I have also seen charging only USB cables (not lightning though); these came as a an included cable about 6 inches long for some device which required a USB charger, and I think the manufacturer saved a few pennies by creating this charging only cable, which I’m guessing did not include lines for data transmission. They frustrate me because I sometimes grab them by mistake, and then find my device won’t transfer data properly, until I recall that I owned a few of these charging only cables. RE: iPhone seems to have died during update
She did do the over the air update from the way it sounds. It may work 99% of the time, but there is always a chance something can go wrong for whatever reason and the update process gets corrupted. Actually, updating via iTunes is in my opinion a safer way to update, but then again that is just my opinion. However, if I update via iTunes I get much more feedback and I’m not left in the dark so to speak while the iPhone reboots. Some people get worried if it takes a while and especially with older devices it can take quite a while. It’s best to plug the iPhone in when you do an over the air update and once you agreed to everything and the iPhone reboots, just don’t touch it even if it sits there for 2 hours. If nothing happens after that long then I guess something did go wrong. Re: iPhone seems to have died during update
Hi, How to put your iPhone or iPad into recovery mode Turn Off your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad if it isn't off already. Press and hold down the On/Offbutton on the right side (iPhone 6 or later) or top (all other iPhones, iPods, and iPads) for 3 seconds. Swipe the slide to power offconfirmation slider to the right. Press and hold down the Homebutton on your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPhone. Plug your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad into your Mac or Windows PC and make sure iTunes is running. Release the Home button when you see the Connect to iTunes screen. At this point iTunes should display an alert saying it's detected an iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad in recovery mode, and will let you restore your device. Re: iPhone seems to have died during update
Is the phone displaying connect to iTunes on the screen? It sounds like your iPhone got corrupted during the process. Hopefully you have a iCloud or iTunes back up. Last resort, you will have to get the iPhone in recovery mode and use the iTunes player on the computer to bring it back to life. Re: iPhone seems to have died during update
Hi, We can most likely resolve the problem but you will loos all the data that is on the phone. Do you have an iCloud backup or a local one that you can restore too? Cheers, Ben. iPhone seems to have died during update
hi all, Thank you for the help If you get a duplicate duplicate of this I apologize. I looked in my sent messages and I did not see this one. The iPhone told me the update would begin in so many seconds, and then stopped. It never rebooted after that. I connected it to the computer and try to update through iTunes, which I do have the latest version of, but iTunes said that there was a problem updating the phone. I tried several times, but each time iTunes kept saying that it was downloading software for the update but then trying to start the update process over. If anyone can help I would really appreciate it. The iPhone is the only phone I have.
