Hi Tony. I am guessing you mean email (not r-mail) … the r and e keys are next to each other. This is a guess … but perhaps give your provider a call. It could be their issue. MC, PRAM reset won?t start it, it?s not a great sign. You can sometimes a) boot off an external boot drive with a system on it or b) try starting it in Target Mode into another computer to see if can access the drive still. But if it doesn?t work in either then I?d say it?s gone I?m afraid. Thank you Peter … but I do not use safari to log in. I do so manually. However I looked where you suggested in Safari. But it tells me it has no password recorded. So back to square one !! Perhaps during the last update something in Message settings changed. I have had that happen with other updates in the past. Sometimes a setting will return to DEFAULT without you changing it. Hi Rod. I switched to my Apple address about 18 months ago. So if I change providers and don’t have a lot of senders to notify. You could use either @mac.com or @icloud.com That is the same solution I have suggested to my family. Hi Tony. I assume you have a virus & internet protector in place ? If so I suggest you run a full scan. It could be your virus protector giving the message. If not may I suggest your buy and install BitDefender. Then ask it to run a full scan. I have been using this for a few years and it has won the BEST award 3 years running. Macs are good at protecting themselves, but NOT foolproof. BitDefender has told me a few times that it has detected and removed a virus. It has also blocked unwelcome entities. (I have an @iinet address that I’ve had for about 22+ years that I’ve been with them - not that I use it very much….but it’s there). I know I have quite a lot of clients that use their @isp address, so definitely going to be a change for a lot of people. Another good reason to have a domain name I guess, or a “free” email address like @iCloud.com, @gmail.com etc- then you can change ISPs without having to tell everyone your email address has changed. (As an aside, the price is about “normal” - as I looked at some of the “email only” hosting plans I have for clients and a 10GB plan is $60 a year per mailbox) Definitely will be something to watch and see what happens with it. Thanks Peter. It was shut down this morning and restarted. She usually leaves it always on. Yet to see now if it happens again. When you say remove from the stack, can it be simply deleted from the list in menu bar? And how is it reinstated ? Hi folks … this has been happening with my wife’s iMac for about 48 hours. It has dropped off WiFi at least 3 times. And I have had to reconnect using the password. Anyone know why this might be happening please ? I just opened to to remind myself.
Upon opening, it finds and lists all internal and external storage
devices.
Then you choose the one you want to scan.

Agreed Daniel. I got an email about 2 months ago from Telstra offering me a “concession” discount of $15 per phone per month. I was on $45 for my phone and $45 for my wife’s phone (so $90 per month) So this would take it down to $30 each. Because I had trouble applying online I phoned them. Each time i typed in my Pension Number it came to a halt. They told me that “concession” only applied to customers on a Disabled Pension. I pointed out that their email simply stated “concession”. I am on an Aged Pension concession card. I told them that I would be reporting this to the ACCC. So they offered me the $15 discount for 12 months and they changed the wording in their promotion. So when the 12 months is up I may be looking for an alternative. On her iPad she would be removing your mobile number, as you mentioned
she’s getting your texts. So you want to remove the mobile number that
the texts are *meant* to be what you want to remove.
Eg if I was doing it on my iPad with no phone number (just an Apple
ID), would be removing my mobile OFF the iPad in the setting I
mentioned.
(Or if no mobile, then the AppleID that the messages are being sent
to).

On your wife’s iPad go to Settings - Messages.
Tap on “Send & Receive”. You’ll see a list od AppleID’s and phone
numbers. Untick the phone number you don’t want her to receive them

This will then remove it from the “list of replies”.
That should then resolve it.

[WAMUG] Changing Lock Screen Wallpaper on new M1 MacBook
Hi folks. My grandson just bought the basic model of the above. He wants to change the Lock Screen Wallpaper but it will not change. He was able to change the “after login” wallpaper, but not the “before login” wallpaper. What I cannot understand is that when I change the wallpaper in System Preferences on my 2017 iMac (Monterey) it changes both before and after login. Any ideas why it will not on his new MacBook please ? I have an external optical drive and I have used Roxio Toast to convert these files to MOV or MP4 files. This was for home videos that I have on DVD’s, so sounds like the same scenario. Hi Walter. I just tried this with mine. When you open Disk Utility you should see a spinning wheel that says “loading” Then on the left of the window is a column showing the disks that loaded. Hi Tony I have an Apple external Super Drive (I think it is called). Plugs into Mac via USB. I occasionally use it for writing DVDs. And it has always worked fine. Hi Walter. If it is formatted for Mac (journaled) I don’t think Windows will recognise it. I have a separate external drive that is formatted for DOS to use with Windows PCs. You can use Apple Disk Utility to configure a drive for DOS if you wish. I agree with Pete ..it sounds like a hack of some kind. Do you use a virus and web protection software ? If you do, try running a full scan. If not I have used Bitdefender for Mac for a few years. It consistently gets top of the list in tests and it has saved me a few times. It also includes a VPN which is free for the first 200MB per day. You have the option of upgrading the VPN to a paid version but I have never done that. I usually switch on the VPN when doing banking. But only the paid version which is about $60.00. I heard that new federal rules were initiated effective last December regarding this. Apparently telcos MUST make every effort to prevent phone or email scams getting to their customers. But I have NOT seen any evidence of this yet. It’s like petrol companies failing to purify the fuel they sell. Hi John. Go to iCloud.com <http://icloud.com/> on your Mac. Login using your Apple ID. You should be able to set up Calendar from there. And also add any devices. Each device gets the same data from one source (iCloud). So as long as they are all using iCloud they should all match. I found it a bit fiddly (for Apple) to set up originally, but fine once done. Mmmm ….. Facebook sounds reasonable Rod. But I guess only if it makes life easier for those wonderful people running our group. The two most invasive things I have stayed away from are Facebook and Google. And so do many of my family and some friends. But lately I registered once again with Facebook in order to use Marketplace. I am very surprised and pleased by the changes they have made. This time I have NOT been inundated with “please be my friend” and a myriad of other unwanted messages. [WAMUG} WhatsApp on iPhone SE Original ?
Hi folks. Yes I am still around !! For some strange reason the following has started happening on my wife’s iPhone SE. When she receives a WhatsApp Voice Call the phone does not ring. Instead she gets a Missed Call Notification in the messages section. We have found that it will only ring if WhatsApp is on. This means the caller must first let her know to turn on WhatsApp before calling her. WhatsApp messages still give a tone, so that is not a problem. I have done much DuckDuckGoing and cannot find a resolution. It never did this before a couple of weeks ago and my iPhone 12 does not do this. Any suggestions would be most welcome please ? Hi Rosemary. If this was me, I would use Disk Utility to Erase my Time Machine backup. Then start from scratch. Thanks Daniel. I am quite happy with the current version though. I bought my first CCC late last year when SuperDuper failed to keep up with Big Sur. My monthly backups then jumped from about 20 minutes to 6 minutes. This is the one I keep locked in my safe. Time Machine looks after my everyday stuff. Hi again Tony. About a year ago my Epson printer just stopped scanning. I discovered that Epson had stopped making driver updates for that model. Hi Graeme. I just discovered only two days ago that you can scan using Notes on the iPhone. It is in the menu within Notes and can produce a PDF document.
