Here is the version they are talking about. It is quite VoiceOver friendly.
If you set up a free Uversion account, your bookmarks and favorites will sync

Re: what are twitter lists?

2016-03-26 Thread Chris Chaffin
Hello Chris,

Twitter list is a good way of organizing who you follow on twitter. I mainly
use list and I love it.
For example, I have a list called news, and I have all of the different news
people and organizations that I follow associated with this list. So if I want
to get the latest news tweets, then I just go to this list.
I have another list called adaptive tech, and this is of coarse a list made up
of any person or company associated with adaptive technology. So when I want
to check out the recent tweets associated with adaptive tech, I just go to this
list.

So instead of having everything in one single big list, you have things divided
into different categories. This can also help in making sure that you do not
miss a tweet because it is way down in your big list, but would be closer to
the top if divided into categories.
Now how to make list and add people you follow to the list can vary depending
on what you use for a twitter client.
But I hope this has helped you understand a little more about twitter list.

Re: Accessible Bible Commentary?

2016-03-26 Thread Michael McKay
I'm not sure of the website name. It is an app on my iPhone. If you have an
iPhone or a Google store through Samsung phones they use the Google store it
should be free through either one of those. Just type in you version Bible, and
see what comes up let me know how you make it.

I hope this helps.

RE: Applepay In Denny's Canada?

2016-03-26 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Fazil,

Apple Pay is slow to make its way into Canada. At this point you can only use
Apple Pay if you have an American Express credit card, I believe that started
last November. There is talk of more banks to start supporting it. I am also
not sure as to how many merchants support it at this point even if you have an
American Express card. My understanding is that because here in Canada many
places already have tap terminals where you just have to tap your regular
chipped credit card, it will be much easier and maybe anybody who has a
terminal that supports tap will also support Apple Pay, not sure about his.

For the time being I’d plan to just pay whichever way you normally do with
either your debit card or credit card, I am sure Denny’s has tap terminals so
you can probably just tap your credit card anyways.

Regards,

Sieghard

if i wish to find a contact by doing a 1 finger flick up or down, to go to
find the contact, the A to Z is no longer accurate.

Subject: merits of updating

Hello all
I'm not sure I've seen much in the way of what this recent update has had to
offer. I believe Richard said some responses were snappier. I thought I'd
noticed that the first day after updating but that is no longer the case. I
have a lousy connection speed, and an old modem I am replacing though, and
the phone and computer both have been slow to do many things lately.
I notice a few things that I don't like that have changed with the
update, or let me say, that for my purposes, hold no interest whatsoever.
In Contacts under each name it now tells me that a photo is missing
for that contact. I don't intend to ever include photos so I liked it better
when I didn't have to hear that.
In podcasts I now have to swipe numerous times to get to a mark as
played place to get things out of the list. Before I could just swipe up and
find delete and get rid of that particular podcast without all the
additional swiping. I find any additional swiping as a new feature is
totally unnecessary, since what they offer can easily be done on the main
page of the podcast playing by hitting previous or next track.
Also when in podcasts, it keeps selecting "unplayed" after I've
selected my podcasts. It seems to reset each time I close then reopen the
app. I do not want to see all this unplayed list from all the podcasts I am
subscribed to and wish this was not happening. It appears at the top of the
page so I always have to deal with it or once more select my podcasts.
I'm not big on having to use anymore gestures than necessary. I
prefer less clutter.
One more picky thing is that I turned notifications off for the Mail
App since I get a lot of mail on the phone and don't need to hear about it
since I check it regularly. With notifications turned off it put a message
on the doc that said "no unread ..." Since I had to see or listen to that I
figured I might as well tell it to notify me since the message was
inaccuragte - I always have mail. Now that is a twisted logic on the part of
that particular setting.
Finally, this business of the voice being tinny and having to spend
hours trying to fix was really a drag. I finally resolved the problem by
first setting it to speak only phoenetically (not and not phonetically plus
characters) and eventually just turned it off altogether. I still sometimes
get a word pronounced very pourly as with a cheezy cheap old synthesized
screen reading voice. This never used to happen.
I read the list of improvements that was on the iphone when I went
to update. Sorry to say, if I hadn't felt like I was lagging behind,I would
not have bothered with the update.

Re: Bar Code Reader App??

2016-03-26 Thread Christopher Chaltain
A QR code is just a series of square dots arranged in a grid that
contains information based on a standard. They contain information on
whatever they're attached to. In my experience, they're frequently used
so you don't have to type in a long URL or some other information. For
example, I've seen QR codes on badges I've gotten attending a conference
where scanning that code would take you to the agenda for the
conference. You'll also see them on ads where scanning them will take
you to the web site for the product or the company.

You can google to get more information on QR codes, such as the
wikipedia site at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QR_code

I like Digit-Eyes the best.
The key is to place the camera against the object, start the scanning, and
slowly pull the phone
away about 4 to 8 inches. If you aren't on the bar code, you can slowly turn
the item about a
quarter of a turn and wait, or, start over.
There are lots of good tips on their web site for scanning tips.

Re: Making A Group List

2016-03-26 Thread Deb Lewis
It's totally possible to do this in the Mail app and I've done it lots
of times. it's a little tedious but gets done.
Basically you copy the email addresses from your contacts into a blank
note separating each with a comma. Then you create a new contact, give
it the name of your group and paste the entire contents of your note
into it. It does totally work and I think is less trouble than
introducing another app.

OK, that kind of works. Be sure to not put a space after the comma before the
next address. And when you get the invalid address message, hit send anyway.
a2z is not that hard to use and you can simply add addresses from your contact
list, but to each his/her own.

Hi again.

I don’t listen to podcasts on my iPhone. I’m listening to recordings I’ve made

you’re having issues with, or do other items have this problem?

Re: Is the ESPN fantasy baseball app accessible?

2016-03-26 Thread Brian Fischler
Yes it is a shame about ESPN’s lack of interest in making their apps and
website accessible especially when you consider they are owned by Disney and
ABC as Disney just made a ton of their movies in their app accessible with
audio description and ABC is the only network app that offers description to a
couple of their shows on the iPhone. Yahoo Fantasy was even a presenter at CSUN
so that tells me they really are committed to accessibility

Re: Making A Group List

2016-03-26 Thread Richard Turner

OK, that kind of works. Be sure to not put a space after the comma before the
next address. And when you get the invalid address message, hit send anyway.
a2z is not that hard to use and you can simply add addresses from your contact
list, but to each his/her own.

I just googled offline dictation in ios, and everything I read said it was only
available in the 6s or 6s plus models and that it is not enabled by default.
You have to go into the Settings, General, Keyboard, and download the offline
dictation files and that is only available for English keyboards.
So, I for one will never have access to it since I have no need to spend a lot
of money on a 6s while my 5s is working just fine.
And, I prefer the size of the 5s, so when I need to get a new phone one day,
the iPhone SE or whatever it is called by then, will be my choice. Who knows,
maybe that feature is available in the SE since it has most of the 6s
components?

If I need to restore from computer or iCloud?

2016-03-26 Thread Matthew Bullis
My question is based on some people saying there have been problems with the
latest update, 9.3. I do hear that this mainly affects older devices, and I
have the 6SPlus, but it brought to mind this question. If I do need to restore
from an iCloud or computer backup in the future, will it totally erase the
music and audio books on the phone, or will it just redo the operating system?
I would sure hate to have to download all of that content again. Maybe there's
an app out there that will show you what content is in your apps and allow you
to make a text listing, so that if you do have to restore and redownload, you
could have a better time of knowing what was lost.
Thanks,
Matthew

Re: Accessible Bible Commentary?

2016-03-26 Thread 'Carol Pearson' via VIPhone

Hi Dani,

I'm keeping this on list in case anyone else is interested and the first
two resources are available for use on the iPhone. You may however want
to write me privately if the Braille resource is of interest and/or you
have any further questions.

Take a look at

http://www.bible.com
You will find an app there for the phone and it's pretty well all
accessible.

Also

http://www.biblegateway.com
They have a couple of apps and, though I find them less intuitive, you
may want these to try.

I prefer the First, but do use the second from time to time,
particularly as the JB Philipps "Letters to Young Churches" is only
availble at the Biblegateway site so I tend to use that one directly
when at my computer.

I do have a Matthew Henry commentary in text form. I can't remember
where I got it but it is useful.. Come to think of it, I think it may
have been a Kindle book, for which I use the Kindle app and my phone.

There is another place where Bibles are plentiful and commentaries are
probably available also, but these are only in Braille, so they may not
be of interest to you.

I'm away from home shortly for a week or so and unlikely to be able to
see or deal with mail during a very busy schedule but, if I can help on
my return, I will be glad to do so. Sorry this is a bit rushed!

Blessings!

I have also been conscious of the buzzing, and it may be that it is the iPhone
ear pods that are causing this all showing it to us when of no others do. Any
more thoughts anyone?

I will try a different pair of headphones, but tomorrow will have to do as it's

You may have to temporarily disable the 3 d touch feature. If not, you can make
sure the sensitivity is on firm or medium so that you can still press lightly

Re: Accessible Bible Commentary?

2016-03-26 Thread Keith Bundy
Yes, Faithlife has a long way to go to achieve accessibility. Accessibility on
the phone could be much better, but I've had to do workarounds all my life, so
I'm used to it. I have mentioned enhanced accessibility to them on several
occasions and only seen one improvement on the phone made.

Re: Bar Code Reader App??

2016-03-26 Thread Jewel
QR, as in code, stands for quick response.
I had another go with Digit-Eyes yesterday, and still had no success.
I held the phone near the item and did get the initial single buzz telling me
that it was ready to
start work, but that was the only sound it made, so, obviously, I must be doing
something wrong.
I did realise that I had the screen curtain on [I was getting bugged by moths
of prodigious
proportions when I turned the phone on at night and drawing the curtain removed
that problem].
If it is that, it is strange that Tap Tap See is not affected, but it is still
taking photos and
having them described with no problem.

Richard you are correct. Products purchased in stores have UPC barcodes. I

  Hey man,

Thanks for the laugh as ESPN refuses to make their apps fully accessible. I
have tested it and it is atrocious with VO. Blasting them for years on Twitter
as well as emailing them nicely and they still refuse to respond. They are a
despicable company. The good news is Yahoo Fantasy is 95% accessible and you
can do everything from drafting your team either in an auction league or snake
league to managing your team and adding players all in the app. I have moved
all my leagues to Yahoo and Yahoo was a presenter at CSUN so it tells me they
are committed to keeping things accessible.

Hi, Ralph. I am running IOS 9.3 on an iphone 6. I downloaded Logos from the app

it takes a bit of working around some things, it is pretty much usable. I have

I have never found the version on the computer to be very user-friendly with a

merits of updating

2016-03-26 Thread deidre muccio
Hello all
I'm not sure I've seen much in the way of what this recent update has had to

Re: merits of updating

I do not have a problem moving by headings in my contacts and everything is in
alphabetical order.
Not sure why you are having that problem.

Running ios 9.3 on an iphone 6.

RE: Accessible Bible Commentary?

2016-03-26 Thread Merv Keck
I had Logos 4 Platinum Edition plus a lot of other books and addins when I had
vision. However, once I lost the ability to effectively see the screen I could
no longer use Logos on my PC. Once Libronix sold out to faithLife they lost
interest in accessibility and even reassigned their accessibility programmer to
a different project so I not only never upgraded to five or six Platinum or
beyond, but I uninstalled it before moving to Windows 10. I literally had about
three thousand resources I could no longer access.

Hi, Ralph. I am running IOS 9.3 on an iphone 6. I downloaded Logos from the app
store and don't remember a version number. But it updates regularly and, though
it takes a bit of working around some things, it is pretty much usable. I have
purchased some books through it and now including free resources, have about
116 books in my Logos library.

I have never found the version on the computer to be very user-friendly with a
screen reader. However, if you ever want to know my work-arounds to make it
usable on the iphone, please feel free to email me offbbist and I will be glad
to help you.

Re: Audio description movie rental

2016-03-26 Thread Richard Turner

There shouldn't be. The movies and/or TV shows through Netflix, that I have
watched with audio description just work.
The Martian was the last movie I watched. Then the Marvels Daredevil TV series.

Re: Audio description movie rental

2016-03-26 Thread Michelle Bernstein
Hi Sharonda,

If you go into the Itunes Store and type AD in the search box, it will pull
up movies that offer audio description.
Some of the movies can be purchased or rented, but some can only be
purchased. Some of the movies currently offered with audio description
include "The Martian",
"The Big Short", "Brooklyn", "Sisters", "Bridge of Spies" and "The
Reverant". If you tap on a movie and scroll down to the bottom of the
information provided about that movie, there is a section on accessibility
features.
Make sure that the movie has the letters AD and that the informatiuon
states that the movie offers audio description.

As Richard kindly confirmed in an earlier email, you need to turn on the
audio description setting in the Accessibility part of the Settings App.
Then you should be able to play the movie in the Videos App. I have not
yet tried this, but I understand that this is the proper approach for
movies available in Itunes.

Regards, Michelle

Facebook app question

2016-03-26 Thread Mary Otten
I'm cross posting in case there are people on the Mac list to use iPads but not
iPhone. I often run across items in my Facebook feed which say that person a
and person be have shared a link. When this happens, if you double tap on the
item, you get nothing. If you to finger double tap, you get a choice two
choices really, one of which is more. If you double tap the more choice, you
get to save the link and that's it. There's no way to go directly to the story
you want to read. What am I missing? Is there a way, when you get one of these
items, which more than one person has shared, where you can directly do some
gesture, which will take you to the story you want to read? It's very
irritating.

RE: Mlb at bat and fourth gen apple tv

2016-03-26 Thread Kevin Minor
Hi Wendy.

The app isn't very accessible on the Apple TV 4th gen. I can't find my team
once the game starts, plus the games are in a grid that doesn't make sense to
me. I called MLB up and I was told they're investigating the issue. You can
call them to also report the problem. Their number is 866-800-1275.

Hopefully they'll get this sorted out. Oh yeah, if you pull up the radio feed
of a game on the 4 gen, you need to turn VoiceOver off, because it reads
something that's updating on the screen. Grumble Grumble. Oh well, at least
they haven't broken accessibility on the iPhone app... yet.

Have a blessed day, and don't work too hard.

Re: Mlb at bat and fourth gen apple tv

2016-03-26 Thread Les Kriegler
Hi Wendy,

As you have discovered, since the initial release of the MLB app in early
March, an update came out which broke accessibility for us VO users. Now, it’s
really trial and error to get the right game to play. What has worked for me
thus far is to find a game I want. VO will read the team abbreviation and
hopefully, the inning that the game is currently in. Press Return and
hopefully, you’ll hear the call letters of the TV feed. if you don’t recognize
the call letters, then it’s really trial and error. I haven’t figured out how
to choose a feed, but at least you should be able to listen to the game you
wish. Note that on the third generation Apple TV, MLB Tv works fine, so this
only applies to the fourth generation app.

Re: Audio description movie rental

2016-03-26 Thread Richard Turner

Actually, I bought the Martian, but someone else had rented it and discovered
it was audio described. If you find a movie in iTunes, you will have the option
to either rent or buy.
The sad reality is that Apple still does not say that a movie is audio
described in the details. At least, they sure did not with the Martian.
So there is no guarantee that a movie in iTunes will be audio described, even
if it had audio description in the theater.

Re: Bar Code Reader App??

QR codes are very good for labelling things of your own. I print
them onto labels and affix them to devices in an inventory I maintain
at my work. I also put them on things like the envelope containing my
year's worth of tax materials. Although I use the Digit-Eyes website

app called QuarKode QR Reader because it is much easier to use.

Easily find audio described movies/TV shows, was: Audio description movie rental

2016-03-26 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Richard and others,

In fact, Apple does now say if a movie is audio described. I just searched for
"The Martian" in the iTunes app on my iPhone. Once I double tapped on it, I got
this (I am writing it the way Voiceover reads it when I swipe right through the
screen elements):

The Martian, High Definition, Heading
Pg, image
Closed captioning, image
Audio description, image
$19.99 Buy, button
$5.99 rent, button
4 and a half stars, 238 user reviews
iTunes Extras, included with HD movie purchase, button

Then it goes into the buttons like Details, ReviewsRelated etc.
As you can see, audio description is there and it also reads it on the Apple TV
if you read the entire movie description.

You can also search for all audio described movies or TV shows using your
Mac/PC or iOS device by typing one of the following:

AD
Audio description
Audio descriptions
Video description
Video descriptions

Here is the link to an article from Apple called "Find audio-described content
in the iTunes Store":
https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT205742

Best regards,
Sieghard

Actually, I bought the Martian, but someone else had rented it and discovered
it was audio described. If you find a movie in iTunes, you will have the option
to either rent or buy.
The sad reality is that Apple still does not say that a movie is audio
described in the details. At least, they sure did not with the Martian.
So there is no guarantee that a movie in iTunes will be audio described, even
if it had audio description in the theater.
Richard
