So far I've only played with it a little bit, but the first thing to strike me was just how much more control there was in ACR compared to the rudimentary implementations in PSE3 or Lightroom V1. It's going to take me a little while to learn how to use all the new features. Then I'm going to have to go back and reconvert some old images ... I assume that I'll get at least as much control in Lightroom V2; that's going to get installed on the new machine, too. But that will almost certainly have to wait until I get back from the UK. There are a lot of other new-to-me things in PSE7, so I've got more than enough learning to do before I even think about Lightroom. John, I got a great discount on Lightroom 2.4 thru one of the 'educator' vendors. You need a student or teacher ID, but my daughter-in-law teaches special ed. I'm in the process of switching over to a new machine. I was planning to upgrade both Lightroom and Photoshop Elements to the latest version, but Adobe just made the decision a little trickier - I can upgrade from Elements to CS4 for only $299. Assuming I stick with Lightroom (so the organizer part of CS4 isn't going to offer me a great deal, and I won't have any use for Camera Ra)) what are the additional features of CS4 that I might find useful? Or should I just stick with Elements V7? -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: OT?? Elements 7 and Vista
I have PSE 6 on a laptop right now. Assuming that editors are configured the same way in v7 as in v6, I have two suggestions: One is that she doesn't have PS installed, and have configured elements to always use an external editor. The menu option in PSE6 is Edit>Preferences>Editing...> where you can tick off for using a supplementary editor, and then supply the path to that program. Another is that Vista's User Control blocks PSE from starting PS, but then she should get a telltale warning message from the OS when trying to launch PS. hth, Jostein 2009/3/19 David J Brooks : > Any one using this combo. > > One of the horse show organizers i deal with bought elements 7 and has > problems with it. Elements 6 Strangeness
I'd very much appreciate help with a PSE6 "eyedropper" problem. This AM I isolated a blank sky area, applied the eyedropper, got the marching ants around it and pumped the blue a bit. After printing, I noticed a faint ghost like grid over the intire sky. Examined the screen image and, also, found it there. Have done this eyedropper thing a few times without this problem. Thanks to anyone who would pass along even an idea as to what the problem might be. ITMT, I'll do some more reading. Photoshop Elements 5.0 problems
I've got some 4,100 files and 46 GB in my catalogue with PS Elements 5.0. After I put the last batch of pictures in, something has gone wrong. I put 3x-2GB SD cards from a recent trip into the catalogue - all DNG files from the K10D. Now when I modify the DNG's and create jpegs, it doesn't save the pictures in stacks. Although the Save As shows the 'save in a version set with the original' checked, it doesn't. In fact, I have to go get the files manually and import them individually! Have I overloaded the capacity of this software or what? Any PS Elements 5.0 users seen this type of behavior and know how to correct it? Re: slightly confused -Elements 5
Check the version on the Camera Raw plugin. You should have at least v3.7 installed. Even though you downloaded the current PSE5 package, it probably didn't include the Camera Raw v3.7 release, and replaced the version of the plugin that you had when you did the installation. The reason for this is that the installation package for PSE5 preceded the existence of the Camera Raw v3.7 plugin. Vendors only rarely revise the installation package of an existing software package due to the cost of testing. Either that or the issue is some kind of Windows registry issue that you need a knowledgeable Windows user to guide you through setting up correctly. I don't know from that stuff... ;-) Godfrey On Jun 27, 2007, at 2:36 PM, cbwaters wrote: > well, I downloaded the software upgrade from Adobe Vs buying in a > store so I > figured it would have all the latest updates... > I just tried to import the photos to my library using PSE3 and it's > no-go as > well. In a message dated 6/27/2007 2:42:05 P.M. Pacific Daylight Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Should I be able to put a card full of PEF files into my reader, expect Elements to see images, import them, and see them in my library? = Yes. But you have to set it up to do so. I've used 2, 3, and 5. It will be similar but not necessary the same as 5. Edit/Preferences/Camera Card Reader/check Auto Launch Adobe Downloader upon Device Connect. It will be something like that. I have now, since I have Lightroom, unchecked that and checked something similar in Lightroom, but it doesn't seem to be working. Anyway, when you stick a card into whatever card reader you have, Elements should launch a Get Photos dialog box. You can also do it manually, Organizer (don't remember if 3 had an Organizer, but think so, under File I think, Get Photos.) Note that there are two steps to Get Photos, one step copies it to hard disk, and one step copies the photos into Element's "library" of photos (they are not actually put on disk at that point, just imported as pictures into the library). So sometimes you have to hit Get Photos twice. I wish in my query about the benefits of shooting PEFs or DNgs somebody would have said something about this PITA. Or maybe it's just that I don't understand the process... CW = Normally, with Elements, you go to open a file, try the file browser, and if it's RAW then the bridge is launched when you open the file. It converts the RAW into a PSD essentially, although the file name will remain a RAW file name. It should launch automatically when you open a RAW photo. And/or from Organizer, select a photo, and go to full edit at the top (menu bar) and it will do the same, launch the bridge. (I hope all this was similar in 3, think it was, but no longer remember that well.) I feel pretty good about this new rendering. And I appreciate your suggstions for further improvements: Clone out the green CA in the oystercathers chest, I will probably do that, and I will also look into darken the third bird a tiny bit. I also feel very good about Elements now. To use it, without geting cold sweat inside my hands. Thats almost better than sex ;-) (I'm obviously geting older (-; ) Now I'll look into the other two in the series. See what I can come out with, without suggestions from the list. If I find a good rendering of them, I will print them and hang them in one frame. The idea is to use this documentation of the hard and brutal reality as a contrasti to some more romantic pictures. There is a wall waiting for me in this cofee bar... I don't expect to sell any of the Heavy Weather pictures, but I need to make this statement. In fact I will be very happy if I sell any pictures at all. None of them are stunners. I do like this better. I'd be careful about any saturation thoughts you might have. I didn't go back to your original version, but this "seems" to show a little more pebble color.(?) Re: Result of my Elements strugles
Yes, Tim! That gets the idea across much more effectively: the background does not compete with the foreground subject, gives the notion of an individual bird enduring heavy snowfall effectively ... representative of many birds with the figures in the background. Re: Result of my Elements strugles
Yes it's an improvement. I would make the background darker and remove the green CA. If it's more grey/darker the bad/heavy weather is more "visible". This one is a rather dark soft edged "blob". I have a bulb and will give it a try. Appreciate all your help. Thanks, Godfrey. My spot fits your dust description, thankfully, and I'll be going for the squeeze bulb. Dust specks are shadows, they show dark but usually have a soft edge that spans several pixels. Hot pixels are pixels which are always lit, they show up bright. There are also dead pixels, which show up dark. G On Mar 2, 2007, at 5:06 PM, Jack Davis wrote: > Thanks, again. Elements 5.0 Tools Missing
I am not totally sure but I believe a hot pixel will render white and a dead pixel will render black. As far as dust, most dust spots will cover more than one pixel and tend to show as oof blobs, sometimes quite large. That is where the blower bulbs are really handy. I have had to clean both my sensors with the blower several times, including the K10D. Fortunately I have been totally successful to date! No pixel problems with either camera. Re: Elements 5.0 Tools Missing
Thanks, again. Walter. While I have your attention, let me ask; is a hot pixel show as dark or light? Is a dust speck dark or light? Have just noticed my first dark speck which I've duplicated several times just to be certain. I've applied "dust removal", also several times, and can't seem to shake it Jack --- Walter Hamler <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Several of the tools are like that, with hidden menu items under the > icon. > > Walt > > -- > PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List > PDML@pdml.net > http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net > Never Miss an Email Stay connected with Yahoo!
