At $308. each, that only accounts for 3 shop hours at a decent body shop. 3 hrs to repair, to paint standard, a rusty fender, is on the low side. Plus, when you are done, it's still a rusty fender under the paint. Even with shipping costs, the $308 figure, IMHO, would be the better investment. Actually, this has more to do with the fact that prices for both rubber and carbon black have been at record highs lately. One time after one of Hank's lengthy diatribes, someone on Banned used a web site that allows you to create your own cartoon strips. They made one up about Hank with a reference to how he used to cook pancakes with crispy edges for the soldiers in Korea. I have a copy of the strip on my desktop machine that I will post to the list when I get home, unless someone beats me to it. In context, it was funny as hell. Not having been around at that time, it loses something in translation... Yup absolutely! WallySams tars are poor. the game is to keep you coming in and buying more there. when I ran their tars, I was in once-twice a year for adjustment/replacement. Once I quit that cycle, I don't buy nearly as many tars. BTW, Kelley generally is a good tire. It is an old brand. I don't know who owns them now. I've been leery about buying Walmart tires since they contract with the mfg'ers. After Sears started selling Michelins, it soon became apparent that the Sears Michelins were inferior to the tire dealer Michelins. Walmart could be doing the same although I haven't heard anything similar about their tires. Along with the spiraling deficit, fuel prices have doubled in the last 3 years and dragged everything with it. There's nothing that gets to the consumer without the use of fossil fuels - often more than once - for instance, a shipboard container, goes on a train then to a truck. Allan 1983 300D 1979 300SD Tire Rack and similar websites seem to have the best prices, but around here at least, the dealers charge higher prices for mounting the mailorder tires such that little or nothing is saved by ordering them. I've seen several simple tire changing machines at Harbor Freight and other sources. Have you or others had any experience with them? I seem to remember prices in the $150 range for the machines which would be paid for after mounting two sets of tires. Re: [MBZ] 83 300SD Vacuum connections
Thanks Rich: There are several open connections on the box that sits on the valve cover. If the CD has the photo diagram that might help me make the hookup. I have two lines and four connectors if I remember correctly. The valve cover was bad so I had to order another one and my memory faded while waiting. Same thing with the fuel linkage, I think I put it together correctly, but a diagram would help. Got a piece of a vacuum line today to replace the one going to the turbo, it was hard a brittle and also broke on valve cover removal. Pieced it together to last night to warm the tranny to change the fluid. The car was a total slug so I don't know it it is vacuum lines, fuel linkage or no turbo.
