I've even cleaned my SE with a damp cloth. I have to wipe makeup off the thing all day long. I also find my touch screen on iPhone XS becoming unresponsive at random moments using iOS 12.0.1 - and my sighted wife reported the same problem on her iPhone X yesterday. So, it cannot just be a voiceover issue but might just be an iOS 12 bug? Re: iPhone 7 screen intermittently seems to go unresponsive
Hi Debbie Yes, the problem is as you described. I find that the problem seems to mostly occur when I’m multi-tasking & swipe between apps frequently. It is hard to pinpoint the exact cause because it occurs randomly. Closing the app in which the problem occurred at the time & removing it from the app switcher, then relaunching the app fixes the problem. It’s a pain to have to do this to solve the problem. Re: iPhone 7 screen intermittently seems to go unresponsive
Unlike some others on the list who are seeing the dead screen issue, I never lose speech. VO speaks every icon and action as it should. I also here the appropriate sounds. But aside from that nothing happens. Tapping and flicking and other gestures have no effect until I kill the currently active app either with the home button or the app switcher. Interestingly, I never see this problem on any of the home screens, only when inside an app. Also, the problem is not exclusive to third party apps. I see it just as often in apps like mail, music and message. Kinm On 10/17/18, Tom Lange wrote: > I experienced this behavior on my iPhone 7 even before updating to IOS 12. RE: iPhone 7 screen intermittently seems to go unresponsive
Have you made sure to wash your iPhone screen? I know this may sound silly, but often a ditry screen can have strange consequences. Just use a damp cloth and give it a good wipe, it doesn't have to be dripping wet, but you don't have to be that careful either since the iPhone 7 and 8 are more or less waterproof. I have a 6S Plus and I usually hold it upside down so no water gets in around the home button or the cut up by the earpiece. A week or so ago I have my iPhone sitting at the side of the sink while I was washing my hands and that particular sink at my store doesn't drain super fast so there was water in the bottom and it was running and I accidently knocked the iPhone off the edge. Granted I grabbed it as soon as it fell in, ut it was completely lying in the water with water streaming on top. I have it in a fairly tight case and I instantly gave it a good shake, took the case off and dried it off. At first the speaker sounded a bit funny, sort of like on my Apple Watch after a swim in the pool, but after a bit it was fine and the phone suffered no ill health because of it's dunking. As I said this is a 6S Plus which is not nearly as water resistant as the 7 or 8 and of course the new phones this year are all but waterproof. Re: iPhone 7 screen intermittently seems to go unresponsive
I experienced this behavior on my iPhone 7 even before updating to IOS 12. I have since upgraded to an iPhone 8 and installed IOS 12.0.1 and I still see this occasional unresponsiveness and/or acting like I’m stuck in the rotor with no speech. So this definitely isn’t an iPhone 7 issue. When that happens, killing the offending app in the app switcher and restarting it or shutting down and restarting VO usually helps. Needless to say, it’s a pain in the keester to have to do that. Very disruptive. > On Oct 17, 2018, at 4:29 AM, Debby wrote: > > Hello All, > > Now I think I may know what everyone is talking about. RE: iPhone 7 screen intermittently seems to go unresponsive
Hello All, Now I think I may know what everyone is talking about. Occasionally I have noticed I think while flicking that the phone acts like it is not on a control, there is no voice output and what I hear is a sound as though I am stuck in the rotor. Is that the kind of stuff that is happening to others? I thought it was operator error of some sort. Also, I seem to have a slightly dead spot on the lower left side of my iPhone 8 screen. In that corner sometimes when I triple tap it is interpreted as a double tap. I do not have a screen protector on. Thanks for any feedback! I'm not certain if I would describe it as the screen being unresponsive, so much as I would say that VoiceOver simply drops out. For example, when this happens, one can still scroll from screen-to-screen but without any audio feedback. So, for a totally blind person, this would seem as though the screen / device was unresponsive. I have resolved the problem by (1) simply pressing the Home button; (2) unplugging and then reinserting my Earpods into the Lightening port, when this occurs while they are in use; or (3) simply opening another app. Mark From: 'Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.' via VIPhone [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] Sent: Tuesday, October 16, 2018 12:09 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: iPhone 7 screen intermittently seems to go unresponsive Hi, My iPhone 7 is nearing the end of its Apple Care coverage, so I’m asking opinions on this matter. For several weeks now, my screen becomes unresponsive at times, not responding to gestures such as double taps, etc. I can generally get it working again by turning off and then back on again Voiceover. Is this something I should get checked out by Apple, or just one of the ways iPhones sometimes act? Thanks in advance for any advice. Re: iPhone 7 screen intermittently seems to go unresponsive
I don’t think it’s your phone, or your screen protector. I have noticed this same thing since upgraded to iOS 12, however it is very unpredictable. I can’t reproduce reliably. It happens most often in the mail app. And the solution for me has been to take the app out of the app switcher and then restart it. I know this started with iOS 12. But since it’s so hard to reliably reproduce, I’m not sure what to tell Apple. I can go for days and not have a problem. Then I might have it twice within the space of a single day. RE: iPhone 7 screen intermittently seems to go unresponsive
Hi Keith, Do you have a screen protector on? If it is one of those that is connected to a case, I would take it apart and make sure there isn't gunk between the screen protector and the screen of the phone. Good luck! What I do is either press the home button then open another app or go into the app switcher, remove the troublesome app then relaunch. Both methods will get things going again. It's not a solution, but it's an ok work-around until Apple issues a fix.
