It's very accessible. The only thing that might throw you off is that 'C H" is in front of each station to indicate channel. On 5/7/2023 4:25 AM, Steve Cook wrote: Hi Mark, Yes the app is accessible! Re: Is The Sirius XM App for iOS VoiceOver Accessible?
Jessica, Open the SiriusXM app on your iDevice, make sure Discover is selected at the far left of the bottomline toolbar, place focus near the top of the screen until you hear All channels and double tap. You will have a list of all channels in the signed on account and VoiceOver should speak each of them. While VoiceOver speaks the abbreviated ch as chapter instead of channel, you'll quickly get used to that. With my settings, VoiceOver speaks the artist name and track title of what is currently playing on the channel with focus but the name of the channel is also spoken after the artist and title. Good luck. Alan Lemly Sent from my iPhone > On May 5, 2023, at 10:04 AM, Jessica Barr wrote: > > How do you get VoiceOver to read the actual channel names? Re: Is The Sirius XM App for iOS VoiceOver Accessible?
For an echo, you can just use the channel number to when asking to play a SiriusXM channel. For example, to play channel 8, just say, A Lady, play SiriusXM channel 8. I just tested this on mine to make sure it still worked. Now the channel name will also work, but not necessary. Plus, I like using the channel number better. It understands what you want better and you will have less trouble. Chris > On May 5, 2023, at 11:04 AM, Jessica Barr wrote: > > How do you get VoiceOver to read the actual channel names? RE: Is The Sirius XM App for iOS VoiceOver Accessible?
How do you get VoiceOver to read the actual channel names? I mainly stream SiriusXM on my Echo Studio. I know the names of a lot of the main channels because my boyfriend has been a subscriber for years and knows a lot about what they offer, but there are extra channels out there that I can't ask her to play because I don't know what their names are. VoiceOver just reads a very brief description of each channel. - Original Message - From: viphone@googlegroups.com Date: Thursday, May 04, 2023 07:23 PM To: Digest recipients Subject: Digest for viphone@googlegroups.com - 21 updates in 6 topics = Today's topic summary = Group: viphone@googlegroups.com Url: https://groups.google.com/forum/?utm_source=digest_medium=email#!forum/viphone/topics - Voice over commands [1 Update] http://groups.google.com/group/viphone/t/e77bf86788bf024d - Zello [3 Updates] http://groups.google.com/group/viphone/t/22f3ae9547cb821d - Alexa on wifi at different location [2 Updates] http://groups.google.com/group/viphone/t/46ec415850c04d28 - Is The Sirius XM App for iOS VoiceOver Accessible? Re: Is The Sirius XM App for iOS Voiceover Accessible?
Yes, the StarPlayerX app offers a simplified experience when using Sirius XM. However, there are a lot of features in the Sirius XM app which are not in StarPlayerX, such as the ability to pause and resume ones listening, or to "Go Live," on a channel which is broadcasting live content. I have found a few unlabeled buttons in Sivius but one can relabel those to be more understandable. I do wish there was an easier way to edit my favorites, rather than deleting and re-creating them all over again, like I did a few years ago. On the whole, the Sirius app is very accessible, though I did have a learning curve when I started using it in 2020. Your mileage may vary. Good luck, Wayne PS: Some of my fave channels include 25, Classic Rewind; 38, Ozzie's Boneyard, which is classic hard rock; the Big 40 countdown each Friday from the 80's on 8, and more!! RE: Is The Sirius XM App for iOS Voiceover Accessible?
I have the app. It is accessible. However, I will say that there does not appear to be a good search feature on the app. For example, I can not type in a channel in an edit field. Maybe it does exist. But if that feature does exist. Voice-o er does not read it. However, the app is pretty accessible. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of M. Re: Sirius xm app
Hi Mary! Well I'll tell you what caused me to get rid of XM in the first place. At the time of the merger, those guys were DESPERATE for bucks! So they said you give us five hundred dollars, we'll give you a life time member ship. Free XM till the day you die! Sounded OK to me so I ponied up. Enjoyed it for about three years till they came to us and said, uhm lookee here yall! So that really ticked me off. But If as wanna subscribe monthly at least from my researches the internet! stand alone plan it would be 15 bucks a month. That's just using the app you know? Doesn't include any type of receiver. Your phone is that. Anyway these alternative apps I spoke about in my previous e-mail all have a free plan. In fact the one' for tune in is GREAT you've just gotta put up with some advertising. They have the pro plan which is ten dollars flat. pay no more than that. I mean that's all, and you have tune in radio pro. Then they have a premium plan which is 9.95 a month. You get some things that have had to go hide behind the subscription pay wall due to the most recent internet radio kurfuffle! I do have that right now but thinking about nixing it. Gotta save some money! But I have fooled around with these internet radio apps quite a lot in fact I believe I've tried them all at one time or another, so if there's anything about it you'd like to know. Do please ask. Re: Sirius xm app
I have some kind of long-term deal with XM, because I was a member forever and ever and ever. So I do have to pay every year, but it's not $15 a month. I pay a yearly fee, but really when I listen to it for is the sports. And tuning is good for sports. And their labeling and organization has gotten better. It used to be kind of a pain to find stuff. I got kind of disgusted with them when I lost a whole bunch of favorites a while back. I never did get that sorted out. But the basic app is fine. So maybe I will drop XM the next time my subscription comes up, but that's almost a year away. I do like the fact that you get baseball and football. Re: Sirius xm app question
It is channel 751. - Original Message - From: "Donald L. Roberts" <donald.robert...@gmail.com> To: <viphone@googlegroups.com> Sent: Tuesday, October 06, 2015 10:12 AM Subject: Sirius xm app question Is there any way using the latest Sirius Xm app and IOS 9.02 to enter a channel number directly? I like to listen to "Escape," which is channel 69 on the XM receiver. When I listen to that channel on my iPhone, i use the Radium app and search for the word "escape." However, for some reason, word searching for escape on the Radium app no longer yields the correct channel. So I called Sirius Xm support and found that the channel number I want is 751. But I need to find a way to enter that number directly into the Sirius IOS app. Thus the question, can this be done? Thanks for ideas. Re: Sirius xm app question
If you go to all channels, there is a search field where you type in "escape". Hope this helps. - Original Message - From: "Donald L. Re: Sirius XM app
On my iPhone, with the new version of the XM app, you can't flick left and right for the categories. They are in a vertical row on the center of the screen--I have to doouble-tap one. If not all the categories are showing, do a three-finger flick-up for the next page. - Original Message - From: Juliette Swiler To: viphone@googlegroups.com Cc: Juliette Swiler Sent: Friday, May 22, 2015 11:18 PM Subject: Sirius XM app So I finally thought I was really getting used to the new SiriusXM app with VoiceOver. Hi. When you click on subscriptions, you first need to select to log in to Sirius XM. Then once you do that, click on the Find More Stations button and type in the Sirius XM station you want to listen to. Re: Sirius XM app
Radium is a great app for free, but not worth $10, in my opinion. This is because when I wrote to them, and ask if they could implement folders, they said they were not planning to do it. If the program had folders, similar to ooTunes then I would probably buy it for my Mac. As it turns out, after nearly 8 months of Mac use, and very heavy Mac use at that, I'm discovering that I truly love the PC. Re: Sirius XM app
Could you give me a quick refresher on how to use radium? I downloaded it the other day, but whenever I click on subscriptions, does not show me my channels or anything. Thank you very much in advance. I have been finding, that if you select search fill-in we could count down for example in the search box then use your rotor gesture set to headings and flick up or down you can get through the content very efficiently. I have also been in contact with this company regarding the voiceover issues. What you can do, is go under the tab that says me, then select send feedback and it will know it's coming from your account. Just send him a brief note as I did letting them know that voiceover is not working well with this app. I have noticed a lot of crashing myself. Re: New sirius Xm app
I don't like the new one quite as well yet. I played with it on my wife's phone, but kept mine at the previous version for now. When you bring up the channels, and this applies with categories as well, they are displayed in a vertical row in the center of the screen. You can double-tap to open up that category or to start playing a channel. In this respect, the new app is nice because it starts playing immediately and it doesn't appear to have the lag time the older version had. The other point is you get the channel names, whereas on the older version I think you got the name of the song and you had to guess at the channel. But, I had a couple instances when trying to flick up to bring the next page of channels into view when the app crashed. You can't have categories on the phone and navigate by heading to look at the channels in each category. And, you can't flick to get to the channels, you have to touch the one you want in the vertical row. Re: New sirius xm app
Hi Gale. I've mentioned this app several times, but you could try Radium for the iPhone. It's free and much more accessible than the native Sirius XM app if you don't necessarily need the on demand stuff or my SXM. I use it all the time on both my Mac and iPhone 5S without any problems. Olympic hockey and Sirius XM App Revisited
Hi, all, The last couple of games haven't been available, even when I tap on the headline that indicates the channel it's on. I've also tried pressing go to live but it has definitely not been available in the live stream. There are replays of other sports-talk shows instead. Am I missing something on the app, or did something happen with the coverage rights? I'm really hoping to hear the gold medal game tomorrow. I'm not happy about missing these other games. :( Thanks, teresa We're made of star stuff.--Carl Sagan -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. Re: Sirius/XM app.
No, Daniel. I've posted several times on how to use it, look in the archives or send me a message directly and I can post to you off-list. Not only is the app decently accessible, after you relabel the buttons on the dock area, but so is MySxm which allows you to customize a lot of the music channels. You can then choose to listen to a customized version of the channel, or the regular live broadcast. In addition, you can listen to the On-Demand shows. Channel Names in the Sirius XM App
Hi everyone, I took a look at the Sirius XM app today, and it is a little better than when I last checked it out. One question I have is that when I choose a category, such as news and politics, I can see what shows are on, but I am not getting the name of the channel. Is that how it is, or is there a way around it? Thanks, Jonathan -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. Updated Sirius XM App seems to have a few accessibility improvements
An updated version of the Sirius Xm app came out today, and though accessibility is still far from perfect, this version does seem much better. When using VO, you can now see, and double tap the buttons along the bottom of the screen. The buttons are not labeled, but it looks like you can use the one on the bottom left to get out of a channel and back to the category listings. a really interesting new feature is that some, if not all shows will apparently be available on demand. I think I was able to access this feature by pressing the button second from the right on the bottom row. This brought up show listings, but all the shows I was interested in were listed as upcoming only, and the on demand button was dimmed. I'm not sure if I'm missing any part of this feature's UI, but from what I can tell, if a show were indeed available on demand, I would have been able to access it. it also looks like you can store a show for offline listening. There is now a start button next to the go to live button when listening to a show. I assume this starts recording? At any rate, if anyone else discovers anything more of interest, please share it in this thread. Thanks, Al -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. I'm not sure if I'm missing any part of this feature's UI, but from what I can tell, if a show were indeed available on demand, I would have been able to access it. it also looks like you can store a show for offline listening. There is now a start button next to the go to live button when listening to a show. I assume this starts recording? Re: Updated Sirius XM App seems to have a few accessibility improvements
Hi Al, Thanks very much for posting this. Although I check for updates each day at least twice, I had not gotten this app update yet. Your instructions worked very well for me. I may decide to label the buttons that require it, but even without that, the app is much easier to use. Re: Update on Sirius XM App
Hi all I've been using this app really well for a while. imagine a doc on the bottom of the screen. From left to right it goes catigories channels favorites program schedule and settings. So turn vo off and if you hit the bottom far left you will see catigories. turn vo on choose the catigory you like and boom there you go. Another helpful tip I discovered last night turn vo off and choose settings far right. Choose app settings and turn off the setting that refers to player in tray. This will then allow you to stay in the channel inue when you select a channel so basically lessening the times you have to turn off vo. Finally on radioclassics that start from beginning feature is sweet, because you can go back in time five hours and skip adds it's like tevo for radio. Re: Update on Sirius XM App
Hello, The rotor is so integral to the functioning of VO that I would very strongly encourage you to go in to settings, general, voice over, practice area and really work at figuring out how to do the rotor consistently without errors and with one hand. The two difficult gestures for me were the pinch and the scrub gestures, so I went in to the practice area and practiced both gestures for several hours until I could do them 100% of the time without error. It's the continuous practice which teaches us and sets the knowledge so it becomes automatic. Besides, doing such practice helps you figure out other interesting things. For instance, I learned from the practice area that when performing a four finger tap, only three of the fingers need to be on the half of the iOS device that you wish to move to. Also, for two and three finger swipes, your fingers do not need to be in a row. The only thing that is important is that there is a little separation, and that all the fingers are moving in the same direction. The practice area is a very handy tool which everyone should take complete advantage of whenever it seems like the iOS device is not following your directions. The device will always do exactly as you instruct it. Learn how to instruct it properly. BlankLes, I don't know how long ago you tried the older app. At that time, the Home button wasn't labeled and you couldn't get it to activate with Voiceover turned on. It was probably a half inch toward the upper left of the home button. You had to turn VO off and then activate it.
