hi all, great discussion here well, 6 cans are better for the tx power you operate , you need a good separation between your receive and your tx . with 6 your are in business 4 can be used too but i would suggect droping at 90 or 85 watts also they depends also if you had not problem adjusting your can as individual,if they perform well and was easy to adjust. one day i had problem with one can in a duplexer that corupt the performance of the duplexer . better filtration between tx and rx is the target ,i am using here 105 watts and a master 2 and 45 watts with 4 cans and 2 Phoenix as repeater 73/s gervais,ve2ckn Yahoo! Then again, if you're needs are very simple, like a single small rack and an antenna or two, maybe you can negotiate for a corner in a garage or outbuilding. The Hamtronics TD-2 would do the job quite nice. I would probably do something different from throwing the AC Mains on and off, but it's not a bad idea. It just makes me nervous trying to tell someone how/why to switch semi large AC loads on and off. A high ac load current Solid State Relay with 3-30 volt dc control would be required. Good ones seem to run about $10 to $20 US on the used/new old stock market place. I would have simply disabled the UHF MSR with some dc logic lines... but shutting off the unused MSR isn't a bad deal when you're paying for electricity. Note the SSR (solid state relay) should be the switch at zero cross sine wave type, else you'll have large thuds and groans from the power transformer switching on during fractional on times of the supply ac sine wave. There is a characteristic about SSRs that you should be aware of. In the off state a SSR can have a leakage value that can be as low as 100K ohms. That's enough to light a NE2 neon bulb. It's also enough to shock you if you get across an open circuit. Be sure to include a safety switch in series for working on the system. Of course you need a fuse or circuit breaker too. Fred, AE6QL You could easily be in and out of this project for about $100 US. cheers, skipp gervais fillion [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: well skip i would go for that kind of project: on the vhf transmetter i would install a controler that would control the AC of the uhf link msr, as simple as that in theory i would send a dtmf code on the vhf and the controler would turn off the uhf radio by cutting the 120vac,as simple as that . now i must find a board that can do that ,and add a relay for the turn on and off of the msr uhf 73/s skipp gervais,ve2ckn Original Message Follows From: skipp025 [EMAIL PROTECTED] Reply-To: Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com To: Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com Subject: [Repeater-Builder] Re: interface to shut off a radio on temporaly base Date: Mon, 02 Jan 2006 17:59:28 - gervais fillion [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Well,i dont know if i am at the right place but i'm going fishing here! With enough information, it would not be a problem to do the modification yourself. these MSR are so rare to find good one around here, sometime you may find one but when you see it you wonder why it is not at the scrap yardthey are so used and dirty. I pull the cards, receiver, transmitter, power amplifier and power supply from the chassis. I then mix up a bucket of warm water - Spic and Span and scrub down everything. Hose all the soap out and let it dry in the sun or a warm shop with air moving by it. A warm towell and a compressed air supply help blow out the remaining moisture. I'd like to second Skipps comments and add one of my own. At the factory we used ordinary dish washers (until we got the commercial washers) to clean PC boards. Most components are water safe. Exceptions, are non hermetic parts like switches and transformers; things with paper or bakalite coil forms. Spic and Span is a little harsh. For general cleaning, including automatic dish washers, useArm and Hammer baking soda. If you think someone has used an acid flux (sometimes necessary to solder nickel or steel) clean with ammonia before the baking soda. Finally if you have rosin flux isopropyl alcohol works well. Don't use rubbing alcohol (contains water) or use alcohol in the automatic dish washer (it will burn). Fred AE6QL For the most part, there is nothing left in the cabinet that will be damaged by a good cleaning if you can remove the remaining clean water/moisture within a reasonable time frame. Micor or MSR hardware can be cleaned up pretty well. ,it will not happened often this turn on and off event so it will not damage the equipment. The MSR Power supply - Ferro Resonant transformer is very hard to kill. I doubt you'll hurt the repeater/base. i remember seeing somewhere on the web an australian that built a board that what use to turn on and off a remote wheater station ,,,that was operate via a repeater ,,, another thing to find A number of dtmf controllers are available. Date: Wed, 31 May 2006 19:16:52 -0700 Not 100% sure of what you want Gervais... are you looking to splitting a 210-C4 in half to create two 210-C2 's? Why? You don't modify the Z you match whatever is presented to you. That'll be a lot of work. The harness in the Sinclair 210-C4 is mounted internal within the support mast so it might be a bit of a trick... you'll have to take it apart big time. At some point inside the support mast the top two dipoles are phased by coax with the bottom two dipoles...don't know what Z that coax is. But that's where you would split them. one thing though, if you parallel two feelines that present 100ohms, you can feed it with 50 ohms.. and away you go with your RG8uNO?? But with the Sinclair design I am not sure that the interconnection cable presents 50ohms at the point the top and bottom pairs are joined... if it is your away to the races... should but not 100% sure as I have never taken one apart. I have made up many 4 and 8 pole collinears in my day but I have always used 1/4 wave multiples of RG11U as required 1/4... 3/4 5/4...any odd multiple, velocity factor considered, is acceptable. Gervais...remember the loops themselves contain the balun as the loops being folded dipoles are supposed to be 300ohms balanced at the feedpoint...so feeding em with coax first requires a balun.. that balun should take it down to 50 ohms then the phasing harness interconnects the individual dipoles.. Gervais... measure the dipoles... they should be between 18-20 if for low VHF cut... if they are only 16 they are too short to be of any amateur use. Finally have a look at the tail... is it RG8 or 213U or is it RG11U... if it is RG11 you will probably have a problem as the tail must NOT be cut or changed ... it is a phasing stub. This is common on some beams matching the 300ohm driven element but they have been so many versions over the years... you never know. Any other thoughts? I think I know what you have Aaron... you are describing one of those older Sinclair antennas that had two separate 2 bay collinear antennas integrated into the same mast... we had one here... but be careful with that antenna. First check to make sure both bays (or sets) are cut the same... better to sweep the antennas or at least put some power into them and check the reflected power @146.00mhz . Unlike the Sinclair antennas of today those older collinear antennas often had a fairly narrow bandwidth... if they were cut 160 -174mhz (as ours were) your outa luck... 148-160mhz your in luck... they will work ok at 146mhz ok before putting this antenna up check the vswr or reflected power with a Bird wattmeterit should be around 1 maybe 2 watts returned for 25 in as there will be little return loss with no long fedline if you see 5 watts or more there is a problem. Aaron... there is no loss when you PROPERLY co-phase the (2) 2bay antennas together... there will be a net gain of 3db... 4 bays will give you approximately 6db omni or 9db cardioid offset so put the 25 watts into it... your ERP (effective radiated power) will be 100 (6db omni) or 200 watts (9db offset) You can try -phasing those two antennas together by making up a simple phasing harness of 2 chunks of about 11.5

Kevin thanks for the response i am working on converting a big pager transmetter,Motorola Micor 125 watts SHD ,it receive in UHF and his TX is low split at 140.?? mhz so by replacing the receiver in uhf i should be able to modify it Kevin for our project here. i must say that i am not a tech but i have the Moto Manual with it so with some help i should be ablei will swap the receiver uit and after will see what happens :-) i had a suggestion to replace the uhf receiver by a Phoenix Vhf and use his receiver part for my project by since i may find a used receiver at a good price it could be less problematic to fix it! what were the mods that have been done on the other card Kevin? we plan to install this transmetter on a 3000 feets mountains so we need reliabity and this Micor should do the job 73/s Kevin Gervais ve2ckn Bic,quebec Original Message Follows From: Kevin Custer [EMAIL PROTECTED] Reply-To: Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com To: Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com Subject: Re: [Repeater-Builder] Micor Receiver Wanted Date: Sat, 27 Jan 2007 18:21:00 -0500 gervais fillion wrote: hi all i am looking for a used Micor receiver his parts number is TLD 8272B if you have 1 and want to sell it ,let me know your price thanks in advance gervais,ve2ckn Would you consider a TLD 8273B that has been properly converted to a TLD 8272B? Dave gave us the model of your antenna,is it the 4 loops on a 20 feets mast antenna? here in Canada it is called the SRL210A4 or SRL210C4 depending if the harness is inside the mast or outside. normally the loop are 36 inches or less from the mast (i dont have my specs near),it will affect your tx pattern also, the most you get far from the tower the best result you will have because of the tower will have a effect of reflector over the antenna you will install,, i just install one at 250 feets and they were install 4 feets from the tower 73/s Dave gervais,ve2ckn Original Message Follows From: Dave VanHorn [EMAIL PROTECTED] Reply-To: Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com To: Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com Subject: [Repeater-Builder] Antenna on the side of a water tower. But in any case the Micor VHF hi exciters are supposed to be 400 milliwatts out. So, if you want to drive any of the Micor PA'S with 350 mw, it should be fine. In my experience, nearly always you can get the rated output with 250 mw drive. Keep in mind that usually Motorola installed a small bandpass filter between the exciter and PA to keep harmonics, etc down. And that little harmonic filter had some loss. So, 250 to 350 mw should be plenty. _
RE: [Repeater-Builder] Folded Diploles or Vertical antenna?
Hi Nate we tryed the SD222-SF3PASNM and we find it quite directionnal i must say. the SD212-HF2P2SNM has been my antenna for 5 years and never failed me and since we are in salted air region they are well built too. in fact my other repeater will have this antenna and remember too that the antenna bracket aer HD,really HD,you dont find these in the commun Hardware store. we tryed fiberglass verticall, they dont have the save pattern of transmission of the dipole and mecanically,,check the metal structure for the radiation factor. i would pick the C(SD212-HF2P2SNM) for their need anytime ,the vertical, because of the fiberglass coting will degrade also after time ,,,it is a consideration to be made ,,,if you dont want to climb in the tower every 6 month to check it. you explanation are good Nate ,and clear too. 73/s all gervais ve2ckn

I did not replace any of the other RG-213 cables in the harness.73 - Jim W5ZIT--- On Fri, 11/21/08, kc7stw [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: From: kc7stw [EMAIL PROTECTED]Subject: [Repeater-Builder] Sinclair q202gc duplexersTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Friday, November 21, 2008, 10:03 PM I am new to the sinclair line of duplexers. I have a set of used vhf duplexers setup in the high vhf range. current freqs are 165.2375 and 165.1375. Has anyone had luck changing the coax harness to the longer 36cm and getting the duplexers to tune down to the two meter band?Thanks-Jason ,_._,___ _
