Use the trigger in your AMP to turn on the subwoofer. Thats what I do.

Besides if it sends another ON command so what? Just turn your amp or
sub woofer on with your other plugin first.

Not unless you know how to modify plugins and install it manually. If
you start the device that is associated with the plugin it will attempt
to turn on the amp. Same if you turn it off.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Denon AVP Control Plugin

2014-04-01 Thread Simon_rb

It's a bit more complicated than that! My subwoofers are powered by a
separate sony amp, this is connected to a home easy wall socket. I use
Domoticz to switch everything. So when I turn my squeeze touch on, a
plugin then tells Domoticz to turn a switch on which will send a command
to turn the denon on and set a quick select setting and also turn the
sony amp on at the wall. It needs to be clever enough that if the touch
is left on but not playing and the TV or projector is on then when the
touch turns itself off or we realise and turn it off then it doesn't
turn the amps off because we could be listening to our tv/projectors
through it.. Make sense?

I have never tried using the plugin for non db set AVR's. Not sure what
that would do. You might try setting your AVR to DB as a test and let me

Make sure you don't have the option on the plugin to Enable Synching the
Volume turned on. This is the only way the plugin trys to change the
volume at track changes.

Also make sure you don't have the player set to 100% volume, even if you
did the patch.

I assume you have followed these instructions?

https://code.google.com/p/denonavpcontrol/wiki/InstallationInstructions

Lastly if it still does it you can turn the debug feature on for the
plugin and restart lms. Then you can send me the log after one of your
'events'

If you are using a Touch as your player device you will need to make a

The current version of LMS 7.7.x eliminates the ability to use this

must follow the instructions on the forum entry to patch your player to
allow for 100% volume without using the menu.

Media Server and wiped all settings files.. But no luck

The Yellow color is just me showing where the text should be..

The latest upgrade made the plugin not to work at all it wont turn on or
off the reciver.. From the computer that is running the media server i
can with not problem telnet to the receiver and by hand write the
differnt settings...

My log looks like this..

My receiver is a avr4306 and using Logitech Media Server Version: 7.7.2

The menu problems is caused by the wrong new line type in the

I updated the plugin on Google code once again with the new strings.txt
file.

You will probably have to remove the plugin, restart lms and then
reinstall the plugin to get the new copy.

The alternative its to go into the server and set the newlines on the
strings.txt file to unix and then restart lms

I assume you removed the plugin and rebooted?

Then I would delete the files from the LMS.

Then reselect the plugin and reinstall it and reboot. Then enable
(hopefully) and it might want a reboot then.

I checked and all the files seem OK and I updated the key on Google to
reflect the new zip file size.

This plugin won't work because your 2808 is not network capable.

Since it has RS232 support Peter's Denon Serial (link in post

Out off shameless self interest comes this plugin idea.. (I will push
the donate button if this leads to something )

Make this plugin work with iTach devices for more universal control of
not only denon devices.

looking at the plugin makes me *think* that it's very close match not
so extensive mods are needed

I use these devices
http://www.globalcache.com/products/itach/ip2slspecs/

They come as serial or ir , ethernet or wifi .

API

http://www.globalcache.com/downloads/#apis

The Plugin then needs user inputs for .

The network address of the Serial or ir device .

The proper serial or ir codes to be sent for volume and power .

Plugin can then send to correct device at the rigth port ( see api )
And add the special carriage return character needed \x0D for their
serial adapter.

Also the ir-device has an ir-blaster, so with this devices one could do
a plugin that substitutes ir-blaster for Touch that does not support ir
blasting you will then need this 3'rd party hardware, but it will
probably work fine.

I can not code myself out of paper bag otherwise i would have tried it
myself.

I actually think netcat would do on the linux servers, to send
commands.
Unfortunately netcat is not available on the Touch itself , otherwise
this could have been a nice app idea, to have serial and ir blasting
without a local server.

I actually have an iTACH IP2IR device I use for other purposes. I
would have to think about it to see how much might be transferable. A
few comments:

* Today the plugin uses Denon network commands. I would have to
translate the equivelants to IR codes.

* The plugin uses two way communications and gets feedback from the
Denon - using iTach it would be one way only

* Because of the above and the ability to support multiple receivers
(not just Denon) it would be a pretty major undertaking and I am
limited on time right now

I think there is an IRBlaster plugin that is available today. Maybe it
might be easier to modify that for your use?

Ok I use one serial and one ir device myself , I just have to switch
apps on my iPad , just wanted to have ipeng controlling volume. The
nice thing about meridian equipment that I use, is that they have their
own com bus. so by using the rs232 on my processor i control all my
meridian gear , the rest of system needs ir, I use the iRule app .
But scrap it if it to much work I think including you and me I've seen
only one other person using iTach on this forum that makes an userbase
of 3 people :-/

Actually i Think the iTach serial adapter can have 2 way communication
but then it requires more work and can not be general as all devices
have different serial protocol and not all talk back to you, maybe
Denon is a bit unusual. I'm not prepared to donate a complete meridian
system for this purpose ;)

I also wanted to push the idea of an ir blast replacement maybe some
other developer reads this and was just unaware of these cool devices

RS232 would be way more work and probably not totally worth it. If the
major functions of turning the unit on/off, adjusting the volume and
perhaps sending some setup commands to get the receiver on the right
channel, audio format etc would that be enough?

If we kept it minimal like above it might be achievable. My biggest
question now would where to store the IR codes. Since there is only
potentially 5 above (assuming that a receiver has the ability to reset
its configuration with one command like the Denon does), this could
probably be done via the Web Gui on the plugin. If it gets much more
than that it would require a file of codes and that is very problematic
to maintain/adjust.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Denon AVP Control Plugin

I use the rs232 for volume and power and actually i only need volume .

meridian has a feature that standby can not be defeated by ir or
rs232 so if the system is in standy it's needs a push on a front button
(it is not really off ) but selecting a source is simple and by doing
that it evokes your already preset dsp modes etc .

When I use iRule i have macro functions to select the squeezebox on the
meridian and send play signal to the squeebox by ir then i swap between
iRule and iPeng to listen , but once i found a comfortable listening
level and dsp mode it's mostly iPeng, but i built a complete ir remote
for my squeezebox in iRule to .

it may not be worth the work for you as i see that you have no personal
use for this function.

Nope. You may be able to use the old IR Blaster with such a setup. Take
a look at http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/IRBlasterDirectLink

If you upgraded to an SB Touch, bought a $10 USB-to-RS232 cable, and
used something like the the 'socat utitilty'
(http://www.dest-unreach.org/socat/) to turn the Touch into a
TCP/Serial server, you should also be able to use my plugin, and
probably Aesculus' too.

The RS232 and native TCP/Ethernet interfaces that are used by
DenonSerial and Denon AVP Control offer a huge advantage over the Denon
IR interface, as the RS232 and Ethernet interfaces allow our plugins to
set exact volumes and determine the Denon's volume. The IR interface is
one-way (SBS, plugins, and applets can't determine how loud the amp
already is) and crude -- all you can send are Volume Up and Volume Down
commands (and some sort of Mute command -- serial/TCP allow discrete
Mute On and Mute Off, but I don't know about Denon's IR codes).

I don't know what features you need -- Chris' plugin is more advanced
than mine -- but if you can stand only having power and volume sync,
you might be able to use my DenonSerial for one amp and Chris' plugin
for the other [I'd probably switch to Chris' plugin but I'm too lazy to
add 1) my logic for respecting IR volume commands when my SB3 is off
and 2) integrating with my custom MusicInfoScr saver that displays the
volume in terms of the Denon's gain level]. DenonSerial should work
fine with two different amps with two different IP addresses, though I
haven't tested that. Myself, I just use it with a single amp that gets
an IP address only by virtue of software running on an HTPC connected
to its RS232 port.

Good luck.

Before you go to iPeng you have to make sure the SBS can see it and
uses the plugin to control it. You can test this from the player or
SBS web gui.

Since you have the plugin defined for the 4308 are you adding another
amp that another SB Player will see? You would need to configure the
plugin that sends its output to the 3808 like you did with the 4308.

If you just swapped the 3808 for the 4308 and kept the same IP address
it should work. If you just changed the IP address then you must do so
in the plugin definitions too for that player.

After all this you will need to restart the SBS for it to take effect.

BTW I have never tried running two amps from the same SBS before but I
think someone else reported they had it working. It may require an
update to the plugin.

First off have you tried turning the Denon unit on before you test?
The powersaver mode needs to be turned off for it to work from

If that does not work then we will have to debug it. You will need

1. Clean the server log

For that I feel the best solution is a combination of using an iOS

 with this plugin.

With this solution you only see one interface (iPeng) and everything in

No remote solution can accomplish what this solution does. I am not
aware of any equivelant solution from any vendor (ie SONOS) that is as
 complete.

Note you might want to consider adding another player to your system
that is hooked up to your AVR. The SB Receiver was the best choice if
you were going to use an iOS device but they seem to be in limited
supply. The SB Touch is probably the best device with todays
availability although you may really never use the UI. We still like
to use the Touch because with this solution you can glace at the Touch
display to see song/status and don't have to pick up the iOS device and
probably enter pw to get access to the screen etc. The SB Touch also
has the highest bandwidth of the current SB Players for higher bitrate
 content you may aquire.

Thanks again Chris. Yeah, I have considered adding a dedicated box to
my home theater. I just have a hard time justifying the cost because I
can accomplish most of what I want to do with software running on my
media server in conjunction with my various clients in the house
(directv receiver, ps3 and denon). I may end up just moving my squeeze
radio to where the denon is after all. If nothing else this plugin
would come in handy when we're streaming music to the pool and want to
change the station via the iphone. Thanks again!

Please forgive me for asking a few noob questions but I'm a bit lost
with this plugin. I have an AVR-4306 that is networked with a static
IP and the latest firmware updates. I've installed the plugin and
configured it via the area in the web config (I made sure to enable web
audio as per a previous post). What exactly should I see now? People
have alluded to seeing a new player on the squeezebox? Is this plugin
supposed to stream what I hear on the Squeezebox to my Denon? I know
that it is partially working as it will in fact turn off my Denon but
it won't turn it on. Also, if it is supposed to stream what input do I
need it to be on? I did a search on the pdf manual and saw no mention
of quick select. thank you very much in advance!

I'm sorry to be a noob about all of this - I'm fairly new to this and
it can be a little daunting when trying to see the big picture and how
 all of this wires together.

OK. Basically the plugin manages the AVR when you do various functions
on the SB player. For example if you turn on the player it will turn on
the AVR and if you adjust the volume on the player it really adjusts
the AVR instead.

Here is the tricks you may not have grasped.

1. On your AVR you need to go to the network settings and turn off
power saver mode. That was what the prior poster mentioned in the PDF
reading. If this is turned on you cannot turn on the AVR by the
plugin.

2. Set your player to 100% volume if you want to bypass the analog to
digital conversion. The AVR will do it all.

Your memory is correct.

Here are the instructions from the Owner's Manual:

1. Set the input source, input mode, surround mode, room EQ settings
and volume to the conditions you want to store.

2. Press and hold the desired QUICK SELECT.
Keep pressing the button until the quick select indicator lights.

The Quick Select buttons are on the lower right side of the front panel

hi chriss,

i just bought an logitech transport and use now your plugin on the

to your remarks. yes you are right. i want to switch on my iphone on
ipeng the homezone, from e.g. mainzone to zone 2.

this would be great.

one question to the volume adjustment thorgh your denon plugin

at start the volume is middle and the after 2 seconds or so the volume
goes high. i just try to find the correct setting, seems to be more
tricky than i expected.

during the use: when i reduce on the iphone the volume, than the denon
and transporter will be reduced, is this correct or only on the
denon?. often there is a time lag of a few seconds after change on the
ihone and when it happens on the denon.

what is the best adjustment.

put transorter to 100% fix and all volume justment on the denon?
is there a more detail description available. i checked the goggle
plugin site already.

thanks for your help.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Denon AVP Control Plugin

2010-09-23 Thread Aesculus

There is a delay built into the plugin when you change the volume. I
think its about 1/2 but then the whole system my add another 1/2 or so.
This is to keep the user from overrunning the Denon which has a pretty
poor communications system in my opinion. The delay is there so if you
rapidly change the volume the Denon does not have to chase you until you
settle down a bit. Just give it a second until you decide to move it. I
took it down to a 1/4 of a second once and that seemed to introduce
problems where the Denon would get locked up.

The 'snapping' or jumping of the volume when you turn on the system is
the way the plugin tries to capture synching the volumes. I will have
to look at it again to see if I can improve that. Basically you have
to match the two so either the SB volume jumps to the Denon setting or
the other way around. I favor the SB moving to the Denon setting
because its safer than having the Denon adjust itself the to the SB.
If the SB was mistakenly set to a high volume you could damage your
equipment.

OK. Sounds like we have an IP Telnet issue then. It may be related to
SBS 7.5 from 7.4.2.

Well its worth trying to remove it and see. If one of the people having
the problem go into the plugin.pm file at line 173 and take out the
HTTP://, save the file and restart SBS and see if that resolves the

If you have iPeng turning the Denon on and off then the plugin is
installed. If you don't see the Denon AVP/AVR Control under the player
settings its probably because the option to Enable Audio Settings Menus
was not checked during configuration.

To solve this go into the Player Settings on the SBS menu (web) for the
player you are using the plugin with. Select Plugins and then the Denon
AVP/AVR Control. At the very bottom of the features you will see the
option to Enable Audio Settings Menus. Make sure its checked and then
save your settings.

You will have to restart the SBS for the new setting to take effect.

Now under iPeng when you select Player Settings you will see Denon
AVP/AVR Control as an option. Note the menu will be empty unless the
Denon is turned on.

Peter: I am using PERL async libraries that someone pointed me to years
ago. Don't get too excited from the Denon point of view because it seems
to have problems working in the async world. It likes someone to grab
the interface and stick to it from what I can see. So I constantly run
into problems overrunning it with multiple requests, even when I wait a
1/2 second or more between requests. Still trying to figure that one
out.

As far as debugging. Look at my code. I have debug statements
everywhere that have to terminate in new lines :-)

I am stuck with what Denon does. I did not invent the interface. Like
I said I decided not to be a hog and steal the device because the user
may want to use it for other purposes or zones at the same time. Most
of what they do with the SBS after getting it started is volume control
and for me I can get in and out quickly.

First off Denon has pulled all manuals for their interfaces from their
websites years ago. They stated they only want to support Authorized
third parties. Must be learning from Apple.

I suspect this statement is about using one or the other interfaces. I
just means that if you have both connections or if you want to use
Ethernet you must set that parameter. Everything in the command
structure is the same. The only piece different is how you set up the
command (Ethernet or Serial).

You say you have other devices connected to the Denon via Ethernet?
How do we know they are not taking the session and locking it? Can you
make sure those are off?

Also as Pete said anything in your router or firewall that would block
access to certain ports etc. It may be worth turning that stuff off
for a few minutes just to eliminate that from the equation.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Denon AVP Control Plugin

2010-08-15 Thread riemers

this is the plugin that is working for me:

http://store.homeseer.com/store/PI-DENONAVR---DenonAVR-Plug-in-HiTec-Homes-P606C155.aspx

and this is the forum of it:

http://board.homeseer.com/forumdisplay.php?f=969

I've disabled the plugin and tried again, i've read up on some articles
and i still do believe that older modules/differetn ones do have a port
23, but my model does not. Its a fairly new model, and it states in the
first link that it works with models after 2006.

Firewall is not the issue, since its connected to a switch together
with the sbs server and there is no vlan/firewall/etc configured on it.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Denon AVP Control Plugin

2010-08-15 Thread peterw

Aesculus;569306 Wrote:
Peter: I am using PERL async libraries that someone pointed me to years
ago. Don't get too excited from the Denon point of view because it
seems to have problems working in the async world. It likes someone to
grab the interface and stick to it from what I can see. So I constantly
run into problems overrunning it with multiple requests, even when I
wait a 1/2 second or more between requests. Still trying to figure that
 one out.

Hmm, guess no great reason to switch, then. I'm wrestling the same
problems with RS232 -- and for my gear I think I've ended up with
pretty good default timing, including when I use a network serial port
server (app) to make my amp accessible via TCP port 23. My favorite
part is that it seems the amp queues up informational messages if the
user uses the amp buttons or IR to make changes, so sometimes you'll
issue a command that should result in 4 response lines but instead
you'll get 10. My notes are in my code:

Code:

my $minTimeBetweenCommands = 0.1; # delay after getting a response
(seconds)
my $responseDelay = 0.15; # wait this long after command before
expecting response (seconds)
my $maxSerialWait = 0.25; # wait this long after serial command
before giving up (seconds)
  # (also wait for ($numberOfResponseLinesReceived * $maxSerialAdditionalWait)
  # MV?, PW?, and SI? all tend to return in 0.10 secs
  # CV? often takes about 0.39 sec, but we don't issue that command
  my $maxSerialAdditionalWait = 0.09; # after one response, treat a delay
this long as indication that response is done (seconds)
  # (worst I've seen with a 2310CI amp is about 0.05 sec)

Denon's protocol is much better than some other's -- but maybe this is
what Sean Adams should be working on now, a good network-capable amp
with a stable, modern, multithreaded control interface. :-)

2006 is not so new. The AVP was 2008 and a complete redesign. Thats
what the plugin was written to. If you can get hold of the network
interface specs for your receiver I can modify the plugin to accomodate
what needs to be changed.

Its still possible that something is wrong with my plugin but I
verified that I was using the same files as in google code. I even went
as far as to remove the plugin and download the code from google to be
sure.

The last thing to try is to make sure your Denon firmware is up to
date. There was a change in the protocol about a year ago. Look at
your manual to see how to update your firmware.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Denon AVP Control Plugin

2010-08-15 Thread riemers

I have the latest firmware, also solved one of my green screen issues
which i reported to denon itself. Seems they did listen (was a
handshaking issue in the hdmi)

Anyway, i'll try and get the protocol specs from the author of that
other plugin, but it could take some time (since response is not always
great there, as oppose to the reply's i've gotten here)

You could use Wireshark to capture packets between your PC and the amp.

Port 23 is the telnet port. Denon AVP Control uses the web port -- take
the :23 out of your address and try again. My DenonSerial plugin uses
the telnet port, but Chris' Denon AVP Control is more feature-rich, and
almost certainly a better choice if you have an Ethernet-equipped Denon.

It will try and connect to port 23.. which is not in use with this
denon as far as i know. I've got a denon AVR-3310 which has a network
connection and does work with plugins (non sbs plugins)
Perhaps this is not supported for me?

If that is your fixed IP address for the Denon then it should work.
Note right now I have some issues with the communications timing out in
some cases, but the turn on sequence should always work if you have the
right IP address for your AVR.

Are you sure your AVR is in standby mode and not turned off? Can you
reach it from the Denon Web UI when in standby?

Don't forget you have to have the powersave mode off in the Denon for
the system to wake up from a Net command.
