Granted!

Sypheed for windows32 still in alpha state take a lot of resources,
sylpheed cygwin run much better but some features still not working well

Sylpheed will be challenger of TB! in the future (fast development, rich

IMHO Mail Ticker and Template in TB! are the two beeing discuss as a

Okay, let's see what others thinking first :-)

How about your concern of Double Byte Character set support ?

I myself not read/compose CJK character set but my sister did, when I
receive such message I forward to her for translation , and the bad
things I can not use TB! for this, it breaks somethings so my sister can
not read it well on her mailer.

Sylpheed has nice features for this, it can convert 2-byte to 1-byte
characterset or leave as is using "cell characterset " (I don't know the
equvalence of this type of characterset in Windows, it is not monospace
an sich but work just like monospace, means using this the automatic
wordwrap in my mailer work just like using monospace character set).

Yeah everyone having their main concern :-)

For me, Becky! makes me not productive every morning, because the POP
retrieval message not multi threaded nor pipelining. Everymorning when arrive
in office I get at least 1000 messages, while downloading Becky! will wait
till all messages finish to download before starting filter process then new
messages comes up in folder, hence I can not start to response any new
message.

While at home, I check mail every 3-days sometimes 6-days, this more worst
because I must start download Friday night and can using it Saturday morning.
I have compare the speed of download while using TB! 1.53d (dial up connection
33 Kbps, around 7500 messages, 15 MB size), Becky lag around 50 messages per
half hours compare to TB!, no wonder I feel not productive using Becky! at
home :-(

If you want to know what correct HELO/EHLO commands, you can see RFC-2821
sections 4.1.1.1, in short there are 2 type HELO/EHLO command accepted by
MTA while asking Identity of sender :
1. Valid (as registered on DNS Server) FQDN host name
2. Address Literal [ ip address ]

According me TB! already use correct way in this regard, i.e. if user smart
enough to setting correct tcp/ip setting, TB! issue HELO FQDN_host, while he
is idiot or novice user, TB! issue HELO ip-address. Both are accepted per
RFC2821 (see also my previous mail about testing by my technicians at
office).

Next 1 hours after we discuss in Sylpheed-claws list, new patch coming

I think so because only on this mode TB! will use UIDL approach.

The downside is if later you change to normal mode (delete
messages after download), you will get duplicate :-(

TF> Maybe someone else, who supports Silviu's suggestion as well, can
TF> help out here.

Till now, I really like the way MDaemon DomainPOP Engine to handle
this stuff :
- at first, MDaemon will issue UIDL (instead of STAT as TB! did on
normal mode), to get all message-id already on POPmailbox, then keep
this on temporary file for the record.
- After that, MDaemon will download as normal.
- If at any reason the internet connection failed, next connection
MDaemon issue UIDL command again, but before downloading MDaemon
  will check/compare to previous record.
If the record match, MDaemon will not redownload the messages,
instead he re-issue DELE command for those messages.

Note: STAT is old fashioned POP protocol command, nowadays I never
find any POPServer not support UIDL command.

Kapersky AV seems having more sensible engine, even I set attachment

But I am activate MAPS-ORDB and MAPS-ORBL and Osiris-List_check, if

>>> that's what I've always done. Why would it be wrong for TB! to do

As Alexander Leschinsky said, connect to POPServer using more than one
using same username is against RFC (see RFC-1939, section 4,
Authorization State).

There is only one *TCP/IP* connection for port 110 from one ip
address, and after Authorization State, it must be lock). Telnet is
*not* TCP Protocol, so you can have more than one connection from
single ip.

I think, you agree with this :-)

>> I have an account on a server where the POP3d reacts badly to such an

This is what suppose to happen, due the client still in Authorization
State.

After Authorization State, Client will go to Transaction State.
You're right, there is no statement on RFC-1939 section 5 mentioned
about the command must sending on sequence and must wait POP3
response.

I didn't see POP3 server who support PipeLining (interest to developt
?), on most case POP3 server will store the client command on the
buffer (something like Latency Buffer) to force subsequence command
(which not response yet) to delay for a while. This mechanism to
prevent Buffer Overrun problem.

If client needs it, he can use LIST command (if still in same

time being the msd/data store on Temp folder (hmmm..is this may cause
many Bat???.tmp on Temp Directory ?)

Because TB! seems not maintain "last successful download message"
data, the behavior above is useless. TB! still redownload all
messages and makes msg duplication.
I never seen something like :
SKIP n (n=msg number n)
or
LIST n
DELE n
(skip command RETR n)
or
Suppress 3 messages duplicate ...
(as I seen on Pegasus or Mercury POP module).

Qmail actually is SMTP, we're talking about POPserver, try QPOP, Cubic

No need actually. As my sample logs, in fact POPServer *knows* the

I am running 4 different MTA right now, and leave message on server

Me too :-)
Let me explain my own :
- I am running The Bat! on Multi O/S Platform (I run more than one PC
in front of me on daily work, and each running Multi O/S, and
sometimes work on "server" or other workstation on LAN). That's why
I put all of folder on Network Drive, especially The Address Book.
- For all those account, I share address book, set as Default Address
  Book.

This condition simulate more than one The Bat! users running his own
(single) TB! on his own PC on the LAN (not real TB! in Networking Mode
as Nick describe).

The problem are :
- If for certain account I made change, such adding contact or delete
contact, other account (on other PC) must exit from The Bat! first
before he can look the changes.
- I have to set sharing drive as "full read/write" to make this
happen, "read only" user can not use this share address book.

So, my suggestions :
- TB! periodically check the address book.
- Have ability for TB! user to "read only" some address book.

Nowadays, I saw this kind of feature has built on POPServer (can be

better than UIDL method.

Perhaps not really crash, only freeze. I noticed when there is some

List Administrator Note

2001-01-31 Thread Syafril Hermansyah

Hello All,

This message to clarify some confusing after the ListServer activate
Reverse Lookup Anti Spamming.

Currently I have activated "domain name checking" lookup only, either
the sender/poster or HOST sender (as claim on HELO/EHLO command), if
failed the ListServer will reject (terminate the connection at once).

Even I activate Reverse Lookup and MAPS-RBL/ORBS (open relay) checking,
but if this checking will *not* reject the message, only make a
note/flag.

If ListServer failed to Reverse Lookup sender ip address, you will see
(additional) header as follow :
X-Lookup-Warning: reverse lookup on original sender failed

And, if ListServer find that your MailServer listed on MAPS-RBL/ORBS,
you will see something like this :
X-RBL-Warning: mail from xx.xx.xx.xx refused by ORBS, see http://www.orbs.org

I've made simple link : <http://faq.thebat.dutaint.com> which forward to

Yes, I hope :-)
For now I just success for SHTML messages, i.e if in The Bat! we saw
either plain text and HTML format (as attachment). If all plain text
"blank", I can't do that (because the filter stripe out the attachment).

You can try this as follow
Condition string : if message header content (any)
multipart/alternative
multipart/mixed
text/html

on the RFC-822 header, then stripe out the attachment.

Are you using WinGate ? IIRC someone on "Mdaemon open forum" mentioned
to connect via WinGate Proxy, this will solve "tcp/ip buffer problem"
(he also run Mdaemon on Win98, but use Pegasus for client).

That's because his mailer using thread by subject (the easy one), if he

As my experience in the past, before I move The Bat! from one Computer
to another, at first I change setting of file attachment from "separate"
to "message bodies", then after exit, start and exit again I'm ready to
go to 1.42 beta.

Try it, perhaps some of your attachment making problem in conversion.

KR> Could this be a virtual memory problem?

It might be, in NT we can check this more details, dunno on Win9x.

Yes, now I'm trying Alexander trick as follow :

Create the association (via Windows explorer) with the following
properties:

Description: message enriched

Type (MIME): text/enriched

Standard extension: .enriched

Action: open by netscape.exe (no commandline qualifiers!)
Application to use to perform action : point to netscape.exe

Confirm opening: unchecked

Allow quickview: unchecked

Always show extension: checked.

It work !
