RE: Lightroom vs Sigma 18-250 question
I 'solved' my problem by editing the CameraRaw.dll. Overwrote a lens I won't ever have with my information and set the lens id to '8 8'. CameraRaw, although it reads the .lcp files, doesn't use that information on import as far as I can tell. It uses its internal idea of lenses for that. Seems like a silly design error since everything they need is already in the index.dat file for the lenses. FYI for anyone who wants to plays with these profiles, they are stored in 3 possible places. AppData, ProgramData and Program Files on Win7/8. The ones in ProgramData arrive there if you have PS or PSE. Thank you Peter for getting me started in the right direction. Actually it started in Mimico and went to Long Branch, I think. Haven't seen our parade since I moved here a few years ago, and I have to admit, it was pretty good! Somewhere between the cozy folksiness of your parade and the huge commercialism of the downtown parade. We actually had the real Grey Cup and the Argo mascot and cheerleaders at ours (but no players near as I could tell)! Got hundreds of pix (if you count bracketting) but I haven't sifted through them yet. If I ever do I might post here. Love your shots, though. Are Pentax chargers glued or snapped together?
We are getting ready for a 90 day cruise and have to bring a WG2 and a K5 charger along. Also a K100D but it uses aa rechargeables. Not wanting to pack 2 cords, let alone use 2 outlets in a cabin that usually only has one. I thus want to drive 2 chargers off 1 cord, with a bit of soldering and then glueing the 2 together. We'll again probably be the only Pentax shooters on the ship of 1200 ppl. On last years World Voyage we were the only ones on the ship with Pentax cameras visible. Re: Are Pentax chargers glued or snapped together?
An alternative that may solve part of your problem: Pearstone.com has a Compact Battery Charger with many different cradle modules available; I have one that works with the K5 D-L190. It plugs directly to the wall with no cord. (It also has a USB port so that you can charge any USB-powered gadget at the same time.) They also sell NIMH AA compact chargers that similarly plug directly to the wall. You still would be using two outlets and two different charging units but at least you wouldn't need to carry cords . . . stan On Dec 2, 2012, at 11:20 AM, Gerrit Visser wrote: We are getting ready for a 90 day cruise and have to bring a WG2 and a K5 charger along. I thus want to drive 2 chargers off 1 cord, with a bit of soldering and then glueing the 2 together. We'll again probably be the only Pentax shooters on the ship of 1200 ppl. Re: Help!--with udate--and now pics
Hi Christine Gang: Well, I have a Lexar card reader, which attaches to the computer via USB. For the last several years, I have been using this kit to import from card into Lightroom. It's been easy-peasy, except for last night . I'm going to pitch those cards--they were el-cheapos anyway. I just ordered super fast Lexars from B H Photo; I should be fine. The lens issue is really more serious, and I think I need to send it in for a tune-up as it were. I've had the lens since late 2007 or early 2008, not sure which exactly. I bought it shortly after I got the K10D, so we've been buddies for a long time and through 4 DSLRs: K10D, K20D, K-7, and now the K-5. This is my very first issue-moment, so I can't complain. The overall quality of the entire group of photos shot at last night basketball game is TOTAL CRAP, and I'm not being modest here--it's just the darn truth, though I did manage to get 5 photos out of about 280 frames. I was hoping for 15, but no luck. Still, the who situation has me revved up to tend to my aging kit and get back to the pleasurable rythmn of photography. Time to stop making excuses! It was a tough night for the Truman Falcons. The first thing to say is our poor little team consists of 6 players total! And last night, a player was injured early in the game. The five remaining players played heroically. No substitution was possible naturally, but they hung in there. The final score was something like 80 to 110, which I think is great considering the situation. I only wish I could have had a better photo outing. Our Falcons had some nice runs and plays, but they were really huffing and puffing. Here's the five photos I was able to salvage. I'll, of course, share with the team. http://www.caguila.com/trcbball12%2D2%2D2012/index.html I really pushed the sharpening here. Any objections let me know. No problem. :-) Thanks for everyone's quick response. It's so great to be part of a creative community where you can get help like this. I'm so lucky to have found PDML. K-mount 50mm f/1.4 or f/1.2
My 50mm f/1.7 is my favourite lens, but I'd love to try a 1.4 or even a 1.2, for the extra light. But the prices! I have no use for an A-model lens, but even so, the prices for used lenses are shocking, with the 1.2 models quite extraordinary. Were these much more expensive when they were new, or are they just more rare? Re: Advice on Selection of Macro Lens
When someone says without getting too pricey it is hard to know what the means to them. Later in this thread the OP says that the DFA 100mm f2.8 would be good, so assuming that is not too pricey. If that's not too pricey, then I think that is your lens. For any Pentax lens, you can do some comparisons on the Pentax Photo Gallery. Just click the camera and lenses link in the upper right. You can select a lens without selecting a body. This will allow you to check the various perspective, bokeh, etc. Obviously, this will only work for Pentax lenses, but you can go way back to Takumars there, if you like. The DFA 100mm macro: http://www.pentaxphotogallery.com/photos/gallery/query?camera=lens=130 One option I'll throw out there for you, if you are considering popping for a DFA100 macro. You might want to also consider the Pentax-F 100mm f2.8 macro. It will cover full frame (obviously) if you hope for a future Pentax FF model or still shoot film on occasion. One reviewer who previously owned the DFA says the F is faster on the autofocus. ( http://www.pentaxforums.com/lensreviews/SMC-Pentax-F-100mm-F2.8-Macro-Lens.html ) It also has a focus range limiter, which the DFA lacks (and some have missed). Best of all, when the are offered they usually go in the $400-500 range, which represents a significant savings over the DFA. (They aren't offered often, but one sold on that infernal auction site within the past 30 days for a $430 BIN.) I got mine for effectively free when I found a P-Z1 kit with multiple lenses, flash and accessories and sold off the other stuff to keep the F100. Due to life going to hell in a handbasket, I haven't gotten to use it much yet, but I'm glad to have it in my arsenal. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

RE: Are Pentax chargers glued or snapped together?
The challenge is that there is only one NA style 110 socket and then a recessed EU 230 socket to work with. The recessed one will barely take an NA type adapter. The cord actually helps as it gets the charger off the desk. (we have spent 8 months on this class of ship so far in the past 4 years so we are used to the peculiarities of the constraints). On further reflection I think that we will take 1 cord plus the 3 different chargers and stagger the recharging effort. My K5 has very good battery life, the WG2 won't see a lot of action until we get to snorkelling areas and my wife's K100D also is easy on batteries. We have spare batteries for all 3 cameras. He's given me relatively good quality 3.5-to-stereo cable and that was the whole deal. The NAD still cannot accept digital sound, so why bother? Might be something to do with me holding out in the classic view as I didn't like the new IOS-style interface. Go to the View menu at the top and switch Organize by Conversation. It's already active. But it's been broken since the Lion upgrade: the threading mostly works but I often get messages from a thread that are displayed individually, or even small groups of them as a separate thread. It's a bit annoying because it often means seeing followups to PESOs before the original post. Re: Are Pentax chargers glued or snapped together?

Also a K100D but it uses aa rechargeables. Not wanting to pack 2 cords, let alone use 2 outlets in a cabin that usually only has one. I thus want to drive 2 chargers off 1 cord, with a bit of soldering and then glueing the 2 together. I always take a multi-adaptor when travelling. But that will mean taking two cords :) Dave -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: Help!--with udate--and now pics
I liked all. No objections at all for your post processing, as can be seen on screen. (As if I knew better!) For the last several years, I have been using this kit to import from card into Lightroom. It's been such a fun part of my life. I've never seen that error message in LR... What do I know, but I move files from card to drive, then import from drive to LR... so LR never has to read anything off a card... I've experienced sluggish focusing with my 16-50 especially when the batteries are less than fully charged... could that have been a factor? On the bright side, sounds like you've got your list for Santa just about figured, though. : -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
