You have to press the "Save" Buttons on both the "Audio Output Device"
Settings and the "Change Squeezelite" Settings if you make changes and
sometimes need to press "Squeezelite Restart" on the pCp main page if it
remains stopped. However I didn't mean for you to change the device just
change all the Squeezelite Settings to blank, below the options I showed
and to just make "standard settings" on the first three lines. And
install DSD player plugin.

If it doesn't work after that I'm afraid I cannot help. Sorry it's not
working.

These are my settings for the IQAudio Dac+ which I think uses the same
chip:

No other fields filled in below.

I've been using these for ages without any problems and I have three
players in use and a couple more occasionally used.

But I do have DSD Player plugin installed on the LMS server.

I think I've fixed my unrecognised extended characters in LMS scan issue
but I'm not sure how.

I installed the util-linux-locales.tcz extension which I think also
installs util-linux.tcz and the scan started working properly.

However, when I removed the extensions and rebooted the pCp the scan
continued to find all the folders with extended character set labels and
files within the folders.

Maybe it will all revert to as it was before when some cache clears.

I became interested in classical music late in life and haven't seen
many soloist or small ensemble violinists.

The ones I can remember seeing Nicola Benedetti at the launch of her
Taverner album at the Royal Festival Hall, Vadim Repin (Bruch Violin
Concerto) at the Warwick University metal shed! and lately the female
soloist with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra at Symphony Hall
(but I forget her name and the work).

My tastes, ever eclectic, have moved on to Ellingtonia and the American
Songbook and were many and varied before I ever got to classical.

connect at all with that variable set. It would seem I have some
options:

1. - Establish whether this feature should be available and correct my
folder labels if it should not.
2 - If the feature should be available - convince another user to try
to replicate the issue - simply entitle a Music Folder "Dvoák" -
place a couple of mp3's in the folder and see if they are found by the
"look for the new and changed media files" option in the LMS GUI.
3 - Abandon pursuing this issue and revert to pCp 6.1.0

Issue: With identical versions of LMS, pCp 6.1.0 scans tracks within
folders whose titles contain extended characters eg "Dvoák" pCp
7.0.0 does not scan these tracks

I've done that and the only difference is "bsize=1048576" appears in the
new pCp 7.0.0 options (the one which doesn't register filenames with
extended characters).

Trying to investigate further but I'm a bit dopey after minor surgery

Presume you meant cifs vers=3.0 - I've been trying that on both my pCp's

Well I reverted my pi 4 pCp 7.0.0 system back to LMS 7.9.3 and it's
still missing Dvoák and other extended characters in the scan.

My pi 3B pCp 6.1.0 with LMS 7.9.3 (exactly the same Sun Aug 23 version)
picks up these characters on the same music storage drive.

Is the utf-8 in pCp 7.0.0 the same as the utf-8 in pCp 6.1.0 and would
this affect the scan anyway?

Just did an artist search on the term "Dvoák" on both systems and
the one the complete track list had 85 more tracks than the one with the
missing tracks accounting for almost all of them. So it looks like

I corrected the file names shown in the log and the files were
recognised on the next scan. There are still 119 music tracks missing,
the log shows no issues and I've no idea where they are. I suspect it's
one of those ascii/utf issues but I'm clutching at straws really.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer 7.0.0 - Public Beta

2020-11-13 Thread ian_heys

I have a scanning issue but I'm not sure if it's and LMS issue or a pCp
issue.

I have an existing pi 3B running pcp 6.1.0/LMS 7.9.3 and can scan the
Music files on my Synology NAS

321423214332144

I also have a Pi 4 running pCp 7.0.0/LMS 8.0.0 and scan the SAME music
files I see about 100 fewer tracks but the log indicates a few tracks
whose file names are not acceptable. It only shows a few but I expect
there could be more.

3214532146

I've checked and the tracks shown in the log are definitely available on
the pi 3B system and definitely not available on the pi 4 system.

This only became apparent when pCp 7.0.0 beta was released. Pretty sure
I had LMS 8.0.0 running on the pi4 on pCp 6.1.0 and it showed identical
track info on both systems.

Any ideas? Not a show stopper. I know what's happening and how to fix
it. Just interested as to why it's happened.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] IQ Audio Codec+ No Longer Streams Flac

2020-08-19 Thread ian_heys

Thanks, Ralphy, Phillipe and Paul. All working properly again now. The
additional WAV streaming has some advantages too.

Caused me to look closer at my streaming during the investigation and
noticed my tuner output levels were much higher than the codec card
needed.

Have adjusted alsamixer for the time being but might put some unbalanced
10dB attenuators in the tuner output eventually. (Decent ones are more
expensive than the codec card).

Think I forgot to reboot after updating extension yesterday. Now
streaming in WAV format.

Thanks all for the help. Will probably revert to FLAC when that starts
working again but just fine now and my home network is more than able to
carry this traffic.

I live close to a BBC radio transmitter (250kW) and have a good radio
tuner which can be tuned from an Android App. As I also have a home VPN
server I can theoretically receive my favourite FM channels in WAV
format worldwide. Not that I'm inclined to roam the world at the moment.

[SlimDevices: Unix] IQ Audio Codec+ No Longer Streams Flac

2020-08-16 Thread ian_heys

My IQaudio Codec+ has stopped streaming flac but continues to stream MP3
it's been like this for about a week and I haven't been able to find out
the cause. Flac streams appear to start but are silent and usually stop
after 16 seconds.

I think it might be related to an LMS nightly update but have tried all
types of file type combinations.

Is anyone else using this codec to stream - I think I might be alone.

I'm up to date on LMS 8.0.0 nightlies on my server and pCp 6.1.0 on my
player.

I'd already done that Paul. Here's a couple of snips from the setup

I have my Synology working with CIFS. The only difference I can see is
that I have ",vers=2.0" after "gid=50" Seem to remember it not working
before I entered that value.

I was thinking of changing the stream title, but I can have the playlist
title do more or less the same thing. I have a custom icon which I'm
going to integrate into the playlist item.

The stream is incredibly stable. I leave it running for hours and just
turn on the amp when I'm near. The Revo Radio gives a 100% audio out on
the Aux Out, in fact it's about 6dB too high which I correct with
alsamixer. It also seems to have a good audio pre-amp stage. The Aux Out
level isn't related to the radio volume, it runs even when the radio
output is zero which is a good thing and the radio has a remote app to
chose FM/DAB etc and the preset channels.

Not long ago flac streaming was very rare and required
custom-convert.conf settings now it just works in LMS.

Hi Paul. Everything working fine on the codec. Is there a way of
changing the meta data in the stream output. It's not possible to change
it in the LMS interface. Changes made using the editing tool for
playlists don't stick and I can't find anything in the pCp config that
looks like it would help.

I'd already set that Paul, but still unable to get the streaming going.
However, I decided to go with a clean 6.0.0 install rather than the
in-situ upgrade which I currently have. Unfortunately I'm down to only
two micro sd cards spare and I can't burn a 6.0.0 image that will
actually boot the pi so I think they both must be currupt. I'm left with
the orginal upgrade SD card until I can get a few more in. Will
investigate further when new cards arrive.

I've tried without squeezelite but no joy. I remember that when it
worked it both streamed and played at the same time.

When I reported upgrading to 6.0.0 I didn't actually test the streaming
part, so I haven't actually seen it work in 6.0.0 as I had some other
things on the go this week.

You did actually put the patch into the 6.0.0 release? I hate asking as
it seems impertinent.

Hi paul-

I had some time to test streaming on my IQ Audio Codec + today.

I can't seem to get it to stream at all. Seems exactly like it was
before you did the patch update last week.

Is yours OK?

I was unaware of this and hadn't noticed. I did notice that CPU temp had
risen by 5 degrees when playing a track on a non HDMI player though. Is
there any way that a reminder can be put in the update process to
prevent un-necessary power usage and temperature? I've re-set my players
accordingly but could catch others out.

I have four pCp's

2 x pi 4B Server/Players with IQ Audio DAC+
2 x pi 3B Players with IQ Audio DAC+

All four installed perfectly using in situ upgrade, took about 5 minutes
each.

Like to keep them all on the same version otherwise too much

Thanks chill, never thought of doing this in a text editor (inside

BBEdit seems to be only for MAC OS.

I'm a Windows user but it seems that Notepad ++ will perform in the same

That output device is there before I press save and there's nothing in
the box above except "Analog Input". As soon as I press save they
disappear.

The dtoverlay command doesn't do anything that I can see as the devices
are there before that is executed.

I haven't seen anything at all in streamer "Input Device" box before or
after saving the squeezelite setting, so I can't actually use it.

I'm thinking of abandoning trying to get this going and buying one of
the Hifiberry DAC/ADC boards that are already in PCP.

I'm very concerned about the amount of time you are spending on this.

Hi Paul

I've had a couple of go's at this, including burning a fresh image of
pCp.

I don't have a problem with the procedures and they seem to be working.
I checked the config.txt had taken by going through the edit config.txt
procedure a second time just to check the the overlay setting was there.

The device doesn't appear in the Audio Output Device Settings at any
stage, but the Codec Output Devices appear in the section below on first
boot.

If I press save they promptly disappear and nothing I do can bring them
back.

If I try to install the streamer no devices appear there at any stage.

Any hope of getting this integrated in pCp.

I note you have been busy releasing an update since I last posted.

I'm thinking of returning it as, despite some effort and contacting the
supplier, I haven't been able to find an OS that recognises and works
with it.

Very disappointing.

Is there any chance of supporting this device in pCp 6.

Just exploring streaming high quality analog audio say FM Tuner, CD
Player, Record Deck etc etc

The streaming seems to be an available feature on the Tweaks page - but
the support for this device isn't there.

Just experimenting.

I tried to use the passive version of that case for a 4B with a IQ Audio
DAC+ but the opening for the GPIO pins was far to small to accommodate
any flat GPIO cable. I ended up using a variant of this arrangement.
This is a 3B with a DIGI+ but, like yours, my 4B is in an inaccessible
case and not easy to photograph.

The 4B arrangement has the longer stand-offs both above and below and
the whole thing runs at about 54 degrees C, when doing a Samba transfer
or playing DSF files or whatever. Only a very few degrees hotter than
the 3B when in it's IQ Audio case.

28617

Incidentally while trying the Pimoroni case I found the heat pads a
little difficult to fit for someone of my years.

While doing this I took the opportunity to update my SSD's file system
to EXT4. Phenomenal scanning and transfer speeds.

Many thanks to all the developers and forum contributors who continue to
make this system so great.

Thanks for this Ronnie. I haven't bought a pi 4 yet I thought I would
leave it a month or so and then upgrade.

If IQAudio haven't come up with a case by then I may buy something like
the Pimoroni case with GPIO exposed and some sort of mechanical support
of the external DAC and SSD drive.

Incidentally I noticed your .DSF test tracks which play on the DAC+ as
you know.

I had a couple of the 2L Test tracks too including the Hoff Ensemble.
I've now got into SACD ripping through a second hand Sony Blu Ray
(£30.00) and some of the results are quite brilliant. The Analogue
Productions SACD's of Nat King Cole are excellent if not almighty
expensive and illusive.

Cheers

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] BETA: piCorePlayer6.0.0 - PI4 support

2019-11-06 Thread ian_heys

Has anyone used pCP 6.0.0 with an on board DAC. I was thinking in
particular about the heat issues.

I have a remote (from my router/NAS/Home PC) player/server using pCp
5.01 with an IQAudio DAC+ and a SSD music drive attached by USB 2.0.

This works really well including playing a growing number of .DSF files
which are starting to have a place in my collection.

Updating the SSD music drive via samba is woefully slow due to USB2.0,
the shared bus and in a small part due to the homeplug "500 MBpS"
network between the NAS/Router/Home PC and the Server Player.

I would like to upgrade the player/server to pCp 6.0.0 but a couple of
issues present themselves:

1. All cases seem to be for the Pi4 only.

2. Would I need a GPIO extender cable and some offset nuts and bolts to
attach the DAC to obviate any heat issues

Has anyone any experience?

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Jivelite for piCorePlayer

2019-05-27 Thread ian_heys

Ralphy I'm using the jivelite joggler skin on an HDMI display.

When operating the top left power button in the home menu (using a
mouse) the button colour remains absolutely unchanged and gives no
indication of whether the player is on or off.

Is this standard behaviour?

It would be great if jivelite showed an illuminated power button when
the player is on. As in the standard player GUI on port 9000.

I have no problems at all using jivelite apart from this and it's only a
cosmetic issue.

I really appreciate the time and effort you spend on this and other
elements of the LMS environment.

I've created a replacement VU meter animation frieze for the Kolossos VU
meter for my Stereo Console re-purposeing project but keep getting
"permission denied" when trying to upload it to piCore to replace the

in this way using enhanced permissions or do I need to ask Ralphy to
build another meter option with this frieze and all the other files
copied from the Kolossos meter files?

The main unit's away having the top "French Polished" (don't know how
that translates, particularly into French). It had suffered some usage
marks in it's 56 year history.

The top of the unit is made from two solid walnut panels each about 18mm
thick 1800mm long and 230mm wide. If you had to make it again in this
country you'd be looking at c 500.00 Euro just for the wood for the top
of the unit.

I'm busy staining some walnut veneered mdf panels to fill in the holes
where the record player and the old (MegaWatt) Tuner Amp used to go.

Another new skill I'm learning - but very satisfying.

It's meant to be a heirloom for the family, but they'll have to wait a
while.

I'm thinking of doing a YouTube video when it's finished but I always
forget to take pictures at each stage.

Thanks for the hint huxmut, I should be able to take it from there.

I found the image file: vu_analog_25seq_w.png at
/opt/jivelite/share/jive/applets/JogglerSkin/images/UNOFFICIAL/VUMeter

which is series collage view of the base image 350 x 400 px with the
meter needle at progressively higher values:

25885

I can't find the exact font but have a near equivalent and I will have
to reduce the wording to "RCA Stereo Console" to fit into the space with
appropriate px value.

The VU meter program must be quite clever to pick out the correct
portion of the image to display on each channel at the correct time.

It will take me a while but I think I can do it.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] questions for a most basic portable squeezebox using PiCorePlayer and Pi Zero W

2017-08-31 Thread ian_heys

I've been using the GGMM-E5 portable player in conjunction with
Phillipe's UPNP plugin. It works as a reasonable looking/sounding,
battery powered player (like a Bose speaker) any where in range of your
home wifi. I started thinking of trying to do what you are doing but
this device is much more elegant.

I now have a NowTV remote config for Flirc dongle which I find very
useful.

File attached. Needs renaming to NowTV.fcfg.

23499

It has full Navigation Keys, Volume Up, Volume Down, Play/Pause,
Home/NowPlaying, Power, Shuffle and Repeat keys.

If anyone's interested.

As posted below it only needs jivelite enabled lirc is not required.

I do have an unused Max2Play licence and my TV HDMI is CEC enabled. But
I don't have the time to experiment I'm afraid. I'll watch with interest
and see where this goes.

Thanks for that. It could be of interest then but comparison of features
against say a keyboard would need some investigation from my point of
view.

Thanks Martin, I don't think I'm a candidate for a CEC plugin at the
moment as I'm getting complete control from my PC keyboard.

One thought comes to mind:

If PiCore could recognise CEC signals would there need to be a
customised configuration file for each TV/Remote combination and would
this be easy to implement?

Cheers

More light dawning. No doubt you know this Jeff but if I plug in my
wireless keyboard dongle and use my wireless keyboard - Bingo - Full
control, rapid menu scrolling and alphanumeric searching. One small
price to pay is having the cordless keyboard to hand in the TV Room but
I can live with that.

More thanks.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Jivelite for piCorePlayer

2017-08-21 Thread ian_heys

I hadn't considered using jivelite on my picore until recently.

I installed on V3.21 without problem and then considered remote control.

I installed lirc again without problem and set the jivelite output to
hidraw1 (HDMI).

I bought a FLIRC dongle and had some success pairing it with a NowTV
remote (A cut down branded Roku remote, available for £6.99 with a month
by month subscription service).

The only thing I couldn't do was scroll through the artists/albums
quickly as I hadn't mastered repeat keystrokes.

I considered using my TV's web interface to control the piCore's HDMI
output, but the web interface on my TV switched off the HDMI output.

I then strangely had a bout of lateral thinking and realised that if I
used my TV's split screen funtion (available in the web interface) I
could use the full web interface with the jivelite HDMI output.

Thanks to Triode (in absentia), Ralphy and the entire pcp Team.

Where next with this incredible system?

2017-05-04 Thread ian_heys

Finally up and running on Pi3B server/player with Arcam rPac external
DAC and player with Topping VX2 external DAC/Amp. No issues, don't use
wifi.

During the transition:

1.The SD card latch on my old Pi2B player finally gave up the ghost and
had to get a Pi3B replacement. Considered using epoch1970's NetBoot but
found out only available on Pi3's.

2.One of my Homeplug units developed an intermittent fault and had to be
replaced.

3.I was trying to test bpa's BBC iPlayer enchancement to receive the BBC
Radio 3 test flac stream.

It took a while.

That's good enough for me. Glad I didn't start.

It's fantastic that this forum generates so many diverse functions and
facilities.

Personally I haven't had any SlimDevices/Logitech products for at least
two years but the infrastructure is so good, thanks to all the great
developers, that I wouldn't think of going anywhere else.

And when I can get a true audiophile quality server/player for about
£100.00 it's hard to imagine moving away from this system.

Keep on trucking.
