I don't have knowledge, but in so far as my knowledge goes, I've done a bit of furkling. Here, the menus on the left show briefly on loading, but are then overwritten by a blank pane. Looking at the source, (F8) it seems to teem with JavaScript indeed; StrongED reports "79 hits on 49 lines". I also looked on their FAQ page, on which is: To enjoy most of our content your browser must also be set to the following options: JavaScript enabled ActiveX enabled (Internet Explorer only) Pop-ups allowed from www.qvcuk.com So it looks as if it's a Dark Side only site, and that they have done the dreaded "In the interests of product improvement we reserve the right to foul it up at any time". There is a feedback option on the page, which of course doesn't work, and also a Contact Us option at the bottom, which does, but I fear that trying to persuade them that they've sinned might activate the GM again :-) Some sites have a "mobile" option, which sometimes works with NetSurf, but I can't see such a one there. Shrunken search box in Wikipedia.
This is with the build in netsurf-2012-10-06_21-20-50/zip and on an ARMini, RISC OS 5.19, (16 May 2012). On http://www.wikipedia.org/ the search box, to the left of the menu where you choose the language, is now rather less that two characters wide. It's the normal size using NetSurf 2.9, so this has obviously crept in with the new series of builds. Would this be easy to fix? I for one would be grateful if it were. Also, I had been expecting task windows to open, which added to the mystification. If I can get a round tuit (or preferably someone who understands things better could get one of those), would there be interest in adding bits to the program, similar to the bits I had in my old script? What these did is: 1) Copy the old NetSurf as Old_NS (note the lack of pling) and then delete the old app. 2) Do sequential deletes and copies so that the last three zips are kept for backup. 3) Open the new zip and copy out the app to the directory in which the script is. I have just downloaded #672 and ran it. I was horrified at the hash it made of my homepage, which is http://m.bbc.co.uk/news I reverted to #671, and it looks the same there. Bug tracker misbehaving.
I've just wasted quite a bit of time trying and failing to report a bug using RISC OS NetSurf #749; yes, I did remember to disable JavaScript! The attempt to upload the report produced an obscure error message in a NetSurf page, and I regret I forgot to record this. The report has duly been sent via Windows Firefox. A happy New Year to the developers, whose efforts are greatly appreciated. With best wishes, Peter. -- Peter Young (zfc Ta) and family Prestbury, Cheltenham, Glos. It works faultlessly here. One of the problems seems to be that there are several different version of it knocking around. I can't see anything in the Help file that says I couldn't send my working copy to Brian; does anyone know better? Possibly relevant: In the Help file here, it says, "Lastly, if the variable Fetch_NS$Install$Dir is set, it will install and start the version just retrieved". Where this variable is set depends on which version you have. Here, that is set in !Fetch_NS's Choices directory, in !Boot.Choices, in the file called Settings, which is run by !Fetch_NS.!Run, and it reads: Set Fetch_NS$Install$Dir .^ but I can't remember how I set it! This installs NetSurf in the parent directory of Fetch_NS, which is where I keep all my internet stuff. It's an invaluable app, but the method of setting it up isn't obvious to the uninitiated! As supplied, the app sets a directory specific to the author in the Resources.Defaults file , and you have to comment this line out With best wishes, Peter. -- Peter Young (zfc Ta) and family Prestbury, Cheltenham, Glos. I've been trying to post this to the bug tracker: [quote] NetSurf #942 and ARMini, RISC OS 5.19 (16 May 2012). Trying to access http://www.document-records.com/ fails. Or if you are paranoid about having visible passwords on your system, CrypStor by Frank de Bruijn will store passwords encrypted. You can export these passwords as a text file, then drag and drop the relevant one into NetSurf, then delete the export file. It's at http://aconet.org/crypstor/ I didn't find it totally intuitive to start with, but I now find it extremely useful. Probably OT here, though. I don't know if you're seeing the same thing as I am, but the URL https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=add&group_id=51719&atid=464312 used to take you to the "add a bug" page (Can't remember what the correct name is), but it now takes you to the list of bugs instead. This has, as you say, no obvious way of adding a bug. I did try this URL in Windows Firefox, and the same thing happens there. Is there a way we can help the developers by reporting bugs now? So there is! I did try logging in to see if it made a difference, but didn't notice the "Create ticket". Presumably this means that people without a Sourceforge account can't submit bug reports any more, which is a pity, At least they now have "Save" instead of that awful "Add artifact"! And here too, but what I get from that URL is my pre-checkout page, where I have to put in my password. Could Brian perhaps post a screenshot of what he's seeing? BTW, the box for entering the e-mail address on the pre-checkout page is very small. No problem for me, as Amazon store my address, so it's already filled in. Is that worth a bug report? FWIW Windows Firefox gives the same "Can't find" error for the first URL, but the second one loads, via MPro and UniLaunch, the bit before the square brackets, from which the MimeMap file can be found. So it looks as if NetSurf might be able to solve the second one, if someone would like to report the bug, for such it would seem to be.
