[JAWS-Users] updating from Jaws 10 to Jaws 12

2012-08-21 Thread Sherri
This seems so elementary and I've done this before, but somehow, Jaws isn't
cooperating.

I am running Jaws 10. I have been lazy and not installed a newer version. My
SMA should carry me through Jaws 12,. When I check in \About it shows I
have two updates remaining. When I click on update it doesn't show Jaws 11
or 12 as a possible update. What do I do to update to Jaws 12? Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Maximizing outlook 2010

2012-08-21 Thread david
Hello there;

3 ways to approach maximizing  the screen;
While in outlook2010.

1, alt+spacebar then the letter x, or up arrow and enter on maximize,
The second way is,
Windows+up arrow,

The third way is,
Find your outlook icon,
Go into properties,
Now tab to,
Run combo box,
Arrow to maximize,
Now tab okay.

Now when you run outlook the screen should always be maximized.
Actually there's one more solution,
Use the program called auto sizer.
Hope this helps.

[JAWS-Users] updating from Jaws 10 to Jaws 12

2012-08-21 Thread Stormin
Sherri, if you are going to the FS website and download the jaws 12 file
from there... One is there is choices of 32 or 64 and just listen carefully
in the one you are down loading.. If you are already pro it will know and
down load pro but if you are up grading to pro, you need to speak to them
that is more of a cost than the standard Jaws.. Your key in place will know
and let you know when you install.
For me I just down load what Jaws I want and then place in my Freedom
Scientific Folder and run from there. I keep only two copies of Jaws.. to
which too is where I run my repairs from too. Geno

[JAWS-Users] configuring punctuation in individual applications

2012-08-21 Thread Sherri
I am using Jaws 12, which I just installed and running Windows XP. I do work
where it is necessary to have all the punctuation read when in Microsoft
Word. It looks like the only way to change punctuation is in the default
configuration settings, but I don't want every application reading
punctuation levels. How do I change punctuation levels for individual
applications? I have been playing with this for quite some time and can't
figure it out. Any help would be appreciated.

It would depend on the version of Windows that you are using. If you
are using 64 bit Windows, then your JAWS would be 64 bit.

There's a difference between updates and upgrades. the procedures are
also different. You have two *upgr ades* remaining on your SMA. You
download an upgrade either from your CD or from the Web site. 64-bit and
32-bit don't predetermine whether you are running JAWS pro or JAWS

Re: [JAWS-Users] configuring punctuation in individual applications

2012-08-21 Thread Flor Lynch
You could customize your punctuation in Microsoft Word. Open its
Settings Center (or JAWS Configuration manager), then choose alt-s for
Settings , p for Punctuation. UNDERSTAND that the customize punctuation
dialogue works counter to how the JAWS general punctuation settings are
spoken. If you customize a sign's punctuation setting to NONE, it means
there in the application you're setting the values for that that
punctuation sign will never be silenced. Conversely, if you were to
customize a particular punctuation sign to ALL, that means that it will
always be silenced where you are setting it. After you have customized
your punctuations in word to your requirements, I would then go and
lower the general punctuation for JAWS. In an application or program,
the customized punctuation settings take precedence over the general
JAWS punctuation settings. Just remember that they work oppositely, (as
eoutlined above). Also be aware that some speech synthesizers are
hard-wired to speak certain signs; the apostrophe ' for example being
one of Eloquence's bugbears.

Try with a different speech synthesizer. Or, you can customize this
punctuation. First, set it to MOST or ALL. then, open the Settings
Center and, in the search field, type punctu or similar. In the list of
result that come up will be customize punctuation. You can press F6 on
it to bring up the dialogue; and change the button to ALL. (This has the
effect of silencing all speaking of the quote sign.) Close, and save
changes.

First, you need Jaws Pro.

Second, if I recall, Jaws won't work well with the virtual Xp Mode.

I am upgrading my Windows 7 home premium computer to a Windows 7 Pro so I
can have the ability to also add XP and use XP for the most part. I know
that when we upgrade to 7 Pro I will have to re-install Jaws, which will of
course use up one of my keys from F.S. Since this system will also have XP,
do I also have to install Jaws in the XP part? If so, this, of course,
would use up 2 keys so wondering if that's what I'll have to do in order to
have both operating systems--two operating systems, 2 separate installs of
Jaws. Hope someone can help.

I had problems getting JAWS to work with the windows 7 xp mode and when I
called FS support I was told that they didn't support JAWS in xp mode. I
ended up installing vmware which once you install the tools works great, for
me anyway. And as with a regular computer if you make any kind of a change
to the virtual machine you have to re-authorize JAWS again, such as changing
memory or adding drives.

[JAWS-Users] JAWS 13 And NERO 10

2012-08-21 Thread Steven Hicks
Hi friends,

I have just purchased NERO 10 on my Microsoft Windows 7 64 bit system and
installed it.
I am having a few problems and just wonder if anyone else is using it
successfully?

1. I can go in to NERO burning rom and select an audio cd. I can browse to
a folder but when I move up and down individual files in a album folder
list, JAWS doesn't read the names, just a graphic number although I can read
them with the JAWS cursor.
2. If I go in to the edit menu then select all then edit, the option to add
the tracks to my audio compilation is greyed out.

Does anyone have any suggestions please?

P.s. I kept getting an object not recognised message initially, until I
selected to run the NERO.EXE as an Administrator in the shortcut properties,
I found this with a Google search.

[JAWS-Users] Format/Navigation Problems in Word 2007 Documents

2012-08-21 Thread Margaret Thomas

Good Afternoon,

I have at least three Word 2007 .doc document that seem to have
developed the same kind of problem. There is
at least one place in all three document where JAWS 13.0.1006 will say
page 49 or whatever on one line and page 51 when I arrow down. If I do
a Control F for find for text in the skipped page, Word finds it.

One particular pesky document is about three pages in which I make note of
appointments and other events. There is a place in the document where
JAWS won't down arrow down past when I'm arrowing down
from the top and won't arrow up past when I go from the very bottom to
the top.

Page up and Page Down won't go past the problem area either. JAWS won't say
anything either way after/the problem area and moving from top to bottom
is like
there is nothing more in the document. Control Home and Control End
work to take
me to the top and bottom of the document and read to end reads the
entire document.
All the problem documents began life on my XP machine before my tech
transferred them to the Win 7 when I got it. The layout on all three
seems to be print at 75%. The documents are maximized and I've rebooted

several times since I noticed the problems.
It dawned on me that I might have somehow started a second column at the
problem
point, but I don't know how to verify it and sighted assistance isn't
available to

look at the documents.

The 2007 ribbons are there, but I'm willing to switch to
the JAWS virtual ribbons. I'm running 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium.

I got a suggestion Try copying the document into NotePad and then copy
the NotePad document
back to Word but it didn't fix the problem in the appointments
document. I copied the document in
notepad and had word wrap checked and saved it under another name as a
.txt file.
I copied it and pasted it in a new Word document. When I arrow down, I
hear page
1 and page 3 on the next line. I repeated the process and tried it with
line wrap
not checked and saved it with a different name as a .txt file. It is
again saying
page 1 and page 3 at the next line at the problem spot. It goes from
events in May
straight to November ones and arrowing down there's no mention of any of
the months

in between. However, if I do a Control F for find Labor Day, Word finds it.

Any help getting these straightened out will be greatly appreciated.

Margaret

There's a difference between updates and upgrades. the procedures
are also different. You have two *upgr ades* remaining on your SMA.
You download an upgrade either from your CD or from the Web site.
64-bit and 32-bit don't predetermine whether you are running JAWS
pro or JAWS standard. You need to purchase JAWS Professional,
perhaps by upgrading to it from JAWS standard, through FS or your dealer.

Re: [JAWS-Users] punctuation in Outlook Express

2012-08-21 Thread Flor Lynch
See the change in subject line, which more accurately refelects what you
say you want. Press JAWSKey+v to get into what used to be called JAWS
Verbosity, now known as Quick Settings. Search for or type punctuation.
Now you can change the level with up/down arrow keys.

Another way is to change your Voice profile in the JAWS basics | Voices
| Voice Adjustment dialogue.

the Customize Punctuation dialogue, to which i referred earlier, allows
you to change or choose which punctuation marks are unspoken and how
often, at the chosen high level. It woirks, and it also works when any
or all other reasonable measures fail. By design in JAWS13 the changes
you make in these dialogues are automatically saved to their
approrpriate settings file(s).

I am using Jaws 12, which I just installed and running Windows XP. I
do work
where it is necessary to have all the punctuation read when in
Microsoft
Word. It looks like the only way to change punctuation is in the
default

configuration settings, but I don't want every application reading
punctuation levels. How do I change punctuation levels for individual

Re: [JAWS-Users] updating from Jaws 10 to Jaws 12

2012-08-21 Thread Steve
Not necessarily. The 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Jaws are separate.
Download the one you need depending on whether you have a 32-bit or 64-bit
version of Windows.

Standard or Jaws pro is not determined by your download of Jaws. It is
determined by your license. The program is the same in either event, so
just get the one that matches the operating system 32-bit or 64-bit.

[JAWS-Users] Spike Feature In Word 2010

2012-08-21 Thread Mike B.
Hi All,

Have any of you heard of the Spike feature in Word 2010? It's explained
below. If this is different from the appending to clipboard feature other
than different keystrokes, would someone please explain the difference?

Have you ever heard of the spike? It lets you select and cut multiple

items to the clipboard, then place them back in your document in the

order in which you want and have placed them on the clipboard. Here's a

simple example of how to use it. Here are three lines of text which are

out of order.

Line 2.

Line 1.

Line 3.

To rearrange them using the spike, select each line in the text above, in

its proper order, one at a time.

After each selection, press ctrl+f3. Repeat this process for the

remaining lines until the text disappears.

Then, press shift+ctrl+f3, and you should see

Line 1.

Line 2.

Line 3.

The spike is a nifty little feature once you get the hang of it.

Take care.

2012-08-21 Thread Flor Lynch

Mike,

The Spike has existed for a very long time in Microsoft word. I think
you may also have explained the differences between it and appending to
your clipboard in your example. You can manipulate the selected (or
spiked) text however you like with the Spike, whereas when you append to
the clipboard it stays the way you appended it till you transfer it to
your target document. that's my undeveloped or rough understanding at
the moment. others may have better explanations. .

Hi

Do the following to have JAWS read all punctuation:

1. From the JAWS menu or window, choose the options menu, then Voices and
then Voice Adjustment. The voice profile for your default synthesizer will
then be open.

2. Tab down to the punctuation level and select all.

3. Tab to the Save as button and press enter. Give the profile a different
name, such as proof reading.

4. If it asks you if you want this new profile to be your default profile,
answer no.

5. Open Outlook express.

6. While in Outlook Express, press JAWSkey+control+s to open the Select a
Voice profile dialog.

7. Tab once and it should say for Outlook Express use default and you'll be
in a combo box.

8. Select the new profile and tab to the OK button and press enter.

Now when you open Outlook Express, it alone will use this new profile.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Spike Feature In Word 2010

2012-08-21 Thread Mike B.
Hi Flor,

The way understood the steps is you used the keystrokes to cut the lines of
text in the order in which you want them to be in the target file. I tried
this in Word 2002 it didn't work. Was I doing it wrong? Probably so!
What I need to try is doing this in Word 2010. But, the steps say to select
the lines of text in the order in which you want them to appear in the
target file. Isn't this what you do when appending to the clipboard? I
understand the appending to the clipboard is a Jaws feature, where the
Strike feature is a Word feature. Am I wrong in my assumption? Thank you
very much for your reply.

Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Format/Navigation Problems in Word 2007 Documents

2012-08-21 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Margaret,

You might want to check under the view tab and make sure zoom is set at 100
percent. Use Alt followed by W to move on to the View tab and then use tab
key across the bottom part of the ribbon. Tab one time past the Zoom button
and you should find a button labeled 100%. Press spacebar on that button.
Go back under the view tab and use tab key to the button labeled one page
and press spacebar. Check the document after doing those things to see if
it still jumps pages.

Take care.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Format/Navigation Problems in Word 2007 Documents

Good Afternoon,

I have at least three Word 2007 .doc document that seem to have developed
the same kind of problem. There is at least one place in all three document
where JAWS 13.0.1006 will say page 49 or whatever on one line and page 51
when I arrow down. If I do a Control F for find for text in the skipped
page, Word finds it.

One particular pesky document is about three pages in which I make note of
appointments and other events. There is a place in the document where JAWS
won't down arrow down past when I'm arrowing down from the top and won't
arrow up past when I go from the very bottom to the top.
Page up and Page Down won't go past the problem area either. JAWS won't say
anything either way after/the problem area and moving from top to bottom is
like there is nothing more in the document. Control Home and Control End
work to take me to the top and bottom of the document and read to end reads
the entire document.
All the problem documents began life on my XP machine before my tech
transferred them to the Win 7 when I got it. The layout on all three seems
to be print at 75%. The documents are maximized and I've rebooted several
times since I noticed the problems.

It dawned on me that I might have somehow started a second column at the
problem point, but I don't know how to verify it and sighted assistance
isn't available to look at the documents.

The 2007 ribbons are there, but I'm willing to switch to the JAWS virtual
ribbons. I'm running 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium.

I got a suggestion Try copying the document into NotePad and then copy the
NotePad document back to Word but it didn't fix the problem in the
appointments document. I copied the document in notepad and had word wrap
checked and saved it under another name as a .txt file.
I copied it and pasted it in a new Word document. When I arrow down, I hear
page
1 and page 3 on the next line. I repeated the process and tried it with
line wrap not checked and saved it with a different name as a .txt file. It
is again saying page 1 and page 3 at the next line at the problem spot. It
goes from events in May straight to November ones and arrowing down there's
no mention of any of the months in between. However, if I do a Control F
for find Labor Day, Word finds it.

Any help getting these straightened out will be greatly appreciated.

Margaret

  Hi

Do the following to have JAWS read all punctuation:

  1. From the JAWS menu or window, choose the options menu, then Voices and
then Voice Adjustment. The voice profile for your default synthesizer
will
  then be open.

  2. Tab down to the punctuation level and select all.

  3. Tab to the Save as button and press enter. Give the profile a
different
  name, such as proof reading.

  4. If it asks you if you want this new profile to be your default
profile,
  answer no.

  5. Open Outlook express.

  6. While in Outlook Express, press JAWSkey+control+s to open the Select a
  Voice profile dialog.

  7. Tab once and it should say for Outlook Express use default and you'll
be
  in a combo box.

  8. Select the new profile and tab to the OK button and press enter.

Now when you open Outlook Express, it alone will use this new profile.

My earlier statement that the Spike feature in Word 2002 didn't work was

These are the instructions from Microsoft;

This article describes how to disable the AutoComplete feature or enable the

MORE INFORMATION
Windows Explorer and the Run box both have AutoComplete capabilities, as in

with the same letters you have typed. The second is where the line you are
typing
is automatically completed if you have typed the same letters before. This
is the Inline AutoComplete feature. The first feature is turned on by
default,
but Inline AutoComplete is not.

To disable the AutoComplete feature in the Address box in Windows Explorer,
and the Address box in Internet Explorer:
list of 3 items
1. Click Start, point to Settings, point to Control Panel, and then click
Internet Options.
2. Click the Content tab, click AutoComplete, and then click to clear the
Web addresses check box.
3. Click OK, and then click OK.
list end
The history of most recently used commands from the Run command on the Start

Mike,

I wasn't sure whether you were using the office Clipboard or the normal
clipboard; but yes, what you indicate is also true. For the normal
clipboard the append To facility is a JAWS feature. You can copy to the
spike as well as cut to it. TBH, though, I haven't had much experience
in comparing and contrasting how these two applications may do the same
things as, or differ from, each other. however, the JAWS clipboard may
be useful in non word programs also. The spike is meant to be used
within Microsoft word and/or other Microsoft office applications.

What I need to try is doing this in Word 2010. But, the steps say to
select

the lines of text in the order in which you want them to appear in the
target file. Isn't this what you do when appending to the clipboard?
I

understand the appending to the clipboard is a Jaws feature, where the
Strike feature is a Word feature. Am I wrong in my assumption? Thank
you

very much for your reply.

Take care.

 Mike,

The Spike has existed for a very long time in Microsoft word. I think
you may also have explained the differences between it and appending
to

your clipboard in your example. You can manipulate the selected (or
spiked) text however you like with the Spike, whereas when you append
to
the clipboard it stays the way you appended it till you transfer it
to

your target document. that's my undeveloped or rough understanding at
the moment. others may have better explanations. .

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Spike Feature In Word 2010

  Hi All,

Have any of you heard of the Spike feature in Word 2010? It's
  explained
below. If this is different from the appending to clipboard
feature

  other
than different keystrokes, would someone please explain the
  difference?

Have you ever heard of the spike? It lets you select and cut
multiple

items to the clipboard, then place them back in your document in
the

order in which you want and have placed them on the clipboard.
Here's

  a

simple example of how to use it. Here are three lines of text
which

  are

  out of order.

  Line 2.

  Line 1.

  Line 3.

To rearrange them using the spike, select each line in the text
above,

  in

its proper order, one at a time.

After each selection, press ctrl+f3. Repeat this process for the

remaining lines until the text disappears.

Then, press shift+ctrl+f3, and you should see

  Line 1.

  Line 2.

  Line 3.

The spike is a nifty little feature once you get the hang of it.

  Take care.
  Mike
