I am running SB Server Version: 7.6.1 - r33110 on a NAS (QNAP 219P+). I installed Moose ver0.76c on a Windows XP system. On that Windows system I can only see folders that are shared by the QNAP NAS. How can I share folders that lie lower than the ones that are shared? Thanks in advance! Hi Larry, Never used a NAS box myself, but to access the cache you'd need to share some part of the /opt/ssods4/var/home/SqueezeboxServer/ path and access that from windows. There should be a way of sharing paths in the NAS's gui.. It's usually done via samba or something like that, but there'll be a friendly way of doing it. If you shared the ssods4 folder as 'ssods4', and your NAS box was on IP 192.168.1.10, you'd then access the cache folder in moose via: \\192.168.1.10\ssods4\var\home\SqueezeboxServer\Cache Hope that helps, -- - Dr Lovegrove http://www.rusticrhino.com/drlovegrove http://groups.google.com/group/moosenews ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

For the past few years, versions of the server prior to 7.6.0 used MySQL. For 7.6.0 it switched to using SQLite. You dont need to do anything to the server to change, it's all built into it. In theory SQLite requires less memory and CPU, especially with smaller libraries, so it's ideal for making the server perform better on NAS boxes, etc.. However, SQLite doesnt have network support, so to access the database from another machine you have to share the library.db file via folder sharing, etc.. Moose supports both MySQL and SQLite, it's just a case of telling it which to use and pointing it at the relevent files. In Moose all the action happens in the scanning tab of the options dialog. If you've already got Moose talking to your server and dispaying now playing information for a player, you can hit the 'guess database' button (in the scanning tab) and it'll set some of the options for you. The important thing with SQLite is to make sure the path to the database is set up correctly. The 'guess' button's value uses the server's local path to the .db file, so (on windows anyhow) you usually get something like this: c:\programdata\squeezebox\cache\library.db If your server is on a different machine to moose, you'll need to ammend this. As an example, if your server is on a remote machine with IP address 192.168.1.1 and you've shared 'c:\programdata\squeezebox\' as 'bob', you need to alter the sqlite path's value to: \\192.168.1.1\bob\cache\library.db Note that it's a good idea to share the squeezebox folder rather than the cache folder as the cache folder can get deleted when doing a clean.. Some of the columns are resizable and some are auto-sizing.. The idea was to eliminate wasted space and not require a horizontal scroll bar.. 2009/11/16 usch usch.41q1k01258337...@no-mx.forums.slimdevices.com: Very nice job, I like it. However, I have a couple of wishes/complaints, too: 1) The program crashed after scanning the database.. This was probably caused by Moose trying to write moose.moo and the thumbs folder to the program directory, which is read-only if not running with administrator rights. I created a Moose folder under %APPDATA% and specified that as the path for both, which solved the problem. I think it would be a good idea to set that as a default. Yes, I'll make sure it warns and suggests rather than erroring and crashing. Not sure it's a good idea defaulting to %appdata% without adding an installer/deinstaller.. Nothing worse than apps which leave cache files and the like all over the place.. 2) Player names with national characters don't display properly. The Boom in my Kitchen (Küche in German) shows up with an undefined glyph placehholder instead of the ü. Ahh, not something i've tried.. I'll sort this.. 3) Would it be possible to use the regular Windows GUI for the program and dialog windows, title bar, title bar buttons, window frame, menus etc. instead of that self-made one? Pretty please? :) My graphics driver can add its own buttons to title bars (move to next monitor, move to next desktop, maximize across all monitors etc.) which doesn't work with non-standard windows. Right-Click on the title bar should bring up the system menu, which doesn't work either. And I am constantly maximizing the main window when I meant to minimize it, because the two buttons are swapped compared to the regular windows GUI - if possible, the leftmost button should always be minimize. Well.. It should probably be optional.. The problem with the standard windows stuff is it doesnt allow for custom buttons in the title bar.. So having a minimise and a minimise to tray just isnt possible and any hacks to make it so look pretty dodgy on win7 et al.. But maybe minimise should just be minimise to tray anyhow.. 4) Every time I open the library window, the artist and album listings revert to sort by Name, even though I had selected Sort and Year. Could that selection be made sticky? It could.. I'll add it in.. 5) Cover images that are not square (like DigiPaks or Maxi-CDs) are displayed distorted which looks quite ugly. It would look better to pad them with the background color. Or to make that an option (distort / pad / crop). Yes, the album display code needs revisiting.. Looks like the way I detect the default no-albumart image isnt working quite right at the moment too.. Anyway, I am quite impressed so far. I thought of writing an iTunes-like Windows UI myself, seems like you saved me some time. :) Good, glad you like it.. Thanks for the suggestions and things.. It's the way I do it.. Not sure if there's an SQL$ or not.. Probably not.. 2. I selected to copy the SQLited db locally, but when I click to rescan tbe moose library the progress bar window comes up, but no progress is reflected. (The album covers and progress bar display as expected when I rescan the thumbnails from cache) Hmm.. Sounds like a bug.. I'll look into that.. 3. After the scan is finished I end up with several albums with multiple album covers in the Album Cover view. All the duplicate covers lists all the tracks in the album when I select Play Track. Btw, the Tree view of shows the correct number of covers per album and so does the SC Web UI. Strange, can't repeat this on the latest SC.. Does the library/library window have the duplicates as well ? Presumably a full wipe/rescan fixes things, but then the duplicates happen again after playing ? 4. I think I mentioned this before, the order of the tracks in the Play Track view when I right click an Album cover is not in order after some rescans. Is it sorting by filename ? Do you have track numbers in the filenames ? I might be wrong, but the issues I'm having with SQLite based server might related to albums whose name or artist name start with character with foreign accents such as: ¡ á é í ó ú ü ñ ç ô ã. I have a couple albums by a band named ¡Cubanismo! and none of their albums appear in the cover chooser or tree view, but they appear in the SC Web UI. Good, good.. :-) To allow her to navigate, all I have to do is select the kiddie genre so that only the covers from that genre are shown and adjust the size as appropriate for her. Fantastic! The issue is that when Moose is exited, restarted, and the cover view is gone back to, it reverts back to showing the covers for the entire library. I've tried re-sizing the window and reducing fonts, etc, but it just leaves a big gap, where the artist info could conceivably fit, but it does not show it. Not sure about the squeezeslave issue - one for ralphy or someone.. The whole Hot keys support needs a re-write really.. The HotKeys currently supported are ctrl+P, ctrl+S, ctrl+F, ctrl+B. Also F8,F9 and F10. These are the same as ms media centre, which used to have global keys rather than focus-based keys.. The supported MediaKeys are Play, Stop, Next, Previous, Mute, VolUp and VolDown. Ahh, yes, sounds like a problem then.. How old's your server build ? Is it an official release, or a nightly ? One thing that usually fixes artwork and scanning issues is a complete SC wipe and rescan. Might be worth giving that a go. There's also the fast-scan flag in the settings. You could try flipping that.. I do have 9000 open but Moose and SC are on the same machine, does it matter? Moose uses port 9000 to access the server's web interface, from which it gets artwork. If the server and client are on the same machine, I wouldnt have though you'd need it open, but it's possible.. Does the artwork in the now-playing window work ok ? (again this will default to amazon grabbing if there is a problem getting artwork from the server - you can check where the artwork came from via right-clicking the now playing artwork and selecting the info item) So I should keep doing a manual scan until it grabs all album art from Amazon? No, it should grab all the artwork from SC.. The amazon grabbing's just a little extra feature that fills in SC's blanks.. It's quite slow grabbing from amazon, and some of their artwork's incorrect, so using it as a main source is a bad idea. It's possible turning on moose's logging system and doing a scan will throw something up. 2009/1/15 egd egd.3m18en1231985...@no-mx.forums.slimdevices.com: IIRC it's option 2b you're after for the unbinding to become persistent - AFAIK SC doesn't give a hoot what else connects to MySQL, so server.prefs is irrelevent to having another app access the DB. In v7 servers from december 2007 onwards, the my.tt file bind-address line should look like: bind-address = [% bindAddress %] The my.tt file is parsed by SC and %bindAddress% is populated from the prefs file setting. The resulting my.cnf file is written to the cache folder and is passed to MySQL at startup. I'd suggest it was far safer editing a preference rather than a source file.. The pref can be set/queried via the CLI, so you can then tell what state the binding's in and not require users to edit files.. -- - Dr Lovegrove http://www.rusticrhino.com/drlovegrove http://groups.google.com/group/moosenews ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

Just uploaded a new Moose to the usual places.. Mainly radio fixes and new partymode features: * Playlist - Dragged of items from library windows can now be inserted into the now playing playlist and visual feedback is given for the insert position * Tree - Radios/Music Services are now supported in a more generic way, which means any new ones the server throws at moose should be usable * Tree - Support added for Radios/Music Services icons specified by service rather than moose * Tree - Some accented characters were mis-behaving in the tree window with the latest server builds. This is now fixed. * Cover chooser - In touchscreen mode, both right clicking, and double-slow-left clicking brings up teh context menu * PartyMode - New PartyMode tab in options window with various party-mode specific settings (remove menus, try to limit damage users can perform) * PartyMode - Extended support to all library windows. Should be much more usable now * PartyMode - Key shortcut for toggling PartyMode added as CTRL + SHIFT + P (focus may need to be on the now playing window for this to work) Enjoy, -- - Dr Lovegrove http://www.rusticrhino.com/drlovegrove http://groups.google.com/group/moosenews ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

I found a few issues in View Mode- Touch Screen in Moose that might need fixing. 1.- Selecting Touch Screen under View Mode is not persistent. Actually this is by-design.. All 3 modes (touch, fullscreen and party) are non persistent mainly because for something like party you could get stuck in it by mistake.. If you want Moose to always run in touch-screen mode, add the /touchscreen command lane parameter to it's shortcut.. There are /fullscreen and /partymode paramaters too.. 2.- No drop down menu when right clicking Album Covers in the album chooser while in Touch Screen View Mode In touch-mode two left clicks should bring the menu up.. Currently right-click will do nothing as you've found.. I'll make right-click bring the menu up as well.. Makes sense.. 3.- Resizing the Album Covers does not work as gradually as it does in the other views. Can't repeat this.. I've only got 10 or so albums here though, so I'll try it on my main library later on.. This is not related to view mode I also noticed that when I select a whole album to play there is no album art displayed in the Now Playing panel. When selecting any single track from the same album displays the album art is displayed. I have album art in all my album folders and it is also imbedded in my FLAC files. That sounds more like a squeezecentre issue.. What happens in the web ui ? Are these newly added albums ?
