calendar selection on invite

2018-06-11 Thread Martin Freitag
Hello,

When one receives an email with an appointment (ICS), Lightning will
show a blue "banner" to add the appointment.
(In about:config it's necessary to have
calendar.google.enableEmailInvitations = true
to have direct write access to Google Calendar via invitations.)

Unfortunately, after pressing the button in the blue banner only a
selection of possible calendars that SM considers "worthy" is shown.
Although I have two calendars of the same account using Provider for
Google Calendar (once the main calendar and an additional one), only one
of them is "worthy" of this function. (and a local calendar, which is
not the topic here)

Meanwhile I had read that it is because a calendar needs to be linked to
the e-mail account.
Unfortunately, under right-click => properties the GUI offers an e-mail
selection only for the "worthy" calendar (there I cannot select an
e-mail for the target calendar, the option is simply missing).
Therefore I tried manual setting of
calendar.registry.{calender-id}.imip.identity.key
with the ID of the email account, but this brought no change.

Does anyone have any idea if something else is linked or activated
elsewhere?
kind regards

Martin

SeaMonkey 2.x is well-alive and should work well with most websites out
there, I very rarely have any problems.

SeaMonkey 1.x is mostly dead though and if you are still using those
versions, you probably should switch to 2.0 soon.

I'd love to, but there's no way of migrating to it from 1.1.18

SM migrates your profile after install on first startup.

Yes, your folders are stored in files called inbox, sent, trash etc. in

If you didn't uninstall SM1.1.x before installing SM2, please make sure

Your emails are not gone or lost, your old SM1.1.x profile remains
intact as long as you don't delete it in you documents and settings
folder, totally indeendent of the program-installation.
See http://seamonkey.ilias.ca/profilefaq/ for details about the profile
location.
When installing SM2 and starting it for the first time, SM2 will migrate
your data to a _new_ profile in another directory under documents and
settings.
Feel free to try to install SM2 to a new directory and see if it starts
up with your data. If it doesn't, try to start the migration manually:

If you still don't have access to your mail, try to install SM1.1.18

I am very appreciative of the good advice but I still am not doing

I copied the original profile location under 'Documents and Settings' on

And, by the way... wouldn't this be a core (Gecko) enhancement?

Have you rebooted your PC in the meantime? If not, do so or shutdwn all
seamonkey and kill all seamonkey.exe processes in the taskmanager.
And/or make sure that the quick-starter in the systray (next to the
clock in the taskbar) of SM1.x is not active

If all that doesn't help, make sure you're not running any indexing
software/desktop-search or do it in safe-mode, where it's not active.

No, I guess ths wouldn't be a big difference. I'd suggest you create a

Try just clicking Yes when the message pops up.

Ha ha.
The point is that the 'yes' doesn't seem to take.

All seriousness aside, I'll instruct her to just do it!

Try the following:
Right-click on a Seamonkey shortcut on the desktop or in the start-menu

upcoming context menu, confirm the security warning, reproduce that
dialog with the question to set a default browser you mentioned and then

Henrik, perhaps Martin should have mentioned that, to choose during

not knowing just what form of encryption is being applied

Browser? MailNews?

Password and Forms Managers, and when storing or retaining PII in
general - it was pretty clear in the past that SM 1.1.x was using strong
128 bit encryption for Password storage...in 2.x.x they dropped the
notification text from the dialog, and when it comes to encryption I
never assume anything - other than that if you don't specifically tell
me otherwise I assume that I'm vulnerable.

Hum, okay I never noticed that, I guess that could easily be fixed once
a bug is filed.

That's the most notable one - though I recently discovered (last night)
that there's some funkiness going on with the Customization of the
Taskbars too - if you select use small icons it changes both the
Navigation and Personal Taskbars to small. If you then select use large
icons it changes both the Navigation and Personal Taskbars to large.

I cannot confirm that:
http://img682.imageshack.us/img682/8031/smtoolbarsmall.png
http://img709.imageshack.us/img709/340/smtoolbarbig.png
Tried several times, no problems switching individually. Only thing I
noticed it that the personal bar won't get bigger, no matter what
setting is being chosen.

And I found I could only right-click up a contextual menu if I right
clicked in the Navigation Taskbar - that was the confusing part; I
should have been able to select either independently, I would think.
That's intuitive.

It is, it says settings-bla for _this_ bar and (at last for me) it
behaves that way, too.

First there's the need to provide your master password when you start

could something like that slip through the development process? Do the
developers not use master passwords?

If it only asks once, what'S your problem?
Is it possible that you have fetching mails on start without opening
MailNews enabled in the preferences and it needs your Master-PW for that?

Second it is just mind-numbingly slow. It takes for ever to resolve site
addresses and forever to download web pages. It often just times out. SM
1.1.18 has no problems at all, on the exact same system (neither does
Opera).

I've never heared that before about SM2 compared to SM1, I would
recommend testing with another profile or in safe-mode.

Flashblock will not install. It just gets itself into an install loop:
every time you start SM 2.0.1, Flashblock tries to install again.

Flashblock works like a charm in SM2, that's another reason I think your
SM2-installation and/or profile is not ok.

The new download progress dialog's ridiculous small buttons are another
issue, but this has been beaten to death (and I wish this new design had
been).

As you already read about it, feel free to create an improved version ;)

Hum, it's not that bad for me but you're right usually SM2 should
perform better in javascript performance than SM1, not worse.

Here is another site (Dutch) it freezes SM2 completely CPU Load 100%
SM 1.1.18 is sluggish but browsable.
http://vara.dmd.omroep.nl/x/?S7Y1.p9ra2FmYPy.yNbMxNLY2BAAm61ns_service=mailns_robot=partner-webpowerns_mail_uid=649331ns_mail_job=8603ns_campaign=Kassa%20Consumentencategory=kassapo_source=emailns_source=emailns_mchannel=nieuws_informatiens_linkname=weblinkns_webdir=kassathema=consument

I cannot confirm that, SM2 is at 0% CPU load when browsing that site
here. This seems to be another issue then. (try verify that in safe-mode
or with a new profile, if it's gone then, probably an extension causes this)

SM 1.1.18, same site: CPU load is 88 - 93 %, browsing the site is

The same site loads with no problems with IE 6.1 and Opera 10.10.

Which ones? Most popular extensions which worked in SM1 do work (some

Seamonkey just isn't getting the

anything to do with it, that the text in the status bar showing what's

You're not providing much information here. However, if I had to guess,
it would be that the site was browser sniffing, deciding that you must
be running IE (because they don't detect Firefox) and sending you JS
code that won't run on Gecko.

Can you try spoofing your user agent string to include Firefox and see
if you have the same problem?

This also often happens with poorly designed JS code, which executes too
long. The javascript engine of SM1 also is wayyy slower than the SM2 one.

Also, I can't seem to find the setting Forward messages as

Both profiles have the same master passwd.

As you may guess, however, the contents of the signons.sqlite are
ignored by the new profile, even though lsof(8) confirms that it
has the file open and it will add working entries to that same file.

The differences between a new, working entry and the existing, ignored
entry are only that the migrated entries lack formsubmiturl fields and
the IV and crypt-text are of course different. (As shown by derdump
from nss.)

Is a signons.sqlite file tied to another file in the profile, such as
key3.db?

Afaik, yes.

Is there any clean way to merge signons between profiles?

If you're familiar with databases, maybe SQLite Manager is worth a try.

the page on display at the time of switching profiles is used.

Now that could be considered a feature but to me seems a bug. If this
is by intent, there should be a method to turn on/off this feature in
Preferences.

Th other profile hs it's own starting page. But if a new starting page

not a feature and should be filed to bugzilla I guess.

This is exactly the same experience I had when firing up SM on Win7.
It's the cleartype functionality of Win7. You can try to turn it off in
the OS (but many fonts will look pretty ugly then) or choose another
font for things like the message display in the Seamonkey preferences,
e.g. compare Courier and Courier New for the fixed width font and you'll
see a huuuge difference when reading mail/newsgroup messages.
