Yes, I don't know what that is. It doesn't seem to do anyting, so I just
hear it and make a mental note of it and go on. It happens usually at the
end of a download, like when I'm downloading a book from BARD. Pam.

A side note, anyone else?
I was just in internet explorer in the website where I get allot of lockups.
I got none but it is about 4:30 am so likely little net traffic here and not
allot of dynamic, flash and other ads being scheduled since they don't want
to waste money with ads when few people are online in this area.
Now, when I closed internet explorer and returned to my desktop program I
heard a ca ching and WindowEyes said there was no information bar, think it
was information bar and then I was placed into my desktop program as usual.
I used alt-f4 to close internet explorer so this message should not have
happened unless WindowEyes was confused about something and so I thought I
would see if others have heard this or something similar.
It may indicate WindowEyes processing a message or something like being in
the wrong script or something if it happens so it was unusual, happened and
we need to see if it is happening often enough to be in consideration when
thinking about internet explorer, focus and intermittant problems we are
encountering.
But if others are not having these types of problems we might not need to
include them in looking at the problem at hand - don't know but it was an
incorrect response by WindowEyes to a simple alt-f4 to close internet
explorer.

Hi Neville,

As you no doubt recall, you and I discussed the issue of the default Table

While I can certainly confirm that this setting is the default, on
reflection I think it was an attempt by the developer to give a consistent
starting-point for table navigation.
Wile, at first, I found this setting to be a nuisance, (especially given the
fact that it bothered me that perhaps something serious was wrong), over the
last month or so I have come to appreciate that it may indeed be a stroke of
genious on the part of the developer.
This is because at least it gives the user a lot of information which might
be helpful as they encounter new tables whose structure they do not know
yet.
I'm learning to see the good intentions of software developers.
"They need to create somewhat safe initial settings for their software,

Besides, it only takes a few presses of Control-Shift-H to rotor to the
setting you like.

RE: Is WindowEyes Causing All Internet And Other Crashes?

2016-02-18 Thread Rod Hutton via Talk
Hi Tony,

Please take this in the spirit in which it is intended, that is, to help you
have a more pleasant email reading and writing experience.
I have found the need to move first from WLM to Thunderbird and then from
Thunderbird to Outlook.
The need to do this was the result of finding it extremely difficult, if not
impossible, to experience reliable cursor tracking.
Since moving to Outlook a couple of years ago, I have not had any cursor
tracking problems.
In short, I've had to care for my problem myself, rather than wait for AI
Squared to solve it.
I would like to suggest that you move to another email client, and, again, I
intend this in order to help you.
Three years is much too long, in my opinion, to force yourself to put up
with these problems.
As I've said to others, I believe we have the best chance to have an
accessible email client if we use Outlook, as it is part of the Office
suite, a widely-used Microsoft product.

With respect,

Rod Hutton

Hello Rick,

No, you are not imagining problems in WE 9.X.

A I Squared seems to be annoyingly silent about solutions or even
recognizing there are those, for what ever reasons, WE 9.X just does not
work reliably.

By now, I would think Tech Support would have loads of notes about the
configuration of systems that are having problems. I would think they
could start noticing patterns and recognize equipment that either needs
to be updated, or switched out for something else.

I believe WE 9 has issues with memory. On my system, if I left the
system stay idle for two three hours, and then start using it, it is a
matter of minutes before I get a lock up, Speech goes quiet, or an
outright Freeze of the system. All requiring a total shut down and
re-start. Rarely does using the short cut key to re-start WE 9, work.

I do not wish to buy JAWS, or even entertain going over to JAWS. I like
WE and have used it for years. I wish A I Squared was a bit more up
front with their customers, but remaining quiet, which gives the
impression they are ignoring problems, seems to be their way of
communicating
with customers.Ignoring problems is not a smart way to run a
business, and if done long enough, the problems do not go away, but the
customers do.

Even if A I Squared would say, Yes, we have a problem on some systems.
We are not sure just why some have issues and others do not, but we are
working on finding a solution.even something like this would at
least keep me from pulling my hair out, thinking that the problem could
be my system, or something in it that is causing issues.

Honesty goes a long way in keeping my loyalty. Silence on the other
hand makes me feel as if I am ignored.

I keep thinking if I had more memeory, that just maybe WE 9 would work a
bit better. Any here with 16 GB of RAM having problems with WE locking
up, or Speech going away?

Honesty goes a long way in keeping my loyalty. Silence on the other
hand makes me feel as if I am ignored.

I keep thinking if I had more memeory, that just maybe WE 9 would work a
bit better. Any here with 16 GB of RAM having problems with WE locking

Hi: Yes, I had allot of focus problems due to that popup.
This is one reason I am still concerned that WindowEyes is not handling them
properly and there are likely others happening.
Often I would hear "give us feedback" even after turning this off in the
Windows10 settings, think it was "send us feedback" before I turned it off.
Now when I switch pages or open a new program I will hear "Clear" or "clear
button" meaning something else is popping up that I cant find after I hear
it read using any of the WindowEyes keys so far.
There a lot of moving parts to Windows and how the screen reader handles
them can be a problem for focus, insert position and the relationship
between them me thinks.
That message is one thing that pushed me over the edge and convinced me to
upgrade to Windows10 but I am not sure that just turning that message off,
some folks had figured out a way to do it, I would have been happier with
Windows8.1 or whatever it was.
Anyway, there should be a way to turn off that popup and perhaps someone
will RePost the solution.

Reading the postings it seems that this problem is not unique to WindowEyes
but is perhaps worse in WindowEyes.
There are indications that it happens most often in Internet Explorer or, at
least, is most identifyable in InternetExplorer with the dialog that
InternetExplorer says the program is not responding (same dialog when JAWS
locked up in Internet Explorer) but WindowEyes will not usually notify you
the problem has occurred and just locks up - this should be fixed by
AISquared so we can be notified and close the offending program.
Note that it is likely not Internet Explorer lockinng up but some program
being called or used by Internet Explorer like one that might display an ad
or flash or something because closing the program that is not responding
does not close Internet Explorer but after closing the program not
responding you are still in Internet Explorer and can continue working in
that program.
Some have noticed better results when not using background processes like
the automagic update of synced programs like cloud related programs, note
that OneNote and other things that come with our Operating Systems also can
be using these types of features by default.
Also, there allot of Live Tiles that will access the internet automagically
and send or gather information from external online web pages and, or, web
services which is akin to using a cloud service in that both have to access
something on the internet and thus prone to internet transmission and many
other problems.
Even programs that you would think wouldn't access the internet from your
desktop might be doing something online behind the scenes so this is one
possible avenue but tonarrow things down we can do a few things.
First, you folks who use Mazilla and Chrome for your browsers, have you
noticed any lockups at all using WindowEyes?
Second, the next time I get a Internet Explorer lockup I will try and hit
the Debug button instead of the close button to see what I can find out
about the error like what program(s) are related to it if the error will
give me that much detail.
I forget the WindowEyes hot key to copy a MessageBox which is usually not
able to be read with the normal arrow keys, anyone remember it off the top
of your head?

Wouldn't it be nice for the Ai Squared staff to chime in on this topic.
They could outline for us what issues that WE has with IE, whether the
cloud is a issue and so on. In the past the staff always says it is a
issue with IE and not WE but a better explaination sure would be nice.
We waited for years for a browse mode update and things do work better
but as we have seen there are still issues.

Note also, that JAWS 17 added a feature to automatically restart itself if it
can’t talk to the window that has focus for 5 seconds. This essentially solves
the lockup problem for JAWS, at the expense of a 5 second hang and any non
saved options being lost.

I expect we could probably write an App that does essentially the same thing,
perhaps with an little extra nudge from an outside program. UNIX developers
have often build in auto restart service functionality.

Would there be interest from the community to have a auto-restart when hung
functionality in WindowEyes?

RE: Is WindowEyes Causing All Internet And Other Crashes?

2016-02-18 Thread Rick Thomas via Talk

I noticed on e*trade windoweyes would not expand a item labeled Tax

the browsers handle it is causing WindowEyes problems and perhaps causing

I can run some tests using JAWS, havent done that yet, but don't have nor

I won't be able to answer all your questions, but I'm using the latest
WE on a Windows 8.0? (whatever Windows came before Windows-10. There
seem to be fewer IE messages while I am watching the videos on
dailymotion.com. When I click on the close the program button (or link
I can't remember) the video goes back to the beginning.

RE: Is WindowEyes Causing All Internet And Other Crashes?

2016-02-18 Thread Rick Thomas via Talk

I actually never thought Window-eyes was causing the browser crashing
problem in IE. I just know Window-eyes does not announce the crash
and NVDA lets me know what is happening by announcing the crash once
I invoke NVDA.
By the way, using more than one screen reader to accomplish various

two screen readers on your system just makes good sense to me.

Then, if still not quite sure what is going on, I tried reading a dialog box

Hi: Yup, WE does not usually read that dialog, just locks up.
I just ran through some web pages that lock up allot with WindowEyes using
JAWS.
After navigating through a few of them JAWS reported that Internet Explorer
was not responding and had the buttons to close the program.
WindowEyes will just lock up and you have to use narrator or another screen
reader to close, even to be aware of, that dialog.
I have seen WindowEyes lock up like this in other programs as well although
not as often and it is likely that if a program has a problem WindowEyes
will lock up instead of continuing to work unlike other screen readers.
Someone had had a problem like this with some game and found it was that
WindowEyes had some kind of threading problem where it locks up if a program
locks up and he had to set some priority for either the game or WindowEyes
to get around this if I remember.
I don't know how to set the WindowEyes threading priority nor the Internet
threading priority to test this whether this might at least get the dialog
to read - any ideas?

I actually never thought Window-eyes was causing the browser crashing
problem in IE. I just know Window-eyes does not announce the crash
and NVDA lets me know what is happening by announcing the crash once
I invoke NVDA.
By the way, using more than one screen reader to accomplish various
tasks is something folks have been doing for twenty years. So having
two screen readers on your system just makes good sense to me.

I've been trying to find out if Mcaffee is causing issues, but AI Squared
apparently doesn't know either. I have the paid version of AVG on my windows

focus on webpages. I got a 1 year subscription of Mcaffee when I bought this
machine from Del, and until I have some cold hard fact that Mcaffee is
causing the issues I don't want to go and pay for another PC to be on AVG. I
see that there are several other people having the same and simular issues
and not using Mcaffee

When window eyes locks up, it only restarts in certain instances. If it
locks up when I'm doing a save target as, I can do a control alt w and hear
the ascending music that tells me window eyes has started, but I never hear
the voice. Most of the time, when I restart window eyes, it starts up find,

Hi Rick:
When I press control-alt-w, Window-eyes restarts and then I can read
that edialog.
Sometimes, Window-eyes does not start right away, but within 2 or
three seconds, I hear the asending tone and Windo-eyes starts again.
Then Ican alt-tab back to the dialog window and I can usually read it.

This happens very often.
Sometimes I fire up narrator and hear the program is not responding and

If anyone else is experiencing these types of problems have you determined
if this is unique to WindowEyes or if it happens often with other screen
readers.
I noticed on e*trade windoweyes would not expand a item labeled Tax
Documents but JAWS did eexpand it so I could access the list of links to
get
to my tax documents and it made me wonder if this new html5 stuff and how
the browsers handle it is causing WindowEyes problems and perhaps causing
it
to try and navigate around looking for something it cant find and thus
causing delays and, in some cases, crashes when things get locked up.
I can run some tests using JAWS, havent done that yet, but don't have nor
understand how to use nvda correctly so thought I would ask if anyone else
has noticed these types of problems in WindowEyes and worked around them
with other screen readers to determine if it is unique to mysituation or
if

this is a problem worth looking at trying to narrow down via testing and
getting some more specifics for the WE Staff if they are interested in our
test results.

Re: Is WindowEyes Causing All Internet And Other Crashes?

2016-02-17 Thread Kevin Huber via Talk

It's interesting that iCloud may be a culprit. However, if you do that, how
can you work with ITunes, Amazon, etc.? Or, do each of their apps work

I have removed iCloud as well, within the past twenty (20) minutes. When I
rebooted my system it was faster and with much less hard drive action just
after boot. I am using Outlook 2013 and it responds better at this time. I
was having multiple problems with email and IE prior to this change. I am
running a Dell XPS-9100 with 6-mg ram, 1-tb hd and WE 9.3.

I keep thinking if I had more memeory, that just maybe WE 9 would work a
bit better. Any here with 16 GB of RAM having problems with WE locking
up, or Speech going away?

yes, John. It's also a good idea to open IE, Alt-T Tools, manage

Window-eyes 8.4 behaves the same way here. If Internet Explorer and
Window-eyes stops speaking, I can start NVDA and it will say Internet

Window-eyes usually starts speaking again.
But no announcements warn me of this behavior in Window-eyes itself.

I hate to chime in here, but I often get the message that Internet Explorer
is not responding. I also get a message that a problem with the web page
caused Internet Explorer to close and re-open the page. If it does that, I
consider myself lucky and can conti9nue working with the page. Sometimes, I
hear a chime. Sometimes, Window-Eyes speaks the messages and other times
not. Sometimes, Control+a_w works and sometimes not. Sometimes, starting
Window-eyes from the run dialog works and sometimes not.

In very few cases, am I able to start Narrator or NVDA.

Hi:
I get allot of situations, especially in Internet Explorer, where WindowEyes
will stop speaking either for several seconds or entirely.
This happens very often.
Sometimes I fire up narrator and hear the program is not responding and
click the close button and windoweyes will come back.
If anyone else is experiencing these types of problems have you determined
if this is unique to WindowEyes or if it happens often with other screen
readers.
I noticed on e*trade windoweyes would not expand a item labeled Tax
Documents but JAWS did eexpand it so I could access the list of links to get
to my tax documents and it made me wonder if this new html5 stuff and how
the browsers handle it is causing WindowEyes problems and perhaps causing it
to try and navigate around looking for something it cant find and thus
causing delays and, in some cases, crashes when things get locked up.
I can run some tests using JAWS, havent done that yet, but don't have nor
understand how to use nvda correctly so thought I would ask if anyone else
has noticed these types of problems in WindowEyes and worked around them
with other screen readers to determine if it is unique to mysituation or if
this is a problem worth looking at trying to narrow down via testing and
getting some more specifics for the WE Staff if they are interested in our
test results.

Instead of trying ctrl-alt-W inside Internet Explorer, I first do Windows-M
to go to the desktop, and then ctrl-alt-W. I think this can enable you to
see the crash dialog.
I think that Firefox, especially with Flash removed, is more usable on some

Re: Is WindowEyes Causing All Internet And Other Crashes?

2016-02-17 Thread Lloyd Rasmussen via Talk
Instead of trying ctrl-alt-W inside Internet Explorer, I first do Windows-M
to go to the desktop, and then ctrl-alt-W. I think this can enable you to
see the crash dialog.
I think that Firefox, especially with Flash removed, is more usable on some
of these pages.

Window-eyes 8.4 behaves the same way here. If Internet Explorer and
Window-eyes stops speaking, I can start NVDA and it will say Internet
Explorer has stopped responding." I then close Internet Explorer and
Window-eyes usually starts speaking again.
But no announcements warn me of this behavior in Window-eyes itself.
Window-eyes stays silent about Internet Explorer stopping. NVDA does
not. It instead lets me know what is going on.

Someone had had a problem like this with some game and found it was that
WindowEyes had some kind of threading problem where it locks up if a
program

locks up and he had to set some priority for either the game or WindowEyes
to get around this if I remember.
I don't know how to set the WindowEyes threading priority nor the Internet
threading priority to test this whether this might at least get the dialog
to read - any ideas?

Yes, same here. How is it possible that a free SR can out perform a paid
one? Maybe the voice sucks but I now have 2 SR's installed on my pc for the
first time in years.

I've also had the problem. I didn't know there was a dialog coming up
telling me that IE wasn't responding. WE used to read this but for what ever
reason does not any more. It wasn't until my sighted GF told me it was there
that I knew Ie was not responding.

Subject: Is WindowEyes Causing All Internet And Other Crashes?
