FCP Euro used to do it, I don’t think they do any more. [MBZ] 190D cruise control strangeness
I am sorting out this 190D and one of the issues was dead cruise control. When I first got it cruise was completely dead. I pulled the amp and replaced the caps. It would engage sometimes and will hold for a minute or so then would drop out. I pulled the amp again and replaced the solder on every joint. In the mean time I also pulled the instrument cluster to replace the fuel/oil/temp gauge. When I put it back together the cruise does not work at all. I pulled the cluster again and swapped the speed sensor in the cluster with a different one. Took car out again and it seemed to be working perfectly for a minute. If I get the car up to, say, 65 and set the cruise while in 5th gear, it holds that speed fine. After about a minute or so it starts to lose speed gradually. I can tell the cruise is still engages its like the set speed just keeps going down. After the cruise is engaged if I push the stock up to increase speed, it does not increase, it almost acts like the cruise is disengaged until I let go of it then it engages again at whatever speed it dropped to. If I push it forward to cancel, then pull it back to reengage it does not go back to the previously set speed. It seems to engage and whatever speed it dropped to and will hold there then start dropping. When I was on our street car was at about 50 in 4th gear and it seemed to hold fine there. I really need to drive it some more and play with it to get a better idea of its behavior but this is my initial assessment. I took it for a longer drive probably 15 miles or so and it does seem to be doing as described. Sometimes it does seem like it holds speed longer then eventually starts to drop. Accelerate seems to do nothing. I checked the input signals from the stock and they all check out. Don’t know if you have Dick’s Sporting Goods in your part of the world, but they usually run a huge discount on Winchester 12 gauge Gun Club Target Loads 7.5 shot shells on Black Thursday/Friday. I stock up big time then, like buy 10-15 cases (2500-3750 rounds). I think the price is in the $5.00/box range. I’ve still got plenty left this year, guess I need to get out more… On a related note, I went to my local Wally World on Wednesday or Thursday, whatever day it was they announced they would no longer sell handgun ammo. There were people in line to buy ammo there, something I’ve never seen. Some guy was buying up all of their .223 rifle shells. The clerk kept telling him that they weren’t stopping the sale of rifle ammo, but this guy would have none of it. Sounds like Dead sam syndrome. Drive miles and miles to save 40¢, burning dollars of gasoline to "save" 40¢. A woman who worked at the hardware store used to walk 1/2 block to the locally owned drug store to buy a pack of gum. Until wally came to town. Then she drove 6-7 miles to "save" a nickel on a pack of gum. She got very mad at me when I pointed out that she was losing. Dan Penoff via Mercedes wrote on 9/6/19 7:44 PM: So why not join up? Gotcha both, thanks! The guy (dealer) that had the non-turbo started jerking me around this morning when I confirmed a time with him. He started texting me about how there was someone else coming at the same time who said they were bringing cash. I told him I would stand down and let them have dibs, and if they didn’t buy it I would come and look at it. He didn’t like my response. Too bad, this is why I don’t like working with dealers. They’re all a bunch of puffy shirted crooks. But now I have a location, so if I’m still thinking about it I can drive by and see if it’s there. The W210 turbo belongs to some guy who has been spamming FB marketplace with it for the last week. I kid you not, he’s probably posted it 20 different times, every day or so dropping the price a little. I got the VIN but need to run a VMI on it. 1998 E300, white with java interior, 173k on the clock. Looks pretty solid. He’s down to $2500 now after starting out a week or two ago over $3k. If you’ve got FB you can see it here: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/375988949961530/ I may check it out early this coming week. (Safety glasses, polycarbonate) Polycarb is strong, has a halfway decent refractive index, blocks UV, and is cheap. But it likes to warp a bit in the mold and the chromatic aberrations are huge so it's not the right stuff if you value visual accuracy. The stronger the prescription, the worse it gets with different colors focusing differently. Good old CR-39 plastic and crown glass have better focus, (abbe value 58-59) but their low refractive indexes make for thick and heavy lenses. Trivex has a better abbe value (43), but costs more and has a lower refractive index. 1.66 and 1.74 high index plastics have an abbe value of 32, scarcely better than PC's 30. https://www.allentownoptical.com/abbe-value-interpretation/ ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Our Costco is just a couple miles away, and for certain things in their food and clothing, the quality and price are not matched anywhere in town. Only one car in our household (until I get the cabriolet going) that uses gasoline, but the numbers still add up. Plus they have free food samples during the day, and their food court prices are incredibly low. Example: big pack of Italian prosciutto is around $12, same size but lower quality is about $25 at the few grocery stores that carry it. Re: [MBZ] ***SPAM*** RE: Top Tier Diesel
Costco is like any bulk warehouse place - you have to be selective about what you buy, and have it be something you actually use with some frequency. I don’t mind stocking up on a case of TP or paper towels, as I’ve got room for it. I’m not buying loads of food in bulk, but things like the house brand stuff can be a good deal, and for the most part it’s very good. For instance, the frozen pepperoni pizzas (4-$10) are very good, and far less expensive than the junk in the grocery stores that costs far more. They have good deals on bulk cheese, too. However, their fresh chicken and beef are no deal, and can even be pretty outrageous. A couple Christmas seasons ago I was in line behind someone that had $400 of beef tenderloins. I get the exact same stuff from a local farmer’s market that supplies all the restaurants in town for less than half that. Granted, it’s in a lousy neighborhood, but I can go there and spend $100 on fresh meat and it’s easily twice the amount of what I would get elsewhere. -D > On Sep 7, 2019, at 11:35 AM, Max Dillon via Mercedes > wrote: > > Our Costco is just a couple miles away, and for certain things in their food > and clothing, the quality and price are not matched anywhere in town. I go to a great ophthalmologist. They have a store in house, but don't make you use it. he just prints out the Rx and I can get it filled anywhere. I've been buying the "industrial quality eye protection" with titanium frames from wally land. (Safety glasses, polycarbonate) Mitch Haley via Mercedes wrote on 9/6/19 6:48 PM: That's kind of what I figured. You want to order glasses, they're probably going to want to file all the info under your member number. $150ish for 1.67 index digital lenses is a great price, but I just learned the market price is down around $300-500 these days. I still thought of them as $1000 lenses from when they came out about ten years ago. Wish I knew a good optician who doesn't want a big markup and has the equipment to measure my eyes for high def lenses. My old guy wasn't equipped for that, and he shut down the store suddenly instead of selling it. His prices were about half of RX Optical etc. Now the only opticians I can find want too much money for everything. My ophthalmologist doesn't dispense, so I get my insurance paid glasses from RX and buy extras from the Chinese internet houses. The turbo motor has stronger rods and the wrist pins are a couple mm bigger diameter. It has truly modern performance and good turbo spool because the turbine is tiny. Great motor. You can send the pump for bigger elements and get a controller from baldur in Iceland to tune the car up a bit, if desired. It is a mechanical pump with electronic rack control. Turbo motor is 606.962. Non turbo is .961 I believe. Re: [MBZ] Glasses WUZ:Top Tier Diesel
Mine is a couple of blocks away from my office downtown. A quick in and out for my annual exam, and I leave with my script. Only thing I don’t get is my PD, but Costco does that and provides it to me when I get glasses there. And it’s not like it’s something that will change… I had a neighbor who is an optometrist. She had a very active practice in a high end neighborhood nearby. Everyone we knew went to her. When you came out of the exam room, you got dumped into what I called the “showroom” where a couple of hotties would immediately try and sell you on designer frames with ten different coatings, etc, etc. I always excused myself using the reason that I had to get back to work and would return at a later time. I got my script, but no PD. One of my neighbor buddies’ wife went there and left with an $800 bill for a pair of glasses. He was livid. He swore revenge. The optometrist and her dirtbag husband (another story for another day) used to have neighborhood parties al the time, typically quite lavish affairs such as “casino nights”, for example. There would almost always be a large spread of food with a big pile of boiled shrimp being part of it. My neighbor buddy would go, pull up a chair to the serving table in front of the shrimp, and just plow through them. That was how he was getting his $800 dollars back. He did this every time they had a party to the point where it became a regular thing. And the optometrist never knew why - but everyone else did. -D > On Sep 7, 2019, at 9:14 AM, Curley McLain via Mercedes > wrote: > > I go to a great ophthalmologist. Not in my case. Having to buy premium gas for my cars I save anywhere from $0.20-$.30/gallon over the ripoff gas stations around here, and the Costco is on our commute, so none of us even go out of our way to stop there. In fact, it’s even more convenient than the closest WaWa or other gas retailer, as they’re not on our commute route. The wife doesn’t do a good job of planning at times, so occasionally she’ll hit the Mobil station that’s down the street if she didn’t have time to stop at Costco. She’ll put a splash in the tank to get her to the Costco in the morning. The Mobil premium is typically about $0.30/gallon more than Costco if not more at time. I get your point, however. -D > On Sep 7, 2019, at 9:22 AM, Curley McLain via Mercedes > wrote: > > Sounds like Dead sam syndrome. I just went thru the board again. I found a couple of points that I redid that were light on the solder. I also found a spot where some loose solder flakes might have potentially been connecting 2 points. I double checked to make sure I had the polarity correct on the caps. Tomorrow I am going to run thru the test procedure for the actuator then give it another shot. I might just start sending the things to that dude on peach parts that fixes them.
