It's very accessible. The only thing that might throw you off is that 'C
H" is in front of each station to indicate channel.

Hello Everyone,

Is the Sirius XM app for iOS currently VoiceOver accessible?

I was thinking about subscribing to the service but then remembered that there
may be problems so wanted to do a quick gravity check, here before taking the
plunge.

All replies greatly appreciated.

Re: Is The Sirius XM App for iOS VoiceOver Accessible?

2023-05-05 Thread Alan Lemly
Jessica,

Open the SiriusXM app on your iDevice, make sure Discover is selected at the
far left of the bottomline toolbar, place focus near the top of the screen
until you hear All channels and double tap. You will have a list of all
channels in the signed on account and VoiceOver should speak each of them.
While VoiceOver speaks the abbreviated ch as chapter instead of channel, you'll
quickly get used to that. With my settings, VoiceOver speaks the artist name
and track title of what is currently playing on the channel with focus but the
name of the channel is also spoken after the artist and title.

Good luck.

Re: Is The Sirius XM App for iOS VoiceOver Accessible?

2023-05-05 Thread Chris Chaffin

For an echo, you can just use the channel number to when asking to play a
SiriusXM channel.
For example, to play channel 8, just say, A Lady, play SiriusXM channel 8.
I just tested this on mine to make sure it still worked. Now the channel name
will also work, but not necessary. Plus, I like using the channel number
better. It understands what you want better and you will have less trouble.

RE: Is The Sirius XM App for iOS VoiceOver Accessible?

2023-05-05 Thread Jessica Barr
How do you get VoiceOver to read the actual channel names? I mainly stream
SiriusXM on my Echo Studio. I know the names of a lot of the main channels
because my boyfriend has been a subscriber for years and knows a lot about what
they offer, but there are extra channels out there that I can't ask her to play
because I don't know what their names are. VoiceOver just reads a very brief
description of each channel.

Hello.
A tip. Go to ios settings, accessibility, voice over, commands, all commands,
choose a command section, touch or keyboard works, but more commands on
keyboard. Here comes the tip: if the voice over says the command is already in
use, don't press cancel, press apply/ok/confirm or whatever the button
describe in english, then do the same thing one more time e.g choose a command
with vo down on the keyboard and whatever key combination you like, i mean one
letter or one number. It just works.
The importance is to , if you get the error message (already in use), to hit
apply/ok/confirm button the first time anyway, then make the command one more
time. It looks like you can have more than one command at the same time, i
mean, more than one key combination for the same command at the same time. You
can also easy delete the old key combination by using the rotor and up arrow.
Many thanks

Thanks. I saw all that last night. Odd thing is that voice over never tells me

2023-05-04 Thread Wayne Merritt
Yes, the StarPlayerX app offers a simplified experience when using Sirius XM.
However, there are a lot of features in the Sirius XM app which are not in
StarPlayerX, such as the ability to pause and resume ones listening, or to "Go
Live," on a channel which is broadcasting live content. I have found a few
unlabeled buttons in Sivius but one can relabel those to be more
understandable. I do wish there was an easier way to edit my favorites, rather
than deleting and re-creating them all over again, like I did a few years ago.
On the whole, the Sirius app is very accessible, though I did have a learning
curve when I started using it in 2020. Your mileage may vary.

Good luck,
Wayne

PS: Some of my fave channels include 25, Classic Rewind; 38, Ozzie's Boneyard,
which is classic hard rock; the Big 40 countdown each Friday from the 80's on
8, and more!!

Kevin, actually you can. You need to select the recently played items tab,

categories from within that search field.

StarPlayrX Is another iOS app that works with your SiriusXM account that you
might find more accessible. It contains a search option on its channels page.

RE: Is The Sirius XM App for iOS Voiceover Accessible?

2023-05-04 Thread kevinwassmer
I have the app. It is accessible. However, I will say that there does not
appear to be a good search feature on the app. For example, I can not type in a
channel in an edit field. Maybe it does exist. But if that feature does exist.
Voice-o er does not read it. However, the app is pretty accessible.

Mark, all others have definitely guy did you and there are right steps, I will
tell you the website is kind of a pain to make an account. It's doable but it
is very challenging. It may have changed since 2018. But definitely take a look
at that for sure.

place. At the time of the merger, those guys were DESPERATE for
bucks! So they said you give us five hundred dollars, we'll give
you a life time member ship. Free XM till the day you die!
Sounded OK to me so I ponied up. Enjoyed it for about three
years till they came to us and said, uhm lookee here yall! So
that really ticked me off. But If as wanna subscribe monthly at
least from my researches the internet! stand alone plan it would
be 15 bucks a month. That's just using the app you know?
Doesn't include any type of receiver. Your phone is that.
Anyway these alternative apps I spoke about in my previous
e-mail all have a free plan. In fact the one' for tune in is
GREAT you've just gotta put up with some advertising. They have
the pro plan which is ten dollars flat. pay no more than that.
I mean that's all, and you have tune in radio pro. Then they
have a premium plan which is 9.95 a month. You get some things
that have had to go hide behind the subscription pay wall due to
the most recent internet radio kurfuffle! I do have that right
now but thinking about nixing it. Gotta save some money! But I
have fooled around with these internet radio apps quite a lot in
fact I believe I've tried them all at one time or another, so if
there's anything about it you'd like to know. Do please ask.

Warm regards
Jack and Becky

Re: Sirius xm app

2017-01-01 Thread Mary Otten
I have some kind of long-term deal with XM, because I was a member forever and
ever and ever. So I do have to pay every year, but it's not $15 a month. I pay
a yearly fee, but really when I listen to it for is the sports. And tuning is
good for sports. And their labeling and organization has gotten better. It used
to be kind of a pain to find stuff. I got kind of disgusted with them when I
lost a whole bunch of favorites a while back. I never did get that sorted out.
But the basic app is fine. So maybe I will drop XM the next time my
subscription comes up, but that's almost a year away. I do like the fact that
you get baseball and football.

hi there Mary.

some one may have mentioned this already, but in case not, why not ,give tune
in radio pro a go or iheart or simple radio. much better deals out there than
xm is basically what i am saying. I have not been at ALL impressed with either
xm or their customer support for quite a while now even since before they
merged. don't get enough bang for the buck i don't think. the internet plan

Sirius xm app

2017-01-01 Thread Mary Otten
I haven't tried the series XM app in a very long time. But knowing that radium,
while it still works, is on borrowed time, I decided to give it another shot.
It seems to be more accessible than it used to be, but it still flaky. I've had
it frees up on me a few times, and I can't get the search to work. The keyboard
comes up for maybe have a second, then it goes away and the app freezes. Unless
I am missing something, it seems that not all of the stations are listed out
under the separate categories. For instance, if you go to all stations, there
is a list of I think it was 278 or maybe 378 rows. That is presumably all
available stations. Then let's say you choose sports. You get pro baseball,
football, basketball, and hockey. Then there is a button for play-by-play,
which brings up a station that does nothing. There is nothing for the college
channels. And those channels are way down at the end of the great long list of
all stations. So if you want to find a college game good luck. If there's a
better way to do that, I would love to know it. Also, while I was just messing
around, I checked out the "religion" category, and found a few stations. When I
was scrolling through trying to get to the college basketball area way at the
end, I noticed some other religious stations that were not in the listing that
I saw under religion. Not that I particularly want to listen to those, but that
makes me think that the only way to really know what's available is to
systematically go through every single station. Am I missing something?
Especially with respect to not seeing all of the stations that should be in a
certain category?

interface would be even more kludgy than it already is.

Is there any way using the latest Sirius Xm app and IOS 9.02 to enter a
channel number directly?

I like to listen to "Escape," which is channel 69 on the XM receiver.
When I listen to that channel on my iPhone, i use the Radium app and
search for the word "escape." However, for some reason, word searching
for escape on the Radium app no longer yields the correct channel. So I
called Sirius Xm support and found that the channel number I want is 751.
But I need to find a way to enter that number directly into the Sirius IOS
app. Thus the question, can this be done?

Thanks for ideas.

Re: Sirius XM app

2015-05-24 Thread Steve
On my iPhone, with the new version of the XM app, you can't flick left and
right for the categories. They are in a vertical row on the center of the
screen--I have to doouble-tap one. If not all the categories are showing, do a
three-finger flick-up for the next page.

So I finally thought I was really getting used to the new SiriusXM app with
VoiceOver. However, within the past few days, when I tap channels, and try to
flick left and right through the categories, VoiceOver loses focus. Also, if I
click the button next to a channel, to ad it to favorites, the app crashes. Any
thoughts or workarounds? Thanks.

for example in the search box then use your rotor gesture set to headings

I have also been in contact with this company regarding the voiceover
issues. What you can do, is go under the tab that says me, then select send
feedback and it will know it's coming from your account. Just send him a
brief note as I did letting them know that voiceover is not working well
with this app. I have noticed a lot of crashing myself.

Re: Sirius XM app

2015-05-23 Thread Michael Malver
Radium is a great app for free, but not worth $10, in my opinion. This is
because when I wrote to them, and ask if they could implement folders, they
said they were not planning to do it. If the program had folders, similar to
ooTunes then I would probably buy it for my Mac. As it turns out, after nearly
8 months of Mac use, and very heavy Mac use at that, I'm discovering that I
truly love the PC.

Re: New sirius Xm app

2015-03-22 Thread Steve
I don't like the new one quite as well yet. I played with it on my wife's
phone, but kept mine at the previous version for now.

When you bring up the channels, and this applies with categories as well, they
are displayed in a vertical row in the center of the screen. You can
double-tap to open up that category or to start playing a channel. In this
respect, the new app is nice because it starts playing immediately and it
doesn't appear to have the lag time the older version had. The other point is
you get the channel names, whereas on the older version I think you got the
name of the song and you had to guess at the channel.

But, I had a couple instances when trying to flick up to bring the next page of
channels into view when the app crashed.

You can't have categories on the phone and navigate by heading to look at the
channels in each category. And, you can't flick to get to the channels, you
have to touch the one you want in the vertical row.

Hi Everyone:
I am a huge SiriusXM fan and love this new app.
On the bottom there should be several buttons which are labeled.
The first is channels where you can select channels to listen to and
pick from categories.
When you are on the channels screen there is also a button for on-demand too.
Then there is the recent button which I believe tells you what you've

I love this new app.
It's different than the old one but I think a lot better.
The only little problem I have run into is when you select the

Also when you select favorites and press the channels button it's hard
to swipe through your favorite channels.
But, when you select favorites and shows you can swipe through those fine.
Other than that little issue with swiping through the channels it's
totally accessible to me.
Hope that helps!

2015-03-21 Thread Kerri Kosten
Hi Everyone:
I am a huge SiriusXM fan and love this new app.
On the bottom there should be several buttons which are labeled.
The first is channels where you can select channels to listen to and
pick from categories.
When you are on the channels screen there is also a button for on-demand too.
Then there is the recent button which I believe tells you what you've
most recently been listening to.
Then there is the search button where you can search for a channel or show.
Then there is the me which gives you settings and such.
Then there is favorites and on the favorites you can choose between

Hello folks, I'm sorry about my last post. Somethimes my keyboard acts up

that was the last thing I wanted to deal with this morning. My favorites
according to the ap have to be added again. Is their an alternative. I've
tried the Music Dock, and it doesn't seem to be working. Thanks in advance

Re: New sirius xm app

2015-03-20 Thread BBS
Hi Gale. I've mentioned this app several times, but you could try Radium for
the iPhone. It's free and much more accessible than the native Sirius XM app if
you don't necessarily need the on demand stuff or my SXM. I use it all the time
on both my Mac and iPhone 5S without any problems.

Can anybody with an iPhone for S tell me if this XM app is accessible? I ask
because Todd tried to use it and it looked inaccessible to him.

Olympic hockey and Sirius XM App Revisited

2014-02-22 Thread Teresa Cochran
Hi, all,

The last couple of games haven't been available, even when I tap on the
headline that indicates the channel it's on. I've also tried pressing go to
live but it has definitely not been available in the live stream. There are
replays of other sports-talk shows instead. Am I missing something on the app,
or did something happen with the coverage rights? I'm really hoping to hear the
gold medal game tomorrow. I'm not happy about missing these other games. :(

Thanks,
teresa

No, they haven't been available to me for three days with the app. I suppose I

Sirius/XM app.

2013-08-17 Thread Daniel Miller
Hello,

Is the sirius/XM app still inaccessible? I know that people have said
previously it was, but wasn’t sure if they’ve made any changes to make it more
useful with VoiceOver.
I have the ability to listen to it on my phone and/or computer for 3 months and
I want to take as much advantage of it as I can.

Re: Sirius/XM app.

2013-08-17 Thread Steve

No, Daniel.

I've posted several times on how to use it, look in the archives or send me
a message directly and I can post to you off-list.

Not only is the app decently accessible, after you relabel the buttons on
the dock area, but so is MySxm which allows you to customize a lot of the
music channels. You can then choose to listen to a customized version of
the channel, or the regular live broadcast. In addition, you can listen to
the On-Demand shows.

well, I know there is one but I don't know if it is accessible, using the

the satellite itself. There are quite a few stations that are

I have to add my $.02 in to this thread. First off, yes, the app is
fairly accessible but one of my major gripes about the app is the fact
that if you leave your iPhone idol after 90 minutes of listening, the
app will time out and you'll have to double tap the keep listening
button every 90 minutes. Unless you have a jailbroken iPhone because
someone in an earlier post has said that you can have continuous
playing if you do this, I'd suggest buying an actual receiver like I
did and pay for that instead. Just my $.02.

Channel Names in the Sirius XM App

2012-09-03 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Hi everyone, I took a look at the Sirius XM app today, and it is a little
better than when I last checked it out.

One question I have is that when I choose a category, such as news and
politics, I can see what shows are on, but I am not getting the name of the
channel. Is that how it is, or is there a way around it?

Thanks,

Using voiceover, and a lot of trial and error, you can stop a playing
station with the pause button which is labeled and recognized with vo.
Then using vo tap the action button, which includes an option to exit
current channel.
then you get into the headache of using the unlabeled buttons to try
and find a list of stations, shows, or catagories.
I have been able to do this, but I'm never quite sure what I'm going
to get each time I try.
Can't seem to follow the same path to success with the unlabeled buttons.
This app is better, but needs improvement.

Updated Sirius XM App seems to have a few accessibility improvements

2012-08-03 Thread Al Puzzuoli
An updated version of the Sirius Xm app came out today, and though
accessibility is still far from perfect, this version does seem much
better. When using VO, you can now see, and double tap the buttons along
the bottom of the screen. The buttons are not labeled, but it looks like
you can use the one on the bottom left to get out of a channel and back
to the category listings.
a really interesting new feature is that some, if not all shows will
apparently be available on demand. I think I was able to access this
feature by pressing the button second from the right on the bottom row.
This brought up show listings, but all the shows I was interested in
were listed as upcoming only, and the on demand button was dimmed. I'm
not sure if I'm missing any part of this feature's UI, but from what I
can tell, if a show were indeed available on demand, I would have been
able to access it.
it also looks like you can store a show for offline listening. There
is now a start button next to the go to live button when listening to
a show. I assume this starts recording?
At any rate, if anyone else discovers anything more of interest, please
share it in this thread.

Thanks,

Al

I click the first unlabeled button, but the category list doesn't come up.
I did get the category list to come up, but I can't figure out exactly which

improvements

Thanks,

Al

Hi Al,

Thanks very much for posting this. Although I check for updates each day at
least twice, I had not gotten this app update yet. Your instructions worked
very well for me. I may decide to label the buttons that require it, but even
without that, the app is much easier to use.

Hi all
I've been using this app really well for a while. imagine a doc on the
bottom of the screen. From left to right it goes catigories channels
favorites program schedule and settings. So turn vo off and if you hit
the bottom far left you will see catigories. turn vo on choose the
catigory you like and boom there you go. Another helpful tip I
discovered last night turn vo off and choose settings far right.
Choose app settings and turn off the setting that refers to player in
tray. This will then allow you to stay in the channel inue when you
select a channel so basically lessening the times you have to turn off
vo. Finally on radioclassics that start from beginning feature is
sweet, because you can go back in time five hours and skip adds it's
like tevo for radio.

Re: Update on Sirius XM App

2012-04-19 Thread David Chittenden
Hello,

The rotor is so integral to the functioning of VO that I would very strongly
encourage you to go in to settings, general, voice over, practice area and
really work at figuring out how to do the rotor consistently without errors and
with one hand.

The two difficult gestures for me were the pinch and the scrub gestures, so I
went in to the practice area and practiced both gestures for several hours
until I could do them 100% of the time without error. It's the continuous
practice which teaches us and sets the knowledge so it becomes automatic.

Besides, doing such practice helps you figure out other interesting things. For
instance, I learned from the practice area that when performing a four finger
tap, only three of the fingers need to be on the half of the iOS device that
you wish to move to. Also, for two and three finger swipes, your fingers do not
need to be in a row. The only thing that is important is that there is a little
separation, and that all the fingers are moving in the same direction.

The practice area is a very handy tool which everyone should take complete
advantage of whenever it seems like the iOS device is not following your
directions. The device will always do exactly as you instruct it. Learn how to
instruct it properly.

 Hi Joseph,

Thanks for providing this information, it's very helpful. It also helps if
one sets the rotor to headings so one can skim through the category list. I
find changing the rotor to be the toughest task to perform. It's really hit
and miss, I just cannot change the options in the rotor consistently yet.

 Hi all
I've been using this app really well for a while. imagine a doc on the
bottom of the screen.

 Hello,

 to switch-exit stations, you simply,
 first, turn voice voice off
then, place your finger slightly above the home button and swipe up
 with one finger
 Finally, turn voice over on
results, you have exited the station
Now, you can listen to the station of your choice

While access to this app has improved when initially launched, it wold

 had
originally hoped access had improved, as the app now has the ability to
 play
the classic radio channel, but the inability to exit a channel still
 renders
this app an accessibility nightmare. MusicDoc has not been updated to
provide access to this content. The MLB games are also available through
Sirius XM, I did find the Mets Braves game easily, but could not easily
 exit
that channel to find something else. Too bad.

Sirius Xm App

2012-04-17 Thread Steve
BlankLes,

I don't know how long ago you tried the older app. At that time, the Home
button wasn't labeled and you couldn't get it to activate with Voiceover
turned on. It was probably a half inch toward the upper left of the home
button. You had to turn VO off and then activate it.
