The three licenses (End-User, IBM, LGPL) have to be accepted before purchasing the software. Yes, audio samples, benchmark would be better. In fact, Voxin has been firstly built because some visually impaired persons have been looking to Viavoice (for ages). Besides it, the IBM licence does not allow to broadcast online audio samples. Most interesting for me is the response time of the keyboard echo (which in oralux is only acceptable with the kernel supported speech synthesizer. So the same speech synthesizer was most responsive with SpeakUp, is not it? Hello, If the process hangs during hardware detection, you could try at boot time (the first beep): knoppix noapic acpi=off As you may know, Oralux is no more developed. If you meet issues with 0.7 alpha it might be worth to try a more recent distro with speech feedback. For info, the expected behaviour in 0.7 alpha when everything works is: * a first beep which informs the user that the boot prompt is displayed. * after 30 seconds, the linux kernel and then the knoppix autodetection of hardware starts (so your machine specifications on screen) * and finally a beep followed by a pre-recorded message. after this second beep, the user can selects his speech system: speech dispatcher in English or other solutions (Multispeech, ...). Nevertheless, most of the solutions which were included in the CD are still developed elsewhere by the upstream authors, so you can in principle find them in major distro (for example Ubuntu, Debian or others,...). The eSpeak text-to-speech offers a Swedish voice. eSpeak is not present in Oralux 0.7 alpha. If you are interested in you may test eSpeak under MS-Windows using the NVDA screen reader or under GNU/Linux using the Orca screen reader. Under Linux, you have also text-based solutions compliant with eSpeak (Emacspeak, Speakup, yasr). Is there any way to resolve this? Also, I do have access to both an alva and a braillenote, but only via USB. Is there a way to tell the brltty to use that? In such a situation, no sound, it would be worth to try a more up to date distro. Otherwise, you may try an external usb audio card. I do not checked this, but if I remember well, the brltty release embedded in 0.7 is usb compliant. The options might be supplied at boot time, or in the Oralux preferences menu, when you choose the port of the braille device. At boot time, the expected syntax would be: knoppix brltty=al,usb:,us with a recent brltty these parameters are no more useful. Ce travail bénéficie beaucoup de Cicero TTS qui fournit déjà des règles de conversion du texte en phonèmes. Elles sont écrites sous forme d'expression régulières cependant (eSpeak utilise une autre syntaxe pour les fichiers fr_rules / fr_list) et le jeu de symboles pour les phonèmes de Cicero (c'est à dire les phonèmes SAMPA pour MBROLA) est légèrement différent du jeu de symboles eSpeak. Les auteurs de Cicero offre une liste de vérification de 622 mots et la transcription phonétique associée. Ainsi les régressions sont mesurées grâce a cette liste. Actuellement, plus de 88 pour cent de ces mots sont correctement converti par eSpeak en français. Cicero offre aussi une liste de 1 mots en français et le projet LLiaphon une liste de 8 mots. Les règles de Cicero concernent les mots les plus couramment utilisés en français, et leur sélection est très pertinente. Comme cet ensemble de mots varie cependant en fonction du profil utilisateur, à long terme, nous pourrions peut-être étendre les règles. This work benefits a lot from Cicero TTS which already provides text to phonemes rules. They are written as regular expressions though (eSpeak expect another syntax in fr_rules, fr_list), and the set of symbols for the Cicero phonemes (that is SAMPA phonemes from MBROLA) is slightly different from the eSpeak symbols. The Cicero authors offers a checklist of 622 reference words and their phonetic translation, so that regressions can be measured using this list. At the moment, more than 88 per cent of these words are correctly converted using eSpeak in French. Besides it, Cicero provides a list of 1 French words, and the LLiaphon project a list of 8 words. The Cicero rules focus on the most commonly used French words and they are cleverly selected. As the set of common words may vary according to the user profile, in the long run, we could perhaps extend these rules. I hope that the main rules will be written today. Next question: Automatically repeat the pressed key This question means do you prefer to hold a key for repeating it, otherwise do you prefer to type it several times? I pressed ENTER: after a timeout, the hold key will be automatically repeated. Thereafter once Emacspeak is launched, it is possible to press for example Control h Control e with one finger. Yes some of the features written by Igor B.Poretsky are now in the Emacspeak repository: the Multispeech extension and the xslt transformations for w3m. There were other features. Hello Doug, I believe that we could build a cursus targeting the LPI 101 exam. As we will need a lot of time for building such courses, we could firstly select a significant but little subset of lessons, say 20 percent of the required cursus. If the lessons are cleverly selected, they could be helpful for new users and we will gain in practice with such services. So a first step would be to read some LPI 101 courses, and select our top 20% lessons. A second step, would be to select an e-learning system, such as claroline, moodle,... You can use arecord if you are using ALSA or othewise vsound using OSS.
If the /proc/asound directory exists, this indicates an ALSA driver.
You may also list the loaded drivers using lsmod and check if the
audio driver name starts with snd_.
The lines below concern ALSA.
The capture volume by default can be zeroed, or a capture switch can
be muted on your card. Usually alsamixer, amixer or alsactl can be
used to change these settings.
Check please if arecord can capture a wav file played by aplay.
For example, this line (it is splitted below):
aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav arecord -f dat -D hw:0
/tmp/fic.wav
With this command, arecord will run forever, so the ctrl-c will
be needed.
Usually if the result is a silent wav file, the volume is equal to
0 or the capture is mutted. The related tools are alsamixer (it uses
ncurses though), amixer or alsactl.
For storing the current configuration to /tmp/alsa.conf:
alsactl -f /tmp/alsa.conf store
Each device in the sound card will be detailled.
Then you may want to look at the capture keyword in this file.
Here for example:

The 'PCM Capture Volume' is equal to 78 for the left and right
channels.

The aim is to improve efficiency, scalability and be more contributor

SVNtrac offers a ticket tracker, a wiki and a Subversion browser.
Its web pages rarely rely on Javascript and its forms are relatively
light. At the moment, it is installed in English only.
The visitor will create a ticket for notifying an issue (bug, erroneous
document) or a request for enhancement (new documentation, new
feature,...).
SVNtrac offers 'Reports' for retrieving tickets.
