How true. And if you complain you hit the wrong: 9Val - he seems at the moment the only one which lives and helps this list. Sad but true. What I'd like is a list on which each bug found gets its thread, which ends in the devs saying okay, seems to be fixed, try it now, the testers replying okay, seems to be fine, wham, thread closed. Agree here totaly. I hate it, when the bug was fixed and beta testers still confirm the bug, not knowing that it was fixed. Thats waste of time. Re: Bug: Order of actions in NFS
Hello Allie, Wednesday, August 18, 2004, 21:39 you wrote at mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] So I think the best solution is, that TheBat! do its action like they are listed in NFS: flag message copy message park message means, that the copies are flagged, but not parked. I disagree. All three should be done since the message is still available for all three actions to be carried out. I'd certainly want all three to be done if I set them up to be done as such. Well, all three are carried out to the original message. The original message is flagged, and parked. But the copie isn't parked, because at the moment, the coppy was created, the orginal message wasn't parked. If this will be realized, it would be good, if TheBat! check (before saving the filter) if there are actions after delete message and move message and remind the user that these action will never be done: delete message run external program play sound Are you saying the latter two actions shouldn't be carried out? I disagree again. Yes, with the my first suggestion, maybe the second is better: Another solution would be, that TheBat! move these action at the end of the list. So TheBat! would sort: run external program play sound delete message mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] These bugs are simply bugs that need to be fixed. And how? They aren't symptoms of filter actions needing to be nullified or preventing from occurring because of a prior action. I disagree! The filter is: delete message read message If you run that filter, the message disappear (deleted) and appear again, because its marked as read. There are two possibilitys (which i can imagine) to solve this: Sort read message delete message and do it in that sequence or ignore the filter options after move or delete message (with a warning, so the user know what has happend) Crippling filter action sequences is a bad way of fixing the problem. The problems are made by design - so correct the design, the problems will disappear. The NFS works the same as MDaemon's filtering system. The actions are carried out as they're described in the filter rule. The rule itself, makes it seem to the user that the actions will be carried out in the sequence described. Then the first sentence is wrong: NFS don't go in the sequence but random - in NFS it doesn't matter if you select delete message copy message or copy message delete message Or miss I something? -- Regards, Boris Anders, http://www.batboard.de Current beta is 2.13 'Lucky' Beta/6 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html IMPORTANT: To register as a Beta tester, use this link first - http://www.ritlabs.com/en/partners/testers/

Yet another feature-request list (for NFS)
Hello all, I think it would be a good idea, to collect the feature request in this thread. I want to start with 11 FR, have you any supplements or criticism? 01. Common Filter Wish you could say for each common filter, whether it has higher or lower priority then account filters. 02. Remember Focus TheBat! should remember for account, which filter was selected. So if you select Common Filters the focus should jump e.g. to the third read messages. 03. New Condition: Address Book Contact Should check, whether From-Address is one of them, which are in the Adress Book Contact of (e.g) 9Val. Sense: If 9Val change his E-Mail adresse, I must only change the address in the address book (and not in the three filters in NFS and in his VF) (I think I suggested this alread :-) 04. Re-filter messages The order of rule set to apply should be the same as in NFS and contain the possibility to filter with common filter: [ ] Common Filters [ ] Outgoing mail [ ] Read messages [ ] Replied messages 05. Action: Delete There should be following options: [ ] delete parked message also [ ] move in trash [ ] Compress folder after deleting 06. Action: Move There should be added the option: [ ] move parked message also [ ] unpark message 07. If you press a letter e.g. a then the focus should jump throw the filters, which starts with a. Worked in the OFS just fine - miss it in NFS, yet. 08. Selectiver Download I'm missing them ... 09. There should be a hotkey, which opens the context menu of the condition. With space you can jump throw the options but I think, it can't be too hard, to set the arrow-down to open the context menu. 10. Condition Address group should have a select box (like source folder has already). 11. Action Run External program With %1, TheBat! gives the message to the external program, but why not according to a template? Default, %1 should give the message in RFC-822 format, no question, but if I want, I should have the possibility, to give the message in my template format. Guess this can be easily realized (and %From,%ToList is not needed any more). Wouldn't that be much easier for everyone to follow and understand? Why should I be forced to flag a message before moving, when it can as well be done after that? There's no confusion here. I agree with this! I also see nothing bad in a filter that has two move actions -- the message would be moved twice and end up in a B folder. I agree with this! Re: NFS: Big question for 9Val
Hello MAU, Saturday, September 4, 2004, 14:30 you wrote at mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Since there can be a lot of copy actions, for which order is important. I think you may be wrong here. If you consider _only_ the copy actions (i.e. I want to copy a message to folders A, B and C), what different does it make in which order they are copied? No one - and so it should be copied in the order. Because: The order _does_make_ a difference if there are some other actions (like flagging a message, for example) in between a copy and the next. Thats why 9Val wrote there can be a lot of copy action, for which order is important. only the message in B should appear as flagged, not in A. Will you agree to that? Of course. This is why I would say that *only_one_move_action* should be allowed in a filter. Why this limitation? It might be ther exist a reason to have several move actions. I could expand a bit considering if perhaps other actions should also be greyed out on the list when the move one is, but I will not do so now. Delete message and delete message from server maybe - but again: Why this limitation? That is, the move should _delete_ the message from the source folder (i.e. make it unavailable for further actions on the message) Yes, it should be delete from source folder but NOT make it unavailable for further actions. This would be a senseless limitation! As you self wrote: There are actions that can be perfectly be executed after the move is done, like for example playing a sound or sending some kind of auto-reply, etc. What if the user adds an impossible action after the move one and leaves it there? There is no impossible action, because all actions are allowed because the message could be tracked without any problem! -- Regards, Boris Anders, http://www.batboard.de Current beta is (none) | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html IMPORTANT: To register as a Beta tester, use this link first - http://www.ritlabs.com/en/partners/testers/

I think I have covered most of what I would reply to your comments in my (lengthy?) replies to 9Val. Let me know if not. Sorry, but you don't. Copy it and unpark it TheBat! accutally seems to do the 4. possibility - but I think it would be good if user could define how it should work (mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] wish 06) Nevertheless: TheBat! Copy it and leave it parked so we would expect: Park the message, and then _copy_ it to folder a and at last flag it. Re: Yet another feature-request list (for NFS)
Hello Boris, Thursday, August 26, 2004, 11:10 you wrote at mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Updated list - supplements or criticism sill welcome. Did I miss some feature request? Change: 19 is added 02 is fulfilled 10 is fulfilled 01. Common Filter Wish you could say for each common filter, whether it has higher or lower priority then account filters. Action: Move There should be added the option: [ ] move parked message also [ ] unpark message 11. 12. New Condition: Spam score is higher than value is lower than see mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] 13. Buttons Move In/Move Out buttons for filters. 15. Move-up and Move-Down for conditions A option for conditions, just like there is for actions. see mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] 17. Ask before delete Sub-Filters If you delete a filter with Sub-Filters, I'd like to have the following asking box filter name has got sub-filters. Do you want to delete it? [Yes] [Yes, but keep Sub-filters] [No] If you select Yes, but keep Sub-filters the sub-filters shouldn't be deleted but, moved out, while the original filter is deleted. 18. Cancel button The changes from opening NFS until now are NOT saved and NFS is closed. Very useful I think ... mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] 19. Suggestion of Thomas F. : The suggestion is to make only one kind of filters, with checkboxes whether this is an [X] Incoming [X] Outgoing [ ] Read [ ] Replied Fulfilled: 07. If you press a letter e.g. a then the focus should jump throw the filters, which starts with a. Worked in the OFS just fine - miss it in NFS, yet. 09. There should be a hotkey, which opens the context menu of the condition. With space you can jump throw the options but I think, it can't be too hard, to set the arrow-down to open the context menu. Alt + arrow down does it. 14. Buttons Move Up/Move Down 08. Selectiver Download I'm missing them ... 16. Highlighting accounts using OFS (or NFS) see mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] 02. Remember Focus TheBat! should remember for each account, which filter was selected and whether the filter folders (Incoming messages, Sent messages, Read messages and Replied messages) where opend or closed. So if you select Common Filters the focus should jump e.g. to the third read messages. 10. Condition Address group should have a select box (like source folder has already). -- Regards, Boris Anders, http://www.batboard.de Current beta is 3.00.18 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html IMPORTANT: To register as a Beta tester, use this link first - http://www.ritlabs.com/en/partners/testers/

Re: NFS: erratic behaviour with subfilters
Hello Maurice, Maurice Snellen wrote (in mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]): Is there a but here or have I constructed my filters wrongly? Can't see a logical error. Actually, in total there are really a whole lot of filters there, and it proved that I did make an error in the logic. So there is/was no bug in NFS? 1) Filters should 'collect' all actions-to-be-taken and perform only the last move on multiple moves. Don't know, but I think 9Val would have a lot of work to fulfill this wish, because I think this is a design problem/wish. Further more the advantages seem to be small - means only someone one with a simalar filtering and a lot of message would profit from it. And at last, if your second wish would be fulfilled you could avoid the duplicate in changing filter system. So I can see the sense of this wish, but wouldn't support it. 2) It should be possible to create a purely organizational container level (sub)filter where processing of filters further down the list occurs automatically if none of the subfilters yielded an action. Yes, this is a nice wish. I have the same problem like you. A filter as container filter (with all messages condition) can make problems. So a container filter would be nice. But I think there are workarounds - I use the first one and in this moment I think there is a second one. Imagine: Filter A - container filter Filter A1 - condition: From Maurice Filter A2 - condition: From Boris Filter B Filter B1 Filter B2 First, I set the condition of A to all message - but this brought troubles, because then Filter B will never touched. Also the solution continue filtering isn't that good, because then changes from A, A1 and A2 could undo by B, B1 or B2. The first solution is: Set the condition of A not to all messages but Conditions A1 or Conditions A2. In this example, condition of filter a should be From Maurice OR From Boris. The disadvantage of this solution: For every change/addition in a Subfilter condition must be done in container filter too. But: It works, at least for me. :-). The second solution (which is not yet tested) is, to introduce a control filter: Filter A - container filter Filter A1 Filter A2 Filter A3 - control filter Filter B Filter B1 Filter B2 In this case, in Filter A [X] continue filtering must be checked. Filter A3 has condition All messages and action set user param. Filter B has condition user param is. E.g. A message receive, and is catched by Filter A (because all messages). If A1 or A2 matched, A3 doesn't and the param is emtpy - as a result of this Filter B doesn't match and therefor not undo actions of A, A1 or A2. But if A1 and A2 doesn't match, A3 matches and set the param (e.g.) Continue to 1. And because param Continue is 1 Filter B matches. I don't know if there is a logical error in my idea, but I try this immediately after send this message. The advantage would be clear: You don't have to modify container filter if subfilter changes but only create once one more subfilter. Of course, if we had a container filter, it would be best and easiest :-). -- Regards, Boris Anders, http://www.batboard.de Current beta is 3.0.2.7 Rush | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html IMPORTANT: To register as a Beta tester, use this link first - http://www.ritlabs.com/en/partners/testers/

Hello MAU, Mau wrote (in mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]): 2) It should be possible to create a purely organizational container level (sub)filter where processing of filters further down the list occurs automatically if none of the subfilters yielded an action. If I have understood correctly what you want to do I would also oppose to this wish because I think there are ways of doing what you want. Yes, there are ways of doing so - but how comfortable and difficult are they? In generals there seems two ways of doing this: With params (color groups, ...) or with spezial condition in container filter. Second solution is not good, because you have make changes twice (in subfilter and container filter) and first solution is better but difficult (I think that not everybody realize that container filter could be done with this solution). So this wish wouldn't reduce the possibilities of NFS, but make them more comfortable. In fact of this, I would say implement it if it's less work, implement it later if its much work. Maybe one word about implementation: I think it could be done in two different ways: 1) A option in sub-filter: [X] Stop continue processing with other filter 2) Make it possible, to add container filter which has the condition (by design) one of the subfilter-condition matches. This condition maybe shown in conditions (Subfilter(s) matches) - and must be auto-updated. I don't know what is easier to implement, but 1) seems to be more powerfull? Boris has already pointed the use of parameters I might ask you if you had the same idea independent of me? there is some bug in the use of parameters. I don't know, I have not tested. :-( - it wouldn't take much time: Import my posted filter, check if it's correct (did I make a mistake?), select a message and test filter. A short notice (maybe in bugtracker) would be nice. What I would do is: Filter A (set to continue processing) Sub-Filter A1 (whatever action + set parameter P) Sub-Filter A2 (whatever action + set parameter P) Filter B (whatever condition + parameter P NOT set) Sub-Filter B1 Sub-Filter B2 Hm, interessting. In this way you save one filter (A3), right? But on the other side, you have to add one action per subfilter. Did I miss something? I there is a bug in the use of parameters, then a I would use a colour group instead. I have not tested but it should work. Wow, good idea. Re: NFS: erratic behaviour with subfilters
Hello Maurice, Maurice Snellen wrote (in mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]): 2) It should be possible to create a purely organizational container level (sub)filter where processing of filters further down the list occurs automatically if none of the subfilters yielded an action. If I have understood correctly what you want to do I would also oppose to this wish because I think there are ways of doing what you want. They way that things are now that processing of a filter depends _only_ on the previous filters triggering or not and on the continue processing status of previous filters is the correct way of doing things. Making the processing of a filter depend on the triggering or not of filters in a lower hierarchy would break the whole purpose of the hierarchy structure. While I don't support Boris' suggestion to solve this problem with yet another checkbox (I agree with you that this would needlessly complicate things), It might be more complicate than a container only filter - but also more powerfull. As a result, there is no set of criteria (short of adding all subfilter-criteria to the parent) that allows me to group them. Well, you can add all subfilter-criteria to the parent. A solution based on parameters and/or colorgroups feels to me like dragging something in there that doesn't belong. So what? It's a workable solution, I can't see the problem. And according to (mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]) parameters does belong to the topic :-). Having to do something to the messages (colour group) or using a parameter that gets checked in a completely unrelated filter(tree) sounds like making things more complex than they should be. I agree with you, that it /could/ be easier ... Moreover: the only reason why a colourgroup or parameter is necessary is to avoid an unwanted situation that would not have existed if we had 'container-only' parent filters. I strongly disagree here. I think colorgroups hasn't to do anything with making it possible to create a container filter. I hope that parameters can be used one day in templates and might give a few people a greate improvement. And at least, the unwanted situation is, that sub-filter is used for container filter, but they aren't coded to fulfill that function. Params give you the possiblity, to use sub-filter for container filter - which is not a bad thing at all. The fact that the only way to get filters further in the list processed if an earlier filter has an 'all messages' criterium is to set 'continue processing' on it which then introduces the problem that messages already handled by earlier subfilters might get re-handled by later filters. Solving this by using additional actions to every subfilter of the earlier 'all messages' filter as well as having to complicate the later parents in my opinion needlessly complicates matters, requires additional work for each new filter and is also error-prone because if you forget to add the additional actions to a newly created filter, thing might get broken again and you'll be bughunting in your own filters. The problem wouldn't exist, if you won't abuse sub-filter to container filter - or if you do so - why not set (logical) correct conditions (and not a simply catch all). -- Regards, Boris Anders, http://www.batboard.de Current beta is 3.0.2.7 Rush | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html IMPORTANT: To register as a Beta tester, use this link first - http://www.ritlabs.com/en/partners/testers/

True. But A and B are catch-all filters. Let's assume A' and B' are the action performed by these filters (for example moving the message to a default folder). The logic is this: 1.) continue processing disabled A(True) + B (True) = A' (Since A matched, B is not processed. It could also be false) All messages are matched with the catch-all. 2.) continue processing enabled A(True) + B(True) = B' Here it doesn't matter whether A is matched, as the B will always be processed and it will always match. What you are looking for with these container filters are not filters at all, I would think. You need a group name functionality. Yes, container filters aren't filters, but dummy filter. They should be there, to keep order, but don't work as filter. The second solution (which is not yet tested) is, to introduce a control filter: I would consider this far too complicated to be acceptable. Maybe you feel it as a (too complicated) workaround - but since container filters or group name functionality isn't implemented it's the only way to do so, right? -- Regards, Boris Anders, http://www.batboard.de Current beta is 3.0.2.10 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html IMPORTANT: To register as a Beta tester, use this link first - http://www.ritlabs.com/en/partners/testers/

Re: 3.0.9.4: What's the difference between 'None' and 'Generic' colour groups?
Hello MAU, Mau wrote (in mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]): I have noticed that both in message list pane context menu and in Messages/Colour Group menu there are now entries for 'None' and for 'Generic Group' while this last one wasn't available (displayed) in previous versions. Confirmed. I had looked to View Modes (where both, none and generic have ever exists), but not to color group.
