Subject: Creating A New Text Message

Hi friends,

I am trying to create a new text message to 2020, that is the number of 02 so
that they can send me a link to download the My02App.
For some reason, I can go to a new message and enter 2020 in the to box but it
won't let me enter a message, there doesn't seem to be a message box on the
screen and it could also be trying to pick one of the 02 contact entries.
Does anyone know how I can get around this please?
I have tried searching the app store on the phone for My 022 App but it didn't
come up with any results.

Steve.

RE: Accessibility of Apple Watch?

2014-09-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
That would be like saying a sighted person would have to look at the iPhone to
see the information the watch provides. Yes, the watch requires an iPhone, but
it will have its own apps and one major roll is to give access to notifications
and messages/emails quickly so if it doesn’t speak it will be of little or no
use to a blind person.

Helpful tip for those having trouble pre-orderring the iPhone 6 via Apple's website

2014-09-12 Thread Julian
Hello All,

This may be old news for some of you but, I just pre-ordered my new
iPhone 6 by calling Apple. The website wasn't working for me, probably
due to countless others trying to do the same thing, so I decided to
try calling Apple figuring I had nothing to lose. The first few calls,
I got a recording stating that they couldn't answer due to high call
volume but then I got in and only waited about 10 or so minutes and
then the agent answered. 5 minutes or so later, I had successfully
ordered my new phone and I was done, just like that. The number to
call is: 1-800-6927753. Good luck!!

Julian

I know it sounds a stupid question to those that do this all the time, but

Please clarify, been robbed on ring tones already.

Thanks, RobH.

Don't worry, nothing was hacked. That was a stunt Apple pulled on Tuesday,
basically crediting every Apple ID tied to an iOS device with the album.
Instead of a code to download it, though, it essentially told iTunes that
everyone bought the album. It was free to everyone, and now everyone has

Music you buy is like apps you buy and it has nothing to do with iTunes.
Anyhow, if you don't download it to your iPhone or other iDevice it takes up
no space just like an app you once bought and deleted takes up no space, but
it's still there in your purchase history for you to download if you want
it.

try calling Apple figuring I had nothing to lose.
Good luck!!

We will just have to wait and see, but the Apple Watch does run iOS so I don’t
see why it wouldn’t have Voiceover.

Here is a link to an article which compares the Apple Watch to existing and
other soon to be released smart watches:

http://www.fastcolabs.com/3035518/internet-of-things/how-does-the-apple-watch-compare-to-other-smartwatches

Also, when I read through the features of the watch on the Apple website, the
following was mentioned:

This device has not been authorized as required by the rules of the Federal
Communications Commission.

This device is not, and may not be, offered for sale or lease, or sold or
leased, until authorization is obtained.

Since it’s not out until early next year which I guess could mean anything from
January through April that shouldn’t be an issue.

In this case, what is the function of the iWatch?

If the iWatch is needing a iDevice to provide the accessibility, then will be
better do not buy it, because with the iPhone, we are able to do the same

Re: strange problem with soft keyboard on ipad 2

Joe,

When I went back to investigate I found my perception of what was going on
was wrong. The increase contrast settings seem to have no effect on the
keyboard color. The keyboard that is presented in the app store, however,
is a different color (dark background/key color with light colored
letters/numbers/symbols) than the standard iOS7 keyboard. The keyboard
presented must be specific to the app. Sorry for the

I thought it worked that way too but Kim is reporting that this one is being
downloaded automatically and to get it off your device you have to move it to
the cloud or somewhere but you can't get it out of ITunes.

I am just saying what she is reporting not authenicating her statements.

Music you buy is like apps you buy and it has nothing to do with iTunes.
Anyhow, if you don't download it to your iPhone or other iDevice it takes up no
space just like an app you once bought and deleted takes up no space, but it's
still there in your purchase history for you to download if you want it.

According to Kim Komando Apple did this but once it is in your ITunes you can't
get rid of it. And, it is taking up most of the memory on small memory IPhones.

Wow am I glad I almost never use ITunes.

I found it amusing to see the schtick Tim Cook pulled with that. It was fun,
and while I'm not fanatical about U2, I'll give it a listen. I thought the song

Re: iPhone 6: For Me, It's A SIM Thing

2014-09-12 Thread Mike Arrigo
And, if your carrier offers different size sim cards, get the nano sim,
it will give you the most flexibility. There is an adapter kit you can
get that will let you use a nano sim in phones that take micro sims and
full size sims, on the other hand, if you actually have a larger sim
card, you can't use a phone that takes a smaller size without cutting it.

Original message:

Hello,

I am relieved to learn that the new iPhones will be using the same size SIM
cards as iPhone 5.

I absolutely hate purchasing a new phone that requires changing/Activating a
new SIM card. With A T T Wireless, at least, doing so means several
things including having to setup your VoiceMail over again, losing any
existing saved Voicemail messages, having to reset any custom inbound call
ring delays, and of course, when changing SIM cards, there's always the
risk, if one is not extremely careful, of losing the now grandfathered
unlimited data plan.

However, because switching from a 5 to a 6 is just a matter of popping the
SIM out of the old device and placing it into the new one none of these
pains-in-the-rump will come into play.

The most trouble-free purchasing experience for me was when I upgraded from
a 4 to a 4 S because they used the same size card.

For me, it is definitely A SIM thing.

Hi,

What do I do if that doesn't work. The action selection does not appear on
the rotar. I guess I'm not in the right place but I thought I was. I am in

give me the choice to delete and, if I deleted all songs, the album would go
automatically. Where do I have to be to do this? Does it only work when you
display all songs?

RE: Accessibility of Apple Watch?

2014-09-12 Thread Ron Pelletier
Pablo,

The watch is also a fashion statement. Some people will have it just to be in
style. Having said that, it is not always convenient to pull out your phone.
In our Canadian winters, it will be much much simpler to use the watch to do
whatever is needed on the phone. Having to open your coat when it is minus 30
degrees C just to ask SIRI something is not good. If some people carry their
phone in a back pack, the watch is much better than hunting for the phone. A
woman who doesn’t have any pockets most of the time has her phone in her purse.
Again, it is much easier to use the watch as a vehicle to the iPhone.

So you see, I could go on all day with instances why people would want or
sometimes need the convenience of a watch. A blanket statement like you are
making here is unreasonable. Depending on circumstances, we can’t do with the
phone what will be possible to do with the watch. I can’t afford both but, I do
understand that it would be very nice to have both if I could.

RE: Where did it come from?

2014-09-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I don't know who Kim is and I guess this is one example where repeating
statements from others without checking results in spreading wrong
information. When I opened iTunes I did not see the album because I have
iTunes set not to show purchases in the cloud. I had to first uncheck that
in Settings before I saw the album at which point the album showed up, but I
definitely had to download it first. On my phone I also am not showing my
iCloud music and the album still is not showing. I manage the music on my
phone via iTunes and I sync selected music so until I connect my phone to
iTunes and check U2 this will not sync to my phone which means it will not
take up a single Bite of space on my phone.

I am really surprised how many people are upset with Apple for giving them a
free album especially one from a popular band. Yes, not everybody may like
U2, but what ever happened to you don't look a gift horse in the mouth. If
somebody gave me that CD physically as a present I would not bite off their
head, but I would thankthem and if I didn't like it I would either give the
CD away or throw it in the garbage later. It appears that in about a month
this will disappear from people's accounts if you don't download it.

Music you buy is like apps you buy and it has nothing to do with iTunes.
Anyhow, if you don't download it to your iPhone or other iDevice it takes up
no space just like an app you once bought and deleted takes up no space, but
it's still there in your purchase history for you to download if you want
it.

I found it amusing to see the schtick Tim Cook pulled with that. It was fun,
and while I'm not fanatical about U2, I'll give it a listen. I thought the
song that was performed was pretty nice. But hey, if you don't like them,
you can remove them. It doesn't count against your iCloud space, though.

Questions re the mail program

2014-09-12 Thread Donald L. Roberts
Although I set up mail on my 4S a long time ago, I had never used it but
now want to use it while out of town.

First of all, does the native mail program have any filtering
capabilities? I have one account exclusively for list traffic from
several lists. But I want to see mail only from this list and one
other. So can I tell mail not to download messages which contain
certain header info?

Second, when looking at messages in the inbox, there is a hide option.
Just what does this do?

Last question for today, what do I do to turn on message threading?

Thanks in advance for feedback.

RE: IOS8!!!

2014-09-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Krister,

No, quick type and Direct Touch Typing have nothing to do with each other.
Quick Type gives you predictions of words you might want to type next. This
works in 2 ways. If I start a text message and write I then most likely
one of the 3 quick type suggestions is am which means quick type will try
to predict what you want to write and it will learn as it goes about your
style and so on. The second way it predicts words is by coming up with new
predictions as you start typing a word. If you type I and the 3
predictions it comes up with are am, just and need and you then start
the next word with h it will show new predictions like have, hardly or
hope.

Direct Touch Typing is a new typing mode which you find if you are in an
edit field and turn the rotor to Typing Mode. So far we had Standard Typing
and Touch Typing which we are all familiar with. Direct Touch Typing is
different from regular Touch Typing in that you actually have to tap the
screen and lift before a letter is typed, if you just touch a letter and
lift as in regular touch typing the letter won't type. It's most like a
regular physical keyboard where just touching a key and lifting your finger
won't do anything. You have to press the key and as you do so and press it
down and let go the letter is typed. With direct touch typing it's the same,
it has to be a definitely tap or press and I think it might be useful on an
iPad in landscape mode where you might be able to learn how to type like on
a regular keyboard. I have so far not found it too helpful on the iPhone for
the way I type and still prefer regular touch typing.

I really don't think that iOS has any filtering by itself. I think you have to
go through iCloud control panel to do this, and I don't know how acccessible it

Message threading should be on by default, but it is found in settings, then go
to mail/contacts/calendars and you will find that in there.

Hope this helps,

So you see, I could go on all day with instances why people would want or

Don't worry, nothing was hacked. That was a stunt Apple pulled on Tuesday,
basically crediting every Apple ID tied to an iOS device with the album.
Instead of a code to download it, though, it essentially told iTunes that
everyone bought the album. It was free to everyone, and now everyone has it

Re: NFL Now

want to listen to and then look for the listen or replay buttons.

When I bring up NFL Mobile, I'll sometimes see the game I want to listen
to on the first screen, either because it's on right now or because it's
my favorite team. I can double tap on the game and get into the game
 center.

If I don't obviously see the game I want to listen to on the first
screen, I double tap the menu button at the top of the screen. I then
double tap on Scores and Schedules. You can't get to this by swiping but
it's a header in the upper left quadrant of the screen. I just get to it
by exploring the upper left hand corner of the screen.

Now I go through the list of current games and double tap the game I
want to hear or I'll use the unlabeled button near the top, between the
week buttons, and choose another week to hear a game that's already been
 played in a previous week.

Once I've double tapped on the game I want to listen to, I'm in the game
center, and below the score board is either a listen button if the game
is live or a replay button if the game is over.

 I hope this helps.

Hello Sieghard,

My friend, I agree with you in most aspects of your reply accept one.

You stated that if someone gave you a free CD, you would accept it
graciously. The key word here is accept. No doubt that you would, as would
I. However, that is not what Apple did, What they did is more like : You
come home, one evening, open up your locked house, and find that someone
broke into your house and placed a CD on your kitchen table without first
asking permission to enter your house. It is not the free album that I and
others object to but the way in which they delivered it.

Anyhow, if you don't download it to your iPhone or other iDevice it takes up

I am really surprised how many people are upset with Apple for giving them

U2, but what ever happened to you don't look a gift horse in the mouth.
 If
somebody gave me that CD physically as a present I would not bite off their

RE: Swapping iPhones same mobile account

2014-09-12 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Hi,

Does your experience provide any guidance as follows?

I have a Verizon account. I have to purchase my new phone from the Apple Store
as I have a gift card for this purpose.

My daughter will be getting my iPhone 5, but currently does not have a smart
phone. I want to add her to my Verizon account as a user with the iPhone 5.

I'm thinking I'll need to buy the iPhone 6 from Apple and remain on contract
with Verizon. I'm not aware of any other way to get her and the iphone 5 added
to my Verizon account than to then take it and her to a Verizon store to set up
the account and have them transfer her phone number from her pay-as-you go
basic cell phone.

I mean, I don't think Apple can do this in one step. Or can they?

Thanks. Keith

Every time I buy a new phone I give my current one to my wife. With Verizon it
is easier to have the phone company make the changes to the numbers. I would

will not sync to my phone which means it will not take up a single
Bite of space on my phone.

I am really surprised how many people are upset with Apple for giving
them a free album especially one from a popular band. Yes, not
everybody may like U2, but what ever happened to you don't look a
 gift horse in the mouth.
 If
somebody gave me that CD physically as a present I would not bite off
their head, but I would thankthem and if I didn't like it I would
either give the CD away or throw it in the garbage later. It appears
that in about a month this will disappear from people's accounts if you
 don't download it.

 Hi Krister,

No, quick type and Direct Touch Typing have nothing to do with each
 other.
Quick Type gives you predictions of words you might want to type next.
 This
works in 2 ways. If I start a text message and write I then most likely
one of the 3 quick type suggestions is am which means quick type will
 try
to predict what you want to write and it will learn as it goes about your
style and so on. The second way it predicts words is by coming up with
 new
predictions as you start typing a word. If you type I and the 3
predictions it comes up with are am, just and need and you then
 start
the next word with h it will show new predictions like have, hardly
 or
 hope.

Direct Touch Typing is a new typing mode which you find if you are in an
edit field and turn the rotor to Typing Mode. So far we had Standard
 Typing
and Touch Typing which we are all familiar with. Direct Touch Typing is
different from regular Touch Typing in that you actually have to tap the
screen and lift before a letter is typed, if you just touch a letter and
lift as in regular touch typing the letter won't type. It's most like a
regular physical keyboard where just touching a key and lifting your
 finger
won't do anything. You have to press the key and as you do so and press
 it
down and let go the letter is typed. With direct touch typing it's the
 same,
it has to be a definitely tap or press and I think it might be useful on
 an
iPad in landscape mode where you might be able to learn how to type like
 on
a regular keyboard. I have so far not found it too helpful on the iPhone
 for
the way I type and still prefer regular touch typing.

Re: Questions re the mail program

2014-09-12 Thread Christopher Chaltain
No, there's no filtering built into the stock email client on the
iPhone. Since you use Gmail though, you could set up filtering on the
Gmail web site.

To have your email threaded, just go to Settings - Mail, Contacts,
Calendars and toggle organize by thread to on.

First of all, does the native mail program have any filtering

several lists. But I want to see mail only from this list and one

certain header info?

Second, when looking at messages in the inbox, there is a hide option.
Just what does this do?

Last question for today, what do I do to turn on message threading?

Thanks in advance for feedback.

Keith, I have experienced a similar type situation. You will have to deal with
your carrier. They will have to program the number to the phone. You can
purchase your phone from Apple, but don't do anything to activate it. Take all
of those steps when you get to the ATT or Verizon store. I forget which

If you are on a GSM network, both people should back up their phones and
reset them. Then they will swap sim cards and restore the switched phones.
So if you are switching with Bob, you and Bob will back up and then reset

upgrade status checked by Apple, I was offered either a two year
contract, or to sign up for their next plan where you pay off the
iPhone in monthly installments added to your bill. True, you may
pay off your installments early in one lump sum, but you still
must choose either their Next plan or the two year contract when
making your purchase

I tried and tried to order the 64GB iPhone Plus, was up at three
o'clock this morning as I had planned. But, it first took the
Apple Store app till almost twenty after three to get updated and
let me in; then, right away the 64GB wasn't available. So, I
played around a bit and the 16GB was available, the app never
seemed to get through to checking with my carrier for the
upgrade, and they finally generated me a reservation number to
use for when they were able to check with ATT.

But, I kept playing with the Apple Store app, anyway, and finally
got the 64GB iPhone 6 Plus to be available to ship within seven
to ten business days. Then, wouldn't you know it, after then
amazingly getting through the ATT verification this time, the
Apple Store app showed me my two options of the Next installment
plan or the two year contract; but, for some reason, although
VoiceOver read the options to me, the app just would not let me
select either, as there were just no buttons on which to double
tap.

Needless to say, as it was then just about time for me to get
ready for work, I gave up on the process at that time. And, when
I checked the status of the 64GB iPhone 6 Plus an hour or so
later, It was showing a three to four week time frame to ship.

When I got home from work, I had an email from Apple saying that
my reserved 16GB 6 Plus was now available for me to order, and I
had until nine AM PST tomorrow to keep the priority of this
order, which sounded about right since they told me I would have
twenty-four hours before losing my reservation. Thus I, this
time knowing what likely lay ahead of me with the Apple Store
app, I went to my PC and to the link I was given and entered my
reservation number and other verification information. I then
selected the Next installment plan and Apple Care and a leather
case and added them to my cart. I then chose the option to save
my cart for later so I could think about things a bit further.
For, I had originally wanted the 64GB iPhone; but, on the other
hand, I don't put much on my 16GB now, still have 10.8GB
available.

A couple of other things that I was wondering about but didn't
know. First, when I was given the shipping times for my iPhone 6
Plus and my Apple leather case, they were indeed different time
frames, leading me to then believe that they would not be shipped
together. And, second, when I saved my cart, I was indeed able
to sign back into the Apple Store on my PC and retrieve it;
however, unlike the Schwan's frozen food app, my cart did not
transfer over and show up in the Apple Store app on my iPhone.

Re: Swapping iPhones same mobile account

2014-09-12 Thread Cheryl Homiak
Actually, all of this can probably be done over the phone without going in
unless you want to do that. I know a friend who works with Verizon just porting
numbers when people call in and also once you get your new iPhone, you just
turn off your old phone before setting up the new one and that deactivates the
old one. I don't think they have to do any hands-on programming for you to put
your old phone on another line on your account and add that line. In fact, I
did something like this a couple of years ago except that a number port wasn't
involved. You may decide it's easier to go in but I think it actually isn't
necessary. It's amazing how much they can do just with you calling in.

You are correct. If your account is in good standing, though, you can bill your

unless they are downloaded you will never even see it.
OK, that's the last I have to say about it. I did download it and it's
actually not a bad album. Apart from that the entire issue is about as
pointless as the discussion about Apple downloading new iOS updates to your
phone or the one about Apple not allowing you to downgrade to older versions
of iOS. Sometimes life just is so unfair and aweful, isn't it.

Mark

I thought it worked that way too but Kim is reporting that this one is being
downloaded automatically and to get it off your device you have to move it
to the cloud or somewhere but you can't get it out of ITunes.

I am just saying what she is reporting not authenicating her statements.

Music you buy is like apps you buy and it has nothing to do with iTunes.
Anyhow, if you don't download it to your iPhone or other iDevice it takes up
no space just like an app you once bought and deleted takes up no space, but
it's still there in your purchase history for you to download if you want
it.

Hi,

According to Kim Komando Apple did this but once it is in your ITunes you
can't get rid of it. And, it is taking up most of the memory on small
memory IPhones.

Wow am I glad I almost never use ITunes.

I found it amusing to see the schtick Tim Cook pulled with that. It was fun,
and while I'm not fanatical about U2, I'll give it a listen. I thought the
song that was performed was pretty nice. But hey, if you don't like them,
you can remove them. It doesn't count against your iCloud space, though.

Actually, it is more like, you have a mailbox that opens on to the shelf on
your wall. Apple placed the album on that shelf. You can take the album from
the shelf into your house, or you can leave it. If you leave it, the mail man
will remove it in just over a month. No invasion whatsoever.

In this case, people are looking for a reason to complain about Apple. Their
justifications are extremely thin.
