Re: Gmail account

2018-11-16 Thread Maria Reyes
Hi,
Where would you like to set this gmail account up? To create a new Gmail
account open up Safari and go to accounts.google.com and if you aren't signed
up you should get the login screen. Flick passed the login button and you
should hear a link called create account. Double tap that. Now enter the
credentials it asks for.

Gmail account

2018-11-16 Thread Lea W Langley

Sent from my iPhone hi Al, and thank you for the help.

How do I create a Gmail account or find the one that I have created, and after
that how do I set it up?. I found the one I had created but I don’t know how to
set it up or activate it. I got the Gmail app from the App Store. Was this the
right thing to do? Thank you and you can feel free to write me off list if you
would like.

God bless,

RE: synching gmail account with Iphone app

2017-09-29 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Susan,

I will keep my answers to your questions as brief as possible but please note
that they are, in no way, comprehensive or definitive.

First, generally speaking, mail clients download only the header information,
for each message, directly onto the device. This is assuming that you are
using the iMap protocol. More importantly, a web browser, such as Safari, is
not involved. Please remember that I said that this is generally, not always,
how it's done.

As to your second question, I suggest that you login to your Google account,
via a web browser, and cleanup any unwanted messages, folders/labels, from
there.

You can find the information on how best to clean up old messages from the web
but the broad strokes are as follows:

1.
Login to your gMail account.

2.
Open the archive folder/label.

3.
Move all of these messages into the Trash folder.

4.
Delete all of the messages in the trash folder.

Now, when next you open a mail client, such as iOS Mail, Outlook etc, you will
no longer have such a staggering amount of messages being downloaded.

Susan, I suggest that you begin your endeavor by thoroughly exploring the
settings area of your gMail account paying particular attention to the Trash
and Archive folder settings. For example, you can configure gMail to delete
trashed messages, automatically, after 30 days. You can also set the default
action, when a message is removed, to be trashed instead of being archive.

Take your time in exploring the gMail settings for there are a lot of
customization options available.

Good Luck,

Mark

Hi everyone,
I've been using the IPhone for nearly 3 years but only recently
decided to use the email app on my phone and have a few questions
regarding configuration. Firstly, are messages actually downloaded
when the email app opens or are they being retrieved from the cloud by
Safari or whatever? Secondly--and this is the main question--how can I
deal with the way gmail archives or stores its messages with regard to
my phone? As soon as I set up the account all the messages predictably
showed up from the gmail serverand started to multiply as they always
seem to do when I set up a new account ... the inbox on my PC now has
1036 messages in my inbox and my phone shows about 3000, same for my
Thunderbird client which I downloaded last night. Can someone tell me
the best way to clean up these old messages from my phone and/or my PC
so they don't download or duplicate from the gmail archives or
whatever they are. I can't figure out where to go in the gmail
settings to do this and it is both embarrassing and frustrating to
admit to this problem. Can I sanely accomplish this just from my phone
or must I resort to trying to find my seldom used BT keyboard, and
would it be worthwhile for me to try to use the gmail app for this or
other related email tasks? I'm lost, can you tell? Any help much
appreciated.

Re: subscribing to this list without a gmail account?

2016-06-29 Thread Antonio Guimaraes
Hello,

I too have had an enormously difficult time joining this list.

I am did up connecting with someone who forwarded a message to the moderator on
my behalf.

Marc send me a direct email invitation to join the list. I just have to accept
it, and was immediately back on.

I believe the methods for joining these lists should be revised. Sending a
subscribe message to the Google groups address generates an e-mail to the
sender asking to write back a reason for joining the list.

Apparently this goes out for approval, but it's never reviewed by a moderator.
This resulted in my request to join to be denied several times before I got
really upset about my ability to join back on the list with a different email
address.

This is discouraging for people who are trying to learn how to use new
technologies.

I would recommend that the procedures for joining the list be revised to make
it possible for people to join.
As ever,

Antonio

Changing e-mail from all messages to most recent 150 in Pop3 Gmail account on iPhone 6

2016-03-22 Thread Kevin Gibbs
guys,

I’m sorry if the subject line isn’t clear. It used to be that my Gmail
account, which is a Pop3 on my iPhone, used to only download the most recent
150 messages, or so. When I upgraded from my iPhone 4, running iOS 6.x, to my
iPhone 6, running iOS 8 and then 9, my Pop3 account changed so that tens of
thousands of e-mails were downloaded to my phone. Space is not an issue. but
I really wish I could change this so that it works the way my iPhone 4 used to.
that is, I only want 150 messages, or less, on my phone unless I choose to
“see more.” Can this be changed?

thanks,
Kevin

Changing e-mail from All Messages to most recent 150 in Pop3 Gmail account on iPhone 6 under iOS9.x

2016-03-20 Thread Kevin Gibbs
guys,

I’m sorry if the subject line isn’t clear. It used to be that my Gmail
account, which is a Pop3 on my iPhone, used to only download the most
recent 150 messages, or so. When I upgraded from my iPhone 4, running iOS
6.x, to my iPhone 6, running iOS 8 and then 9, my Pop3 account changed so
that tens of thousands of e-mails were downloaded to my phone. Space is
not an issue. but I really wish I could change this so that it works the
way my iPhone 4 used to. that is, I only want 150 messages, or less, on my
phone unless I choose to “see more.” Can this be changed?

thanks,
Kevin

Using Safari to Access Gmail Account

2015-08-07 Thread Craig Werner
Greetings to the list.

I access my Gmail account via the Gmail iOS app, but recently, I decided to
use Safari just to see how it would work. I noticed that I would sometimes
have to double-tap more than once on message information in order to bring
up the message. In addition, I could not locate the button to use to sign
out of my account. Has anyone noticed these behaviors!

Thank you for all help.

Craig

RE: How to forward a message from a gmail account on an Iphone 5 C

2014-11-19 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Johnna,

You can forward a message from your message list/inbox by swiping up or down
with one finger until you get to the More option. Then double tap and things
like Reply, Forward and so on will pop up in a small menu.

If you open the message you can double tap on the Reply button at the bottom,
just to the right of Delete which is right above the home button. I guess maybe
it might be Archive for you depending on how you configured your account.
Anyhow, if you double tap on Reply then you will also get a similar menu with
Reply, Forward etc.

Regards,
Sieghard

I use IMAP with Gmail on my iPhone, and I just get the newest 50
messages downloaded to the phone, and as you said, it's not the whole
message, if it's a particularly large message.

will be downloaded to my iPhone the first time I use it to check my

Re: Settin Up Gmail Account as IMAP - first iPhone Connection

2013-02-16 Thread Christopher Chaltain
No, I did not. It's the default. I think you can change it to grab the
newest 100 or 200 or so on, but I'm not sure you can change it to grab
say the oldest messages. Note that some people on this list have
reported problems with all of their thousands of emails being downloaded
to their iPads, but I didn't have this problem myself, and I'm not sure
how it could happen unless the iPad handles emails differently from the
iPhone with some different options for example.

Re: Settin Up Gmail Account as IMAP - first iPhone Connection

2013-02-15 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I use IMAP with Gmail on my iPhone, and I just get the newest 50
messages downloaded to the phone, and as you said, it's not the whole
message, if it's a particularly large message.

Re: Settin Up Gmail Account as IMAP - first iPhone Connection

2013-02-15 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi there. Just set up your Gmail account following the Gmail set up on your
phone. It will pool that inbox and all the other folders as well, but unless
you actually open them then it will not download messages from those extra
folders or labels. Also it is correct that in the inbox it will only pull the
message headers and the first part of the message. So this way it doesn't take
up any extra space that has to. By default it will load the newest 50 messages,
but you can change that to more. The last thing is you will want to turn off
archiving so that any messages you delete will go to the trash instead of the
all-male folder. I do not know how all this will be affected by your computer
Gmail account using pop instead of IMAP.

RE: Settin Up Gmail Account as IMAP - first iPhone Connection

2013-02-15 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Alan,

I can't say this for sure, but I would be careful if you use POP with your
gmail account on the computer and IMAP on the iPhone. I do remember that in
Settings on your gmail account you have to enable either POP or IMAP
depending on what you want to use and I'm not sure if it will work in a
mixed mode so to speak.

Which version of Windows and Outlook are you using? If it's Outlook 2007 or
2010 I don't see why you wouldn't use IMAP both on the computer and the
iPhone and this way your mail would always be in sync.

Sieghard

iPhone Gmail Account Settings

2013-02-06 Thread Alan Lemly
I need some help thinking through how I will set up my iPhone's email
settings after I get it. I have a Gmail account and will more than likely
use my computer to read 90% of my email but I want the option to check email
on the iPhone while I'm away from the computer. Here is the applicable
information:

1. I have my Gmail account on the web set up with both IMAP and POP
enabled.
2. I have my Outlook email client used on the computer set up to
download via POP all my Gmail messages which are then moved on the Gmail
server out of the inbox into the All Mail folder. In other words, I can
access all my Gmail messages via the web interface since none are ever
deleted.
3. I want to set up my iPhone email to access my Gmail account so I can
read any messages in the inbox while away from the computer but not to
delete them from the Gmail servers.

Here are my questions:

1. If I check messages in my Gmail inbox with the iPhone, are these
messages actually downloaded to the phone not unlike how they are downloaded
to my computer in Outlook or does this depend on some iPhone email setting?
2. If I'm able to view the messages with my iPhone as I do with the
computer using the web interface, I assume I could use the iPhone to move
them into the All Mail folder via IMAP to retain all the messages on the
Gmail servers and also to avoid having messages I've already reviewed again
downloaded to my computer's Outlook client via POP.

I know this question is primarily procedural but any help in explaining how
mail is treated on the iPhone and helping me accomplish my goal will be
greatly appreciated.

I'll put the same argument a different way. If you initiate a message, it
will default to whatever address you got set as default; hwichi ndeed may
not be the one subscribed.
So after the To field, there's a CC/BCC thing, and then the address you're
sending from, hwich is a button you can tap and then select from your
addresses/identities you goton that phone.

I make this error on the pc, and usually because I more normally click
reply and it automatically replies from the addi that received it. So that's
worth a look and try.

Re: New Gmail account -- seeking advice

2012-10-03 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I didn't see any answers to this question yet, so I apologize if I just
missed them. POP is good if you'll be downloading your mail messages and
keeping them on a single system, like a home PC. You can check messages
from other devices before they're removed from your email server, and
you can set up your email clients to either just leave the messages on
the server, download them to your device or just delete the message from
your server that you delete or file from your client. I haven't ever set
up POP on my iPhone, although I did use it for quite a while across
multiple PC's.

IMAP keeps all of your email and folders on a server. If you delete a
message from one client or move it to a folder, you'll see this change
on all of your clients. This is what I use now.

I think Exchange is similar in functionality to IMAP, but I don't use it
myself, other than to synchronize my Google Contacts with my iPhone.

When you set up your email account on your PC, what was your email
provider and what client were you using? Thunderbird will automatically
set up your email account for you, so it may figure out that you're
using IMAP or POP without ever asking you. The client will need to know
what protocol you're using though.

gmail account

2012-08-31 Thread Kirsten Edmondson
Hi all,
I have just added my gmail account to my iphone, and it works successfully to
send and receive messages, but randomly I don't have a delete button. I can't
find a delete button when at the bottom of the screen when I have the message
open or when I click edit and then select the messages. There is a different
button called archive is this the same thing?
Did I set up the account up wrong?
Sorry for my ignorance!

Re: gmail account

2012-08-31 Thread Scott Davert
Hi Kirsten.
I typically don't delete my messages in this manor, though it does
work. Archiving is something entirely different, it stores your
messages, quite litterally, in an archive. What I do to delete
messages is as follows:
When you know exactly what messages you wish to delete, when in the
Inbox folder, and not a message, find the edit button located to the
right of the heading for the title of the folder. Activate this, and
then begin flicking right and double tapping the messages you wish to
delete. At the bottom of the current view of messages is a move
button. Double tap the move button and this will bring up a list of
folders. Navigate to the trash folder, double tap, and all those
messages you earlier selected will be moved to your Trash folder, and
ultimatley deleted after 2 weeks on your phone. Note that this does
not delete your messages from the Gmail server, it moves them into the
trash folder.

Re: gmail account

2012-08-31 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I don't have an All Mail folder on my iPhone. I don't exactly know why,
since I do have one on Gmail. I looked around to see if I could
subscribe to that folder on my iPhone, but I didn't find anything right
away. Maybe there's a way to unsubscribe from that folder and then you
wouldn't see it on your iPhone.

The All Mail folder is just a listing of every message you have in every
folder. Any message with any label is going to be seen in your All Mail
folder. It's not a copy of another message. Remember in Gmail, folders
are just labels, so you don't have duplicates of the same message no
matter how many folders it shows up in.

If you could move a message from your All Mail folder to your Trash
folder then it would still appear in your All Mail folder since it's in
your Trash folder. If you want messages to be deleted automatically from
your All Mail folder than move that message into your Trash folder. If
that's the only label the message has then it'll be deleted after 30 or
60 days. I don't remember what the time out period is.

tried double tap and hold. I've tried looking on several screens with the
item chooser just in case I was being a clutz and skipping over it, but to no
 avail.

 What am I missing?

Re: gmail account

2012-08-14 Thread Elizabeth Campbell
Hello all,
I found some articles discussing an issue affecting some gmail users with IOS
devices getting error messages such as the imap server is not responding. Make
sure all account settings are correct.
Google is aware of the problem, and in the meantime, a work around involves
downloading the gmail app which I did.

All is now fine with my receiving and sending work email on my phone.

Yes, I have it set up with my Gmail account on my iPhone. I went to the
Gmail settings area on Google and have it set to use either Pop or IMap.

If I download mail on my phone, it will stay there to be downloaded again on
the computer. Since my computer is set up for pop3 if I download the

Gmail Account Not Retrieving Mail

2012-07-13 Thread Eileen Misrahi
Hello List,

I hope someone on this list can give me some ideas of where to trouble shoot.
This is the second time this has occurred and the way II fixed was to do a
restore on the phone by pressing the home and power keys simutaneously. I have
2 email accounts on the phone, with the Gmail one the default. The second one
is hosted by Gmail, so it uses the same settings. When I go to open the Gmail
accoount, in the status line it states, 'Network Connection In Progress.' It
hang like this for a minute or two and then I get an error message stating
'Can't get mail. The mail server imap.gmail. com ccan't be found. Verify your
settings in mail...' Since this is the second time this has occurred, all the
settings for this account and the other one have been checked. AAlso, i can
retrieve my mail with the second account. What am I missing and what do I need
to check to fix this? Sorry for this long post. but II needed to explain the
situation. Please advise.

Thanks in advance.

Best,
Eileen
