[Goanet] Goa liberation day

2023-12-26 Thread Bernado Colaco
Instead of Liberation it should be renamed as forced incorporation of Goa.
Those who registered in Portugal are facing a tough time, not knowing their
future. Portugal continues the registration because of the events of 1961,
which many Goans do not know. If it was liberation Goans would not have this
privilege.

BC

Goa liberationday
It was Dr. JACK SEQUEIRA ,whose vision and consumate dedication helped to
maitain identity of Goa for posterity.Goans  the world over cherish this
unique distinctive,  identity ,preserve it and are legitimately proud. It is
in fitness of reality that those who revel with this privilege hardly spare
a thought to the architect of independent Goa state, a crown among the
states of India..Official monuments to all and sundry  exist but not the
revered memory of this stalwart.Goans of all shades  race, colour,
religious affinity umitedly and devotedly secured Goas  separate identity.
MGP  were bent upon extinguishing it by merging it with Maharashtra. The
shabby treatment meted out to the promoter  opened his eyes. The misguided
populace could not understand the wisdom of being on our own. However in a
fierce battle  of unity the opinion poll won  the race.Today in a flash
back the joy  and revelry is revived
The United Goans party
was divided on the issue of opinion poll and poll for separate state once
and for all, but differences apart they put the shoulder to the wheel
together. In recognising the greatness of others  we honour ourselves. It is
a pity that those who enjoy the power of separate state of  Goa are
indifferent  to and ignore those who made this possible .The disgraceful
continuation of remnants of MGP in rechristened mode is a joke . HAIL

[Goanet] Why different yardstick to measure Goa's great mining scam?

2023-07-21 Thread Bernado Colaco
Goa has been scammed for 6 decades. The latest is believed to be the sports
scam. We have been robbed of our port, airport, mine revenue, river Mandovi,
they even shipped away the Johnny Walker in 1961. They only gave Goans a fake
noun called 'liberation'.

BC

"

Why different yardstick to measure Goa's great mining scam?

Yardsticks currently employed to measure the depth of Curruption is between
Kala Academy scam and Atal Setu scam. Anat setu scam as we are told is in
between 100 to 200 crore rupees.

What is over looked is mining scam in Goa.

I have been informed of the issue of 3,85,00,000 metric tons of illegal
iron exports from Goa as submitted by Central Empowered Committee (CEC) to
Supreme Court.

What is the calculation of this amount of illegal ore at the rate of 70$
per ton. What would be the figure when converted into Rupees? Can anyone
calculate the amount robbed off Goa ?

What is required to be done in order to institute SIT into this scam? Why
Goa Government has deployed on minor land scams and not on mining scam even
though it has powers to do so?

Why there is silence from every one about this?

Why mining loot is condoned by both the State and non-state actors?

Why there is difference yardstick to address Goa's great mining scam?

End of an Era: Remembering Mario Cabral
Frederick Noronha

With some trepidation, I asked the question to the senior
journalist, the first whom I encountered in the Press Room at
the old Adil Shahi Palace in Panjim.  "I've joined the Deccan
Herald, and have just applied for my accreditation.  Is it
okay if I enter here till the time I get it?"

In those days, the small Press Room was empty for much of the
day.  Except at the 4 pm tea break, and the morning peak
hour.  The media in Goa was yet to expand as it later did.
Outside it was the foreboding sign: "For accredited
journalists only."

We had all heard of the reputation of Mario Cabral e Sa, who,
news trickling in on Monday evening, told us, had just passed
away earlier that morning in Bombay/Mumbai.  He had been with
his family there for many years, after leaving the village
and land he loved, the island of Divar.

OUTSOURCE the promotion of Konkani to the state and church. Is that the sussegad

2021-08-15 Thread Bernado Colaco
Around 2 weeks ago an exchange slipped through the net bringing in Covid to
Macau and into the community. The whole family of four were infected with the
Delta variant.
The government machinery got into action, red zoned the area where the infected
family were living. Thereafter tested the whole population in 3 days plus the
results. The current population in Macau is six lakhs. Touch wood there is no
infection yet other than the family who is undergoing treatment.
Maybe measures like the wearing of masks, continued social distancing, testing
for temperature and closing of borders has helped.

Portugal, invited international bids for three bridges over the Rivers Mandovi
and Zuari in Goa, and River Sandalcalo in Daman.Portuguese engineers had come
to the conclusion that all three rivers were highly treacherous during the
monsoons and bridges on piles would not stand the pressures so the bids were
for suspension bridges, one over each river. Unfortunately the orders were
delayed especially as the Goan company responsible for collecting the toll

[Goanet] Padre Jose Vaz

2021-08-09 Thread Bernado Colaco
My belief is that all Goans should support Goans causes albeit their
habitation ie in white, black, yellow or brown countries. The lack of unity
among Goans is very telling. We have reached a point that our land is being
taken in front of our eyes.

BC
I want to make ?a few points in response to Eddie's post:

This post by Eddie is understandable. ?We are all against the injustices and
cruelties of colonial conquest to gain territories and impose white superiority
over native peoples, AKA "Browns and Whites" in Eddie's post. ?

1.But his objections to George and me trying to gain a high honor for one of us
from the white order that reigns over the world, sounds a bit hollow from a
Brown who left his native land where he should have stayed to better serve the
interests of his own Brown people, instead of migrating to the capital of
imperialism to fully enjoy the comforts and benefits of that imperialistic
system.

2. Where are the "Browns and Blacks" like Eddie? ?Do they raise money, send
Petitions and sign Petitions, and support prizes and competitions as paths to
recognition and for preservation of the memory of those who gave extraordinary
service for mankind? ?
Why don't they make Saints and Patron Saints, give Nobel Prizes and Pulitzer
Prizes, have the Olympics, and other honors and competitions??
If Eddie can tell us where to apply for a similar high honor as "Patron Saint"
to be given by Browns and Blacks, we'll be happy to apply for one for St.
Joseph Vaz.?

the other hand there could be a revival in field hockey, besides winning a gold

Regarding the comment below, if there was movable Devanagri  type available,
surely the book would be printed in that language.

Father Thomas Stephens was the first British Jesuit
to set foot in Goa.  He learned the Marathi
language and composed 'Kristpuran' epic in Marathi

first book in the Marathi language to be printed in the
Roman script in Goa in the early seventeenth

It is a pity that the dreams (better Goa) of the the freedom fighters  never

Gaitonde expired in Lisboa at the age of 106.

BC
History turns and twists in unpredictable ways, but ?lvaro Pereira
never failed to stand up for what was right when it counted the most.

The gentlemanly anti-colonial Freedom Fighter, who passed away
yesterday at his home in Panjim at the age of 96, was an indomitable
force of non-violent resistance against the Estado da ?ndia, but
refused to harbour any bitterness after his battle was won. Thus, when
the times changed, and fates conspired to deliver one of his own to
the helm of Portugal, it was an especially meaningful full circle when
Prime Minister Ant?nio Costa warmly commiserated with Pereira on his
first state visit to Goa in 2017.

RIP L.Mascarenhas. He lived for more than a century and saw the destruction of
Goa after 1961. The so called freedom fighters were the protagonist's of the
death knell of Goa.
These is a paragraph written (NT) by one D. Almeida when interviewing Xri.
Mascarenhas in 2012. "It is with a sense of nostalgia and pride that he looks
back on the days gone by. He returned to Goa at a time when a man was measured
by his bearing and demeanour and it was honourable to fight the good fight.
Talk about today and he gets bitter with the way things have turned out. He
expressed his anger in one sentence, "Write that Lambert Mascarenhas has said
that he preferred the Goa of the Portuguese days."
BCSorrowing lies my Land.--A Great Goan has left us, but
his legacy lives on.
I still remember when he and Jolly visited us at our Sutton

their Dona Paula mansion many years ago during my trip to
Goa.
He will be remembered not just as a Freedom Fighter, journalist,
author and Founder Editor of the prestigious GOA TODAY magazine, but as

great Goan proud.

Basically it is survival of the fittest. Nothing is discussed on how Goans face

--Goa Death by Neglect and Individual
Responsibility

Today 15 May 2021 News reports announce thirty two thousand live positive Covid
cases and two thousand who died RIP.

All around the world, Goa State is no exception, when the Truth is shielded by
a Bodyguard of lies, lies of delusion.

Let us rewind to February Carnival.  Goa Government, despite its best efforts
to get the population to follow Covid appropriate behaviour, failed to do so.
Covid appropriate behaviour included:

1. Wash your hands properly with soap frequently
2. Social Distancing
3. Wearing Masks in public places
4. Only leaving home when absolutely necessary for example food shopping

Perhaps the reasons were not made clear enough.  Goa is a civilised state you
could not expect the police to enforce the rules with a Lathe Charge .

This is what actually happened, our fellow Goykars carried on with their
Birthday Parties, Weddings, Zatras, Shigmo, Fest, etc as though it was their
last day on earth.

Old Goa was the capital of the Portuguese rulers from 15th century until it
was ravaged with plague. The than rulers took the decision to transfer the
capital to  Pangim. Therefore saving lives and continuity to life.
Today Goa is again ravaged with an unprecedented plague. But today those who
took over Goa since 1961 cannot solve the issue. Supply of oxygen is short
causing so many deaths. Hospitals and staff are over loaded. No proper testing
is conducted on the inhabitants. A total mismanagement of the pandemic. This
has totally laid bare the rulers who have shown no morals.
Some time back there were posts on GN comparing the pandemic in Portugal to
Goa. Today the tables have totally overturned and the probharatis are now very
quiet.
Hope that all Goans get out of this situation safely. Just last week Goa lost
another bhumiputra Sr. Julio Aguiar who was fighting the Mollem cause.
It is time that all like minded Goans come together to get Goa out of this
third world circumstance.

Time for the demonic one party rule to be kicked out of Goa. In the sub
continent many thousands are dying on a daily basis not 3000 or 4000 as
reported. Millions are infected. New reports suggest that the aid is being
diverted to certain quarters. Those suffering receive no support.
BC

There are increasing calls that the chaiwalla, the chowkidar, the barely
literate man where the buck should stop, be tried at the ICJ for crimes against
humanity.

Massive aid sitting at airports while 23,000 Indians die, is one more crime
against humanity.

Another illiterate, a Chief Minister who is a quack and could be expected to
have a ?gau-mutri? party in Goa any day now after a similar party was held
elsewhere in India where cow?s urine was passed around in glasses and dung
recommended for skin application to prevent Covid, is another minor Nero who
plays the tabla while Goa burns and ventilators which sell for 200K rupees are
bought on taxpayers dime for 800K rupees.

[Goanet] Anglicization of Goans

UK etc have stronger economies therefore Goans live there. Now thousands of
indians after 61 have made Goa their home, they are fluent in Concani alias
Portuguese. Saunsar zalho potho Xri Menezes. O mundo deu uma grande volta!

BC

Every now and then one hears about the influence left behind
by Portuguese empire builders and missionaries for more than
five centuries so much so that it is fashionable to talk and write
about  the Lusitanization  especially as found in the Goan
community.
It would appear that since the temporary occupation of Goa by
the British troops in 1799 Goans in general have been
subjected more to the British influence especially in Bombay
city . Except for the Catholic religion and Iberian surnames
Goans have swallowed wholesale whatever the British had to
offer. Today there are more English speaking Goans than
at any time there were Portuguese speaking Goans. It can be
safely said that for every Goan who talks and writes in
Portuguese  there are at least one hundred Goans  who do so
in English language. Hence the Lusitinazation of Goans  has
given way to the Anglicization who are more at home with
the English language , customs etc.
As a matter of fact  Goans are in overwhelming majority in
countries like the U.K., Canada, USA, Australia etc. than one
would find them in Portugal and Brazil.

I think the massacre happened in 1977. My late father was working in one of
the hospitals in Luanda when my family heard that he had to flee to Lisbon. At
that time it was stated that there was a coup attempt on Agostinho Neto. I
believe it was the Cuban doctors who managed to get him out to safety.

A massacre in Angola that followed a split in the governing MPLA party not
long after independence has been shrouded in secrecy and fear for more than
four decades. But some of those affected are coming together to demand
answers. Jo?o Ernesto Van Dunem was a three-month-old baby when his parents
disappeared. He's been speaking to the BBC's James Menendez.

[Goanet] Support Green Issues in Goa.

2020-09-27 Thread Bernado Colaco
It took ages for Goans to wake up and take up the cudgels. Today many Green
initiatives are taking place all around Goa thanks to the great efforts from
Agriculture Engineer Miguel Braganca, Nestor Rangel and others. Social media
has also greatly helped to spread the good word around.
Recently the Goa Green Brigade and other positive organisations were seen along
the Guirim Highway caring for the coconut trees along the road divider. It is
time for the 'noble' Goan specially the disco youngsters to start dirtying
their hands.
We have so many assets that we are throwing away. The mine industry could have
fed us for generations but it still exists as a primary industry with little in
terms of steel industry. Our coast lines and hills have been devastated with
poor development. Cashew plantations which once dotted these places are now non
existent. Unfortunately what is lacking in these initiatives is funding.
Hopefully overseas Goans will take interest in these events. It is an
opportunity to wrest control of 60 years of failure. (Just take a look at the
roads)

Thanks to Sr. Fonseca for the below link on O Heraldo. now publishing some

newspaper for taking the initiative in its 120 years of publication. O Heraldo
you might know was a Portuguese only daily until the 80's, when the owners
decided to shut down the Portuguese editorial.
Somewhere in the mid 50's my late old man was an editor of the newspaper along
with one Cabral Sa and under the guidance of Dr. Amadeu Prazeres of Orlim,
Salcete. During that period the newspaper had many blank spaces due to
censorship by the PIDE (Portuguese secret police) and the editors were lucky to
escape the wrath of Casmiro Monteiro.
I wish Shri Barbosa the very best in his endeavour. Kitem zalem murre those 60
years of fotioponn has finished. Now Goans have travelled and lived around the
world with Portuguese citizenship and seen for themselves how the world exists.

 Hello,

What baffles me is that even if one or more were outraged at the violence in

Here we have Mao's philosophy being played out in broad daylight, "power

painting houses and doing the roof tops, JAD also looks after a hatchery of 200
pigs.
His daily stint starts at 4.30am with a light breakfast of tea and poe and siit
codi for lunch, and baji for dinner. No alcoholic beverages nor ciggies. JAD is
also a ardent cyclist and circumvents around many adjoining villages depending
upon the calls he gets. He has been asked by his offsprings to retire. But the

he says by the will of God.
JAD is a top example for young Goans for whom dignity of labour is almost non

in public to stem the covid virus. One charvadi tried to mock me. In Portugal
many people are diligent in wearing masks compared to their 'superior' counter

The situtation in Portugal would have been better if some people had not to
muck around without masks. Therefore there was a second wave. In Goa those
super spreaders who had a wild party in Anjuna should have been trashed for not
wearing masks. A few months during the lockdown innocent young passersby who
were looking for food were smashed by the brutal CRPF. But where was the CRPF

[Goanet] In the seventies we lost our play area

2020-08-17 Thread Bernado Colaco
In the early seventies Goa,Daman and Diu witnessed the sudden death of its
first chief minister Dayananda Balcrisna Bandodcar under the new rule (1961).
This CM was at the forefront of the Maharastra wadi Gomantak party and was
seeking the merger of Goa with its northern neighbour Maharastra, which
fortunately did not happen. He was famous among the bahujan samaj or the
downtrodden from the novas conquistas.
After his death they built a memorial for him at the Gaspar Dias or Miramar
beach. For many years the taxpayers had to pay for the policemen who used to
keep vigil at the memorial around the clock. As 12 years old this area was our
playground. It had a rocket slide, see saws and what we called a jantar mantar
in fact was a maze and a giant fish. Unfortunately one fine evening  we saw the
destruction of the jantar mantar and the end of fun in that playing area.
If Aires Rodrigues catagorizes Bandodcar as a great leader, one wonders why
till today Goa lies in third world. Just yesterday tried to make phone
call(landline) to Goa but the calls were not going through. I heard that the
linesman were holding the wires (poor chap) as he tried to connect the calls.

Colin, do not be fooled. History and facts are important and matter.??World Goa
Day was initiated and started by Goa Sudharop. The idea was proposed by
Filomena Giese, co-Founder of Goa Sudharop. Goa Sudharop paid for the initial
set-up (website design, logo, domain, etc,) as one of Goa Sudharop's projects.
I had initially suggested Jan 1 as the date - a new year, a new beginning?for
Goans. The late Jorge Noronha (Portugal) suggested August 20 to coincide with
Konkani being made the official language of Goa (1992). Goa Sudharop heavily
promoted the idea of WGD. Rene was a Goa Sudharop advisor at that time but with
a failure of character Rene brought the?publicity to himself and has never
acknowledged?or corrected the record and promoted WGD as his own, never
contributing a single penny (I hear this is still the case). I personally
drafted many of the publicity emails Rene sent out, including articles for
WGD.? For the record, Goa Sudharop did the initial work to launch?WGD and I pers
onally spent a lot more time than Rene to get WGD off the ground.

2020-07-30 Thread Bernado Colaco
The Portuguese Presence in Goa: Latter Day Thorns admist Tranquilities is a
book written by Sr. Joao Menezes. sold on Amazon. There is also a Kindle
version.--
Today thousands of Goans are Portuguese with or without affiliation to
Portugal. Those Goans who were against Portugal in the 60's turned around to
obtain Portuguese nationality.
BC

With regard to my previous post, here is an important correction:

Out of 80,000 to 100,000 Goans in Bombay at that time, only around 5,000 Goans
wanted Goa to join India. This is contained in the report of the First
Secretary of the Brazilian Embassy, Dr. Jorge de Oliveira Maia, when he visited
Bombay in February, 1956. Furthermore, he has also stated that in his
interviews of the Goans, if it came to the push, the majority were prepared to
return to Goa than abandon Portuguese citizenship. This report puts India in
such bad light that even 66 years later it has prudently not been included in
his book.
The Indian Army entered Goa precisely because Nehru's two satyagrahas in 1954
and 1955 and all other pressures had failed to get the Goans to revolt against
