Hello,
This should be straight forward.
Provision an ec2 instance and then access it over ssh. From then onwards,
your installation should be like on prem. Just note that you will need
appropriate security groups as well.

i dont wish rely on antivirus -- in the last incident sophos, kaspersky (i am

does anybody use the above spamassassin module or something equivalent ?

This sort of thing is generally server-side filtering. We intend to use Sieve
with dovecot's deliver to provide this functionality in QMT, but it's not in
there yet.

I think you can write a maildrop rule to accomplish this though. While I don't
encourage the use of maildrop because it'll be replaced by sieve soon, I
believe you can achieve what you want with maildrop.

See smtproutes for forwarding entire domain.

RE: [qmailtoaster] Re: Conditional Forwarding In QMT

2014-11-27 Thread Alex Kan
Dear Eric,

Thanks for your reply.
I am sorry that my explanation is not clear enough in my last email.

We have a user a...@abc.com.
He need to forward email from fu...@otherdomain.com to 1...@123.com once he got
the email from fu...@otherdomain.com.
The setting in qmailadmin will forward all email (from any email address) for
a...@abc.com to 1...@123.com.
The setting we need is only forward the email from fu...@otherdomain.com for
a...@abc.com to 1...@123.com.

Now we can only set up this mail rule in email client software but the forward
won't run until the user open the client software.
(Of course we know that we can let the client software open and don't turn off
the pc at night, but the company policy don't allow us to keep pc power on
after we left office.)
Is there any way to do that?

Best regards,
Alex

See smtproutes for forwarding entire domain.

For individual accounts, use qmailadmin to set forward for account.

Thanks.

[qmailtoaster] Connection problem on a new installed QMT

2014-11-27 Thread Alex Kan
Dear All,

We setup a new QMT system in centos 6.6 64bit by using the new installation
procedure in one week ago.
There are around 25 users and around 50 email address in there different
domains.
Most of the users are using outlook 2013 and few are using outlook 2010.
All connected to the new mail server with imap only.

Everyday, around 3-5 users have connection problem that the outlook popup
keeping to ask for password.
The outlook keep asking password by popup even user entered the correct
password and user id.
The problem won't solve until we restart dovecot and sometime we need to reboot
the server.

We found some error log in dovecot.log as below.
Is it the cause of the problem?

I guess we missed that. :(
Yes, dovecot should be running.

Probably should add:
# chkconfig dovecot on
# service dovecot start
to the qt-install script.

Not having dovecot running would certainly keep squirrelmail from working. ;)

 Selinux?

The qt-bootstrap-1 script should have turned off selinux and rebooted.

The new SM configuration should be authenticating on port 587. Alex, can you
 post your SM configuration file?

Personally, I run SM on another host which runs only phpfcgi, so something
may have been lost in the translation. ;) I have seen problems with
permissions in the /var/lib/squirrelmail and /var/spool/squirrelmail
directories with custom setups like mine, where the php user runs SM instead
of apache. This could be a red herring for you though.

they seem to be the same

need I change both? or if only 1 - which one?

They are the same. One is a symlink to the other. This is according to LSB
standards (which not many Linux systems follow unfortunately).

as I look at these I am . thinking I should change 1 or 3 things

 maybe
MYIP= to what my true ipNumber is and that would be my private num

here is some info My public num= 168.215.62.221 ; my private num=
 192.168.201.221

Yes.

 maybe i should comment out
 iptables -A input -s 192.168.0.0/16

Yes.

or maybe i could - not turn iptables on by commenting out or removing

 chkconfig iptables OFF

That's probably ok, given that you're behind a firewall/router. Just depends on
how secure you think you need to be.

so , again , i am behind a nating firewall.
and I suspect i need to alter my qt-setup-firewall ( one or both )
 what would those changes be

 then run qt-install

Yep.

and then how do i prove that -- i have it all installed OK

It just works. Proceed with creating domain(s) and user accounts.

 thanks much!

I'm in the process of fixing up the firewall script. No telling when that'll
be completed.

Since before I '06, it blocks traffic from private address blocks, assuming
they're spoofed. This caught me too when I first used QMT.

You could use a squirrelmail plugin to implement this for webmail.

This cannot (and arguably should not) be done in the server. It needs to
be set up in each client.

I'm not familiar with Gmail's procedures for hosted domains. Perhaps
someone at Gmail could help you with this.

I'm sorry to see that you're looking to migrate to Gmail. If you'd be
kind enough to describe your dissatisfaction with QMT, perhaps we could
make improvements in the future which would alleviate the problems which

 Best of luck with Gmail.

[qmailtoaster] Server Replication Issues!

2010-07-31 Thread Alex Kisakye
Greetings All,

I need advice from those using Jake's replication system.

I successfully managed to get both servers to run unison and even at one
point [about 2 weeks ago] I believed both servers where in sync. Well I
checked 2 accounts I have on these servers and they were up to date. However
soon after that I realized that the secondary lags behind about a day or two
and now it's about 4 days back. The challenge is think less bandwidth at
the primary server about 1/1mbps. The secondary locate in US has lots of
bandwidth. Now we don't receive lots of heavy emails from other domains
but the local users do generate lots of emails with Spreadsheets and Word
document attachments this I think is what takes unison ages to sync specific
accounts. Am wondering if anyone has been able to sync toasters with
bandwidth limitations or could there be an issue with my unison? The logs
unison.log doesn't show any errors save for a clean sync process
happening.

I thought of doing a dual delivery such that incoming mail is delivered to
both servers in real time, but I don't know if this would help L

Thanks for all the help

how can i add a common footer for all outgoing e-mail?
Something that's not visible when an user write the e-mail but its attached
before going out. (it's not the personal signature but mostly like the
server signature) It should be a text between 2 and 3 lines, nothing
special.

[qmailtoaster] RE: New Install problems - SOLVED

2010-05-05 Thread Alex Kisakye
Hello,

Thanks to all those who helped. I finally sorted myself out.

I am one of those unlucky to have postfix already installed. I had followed
the guide to remove postfix package at the wiki and create the vchkpw group.

However postfix creates a user with postfix:x:89:89 as a result of this
vpopmail had taken the uid 500 like vpopmail:x:500:89. Now this should work
perfectly for new setups of QMT. However in my case I was bringing a backup
from another QMT which expects vpopmail:x:89:89.

I deleted postfix user and used usermod to change vpopmail to uid 89 but
that didn't solve the problem still. So I decided to re-run
cnt50-install-script.sh skipping every other package except
vpopmail-toaster. I just exited the script after that and now. my old users
can login

I guess the moral here is to delete postfix user after you remove postfix
package

  Hey Natalio,
  QTP uses greylist-level=always

FWIW, qtp-install-spamdyke for v4 will be available with the

you can download it for a limited time at

upgrade from v3. Note, it will not carry forward any
 customized settings

Thanks Eric. My version (latest) of QTP does not include
greylist-level=always in spamdyke.conf, maybe it was configurated by
  default.
The default value in version 4.0.4 is none, so I wasn't using it.

greylist-level is new w/ v4. The latest QTP is still on spamdyke v3,
 so it
wouldn't be there. (just to clarify)

Even if you don't run the new script, you can read through it to see
 what
options it uses. See the b65_create_conf_file(){ function.

Yep, that's what I did. Thanks again.

Now that I think of it, the script creates the greylist directories for you.
If you have many domains and they're all using greylisting, you might want
to use the option which creates the directories automatically for you
(always-create IIRC). Check the documentation.

Yes, I could see that. I run the script modifying the version to 4.x. So it
compiled spamdyke, created all directories and config files. Then, I
modified config file by hand to include the new options. Now it is working

If you dont find anything there: Try ngrep on port 110 and see what
happens when client connects.

ALex,

I don't see any glaring problem. In local.cf I'd use
skip_rbl_checks 0
but that's not a big thing.

Can you find and post the smtp log messages that correspond to this message?

If the smtp log for this message appears normal, I think I'd try using
full-log-dir=/var/log/spamdyke
in spamdyke.conf

[qmailtoaster] Testimony

2007-08-02 Thread Kisakye ALex
Greetings,

My toaster this month has made one year!!

Looking back at the past months, I have had more peaceful days with toaster
running, no failures, no hiccups, ease of administration, a busy mailing
list with users helping users, spam is down etc.

The only issues I have had are when my server HDD failed. I moved my toaster
(Backup and restore scripts) to a PIII, 450MHz. and it was a smooth move not
even my average computer users could tell a difference.

I JUST WANT TO THANK ALL THAT MAINTAIN THIS PROJECT.

sets a default quota and password

Suggestions are welcome.

The script is attarched. Its still missing some functionality but its work

I don't have one, but it could easily be scripted. You still need some sort
of list of users, though. Then just use each user from the list in your
/home/vpopmail/bin/vadduser command in a loop.

[qmailtoaster] Bounced messages issue

2007-05-22 Thread Alex
I have a pretty active alias on my server that forwards to a group of
external email addresses. Yesterday one of those external recepients had
issues with their mail server.

So my server after a while started bouncing messages back to the senders
saying that there was a problem delivering their mail to the external
mail. These are classified I think as misderected bounces and now I am
on spamcop.

http://spamcop.net/fom-serve/cache/329.html#bounces

Is there a way to stop my server from sending these bounces and just
accept messages permanently or discard silently if they can not be
forwarded?

Erik, What I meant with the 2 toasters is that I would want to set up
mail relaying on my toaster. ie if a user with an address
[EMAIL PROTECTED] that is resident on toaster A sends out an email
to [EMAIL PROTECTED], the mail is forwarded to toaster B which finally
delivers it to yahoo.com. and when [EMAIL PROTECTED] sends the reply its
delivered to toaster B which forwards it to toaster A where the
[EMAIL PROTECTED] exists!!! Is that any clearer? I think it more of
having only one smtp server on site as opposed to having two toaster
all doing individial SMTP

Looks like you either forgot to restore /etc/tcprules.d/tcp.smtp to
allow your local ip's without authentication, or you forgot to to
configure smtp-auth on the outlook client.

It will accept mail for any domain that is listed in rcpthosts. You can
then do smtproutes (or run an internal DNS server) and have it send the
messages to the other box.

I've had that error message come up before too. It was due to the
blacklists I have defined. Have you updated your blacklists file ever
since you installed the toaster? There are a few rbl's that are not in
 use anymore.

 This is what I have.
 # cat /var/qmail/control/blacklists

 http://opm.blitzed.org -r cbl.abuseat.org http://cbl.abuseat.org
 -r list.dsbl.org http://list.dsbl.org

Sounds like you could use qmailtoaster-plus, Alex.
# rpm -Uvh
http://svn.shubes.net/qtp/releases/qmailtoaster-plus-0.2.7-1.3.9.noarch.rpm
# qtp-set-rbls -loose

Thanks everyone!
Manually editing the blacklists file solved my problem!

[qmailtoaster] Re: Accepting mail from local mail servers

Hi,

I am not sure what the problem is and how to resolve it. I am hosting my

have some development machines inside the company behind the nat on
internal ips.

When an internal application sends email out to [EMAIL PROTECTED] using

I am pretty sure qmail rejects these emails because they come from a
mailserver behind nat which doesnt resolve to anything.

What do I need to configure on qmailtoaster so I can allow my development
machines to send me email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Is there a setting where I
can just specify my company external ip to allow all the mail from my
internal subnet without being rejected?

Thank you

Re: [qmailtoaster] Re: Accepting mail from local mail servers

2007-01-17 Thread alex
Thank you for all the replys. Eric, you are right. The toaster is seeing
my internal localhost sendmail session as coming from the public nat ip.

My next question is, am i adding the tcp.smtp settings you mentioned to be
able to use mail.company.com from my internal app behind nat to send mail
through the mail.company.com instead of the localhost sendmail?

Basically with allow and relayclient settings in tcp.smtp my internal app
behind nat should be able to send email through the external toaster
without authenticating?

I think i want to do that, but would it be more secure being able to
authenticate from the internal php app to mail.company.com through a
specific account without any tcp.smtp settings?

What JP says would certainly help.

Given what you *have* said though, and making a few presumptions, I might
have a fix for you. Since your internal machines are being nat'd, I'm
thinking that the smtp sessions for these will appear to the toaster to be
coming from the external address of the natting device.

Simply add that address (the external address of your natting device) to
 /etc/tcprules.d/tcp.smtp file like so:
 external.address.of.nat:allow,RELAYCLIENT=
 Regenerate your cdb file:
 # qmailctl cdb
and you should be good to go.

Note, this solution is a tad bit insecure. If someone were able to spoof
this address (while unlikely it *is* possible), they could use your
 toaster
as an open relay. Not much of an issue if it's a private address, somewhat
more so if it's public. The best solution, while not as easy but more
secure, would be to configure the sendmail clients to authenticate
 themselves.

I went into the local.cf file for spamassassin and added

I am not sure which rule is actually working but this is what I added

RE: [qmailtoaster] Whitelisting a mailing list

2006-12-05 Thread Alex
Thank you. I am trying to avoid spam and plus I have all kind of
checking in SA including URIBL etc... I thought there was an easy way to
whitelist a mailing list in qmail.

I already have whitelist_to [EMAIL PROTECTED] for the mainlining list and
still bounces are going back to the mailing list.

Alex,

You could also try to add this to your local.cf or you can create a new
file whitelist.cf and add this to that file

whitelist_to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

This will drop the spam score of all messages sent to your email by 6
points. so you will get your mail but yet get more spam.

Let me know if this does not help.

Thanks

[qmailtoaster] Rewrite sender envelope when forwarding to alias

2006-11-12 Thread Alex
I am trying to figure out how to make all the email that is forwarded to
an alias (containing external emails) look like its sent from
[EMAIL PROTECTED] instead of the original sender.

My server is just a forwarder, but I do not want for the sender to get
bounces from the final destination which is hosted somewhere else as its
totally out of my control and it reveals who my alias is forwarding to.

Is there any solution or some kind of switch/trick to do this?

WIll it be possible that Outlook gets timeout while downloading email /
waiting your server to reply? Try to increase the timeout period to,
say, 5 minutes and see if it works better.

Have you tried to enter the IP address, instead of mail.domain.com,in Outlook? If
it works fine, then may be it's a problem of your DNS server.

Returned by spamassassin???

Ok, let's figure it out the problem:

The problem is one spammer sends you a forged From mail.

1.- If the mail From is not valid, is rejected by chkuser, no bounces

2.- If the mail Recipient is not a valid user on your mailserver is
rejected
by chkuser, so no bounces

3.- If spamassassin says has 12 (by default) hit points your smtp
rejects
it, so it doesn't generate bounces.

4.- If spamassassin says is below 12 is delivered to the mailbox. If
it's
correctly delivered no bounces are generated.

AFAIK Only if is the case 4 could generate bounces just for 4 causes:

1.- Incorrect configured account (for example, alias to non existent
accounts)
2.- Mailbox full or something like this
3.- Redirects to another server that bounces the mail.
4.- You have a relay user that is a spammer

In which category your problem falls?

I've heard that it's not uncommon for spammers to use a secondary (or
lowest
priority) MX server listed on DNS because the backup servers often don't
scan for spam. Sneaky little devils. ;)

It appears that what you need to able to do is to tailor the way spam is
handled according to the IP address it came from. Can maildrop possibly
do this?

[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
 Ok, understood.

You are using a backup MX that doesn't filter any spam.

You can enabl RELAY for that host 208.11.75.2 in
/etc/tcprules.d/tcp.smtp

Something like adding a line like this:

208.11.75.2:allow,RELAYCLIENT=,DKSIGN=/var/qmail/control/domainkeys/%
/private,QMAILQUEUE=/var/qmail/bin/simscan

 and doing a qmailctl cdb

This hopefully disable spamassassin checking for that domain.

Maybe this isn't the best solution, anyway.

Could you afford a paid secondary MX (with spam filtering, if
possible)? :-S

mail.rollernet.us is my secondary mx (its for free). unfortunately
they don't like receiving bounce or reject messages coming from my
primary mx so they disable my account automatically (they call this
backscatter). this is something i dont want because i dont have a
backup if my network goes down for some reason and i dont want to
miss
 any mail.

[qmailtoaster] Fake to: and deliver-to: mail headers simscan problem

2006-11-07 Thread Alex
I am having a bizarre issue. I have per domain/user scanning enabled on
simscan and crafty spammers are faking headers in such a way that

to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
deliver-to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

In simcontrol I have:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:clam=yes,spam=yes
mydomain.com:clam=no,spam=no

the simscan does not scan these spam emails with such headers, I think
because [EMAIL PROTECTED] is not set to be scanned by simscan in
simcontrol.

Even after adding

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:clam=yes,spam=yes

still no scanning. I think this is somekind of a bug maybe in simscan.
Anyone got any ideas on how to block fake header spam? Maybe on the
qmail server level before it hits simscan?

Something must have 'suddenly' changed. :(

Nothing, not one error :(

I really don't know (yet) how all that web stuff works.

That being said, I think I'd try creating a new test domain using
/home/vpopmain/bin/vadddomain, and see if that comes up on signon. I'm
thinking there might be something amiss with the domain you're logging on
to. Give it a try, and that might help narrow things down.

RBLs are used directly from rblsmtpd, which is run as a part of
qmail-smtpd.
It runs before simscan.

SURBLs are a part of SpamAssassin.

 Go to http://wiki.qmailtoaster.com/index.php/Configuration, see RBLs
and
SURBL. Those will give you the biggest bang (in that order).

Note, be sure to have a caching DNS server operational on the toaster
 before
implementing these. See domainkeys for info about that.

Seems like new bug had been discovered in OpenSSL that makes it possible
to exploit some certificates and login as root without a password.

Does anyone know what is the safest way to patch openssl on qmailtoaster
without disrupting other applications/services on centos 4.2 and 4.3..

Thank you

[qmailtoaster] SRS and Qmail

I am having issues with forwarding mail to SPF enabled recipient

Is there a working patch for qmailtoaster or a howto to deal with this

Currently the QmailToaster doesn't support SRS. This is being worked
on, but it is a tough thing to implement properly

Is there a working patch for qmailtoaster or a howto to deal with this

No. There are no Qmail SRS Patches. There is a hack to do it via mutt,
 available here:
 http://wooledge.org/~greg/qmail-srs.html

Is SRS the only way to deal with this or are there any other methods?

Yes, pretty much. It's why I dislike SPF. . .

 Possibly the recipient's quota (qmailadmin).

The documentation isn't very clear on this, but seeing as databytes
doesn't have a corresponding .cdb file, and it's part of qmail-smtpd,
I'd try restarting qmail (qmailctl restart). If that doesn't work I'd
try stopping and starting qmail (qmailctl stop; qmailctl start).

In any case, please let us know your resolution so it can be added to
the wiki FAQs (which you're welcome to do yourself too!).

Try making is 60MB instead of 40MB. If the file is being sent using
uuencoded text instead of base64 it will likely be a bit over twice the
size.

[qmailtoaster] Simscan NOT processing aliases for SPAM and VIRUSES

2006-09-08 Thread Alex

Hi,

Something weird came to my attention. On my server I host 2
domains, one that has all spam/virus scanning disabled via simcontrol
file and one that has it enabled.

I have setup an alias on the domain with disabled simscan [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 [EMAIL PROTECTED]. So
logically all the email coming into [EMAIL PROTECTED]
even forwarded by
[EMAIL PROTECTED] should
be scanned for spam and viruses. NO thats not the case, seems like the
email forwarded by the alias from domain2 is not scanned, even though I
specifically set up simcontrol file to scan that
alias.

Does this mean that simcontrol
file does not work with aliases and only works with accounts? Should I set up [EMAIL PROTECTED] as an account and do
forwarding from an account?

Here is my simcontrol

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:clam=yes,spam=yes

domain1.com:clam=yes,spam=yes

domain2.com:clam=no,spam=no

:clam=yes,spam=ye

RE: [qmailtoaster] CRAM-MD5 AUTH for POP3 in Thunderbird

Thanks,

I have pop3-ssl set up already with certs.

I noticed authentication is done through APOP which I guess is a secure

Hey Alex,

The QmailToaster doesn't support this. You must use pop3-ssl for secure
e-mail.

There are instructions on the wiki for setting up legitimate certs.

How do I find out if my TLS is working

First I ran:

mean authentication is not encrypted?, if so how can

Then Ran

openssl s_client -starttls smtp -showcerts -connect

[qmailtoaster] Qmailtoaster Packages Upgrade Instructions

2006-05-06 Thread Alex
Does anyone have instructions / steps to upgrade a current qmailtoaster
with all the new patches. I saw that some upgrades require certain steps
to be taken to recompile packages such as currier-imap etc..

So far I see only basic approach documented:

# rpmbuild --rebuild --with $DIST clamav-toaster-0.88.1-1.2.12.src.rpm
# qmailctl stop
# rpm -e clamav-toaster --nodeps
# rpm -Uhv /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/$ARCH/clamav-toaster*.rpm
# qmailctl start

Do patches need to be applied in certain order, is there anything else
that should be done? I think that would be a useful info for everyone on
the list.
