unstable as it gets. I personally do not
want bug reports against unfinished things.

Exactly. The GPL (v2 anyway, not sure about v3) requires that you
provide either the sources, or a written assurance that you will
provide the sources to anybody who obtained the binary, which must be
valid for 3 years. IIRC, this was further clarified in the FSF's FAQ
that just linking to some site that happens to have the source right
now is not adequate, unless you've made arrangements with that site.

Oleg:
I d/l'd from Deposit Files and on first run got a missing DLL error on
libintl-8.dll
Turns out I already had a copy of this as part of install of plugin
Filter Factory Converter.

I renamed this plugin to make it bypassed in GIMP plugin but got same
error on next run of GIMP 2.7.1
Then copied to GIMP\bin (same folder containing gimp-2.7.exe)

Gimp 2.7.1 now runs successfully WinXP SP3 :-)
I haven't yet walked through the changes noted here:
http://www.gimp.org/release-notes/gimp-2.7.html

Note to download all three files from Deposit Files (using free download
takes quite sometime with waits of 17 minutes between each RAR file)

I don't know whether this will help anyone else or not but I copied all
three archive files to my Google Docs to folder [myShares]. Anyone who
wants to d/l any of the files can get them from this link:

I also put libintl-8.dll in same folder in case anyone else has same
problem and doesn't have or want to get FilterFactory (available on
Photocomix site)

Oleg: Google Documents now allows 1 GB limit per gmail account and
AFAICT is easier for uploaders than any of the file-sharing sites in
case you wind building another version. Note: it seems that you have
allow world read and edit capababilities - hence ability to delete - to
allow others to download files per the link Google will give you. :-(

Thanks very much!

Re: [Gimp-developer] Windows snapshot of 2.7 - possible?

2010-04-07 Thread LightningIsMyName
Hello,

I compiled GIMP from git this week, on windows using msys and mingw
(and without cygwin).
You can find my build here:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/hjwqw1kym4g/gimp-win-08-04-2010.7z
Read the README_FIRST!!!.txt file before using this build (seriously, read it!).

This is .7z archive (you'll need 7-zip to extract it). It contains a
lot of junk (since it contains all the traces of my failed attempts to
compile GIMP) which you probably don't need in order to run GIMP, and
there is a lot of mess in the lib directory so I'm not sure you can
actually link against anything in there.
It contains some general instruction to compile GIMP on windows inside
the HACKING.txt file. As it says in the file, I'll provide a complete
guide for compiling gimp on windows later on this month (hopefully it
will be finished this month) on
http://lightningismyname.blogspot.com/p/gimp-stuff.html

Again, this is a messy build and it's not intended for every day usage
since it was compiled without many of the "extra" dependencies (for
example, it was compiled without jpeg support). It does have export to
PNG and obviously for XCF, but many of the other formats are missing.

My next build will be much more organized and will contain much less mess.

Hope this helps =)

Did you cross compile this, or compile it under windows?

If under windows, can you provide any guidance on compiling from git
under windows? I have tried under MSYS but not had luck, mainly due
to the many dependencies, not being able to locate compiled binaries.

Thanks in advance if you can help,

Same time ago I've compiled git version of gimp under win32
there is it http://depositfiles.com/files/sh7bvsfeh

it's not installer but just an archive, so just unpack it to the root of
drive C:
it's not very fresh but there is single window mode and some other new
features

may be I'll try to make new one with normal installer, new version gegl
and babl, and with fixed bug

[Gimp-developer] Windows snapshot of 2.7 - possible?

Re:

Is there any chance of a windows build of a current GIMP 2.7?
AFAICT the last one made available was done August 19, 2009 and per the
above link it looks like lots of good things have happened since then
that would be fun to play with :-)

I tried to see if a later one had been created but now can't even figure
out where I got the one(s) I have:
gimp-2.7.0-r28042-i686-setup.exe and gimp-2.7.0-r28070-i686-setup.exe

later ... after a little googling it looks like they are here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-win/files/ and r28042 is still the
latest available.
