[qmailtoaster] Connection problem on a new installed QMT
Dear All, We setup a new QMT system in centos 6.6 64bit by using the new installation procedure in one week ago. There are around 25 users and around 50 email address in there different domains. Everyday, around 3-5 users have connection problem that the outlook popup keeping to ask for password. The outlook keep asking password by popup even user entered the correct password and user id. [qmailtoaster] Server Replication Issues!
Greetings All, I need advice from those using Jake's replication system. I successfully managed to get both servers to run unison and even at one point [about 2 weeks ago] I believed both servers where in sync. Well I checked 2 accounts I have on these servers and they were up to date. However soon after that I realized that the secondary lags behind about a day or two and now it's about 4 days back. The challenge is think less bandwidth at the primary server about 1/1mbps. The secondary locate in US has lots of bandwidth. Now we don't receive lots of heavy emails from other domains but the local users do generate lots of emails with Spreadsheets and Word document attachments this I think is what takes unison ages to sync specific accounts. Am wondering if anyone has been able to sync toasters with bandwidth limitations or could there be an issue with my unison? The logs unison.log doesn't show any errors save for a clean sync process happening. I thought of doing a dual delivery such that incoming mail is delivered to both servers in real time, but I don't know if this would help L Thanks for all the help ALex

However postfix creates a user with postfix:x:89:89 as a result of this vpopmail had taken the uid 500 like vpopmail:x:500:89. Now this should work perfectly for new setups of QMT. However in my case I was bringing a backup from another QMT which expects vpopmail:x:89:89. I deleted postfix user and used usermod to change vpopmail to uid 89 but that didn't solve the problem still. So I decided to re-run cnt50-install-script.sh skipping every other package except vpopmail-toaster. I just exited the script after that and now. my old users can login I guess the moral here is to delete postfix user after you remove postfix package ALex From: Ganesh.payelkar [mailto:ganesh.payel...@gmail.com] Sent: Wednesday, May 05, 2010 11:11 AM To: qmailtoaster-list@qmailtoaster.com Subject: Re: [qmailtoaster] New Install problems Dear Alex, kindly check that you have not configure .qmail for the same user. Sounds like a DNS issue. Your server will perform a reverse DNS lookup on the IP connecting during the initial transaction. What does your /var/qmail/supervise/pop3/run file look like? Try adding an -H to the tcpserver options to disable remote IP lookups. I'm curious about the greylisting feature, and wanted to know which is the preferred option for |graylist-level. | BTW, I installed the latest version (4.0.4), and took configuration file from QTP. There are some changes in the configuration file in the new version, that needs to be updated in the QTP script: the option check-dnsrbl is no longer used, now it is used dns-blacklist-entry log-level now is configured with one of: none, error, info, verbose or debug log-target now is configured with one of: syslog or stderr and the option ip-in-rdns-keyword-file is replaced with ip-in-rdns-keyword-blacklist-file Salutti, Natalio Hey Natalio, QTP uses greylist-level=always FWIW, qtp-install-spamdyke for v4 will be available with the next QTP release (scheduled for the end of this month). For those of you who can't wait that long or who want to try it out before it's officially released, you can download it for a limited time at http://qtp.v2gnu.com/svn/bin/qtp-install-spamdyke. It will install v4 and/or upgrade from v3. Note, it will not carry forward any customized settings from v3 though. Thanks Eric. My version (latest) of QTP does not include greylist-level=always in spamdyke.conf, maybe it was configurated by default. The default value in version 4.0.4 is none, so I wasn't using it. greylist-level is new w/ v4. The latest QTP is still on spamdyke v3, so it wouldn't be there. (just to clarify) Even if you don't run the new script, you can read through it to see what options it uses. See the b65_create_conf_file(){ function. Yep, that's what I did. Thanks again. Now that I think of it, the script creates the greylist directories for you. If you have many domains and they're all using greylisting, you might want to use the option which creates the directories automatically for you (always-create IIRC). Check the documentation. Yes, I could see that. I run the script modifying the version to 4.x. So it compiled spamdyke, created all directories and config files. Then, I modified config file by hand to include the new options. Now it is working fine with greylisting enabled. I'm monitoring log files to assure a correct delivery.

[qmailtoaster] Testimony
Greetings, My toaster this month has made one year!! Looking back at the past months, I have had more peaceful days with toaster running, no failures, no hiccups, ease of administration, a busy mailing list with users helping users, spam is down etc. The only issues I have had are when my server HDD failed. I moved my toaster (Backup and restore scripts) to a PIII, 450MHz. and it was a smooth move not even my average computer users could tell a difference. I JUST WANT TO THANK ALL THAT MAINTAIN THIS PROJECT. ALex

I have a pretty active alias on my server that forwards to a group of external email addresses. Yesterday one of those external recepients had issues with their mail server. Re: [qmailtoaster] outlook errors
Erik, What I meant with the 2 toasters is that I would want to set up mail relaying on my toaster. ie if a user with an address [EMAIL PROTECTED] that is resident on toaster A sends out an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED], the mail is forwarded to toaster B which finally delivers it to yahoo.com. and when [EMAIL PROTECTED] sends the reply its delivered to toaster B which forwards it to toaster A where the [EMAIL PROTECTED] exists!!! Is that any clearer? I think it more of having only one smtp server on site as opposed to having two toaster all doing individial SMTP ALex On 3/19/07, Erik A. [qmailtoaster] Re: Accepting mail from local mail servers
Hi, I am not sure what the problem is and how to resolve it. I am hosting my company qmailtoaster server in the datacenter on an external ip, I also have some development machines inside the company behind the nat on internal ips. When an internal application sends email out to [EMAIL PROTECTED] using sendmail on localhost, I am not getting that email at [EMAIL PROTECTED] I am pretty sure qmail rejects these emails because they come from a mailserver behind nat which doesnt resolve to anything. What do I need to configure on qmailtoaster so I can allow my development machines to send me email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Is there a setting where I can just specify my company external ip to allow all the mail from my internal subnet without being rejected? Re: [qmailtoaster] Re: Accepting mail from local mail servers
Thank you for all the replys. Eric, you are right. The toaster is seeing my internal localhost sendmail session as coming from the public nat ip. My next question is, am i adding the tcp.smtp settings you mentioned to be able to use mail.company.com from my internal app behind nat to send mail through the mail.company.com instead of the localhost sendmail? Basically with allow and relayclient settings in tcp.smtp my internal app behind nat should be able to send email through the external toaster without authenticating? I think i want to do that, but would it be more secure being able to authenticate from the internal php app to mail.company.com through a specific account without any tcp.smtp settings? What JP says would certainly help. Given what you *have* said though, and making a few presumptions, I might have a fix for you. Since your internal machines are being nat'd, I'm thinking that the smtp sessions for these will appear to the toaster to be coming from the external address of the natting device. Simply add that address (the external address of your natting device) to /etc/tcprules.d/tcp.smtp file like so: external.address.of.nat:allow,RELAYCLIENT= Regenerate your cdb file: # qmailctl cdb and you should be good to go. Note, this solution is a tad bit insecure. If someone were able to spoof this address (while unlikely it *is* possible), they could use your toaster as an open relay. Not much of an issue if it's a private address, somewhat more so if it's public. The best solution, while not as easy but more secure, would be to configure the sendmail clients to authenticate themselves. Ok, let's figure it out the problem: The problem is one spammer sends you a forged From mail. 1.- If the mail From is not valid, is rejected by chkuser, no bounces 2.- If the mail Recipient is not a valid user on your mailserver is rejected by chkuser, so no bounces 3.- If spamassassin says has 12 (by default) hit points your smtp rejects it, so it doesn't generate bounces. 4.- If spamassassin says is below 12 is delivered to the mailbox. If it's correctly delivered no bounces are generated. AFAIK Only if is the case 4 could generate bounces just for 4 causes: 1.- Incorrect configured account (for example, alias to non existent accounts) 2.- Mailbox full or something like this 3.- Redirects to another server that bounces the mail. 4.- You have a relay user that is a spammer In which category your problem falls? *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* | David Sanchez Martin | [EMAIL PROTECTED] Administrador de Sistemas| http://www.e2000.es E2000 Nuevas Tecnologias | | E2000 Organizacion de Empresarios|Tel : +34 902 19 61 77 Mediadores de Seguros | | Agustin Bravo Esquina Calle C| 33120 Pravia Asturias Spain | | *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* -Mensaje original- De: Alex [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Enviado el: martes, 07 de noviembre de 2006 18:47 Para: qmailtoaster-list@qmailtoaster.com Asunto: RE: [qmailtoaster] How to discard spamassasin bounces Thank you. Nothing, not one error :( I really don't know (yet) how all that web stuff works. I'm thinking there might be something amiss with the domain you're logging on to. The documentation isn't very clear on this, but seeing as databytes doesn't have a corresponding .cdb file, and it's part of qmail-smtpd, I'd try restarting qmail (qmailctl restart). If that doesn't work I'd try stopping and starting qmail (qmailctl stop; qmailctl start). In any case, please let us know your resolution so it can be added to the wiki FAQs (which you're welcome to do yourself too!). Try making is 60MB instead of 40MB. If the file is being sent using uuencoded text instead of base64 it will likely be a bit over twice the size. [qmailtoaster] Simscan NOT processing aliases for SPAM and VIRUSES
Hi, Something weird came to my attention. On my server I host 2 domains, one that has all spam/virus scanning disabled via simcontrol file and one that has it enabled. I have setup an alias on the domain with disabled simscan [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED]. So logically all the email coming into [EMAIL PROTECTED] even forwarded by [EMAIL PROTECTED] should be scanned for spam and viruses. NO thats not the case, seems like the email forwarded by the alias from domain2 is not scanned, even though I specifically set up simcontrol file to scan that alias. Does this mean that simcontrol file does not work with aliases and only works with accounts? Should I set up [EMAIL PROTECTED] as an account and do forwarding from an account? Here is my simcontrol [EMAIL PROTECTED]:clam=yes, spam=yes domain1.com:clam=yes,spam=yes domain2.com:clam=no,spam=no :clam=yes, spam=ye Thank you
