I am having no issues with adding words to the user-defined dictionary.

When I go to:
Tools - Options - Language Settings - Writing Aids - User-defined
dictionaries - standard
and then click the Edit button I can see the words that I have added to the
standard dictionary.

When I reopen documents that I have added words flagged as misspelt to the
standard user dictionary, these words are no longer marked as misspelt.

Do the words that you add to the user dictionary actually appear in the
dictionary?

regards

Mike

[libreoffice-users] Spellchecker/Dictionary Functions not working

2016-12-01 Thread arakish
Although there is a newer version available, I seriously doubt y'all have
fixed this problem.

Your spellchecker/dictionary functions do not work. In every document I
open, the same words I have already told to "Add to dictionary" are still
flagged as misspellings no matter how often I tell Libre Writer to "Add to
dictionary".

[libreoffice-users] Clean old things from Excel

2016-12-01 Thread Doug McNutt
I have managed to move my finance workbook from a CY 2001 version of
Excel to libre-office-calc.

I had a lot to learn and I'm still frustrated when I want to insert a
few lines of entries from the bank. It's a pain having to do a separate
entry of the number of lines and then paste in contents. But..

Every time I start up the workbook I get a complaint that I'm using
macros and references to another file which is probably where I stored
macro-like commands that I wrote for Excel on the Mac. They used the
Macintosh Programmer's Workshop, MPW, development tools.

I'd like to get rid of the mouse and keystrokes required to startup. I
just say "no" to both but there must be a better way. For those
references there is probably a reference in the 20 worksheets but Mr.
Calc isn't telling me where they are. As for the macros I'd like to
discard them and rewrite those I really need using your command
structure. But where are they so I can killem? I have no intentions to
return to my old Mac. Ubuntu Linux is closer to what I learned in the
1970's.

Re: [libreoffice-users] MS Anniversary upgrade warning - not LO issue

2016-12-01 Thread Tim---Kracked_P_P---webmaster

This laptop, has had "normal" upgrades. I never seen the upgrade icon
that was "hidden" in the app stack on the right side of the task bar. I
was looking to halt/exit an app that keeps trying to run and slow down
the booting. So far, I have not seen it on this laptop. So, maybe the
Win10 "professional" laptop shows up first, or not. This laptop is a
Win10 "home" version - Win7 professional upgraded to Win10's version,
and Win7 Home went to Win10's version of that type of system.

Win10 gave me a icon for the Anniversary Upgrade Assistant. IT took

able to boot at all. When I was able to boot to Windows, it took
about 20 minutes for Windows to auto-fix the file system. Then it took
6 more hours to finish the install. It took less time to install the
Win7 to Win10 upgrade, than it took the Anniversary upgrade.

Yes, MS messes with the GRUB system when it gets install alongside of

Re: [libreoffice-users] MS Anniversary upgrade warning - not LO issue

2016-12-01 Thread Tim---Kracked_P_P---webmaster

When I had Win7 and Ubuntu 14.xx?, upgrading to Win10 just messed with
GRUB to the point that I did not get a boot option. It just booted to
Windows. Simple to fix with a boot loader repair disk. BUT, not this
"upgrade". IT has to break the "system" so it cannot boot to any OS,
even Windows.

What the Anniversary upgrade did to that laptop [not my main one] was
messing up everything so bad that GRUB could not find any OSs in the
laptop. Then when I deleted and reinstalled GRUB, via the repair disk,
Windows tried to boot up so it could finish the install. The problem
was Windows caused a file system error where the partition needed to be
repaired before it continued. I never say such a bad install attempt.

I have worked with Linux on-and-off since the later 90's, for work and
classes. I switched to Ubuntu as my default OS in 2009. Before that I
had a Windows laptop and a Linux desktop.

This laptop - I am typing from - goes to Windows several times a month
to keep it up-to-date. I Windows decides to go crazy like the other
one, I will be very unhappy.

Near the bottom of the Save As dialogue, there is an "Automatic file
name extension" tick box. (Does this release still have that?) Has
this become unticked? This setting sticks, so if you removed the tick
- intentionally or by mistake - it will remain unticked until you
replace it.

Hidden tables -- no

But effect is trivial--set text color of the table to the fill color for
table cells, and print; i.e. set the fill to white and the text to white so
it is not obvious when printed b

Set text color to a contrasting color to fill color and save it (or print)

It is possible to insert the table on a section (Insert → Section) and
then hide the section. Sections accept any kind of contents and you can
even have a section within a section.

It is also possible to set a condition to hide/unhide the section
automatically using a variable: Set a variable (Insert → Field → More
fields → Variable tab) named, for example, MyVariable and give it a
value, for example 2. Now insert the frame and check the "hide" option,
writing under "condition"

MyVariable==1

Here the section will be visible, but if you double click on the
variable and change its value to 2, the section will hide immediately.

Thank you.

What you *can* do - and I think serves your purpose perfectly - is to
insert a section and put your table in the section. Sections can be
hidden, and doing so hides all their contents, of course.

profile information so I'm hoping that on the first item, at least,
there's just a setting that I haven't been able to find.

1. In Writer, I keep seeing "balloon" spelling suggestions. Can't
click on them to do anything, so very annoying. Any way to turn them
off? I haven't found anything in the options that does this.

This seems to be the "word completion" utility. See at Tools →
Autocorrect → Autocorrect options and on the last tab disable the
autocompletion.

2. Also in Writer, using an arrow to move up or down is not always
placing the cursor in the correct place on the second line. For
example, I type a line and, at the end, press up-arrow; instead of the
cursor being at the end of that (shorter) line, it's at a seemingly
random location within the text. For another example, if the cursor
is in the middle a line and I press up-arrow the cursor is then at the
end of the second (longer) line. I haven't been able to discern a
pattern. Is this a known issue? I'm not familiar enough with the bug
reporting system to find it.

I've seen that behaviour too. AFAIK it is present on all 5.x versions.

Regards,
Ricardo

Since it can make a difference, I'm working in Windows 7 Professional
64-bit.

Thanks for any insight anyone can provide!

Dave

[libreoffice-users] hidden tables in LibreOffice?

2016-12-01 Thread Henry Sikkema
Hi,

I am wondering if it is possible to make a hidden table in LibreOffice
Writer (I can make hidden characters but I'd like to make hidden tables)
... if not could that be made a reality?

[I use hidden text/information in my documents because I am a teacher and
in a test for example, the questions for students are not hidden and the
answers are hidden WITHIN the same document. That way I can hide the
answers and print a test for the students and unhide text and print an
answer key.]

Thank you.

Henry

I am a linux ubuntu user since 12 years and noticed that since win 8.1 it is
hard to install and maintain dual boot systems.

If you have not run the Windows 10 Anniversary upgrade, you might want
to consider it as a new OS install that crashes GRUB and messes with the
Windows partition where it need major repair.

Yesterday, I upgraded my older DELL laptop that runs both Windows 10 and
Ubuntu 16.04.

Win10 gave me a icon for the Anniversary Upgrade Assistant. IT took
hours for the download and verify it. During the install, at about 30%
complete, the install required a reboot. GRUB errors was all I got. I
had to use a boot repair disk twice to get the laptop to be able to boot
at all. When I was able to boot to Windows, it took about 20 minutes
for Windows to auto-fix the file system. Then it took 6 more hours to
finish the install. It took less time to install the Win7 to Win10
upgrade, than it took the Anniversary upgrade.

Yes, MS messes with the GRUB system when it gets install alongside of
Ubuntu, but it never caused so much trouble as it did yesterday
afternoon to late evening. 6+ hours to install the upgrade and fix the
laptop so it would boot again, was not expected.

Thank you both, I just finished my project following your
explanations/suggestions. Wouldn't have made it without you!!!

Robert your example files are perfect, exactly what I was trying to do and
didn't know how to.

Thanks again, both of you!
