What are you talking about? BBC iPlayer plugin always relays data
through the LMS server, so any perceived improvement turning on/off
proxied playback is either imagined or an accidental coincidence with
some other change eg. broadband or BBC issues. "Placebo effect" is a
good shorthand for that. If you actually think something else is going
on inside LMS and the plugin then you are wrong, bpa knows what he's
talking about.

Forcing an update on a user who has a out of date URL usually results in
hand holding to understand what is happening.

The alternative is to delete the repo. In the past when I deleted repos
- I got squeals where some users do not want to migrate of fear of the
unknown and their LMS flags an error which is also upsetting. Now I
try to get them to move by changing the banner message into something
vaguely apocalyptic until eventually there are very few downloads - then
I delete. The repo-short.xml (and a few others such as the five 1.4.10
users and the five 1.6.0 users) users are hardcore remainers and so I
let sleeping dogs lie - less work for me.

Ah, I must admit I hadn’t realised this. I see that I still have both

the BBCiPlayer plugin would appear.

If the old plugin versions don’t work, then is there any reason to keep
them around? Is it time to copy the contents of betarelease-repo.xml
over the top of repo-short.xml? Does Sourceforge support redirects or
symlinks?

"beta" referred to the BBC who at the time were beta testing DASH.

The plugins which are installed from the repo at the start of this
thread don't even work - which means users have installed plugins they
don't use. I have changed repo banner which appears in the plugin tab to
say it is out of date - but still it is used.

To be fair, the newer URL does have the word "beta" in it, so I can

Yes but as slartibartfast points out - this issue affects many other
URLs so it is not unusual behaviour in terms of LMS - not sure if that
means it is not really a bug or not.. In fact it ties into the "More
info" menu which has the same issue and as such is probably more
significant.

> Version 1.6.5, which I understand to be the latest.
OK - just checking as the repo URL at the top of this thread is out of
date points to an old out of date version yet the repo is downloaded
over 2000 times /day.

Wouldn't help me. Users will still post where they like and I'd just
have yet another place to check.

Cross linking protocol handlers is dangerous as "iplayer://" can call
"dash:// " and "dash://" can be setup to play independent of
"iplayer://" (which I don't support but some users do it anyway) - there
is too much opportunity for circular behaviour and crashes. The "dash"
metadata handler will need to check the originating URL which caused the
dash url to be used (e.g. playlist).

I understand. I think the handler has no good data so garbage is
returned or there is no call to a handler and so the link to the Antenna
is generated by LMS.

I think it is garbage as there is no handler for dash metadata. The
plugin does some fancy footwork hiding playing dash:// and hls:// URLs
behind iplayer:// (which behaves as a playlist). The fancy footwork
has meant it can be tripped up in a few places. That said - try playing
a staton form a playlist ".pls" which has an icon and the same problem
arise as the playing track URL is not associated with the playlist icon
- the playlist URL is.

I'm not going to look into this until the weekend - I'm trying to finish
up some other work.

My gut feeling is the solution is wrong - the dash:// protocol should
not have been called - there is an error in the handling.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBCiPlayer with DASH support - test version

2019-04-24 Thread mavit

I notice that when a programme is initially added to the playlist, more
metadata is available for it than when it is playing. For example, in
the Logitech Media Server web interface, clicking on the currently
playing iPlayer programme in the right hand pane causes it to appear in
the left hand pane with the programme artwork replaced by LMS’s generic
radio mast icon.

This appears to be because, when a programme plays, the handler switches
from Plugins::BBCiPlayer::iPlayer to Plugins::BBCiPlayer::DASH, and the
latter class lacks a getMetadataFor() method. Adding the following to
DASH.pm seems like a step in the right direction:

Code:

sub getMetadataFor {
  my ($class, $client, $url) = @_;
  my $metadata = Plugins::BBCiPlayer::iPlayer::getMetadataFor(@_);
  $metadata->{'icon'} //= $class->getIcon($url);
  $metadata->{'cover'} //= $metadata->{'icon'};
  return $metadata;
  }

Web GUI - power buttom
Remote control - power button.

Don't use Phone apps but they must provide a way of stopping a stream or
"power off" of a player.

Can you not stop the stream rather than just pausing it usually with a
long pause key press or clear playlist (which is only one item).

The usual fix is to change "Resume on Power on" setting to "Stop at
power off/ Remaion stopped at power on"

This morning I used Alexa to tell the Touch to play not realising I had
played Radio 3 last night. Then I changed to Radio 2. So the first thing
played was Radio 3.

Ignore previous post - 9:30 is GMT which is 10:30 BST - so it look like
related to player pausing.

How did you start playing this morning ?

Power on and then select or something else.

Interesting - when did you last play R2 and how did you change ? I
wonder if some info is not being deleted when channel gets changed.

According to "What was that tune" I played Radio 3 on the touch at
10.30pm last night ( not 9.30) and then Radio 2 at 9.26am this morning.

No BBCiPlayer plugin has never done that. Cancellation often happens
with "normal" MP3/AAC http streams is that if a stream is paused - TCP
and/or host server will break the connection - this behaviour can be
dependent service operator. However with chunked http over http 1.1 -
this doesn't happen as TCP connection doesn't have to persist.

With DASH, the plugin tracks the chunks played and so if a stream is
paused and resumed - it will request the next chunk. For live stream
these are timestamped and so plugin will request a chunk that is now no
longer valid (currently more than 3 hrs old). With "Listn Again" chunk
are sequentlially numbered and playback could resume.

Your log seems to indicates that playback was paused at 9:30pm on 2nd
Aug and resumed at about 9:25am the following day 3rd Aug - does that
seem reasonable ?

I have the players set to stop a stream at power off though I am not
sure how this applies to the Touch as I don't use a power button and
maybe only pause it. I have actually recently started using the Alexa
app again and stopping playback on the Touch using that. Do I remember
correctly that if iPlayer is paused for more than a certain time then
the delay introduced is cancelled?

Does your player stop or pause a stream on power off ?

The fix I had for invalid estimated delay was when the estimated delay
went negative due to fetching data before just as it was ready. Your
messages are different to this problem.

595 status code is a HTTP 1.1 is a connection problem and the message
indicates network connection to BBC broke and so fetch timed out. If
possible playback may continue but I think you'll then have a 25 sec
delay (i.e. no loss of audio). Any 5xx codes are related to BBC servers
or their CDN network. I don't understand jumping back 61 minutes after
a perhaps a few minutes delay - that feels like "time" went to GMT vs
BST.

On a general point, BBC carries out maintenance/upgrades on weekends,
bank holiday and summer time - this usually only effects regions not
nationwide . Even though they use a CDN, big events (e.g. England world
cup, cricket, Royal weddings) especially TV can affect iPlayer delivery
and for sometime later.

That is a sort of "warning" message I left in during development which
is produced when the estimated "delay" (i.e. time stamp of audio played
vs realtime) - I use it to detect when a user had paused or jumped back
so that metadata can be corrected. I allowed for some leeway and I
used to see it only occassionally - I think it was/is more prevalent
with UK higher speed listeners. I thought I updated the plugin but

With normal connection a reply will be received within 1 sec - it was
necessary to double check setting was not set too low.

I feel the problem is with the network/server setup which is why a test
of non-LMS application (browser, wget, curl) using network is needed.
It is strange since I am assuming LMS can access squeezenetwork OK (i.e.
no relevant message in log file) . The usual source for this problem is
DNS or a VPN as it is very specific to this group of URLs.

edit:

Is there any reason why you run both LMS 7.8 and 7.9 ?

If it is LMS specific - then the only setting I can think of would be
the WebUI Setting/Advanced/Network Radio Station Timeout - it could be
too small (this is the time LMS waits for a reply to the http/GET for
the BBC xml URL) .

What is the current value of this setting ?

The test is to etst whether the system which runs LMS can fetch the URL
without timeout. If it can then the problem is within LMS, if it cannot
then theproblem is with your server and local network setup.

An alternative is to use a command line interface on server (e.g.
telnet, ssh) which runs the LMS and then use wget (saves to a file) or
curl (puts URL on output) e.g.
wget http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/availability/radio2.xml
curl http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/availability/radio2.xml

Apple ands Android devices do not usehese URLs - they are pr0vided by
BBC for 3rd parties.

To locate the problem please do as I asked in previous earlier - Can you
open the URL in a browser tab on your system (ideally a browser on the

I am also not in the UK.
This is a basic network error getting info from BBC - look at the your
ssystem setup - it is not specific to plugin.
Can you open the URL in a browser tab on your system ?
Do you have anything odd in your network (e.g. satellite link, VPN)

Potentially the plugin is too "greedy" and gets a lot of data, then goes
dark for a large amount of time. The other end (or the tunnel) sees that
as a system that disconnected so it closes the connection. Default

IIRC The chromecast plugin acts as player which has an infinite buffer
it tries to grab as much data as possible - in early days this caused
problems with BBCiplayer livestreams so something had to be introduced
to manage the flow better.

IIRC there were specific setting for Chromecast plugin with BBCiPlayer

possibly aggravated by Windows depending on where transcoding is done.

I don't see why Hitmanpro should cause problem - more liklely it is just
the usual Windows problem with transcoding.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBCiPlayer with DASH support - test version

2018-01-10 Thread bpa

More detailed info please - "long distance" doesn't cut it !

What is a long distance colleague ? Do they use a satellite link ? Are
they non UK but using a VPN to become UK ?

The error below means that BBC replied with a requested chunk after 2292
seconds - 38 minutes !! what is going on

Code:

Plugins::BBCiPlayer:ASH::__ANON__ (779) Chunk fetch status 200 Long chunk
fetch time 2292 800

With a valid chunk being returned after 38 minutes - I think the plugin
gets confused - it looks like user has paused so chunks being played
are 38 minutes old but none of the other plugin variables match the
expected delay.

Code:

  [18-01-10 13:57:24.3098] Plugins::BBCiPlayer::iPlayer::getMetadataFor (567)
Invalid estimated delay -14 streamtime=1515610675

The delay may be partially due to the system (e.g. XP system with slow
single core processor, small memeory with a lot of system swapping)

Quick test would be to set "delay to start live stream" to 5 min.

What version of a plugin
What type of system - OS, processor , memory etc
Is the user in the UK (or appears to be in UK - faster UK streams can
cause problem if not in UK)
What are the BBCiPlayer settings ?
What type of player ?

I know it has been suggested and I also laid out some of the
consequences which land at my door.

1. If you delete the 1.3 from the current - AFAICT at next startup the
user current 1.3 BBCiPlayer (which if patched will be providing Listen
again and live) will be automatically removed and disappear.
2. if an update is done - some users may not be supported. If a user is
using 1.3 then are likely to be using LMS 7.7.* which I don't support
3. If an update is done to say 1.5 , then there may be conflicting
update notices between default plugin and users who have steadfastly
remained on 1.4 (12 download in last week)

Either way there may be a burst of frustrated users wondering why their
beloved BBC has broken and why was it done and how to fix it.

The present situation means there is only the occasional user with a
problem.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBCiPlayer with DASH support - test version

2018-01-06 Thread Shellness

Thank you, it works a charm.

I have installed the xml file in the past (not least when all of the
DASH issues arose) but had not recorded that I needed to do it again for
any reinstallation.

Thank you.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBCiPlayer with DASH support - test version

2018-01-06 Thread bpa

V1.3.1alpha3 of the BBCiPlayer plugin is years out of date and is not
the subject of this thread.

The first page of the thread summarises the situation.

There is another thread tells you how to patch the 1.3 version into sort
of working order if you really need to run the 1.3 version of the
plugin.

This thread is about a test version successor to that plugin - V1.5.*
and also an update to BBCiPlayerExtra (which has its own thread)

To install the 1.5.* version - follow the instruction on the first page
adding the new repo to the plugins tab.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBCiPlayer with DASH support - test version

2018-01-06 Thread Shellness

Thanks for the rapid response. Your questions make me wonder whether I
have bungled the LMS installation, somehow. Answers as follows:

Any BBC plugin related message in the log file?
- I don’t know how to get to the log file. Reading around I need to
find squeezecenter.pl, but I can’t find it under
/usr/local/squeezecenter, nor under /usr/share/squeezeboxserver.

What repo URL have you used?
- I usually keep records but on this occasion I haven’t. My guess is:
downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/7.9/sc/a519d5e/logitechmediaserver_7.9.1~1513951369_all.deb

What version of BBCiPlayer and BBCiPlayerExtra is shown in the plugins
tab?
- BBCiPlayer - V1.3.1alpha3
- BBCiPlayerExtra - No version as it won’t install and no number shows
against it under the 3rd Party Plugins listing

What menu items appear on WebGUI
- Everything appears normal for LMS (LMS user screen and for the
Settings screens), i.e. for the user screen: My Music, Radio, My Apps,
Favorites and Extras; with all of their sub-folders.

What are the AAC setting in WebGUI Settings/Advanced/Filetypes?
File Format - Stream Format - Decoder
AAC - AAC - Native
- FLAC - faad/flac
- MP3 - disabled
- PCM - faad

- NB, Soma pls files work when posted in the Tune In URL box, e.g.
https://somafm.com/dronezone130.pls, and play AAC.

What is shown in BBCiPlayer Listen Again menu - Are they empty, up to
date?
- The Listen Again options are complete, with all of the last 7 days
followed by the numerical/alphabetical listing of recent shows.
Clicking on any one show (be it under the main listing or under one of
the 7 days) just bring up the artwork plus the programme text. The line
below the text which would give the stream rate and type just shows "0"
(a zero). The timer bar just shows 0.00 on the left and 0.00 on the
right. (Example programme text:
“Chain Reaction: Series 11: Ed Byrne interviews Al Murray
Ed Byrne kicks off Series 11 by interviewing the creator of the Pub
Landlord, Al Murray.
Chain Reaction: Series 11: Ed Byrne interviews Al Murray”)

What Settiings for BBCiPlayer and BBCiPlayer plugin?
- The only settings are for the BBCiPlayer plugin as the
BBCiPlayerExtra plugin won't install:

- Show in My Apps - Enable (blank)
- Live Stream Preference - HLS>MP3>FlashAAC>FlashMP3
- On Demand Stream Preference - HLS>MP3>FlashAAC>FlashMP3
- Allow Transcoding - Enable (ticked)
- Show Live Text - Enable (ticked)
- Show Slide Show - Enable (blank)
- Live Text - Squeezebox Classic - Top Line

- NB the Live Text works on my Classic

For info:
- All my settings (which I save on a PC) carried over fine to the new
installation.

- The Radio Paradise plugin gives the message “Radio Paradsie lossless
streaming requires the Perl module IO::Socket::SSL. Please use your
operating system's package manager to install it.”

- The RadioFeeds plugin works.

Thanks again.

BBC do not include CBeebies in the official vendor feed used by
BBciPlayer. Also they do not appear under the A-Z of BBCiPlayer so not
in Extra by default. Since you have found the Programme pid - once you
have BBCiPlayerExtra installed and add the following line to the
menu.opml file (e.g. at the end just above ) in the BBCiPlayer
directory - then go back to top menu Radio and then BBCiPlayer - then
the updated menu.opml will be read and the CBeebies Epsiodes menu item
should be present.

The metadata for BBCstrerams has nothing to do witrh the audio stream,
there is no metadata in the audio stream. The metadata is pulled from
one of 2 other sites - one is RadioPLayer (non BBC).

In this case R3 flac metadata was set up to be the the same as R3 AAC
(and also for the few biunaural broadcast as well)

Proxied streaming does nothing with BBCiPlayer - only with plain http
/MP3, http/wma or http/aac streams.

First tets transcoding oif AAC on your system: Can you play ordinary
http/AAC stream such as http://www.somafm.com/illstreet64.pls ?

If there is no problems then
As you are using Windows - increase the "live delay" setting to say 2
minutes.

What is the spec of your Windows systems.
Have you got security s/w ?

It may be that you have lost the ability to transcode aac to something
the receiver understands, like flac. Look at your file types (Settings,
Advanced, File Types) and see what it says for aac.

Check that under Settings, Player, Audio that the Streaming method is
Proxied Streaming (I don't actually know if this matters, but it can't
do any harm...).

Stick with DASH first in the list.

No idea, but it doesn't matter. If the BBC want more FLAC players, they
control their own Apps and can change them to handle whatever network

The BBC iplayer plugin topped working a while back. I upgraded to the
latest version of LMS, uninstalled the current iplayer plugins,
dowloaded the latest and have restarted. BBC streams still do not work.
I get the graphics and the text with stream information but no sound.
The counter gets as far as about 9 secs then reverts back to 0 and
starts again. I have repeated the install and restart a few times
including rebooting the whole PC. Here is my set up:

That is LMS plugin interaction as no audio chunks and some metadata are
available (unlike a file or a http/MP3 stream) when play is pressed.
When Play is pressed LMS starts the playtime display but plugin doesn't
know all the details of the stream (e.g. duration) until it has fetched
MPD etc. nor has any audio chunks been retrieved. Once MPD and few
audio chunks have been received and then sent to player the plugin
updates metadata etc (which is after play has been pressed) LMS then
updates all the displayed info.

The simplest way for the BBC to get more players is to add FLAC support

OK - Thanks, this make the issue clearer. Outside the UK with slower
streams (96kbps vs 320kbps) - these timing effects are slightly

That is giving me track details on R1 and R2. I'm most interested in R3,
but 'Free thinking' is on at present so no tracks. I'll check again

Does changing the delay from 15 to "no delay" fix the track detail
problem (even though there may be a audio glitch at start).

I've got seconds to delay as 15 seconds, and buffer fullness threshold
as 255.

Thanks. I'm looking around for any possible setup difference as this
issue could be affected by delays and even the player - what are the
"Seconds to delay live streams " and "buffer Threshold" settings.

Thanks BPA - I think these are the relevant settings. I haven't worked
out how to add the neat screen shots others post!

Simon

Show OnAir Text
Enable

Always display station icon
Enable

Live Text - Squeezebox Classic

I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 as well - the picoreplayer doesn't matter as it
is squeezelite - not the UI. I presume the plugin version is a typo
meant to be 1.5.4.5

What are your BBCiPlayer settings ?

I don't deny you see the problem - it's just I can't reproduce it. I'll
have to go into the code and see what are the possibilties.
