The SPF problem is extremely intermittent, and difficult to reproduce.
Many people run with SPF 3 and don't notice a problem. I suspect it
*may* be related to a malformed SPF record (which is part of the
sender domain's DNS) that triggers the problem with QMT's SPF
implementation. That's just a guess though. BL is that the difference
between SPF 1 and SPF 3 is negligible, especially with spamdyke
implemented. FWIW, I'm hoping that one day spamdyke will implement SPF
and DKIM checking, but don't look for that enhancement any time this
year. Sam's presently pretty busy with other things.

Hi Eric,

If i read between the lines, i should set SPF on 1. To prevent any
future problems.
Is that correct?

That's the setting I use.

This night the mails 'suddenly' stops dripping in. (SPFbehavior still
on 3).
I read the topic http://wiki.qmailtoaster.com/index.php/Spfbehavior,

Tonight, i will check the header info.
Some things go fast. The mail, comming in with SPFbehavior on 1, have
the following header info:

I will dig into this this evening. Now I have to go...

Congrats on finding this out on your own, Richard. I'm afraid though,
that this isn't a very good solution to the problem. What you've done is
to make yourself available as an open relay to all of the IP addresses
included in the 'part of ip of transmitter'. This is great for spammers,
and bad for you. If a spammer in that address range were to exploit the
relay, you would soon find your IP address blacklisted, preventing you
to send emails to many destinations. This is not a pleasant situation
for anyone to be in. While the likelihood of someone actually exploiting
your host may be low, it's best to simply eliminate the possibility. As
a result, I recommend undoing your change to the tcp.smtp file, followed
by doing a
# service qmail cdb
to make the change effective.

Now the question is, why/how did that cure your delivery problem? Adding
the RELAYCLIENT variable does a few things, but not all that much. It
causes simscan to bypass SpamAssassin scanning (clamav scanning is still
done), and it allows the sender to send to absolutely any domain (the
Relay part) as opposed to sending only to the domains which are local to
your host (domains listed in your rcpthosts file).

As you'll notice in the smtp log, the next thing that typically follows
the chkuser sender message is the chkuser rcpt (recipient) message. So
it's a good guess that something is amiss with the message recipient(s),
which is consistent with what we've observed with RELAYCLIENT. It's
unfortunate in this case that qmail or chkuser doesn't give us any kind
of message as to what exactly the problem is. That's not acceptable in
my mind, but we'll have to work around it in the meantime.

Speaking of log messages, qmail/SPF used to reject incoming messages
with no log message, but that's been subsequently fixed. I also don't
know if RELAYCLIENT bypasses the SPF check or not. I suppose it's
possible that this is the problem you're experiencing. You might try
changing your /var/qmail/control/spfbehavior from 3 to 1, then
restarting qmail, and see if perhaps that remedies your problem.

How old is your qmail-toaster package?
# rpm -qa | grep toaster | sort
will show us what versions you're running. Also,
# qtp-whatami
would be helpful.

Let us know if this remedies your problem or not. If it doesn't I would
install spamdyke (definitely do this regardless), then use spamdyke's
detailed logging facility to see exactly what's going on with this. That
would be the easiest way to see exactly where the smtp session fails.

[qmailtoaster] Account.Inbox as subfolder of other account

Hi list,

On my e-mail server I have the account 'rich...@..' and 'postmas...@..'.
With Thunderbird I setup the two accounts and I can see both mail, just by
clicking on the INBOX of each account.

With webmail I have to logout, and login back with the other account to
see the mail of the other account. I cannot switch quickly between those
accounts. Also not with different tabs in Firefox.

And now the dirty question: Can I have the 'postmaster.Inbox' as subfolder

Re: [qmailtoaster] Advantage/Disadvantage ...??

2009-09-25 Thread Richard Vinke

I don't use LVM.
I have two disks, one for the system install, and one for the /var and
/home dir.

Advantage: I can install a new operating system, without loosing data.

I have a private server on CentOS (qmail, http, foswiki, samba, download
progs). For a production server this can be different.

Sadly, no. spamdyke is effective when/because it's connected to the
sending smtp server. It cannot be implemented with fetchmail. By then
it's too late. :(

Thanks Eric.
That saves me time installing it.

If you want all output (normal message and errors) to go to /dev/null,
you need to redirect stdout first, then redirect stderr to stdout:

In the tcp.smtp file, there is a difference between your local stuff
(127.) and the rest.

The line after 127.: says: no scanning
Fetchmail is seen as local, therefore it is not scanned.

Remove the 127.: line (or start it with a #) and "qmailctl cdb" should
do the job.

Did you run =qmailctl cdb= ?

I'm trying to send a 15mb e-mail but it doesn't work...

Re: [qmailtoaster] clamav-toaster-0.95.1-1.3.27 released

2009-04-16 Thread Richard Vinke
You can find the commands in the install script
(cnt50-install-script.sh) you used during installing the qmailtoaster.

For fedora_10: rpmbuild --rebuild --with fedora_10 'new src.rpm file'
and rpm -Uvh /root/rpmbuild/RPMS/i386/'new rpm file'

No need for stopping qmail, but I always use: |/var/qmail/bin/simscanmk;
/var/qmail/bin/simscanmk -g;||qmailctl cdb

Good luck!

This is a bugfix release, and upgrading is highly recommended. It
fixes a problem in qtp-newmodel with perl dependencies. Thanks to
Steve Huff for helping to make qtp-newmodel more bullet-proof in the

You can upgrade to this version (if you have the qmailtoaster-plus

alternatively use "rpm -Uvh

2. enable the plugin in v310.pre
3. edit the local.cf and add "use razor2" and "razor_config

"sudo -u vpopmail -H spamassassin -D --lint" gives no errors and
messages are being marked correctly.

Now I am trying to enable DCC and am having issues. I maybe doing
something wrong. This is what I have done...
1. I configured DCC using "./configure --disable-sys-inst

2. edit the local.cf and add "use_dcc 1' and "dcc_path
/usr/local/bin/dccproc"

3. enable the plugin in v310.pre

"sudo -u vpopmail -H spamassassin -D --lint" gives no errors. I have
not seen any messages with a header marked regarding DCC so I do not
think that it is working. The spamd log file is also not showing any
thing.

What am I doing wrong?

[qmailtoaster] MailTo root

2009-02-25 Thread Richard Vinke

Hi all

logwatch is sending the mail to "root". This is the default.
But the mail is send to "r...@server6.server6="
As I edited all files in "/var/qmail/alias/" to

### Logwatch 7.3.6 (05/19/07)

It mentions twice the hostname of my server (server6).

If I change the logwatch.conf MailTo line to =MailTo =
postmas...@mydomain.nl=, the mail is send correctly to my account.

In the logwatch script the "To:" is filled in correctly (I added a
second line to echo the variable). The line is "To: root". No additons
of "@server6.server6".

Where is the double servername coming from?

It's a test computer. Running on WinXP64. With VMWare. In one VM it's
running the fedora_10 with the mail server. Inside this WM it's 32bits.
But I cannot confirm this 32bits status anywhere.

Are you running 64-bit?

Under /var/qmail/alias you will have a couple files. They're hidden:
.qmail-postmaster
.qmail-root

Inside those files you will see what email address is defined for each
(aptly named).

You can also define .qmail-anonymous and .qmail-mailer-daemon

Thanks!
I changed all the files in /var/qmail/alias and added your two other files.
If I run logwatch, the user postmas...@mydomain.nl gets the following mail:

If I run logwatch, the user postmas...@mydomain.nl gets the following
mail:

What are the contents of the files? For mail delivered to 'root' to be
delivered somewhere else:

&u...@domain.tld

Also check and make sure that your servername and mail.servername.com
are written before 'localhost' in your /etc/hosts file.
(I believe the & was required for outside delivery Dimly remember
something about that, but don't hold me to it)
I added a domain 'server6.server6' and added a forward from
'r...@server6.server6' (tip from dnk) to 'postmas...@mydomain.nl'
Now the mail is send correctly to 'postmas...@mydomain.nl', but the From
field says: 'r...@server6.server6' (not a big problem)

All the files in /var/qmail/alias contains: '&postmas...@mydomain.nl'
(also tried without the '&'). The mail is still send to the
'server6.server6' domain.

Strange, just edditing these files gives not the correct response.
