Problem with TB and Chrome
Installed TB on a new computer and am now having a problem using it with Chrome as a browser. With Chrome as my default browser, clicking on a link in an email on TB opens to a blank page unless Chrome is already open in the background. If Chrome is already open there is no problem. If I use Firefox as my default browser, email links work perfectly whether Firefox is open or not. (I haven't tried it with IE.) This sounds like it might be a Chrome problem and not TB, but I can't find any references to this particular kind of blank page problem in a Google search. I had been running TB version 4.22.44.2 on my old computer and that's what I installed on my new machine, restoring all my old settings from a TB backup. The problem wasn't there on the old PC (also running Win 7). I upgraded The Bat! to ver. 5.4, thinking that might cure things, but it didn't. Any ideas on what to look for? I suppose I could just go back to using Firefox, but that's kind of a cop-out -- and I really prefer Chrome these days. -- Running The Bat! version 5.4 under Win 7 Current version is 5.2.2 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Connection Centre Problem
After installing TB on a new PC, I've having problems sending and receiving mail. I did a backup and restore from my old PC so all the accounts and settings were transferred over, but I get the following error message when I click F2 for a combined delivery: FETCH - Connection to host broken (last commands sent were: PASS, STAT) If I simply click on the tool bar to receive mail, the Connection Centre says status is connecting to host, but then times out with a FETCH - Connect failed message. As far as I can tell, everything is set up properly with an identical setup on both machines. Both PCs are running Win 7, are connected through the same router, and have no problem accessing the internet. TB still runs just fine on the old machine. Besides doing the complete backup and restore, I've also tried doing a fresh installation of TB and then restoring everything except the old Account Properties, but still get the same results. Outbox Problems
My wife is running ver 4.2.44.2 of TB, and yesterday her outbox froze up on one account. No messages get sent out, although incoming messages are received just fine. Outgoing messages just sit there. The Connection Center times itself out. The account log shows this as its final line: !3/30/2013, 16:35:01: FETCH - Connection to host broken (last commands sent were: USER deeoliverio, PASS) On a second account (only two are set up), outgoing messages just keep going out repeatedly--one message will be sent out again and again until we manage to delete it from the outbox (no mean feat). Rebooting doesn't change anything--when TB loads, it just starts sending the same message out again. Here the account log looks normal, just repeating that it sent the message. I seem to recall something like the frozen outbox happening before and discovered that the outbox messages had somehow all been set to Park. When they were unparked, everything was fine. This is clearly something else. Periods in TB editor
This has annoyed me for some time and I'm only now getting around to asking about it because it's not really a big deal. When composing an email message, my preference is to put two spaces after a period (full stop) in the message, but the TB editor insists on only one space. Even when I go back and try to insert an additional space, the editor corrects (?) it to a single space. Is there a way to fix this? After I've composed a message, I can click on Auto-Format (which doesn't usually change anything in the text or format) and then go back and insert my requisite spaces, but this is kind of a PITA and also allows me to insert errors while I'm fooling around with my space issue. I know that the current convention is to use only a single space, but I learned my typing composition in ancient times when manual typewriters roamed the earth and this is how I learned to do it. And it's not just habit--I like the aesthetics of it. A single space after a comma is fine, but the flow of reading and appearance would really appreciate a double space after a period. cl Any thoughts? Spam Filtering
A few days ago someone had a question about spam filtering problems but it drifted off into a conversation about untrimmed replies, so I thought I'd raise it again. BayesIT had been working pretty well for me up until upgrading to the current TB version with the built-in plug-in. I finally set my score greater than box to 5 out of 100 (!), and now things are looking up--it's catching maybe eighty percent of the spam with no false positives. But 5 seems an awfully low number to use, and I'm always checking for good mail showing up in my junk box. Am I doing something wrong or is this how it works? Problem Exporting AD
I keep two separate address books--one has two sub-ADs and the other has three. If I want to print out a hard copy of one of the sub-ADs, there's no problem; it's very straightforward. But if I want to copy a sub-AD to a file as plain text, I run into a problem. There's no "print to file" option in the print menus, so I used the export function in the file drop-down menu. The problem is that I can't limit the export to a single sub-address book. The new file that's created includes all other sub-ADs plus the main AD. (With duplicates thankfully omitted.) The new file begins listing the addresses alphabetically, but misses some of them. Then, about two-thirds of the way through it begins picking up the missed addresses and lists them in what appears to be a random order. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to this, so it wouldn't be easy to just edit out the unneeded addresses. I don't need to do this often, and a simple solution would be plug the sub-AD into its own main AD to create the file, but this issue was giving me fits today. Am I missing something obvious? This works just fine when I call up the addresses from the main screen. But if I first click on the icon to start a new message, and *then* call up the address book, it displays them sorted by first name. Is there some way to get the address books to *always* sort by last name? --Thanks, Gene -- -- View the TBUDL archive at http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com To send a message to the list moderation team double click here: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe from TBUDL, double click here and send the message: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] -- You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org
Newbie with Address Book Problem
Is this a bug, a "feature" or am I doing something wrong? I have my address books set up to sort by last name.
Please Help a Newbie
I'm finally getting out of Outlook Express (thank the gods!) and into The Bat!, but I'm having a problem importing my old folders. The Import Wizard did a partial job but doesn't recognize many of the old folders (in two different accounts, I might add). How can I do this manually? A second question has to do with selective quoting in replying to messages. I understand how to use the F4 key to quote a selected passage, but is there a simple way to quote _several_ selected and highlighted passages? I.e., can I read through a new message, highlighting passages as I go, and then use a simple keystroke to quote them all in the reply? (I used to have a proprietary off-line-reader for CompuServe--called OzWin--that had this feature, and I really miss it.) A final (for now) question has to do with TB documentation. Is there a place I can find a single, comprehensive description of the TB features--basically, a user manual? The program's help file basic, but limited. The TB archives are wonderful. But is there someplace that puts it all together? What would be the most efficient way for a Newbie to learn about the F4 quoting function? Or what other F keys or key combinations do? Thanks for your patience with all my foolishness. -- -- View the TBUDL archive at http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com To send a message to the list moderation team double click here: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe from TBUDL, double click here and send the message: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] -- You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org
