Workaround for this one so long is:
After you are happy with your guide, rotate the whole guide with the main
controller so the spine looks up in y, create the rig and rotate the main
controller so your rig targets in z direction again. Don't forget to freeze
the transforms of your main controller after you rotated it.

When I create it horizontal so it fits to a quadruped it starts flipping as
soon as the root or eff are moved in y.
In gear this isn't the case. Do I miss a setting for the upvector somewere ?

Not sure about the skin weights stuff in the beta.

I did one module to do export and import weights at generation time. But I
remove it from the first release, since I want to change some stuff.

This version is using Pickle, I think the original Gear skin export/import
was xml.

However I didn't make anything to exchange the data between maya and
softimage.

My recommendation for Maya skinning is ngSkintools. This plugin is free and
works really well.

Picked it up again when I found the UnrealEngine auto rig, but nearly 
lost my shit around the whole z is up thing

Hey guys,

Miquel did an awesome job on this one. I played a bit with it and it's
pretty close to what it is in Softimage. It's not the full toolset though..
but it makes sense as you might not need the same kind of tools in Maya
anyway.
Miquel knows Gear better than I do now. I haven't touch it for a while so
you can trust him to be the perfect guy for the job. He knows the tool,
knows what it is good for and has paid attention to make sure those nice
things are now available in your least favorite software ;-)
