Re: for Joshua

2020-08-29 Thread Robin

MyBad & MyApologies: Thought "what" I was Talkin'About was "Clear".
 My VZW (VerizonWireless) iPhoneXS MAX,
which I purchased in LateSpring2019 came
EquippedWith Apple's iOS12, & updated it to the
Last iOS12, which was iOS12.4.1.

&
IN November 2020, I was Fortunate to Receive
a NEW iPhone11PRO, which came EquippedWith
iOS13, so I Left that iPhone's Update
automatically Because it was "buggy" & use it
primarily on WiFi or MobileHotSpot

&
My iPhoneXS MAX as MyPrimary iOSDevice because
the iOS software is More Stable For me & some
of the MobileApps aren't workin' on iOS13, Like
MoneyReader. Yes, I know there
are "substitutes" Like EyeNote & CashReader &
Microsoft's SeeingAI to Fill the Void. (Note:
CashReader isn't FREE Like MoneyReader was).

Hope, Iwas Able to Clear ThingsUp for ya, if
not, Feel free to Ask More Questions, & I will
Do MyBest to try & Fill in the Blanks: To Clear ThingsUp for ya

Hi Chris, and anyone else who uses smart news
Somebody told me that there is an actual support email support at smart
news.com. I didn’t see that when I was looking for somewhere to write them.
But, if you use this app and you think that it would be nice if SmartView were
the default, I urge you to send an email to that effect to
supp...@smartnews.com, and hopefully we’ll get something useful. I’m not
holding my breath, but you never know.

in order to return titles. A dialogue opens up over the page
once you double tap on "return" and then you need to navigate
that dialogue. Not too hard at all. I like the thought of being
able to return books from right in the app so I hope they extend
 that option to Canada.

Re: anyone out there using smart news

2020-08-29 Thread Cris Ali
Hi Paul,
I have smart news installed on my iPhone and iPad. I use it once a while. I
have notifications turned off. However, I noticed that any time I double tap on
a news headline, it takes me to the website of the headline origin. Some of
these websites are accessible and it is easy to read the details pertaining to
the selected headline, but at other times the websites are inaccessible and
hard to navigate. The app does not extract the details of the headlines and
present them to you in an accessible text. I noticed that when the original
source of the headline is a TV network, the navigation is harder.

Exactly that’s what I’m afraid of! But too would you guys change the battery on
a 5S, to use it as an IPod of sorts? If so, could this phone be set up without
a Sim card inserted?

You can but I'd suggest putting a sim in to get it setup and then removing the
sim again,

I normally suggest getting a blank or old no longer working sim so the
notifications go away.

Try to increase volume from rotor. Maybe you'll need help to do it.
If you have volume activate in rotor and aptic vibration, you'll be able alone:
try to flic up one finger each time you turn rotor.
Good luck!

RE: Still no luck with Audible

2020-08-29 Thread Alan Lemly
The website might work just fine for exchanging an Audible title but you don’t'
have to go there. I just executed the menu button next to one of the titles in
my Audible library using the iPhone app and when I double tapped on the
Exchange this title option, I was presented with a screen containing a picture
of that title saying I'd pick a new title in a moment and that I'd get one
credit back after removing the title from my library. A button at the bottom of
that screen said Let's do it. I stopped at that point but the Exchange this
title option appears to be working just fine provided your Audible app has it
in your menu choices. I'm in the States and I know the exchange option isn't
available in some other countries or on Mary Otten's iDevice.

Well, I did sign out of my Audible account on one of my phones and then sign
back in. I still dont have that exchange or return option in my menu, so if I
want to return something, ill just have to do it the old-fashioned way on the
PC. Strange.

I would speak with Apple about this and see if a battery replacement
might be possible. You don't want that battery exploding on you for
sure. That could be highly dangerous and might even start a fire. You
should not ever plug this phone into power until this is resolved.

Re: Still no luck with Audible

2020-08-29 Thread Mary Otten
Well, unless they’ve made a change, the ability to actually return a book is
dependent on when you bought it. If you bought it more than a year ago, you
cannot return it. That is of course, unless audible has changed something. So
maybe you see the exchange thing in there, but if you double tap on it, do you
actually get to exchange the book for something else? As far as what’s in that
menu, I have everything everybody else has with the exception of the exchange
button. It has things like cancel, send, favorites, book details, and there
might be one more, but it’s not relevant.

Re: Still no luck with Audible

2020-08-29 Thread Kimberly
Mary,

What are the options you see when you double tap the menu button?

Sorry if this question has already been asked, but I’m coming in late to this
discussion.

And to comment on what someone else suggested, I don’t believe it has anything
to do with the length of time you have had the title. Just to test, I tried
with a title I’ve had for several years and got the exchange this title with no
problem.

Say, HeySiri, Turn VoiceOver OFF & then HeySiri, Turn VoiceOver ON.

Re: anyone out there using smart news

2020-08-29 Thread Mary Otten
Hi Paul,
I do use that app, and the problem with it is that when you get to the screen
where the story is, often, you will want to find the “smart“ button rather than
using the default web view. The web view is horrible. But if you double tap on
the smart button, which is just to the left of the “share“ button, you have
much better results. Sometimes, there is no smart view. But in such cases, the
stories generally read fine. You just need to trash that stupid web view. They
need to have a setting where smart is the default if it’s available.

I have an iPhone 8 with no sim card. I use it with all of my apps except I can
not make an outgoing call. I can only text with people that have idevices,
but, other than that, everything works perfectly. i can answer calls, but,
just not make them. My husband has an iPad, and he can make and receive calls
on it while on wifi. I often wonder why that is not the case with an iphone
with no sim.

RE: Using and setting up iPhones without Sims?

2020-08-29 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Gerardo,

Please do not continue to use a phone with a swollen battery. Doing so is
extremely dangerous. I cannot stress this enough.

If you go to Google or Yelp and search for cell phone repair, depending upon
where you live, you will find several local repair shops that can easily remove
the battery from your phone and, in many cases, replace the battery. About a
month ago, I had a swollen battery removed from one of my older phones for a
cash fee of $30.

A swollen phone battery, even if the screen continues to function, can explode
at any moment; trust me, you do not want this to happen.

When I discovered that one of my phones had a swollen battery, I placed it in a
huge box and put it on my back patio, overnight, until I could get it to the
shop, the next day.

My point is that, no matter how much you depend upon your phone, it is not
worth any injuries that could be the result of a chemically imbalanced battery
that could result in an explosion.

Some people think that some things are not a big deal; that is, until they are.

Be smart and do the following:
1.
Power down the phone, immediately.

2.
Place it in a large container so that nothing can press down or fall on the
phone.

3.
Place the container in an isolated location.

4.
Locate a professional who can safely remove the damaged battery from the phone.

Mark

Can one set up and use an iPHone 5S without a SimCard inserted in? This phone
is deleted and restored to default, however the screen is so swollen that it’s
sometimes difficult flicking, double-tapping and others. If I had enough money,
I’d buy myself an IPOd touch at least for the purposes of multimedia
consumption, and others (I’d like it to be sort of a Victor Reader Stream on
Stieriods), but ‘m worried that the 5S might exlode on me! what would you guys

RE: for Joshua

2020-08-29 Thread Alan Lemly
Joshua,

That weird tapping thing you referenced after your upgrade to iOS 13.x is
called haptic feedback. I was also a bit surprised by it when I first upgraded
to iOS 13 but I'd suggest you leave it on and try it out for a while. I expect
it is helpful to those who also have a hearing impairment. You can change the
intensity level of the haptic feedback at Settings, Accessibility, Voiceover,
Audio, Sounds and haptics. There is a Haptics heading on this screen and just
below it is a button to turn it on or off. Just below that is a control to set
the intensity level. You can single finger swipe up or down this control to
change the intensity in multiple degrees or you can single finger tap and hold
the control and slide left or right to change the intensity granularity with
more precision.

Well, the good news is, I don't really mind the new update like I thought I
would. The only reason why I updated, was it seemed like apple did the update,
and I had to enter in my touch ID. I didn't have the option of saying later.
There is this weird tapping thing that might happen when you update. You will
feel it when you swipe on the screen. Just call apple accessibility and they
will help you get rid of that. You won't be able to check the status bar to
see the battery level of a bluetooth device. You have to go to battery on page
one of your phone to see that. Although, usually I can just ask Siri current
battery level and she will tell me the battery level of my iPhone and a
bluetooth device. If you have to update, good luck.
It really isn't that bad.

RE: Using and setting up iPhones without Sims?

2020-08-29 Thread Richard Turner
I did that.
No battery replacement, but after resetting it without a Sim card I was able to
use it like an iPod.

See what the battery replacement will cost and I'd double check with Apple to
confirm you will be able to set it up as a WiFi device if you get a new battery.

Exactly that’s what I’m afraid of! But too would you guys change the battery on

2020-08-29 Thread timothy.appleby1701
Hi there, it's better to have the title you wish to watch downloaded so that
you can watch the particular movie when wi-fi isn't available as surely you
know, watching video feeds cost loads of data.

I hope this helps.

Re: Still no luck with Audible

Hi Sieghard,

I believe Mary said she checked some recently acquired books when trying to
locate the Exchange option. I was thinking the same thing but when I went
through my library including titles I finished a few years ago, I still had the
exchange option in the app for all of them.

I am in Canada and as somebody else already pointed out, this feature is not
yet available here. However, is this not an option which would disappear after
a while? What I mean is that I thought you can only return a book within a
certain time frame, not sure what it is, but I wonder if Mary checked this for
a book she purchased recently or one she purchased more than 2 or 3 months ago.

Mary,

I'm not usually a fan of what I'm going to suggest because it sounds like one
of those standard boilerplate recommendations but you might delete and
reinstall the Audible app. I'm only suggesting this if you're sure you have the
most recent version installed and you haven't downloaded a lot of titles to
your device. It just isn't right that the Exchange this title option doesn't
appear when you open the menu of one of your Audible library books.

On your phone you should be able to dig deeper in to the POP 3 account
settings,

I can’t remember exactly but it’s off one of the mail box addresses in
this case incoming (pop3) address that takes you in to more settings /
features for the account,

Have a look and see what you can find.

Sorry I no longer have a pop account to try this with.

In the mail settings there is a option for how long to keep the email.
I would also look at a third party email client.

Hi all,

I have a strange one for you. I am trying to figure out why when my
husband goes through his emails on his phone and deletes them and even
empties the trash folder, when he goes back in to read more, these emails
come back. Is there anywhere on the phone that you can turn off to save a
copy of messages on server? It looks like that is what is happening. He is
using pop 3. Or do you have any other ideas? Thanks in advance for any
thoughts.

It really is a good idea to keep your phones updated. One of the main reasons
is Security. Another one is each time the update happens, there may be some
bugs, but, it’s not that bad at the phone cannot be operated at all.

Re: for Joshua

2020-08-29 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
Well, the good news is, I don't really mind the new update like I
thought I would. The only reason why I updated, was it seemed like
apple did the update, and I had to enter in my touch ID. I didn't
have the option of saying later. There is this weird tapping thing
that might happen when you update. You will feel it when you swipe on
the screen. Just call apple accessibility and they will help you get
rid of that. You won't be able to check the status bar to see the
battery level of a bluetooth device. You have to go to battery on
page one of your phone to see that. Although, usually I can just ask
Siri current battery level and she will tell me the battery level of
my iPhone and a bluetooth device. If you have to update, good luck.
It really isn't that bad.

Exactly that’s what I’m afraid of! But too would you guys change the battery on
a 5S, to use it as an IPod of sorts? If so, could this phone be set up without

I would speak with Apple about this and see if a battery replacement
might be possible. You don't want that battery exploding on you for

Re: Smart Bulbs With Alexa?

2020-08-29 Thread Kenny

Yes too all three of your questions.

A smart light-bulb can only work with a mechanical On/Off switch. You
obviously need to leave the switch on after setting one up for it to
work with Lady A.

Hi, list.

I do apologize if admins think that this is not directly related to
iPhone.

I live in an older apartment building in Vancouver, Canada.

I got Echo Dot and installed Alexa from the App-Store.

I have three questions,

1.

Can I use smart light-bulbs in old buildings?

2.

Can I use smart bulbs along with traditional bulbs?

I mean I want smart bulbs at a couple of places only.

3.

Does smart bulb work with mechanical switch too?

Thanks!
