Re: [Wicket-user] Fully modular web ui
Interesting indeed, but in my case I need exactly the opposite. Geoserver is an open source WFS server that has recently been restructured as a set of modules, and I want each module to be totally pluggable, that is, build the module and drop it in the web application, done. This works beautifully for services thanks to Spring, and for configuration web pages built as Wicket pages (and located thru extension points declared in the Spring context), but sometimes we do have demo modules that are mostly (but not completely) made of static pages where javascript talks to server side services offered by other modules (openlayers and mapbuilder are examples of this approach). I just wanted to make sure I can pacakge those in the same way as the other modules, so that when the user does not want them anymore he only has a jar to remove from its jetty/tomcat deploy. We are trying to offer an easy to work with server for the user, at the expense of some more complications on the programmer side, and yes, we are aware serving with Apache would be faster, but we leave it to people willing to do a high perf deploy, at the moment we are more worried to give a smooth experience to people who are just trying it out. Cheers Andrea Aime igor.vaynberg wrote: sometimes its nice to have static stuff served via apache or what not, css, images, js files, blah blah. what we do is have a static dir for these files and under that we have a dir named after the modules class name. we have an applicationsettings bean in spring context that other beans import that contains the web path to this static dir so with a simple attribute modifier you can build a link/img/whatever tag to point to the location of the static resource. -Igor On 9/1/06, Matej Knopp [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi, sure, this is possible. With wicket you don't have to put a single thing in your web directory or WEB-INF (except of course declaring one wicket servlet (or filter in wicket 2) in web.xml). All resources can be stored in classpath. Markup files (html) for components and pages are stored in classpath next to the component / pages classes. Resources such as javascripts and css can be stored in classpath too you can use (Compressed)PackageResourceReference and HeaderContributor. Take a look at wicket-examples to see how to use those. -Matej aaime74 wrote: Hi, I'm trying to develop an app that sports fully modular web ui, that is, one that allows the developer/user to simply drop jars in the classpath to get new functionality. The idea is to have the ui split into maven modules, and keep everything in the classpath. Extension points can be provided by each module by looking in a spring context for implementors of certain interfaces (these could be factories, or simply WebPage subclasses declared as prototype beans). Now, I'm wondering how one could handle modules that are mostly static, that is, made of static pages, javascripts, images and the like, given the fact that I don't want to put stuff in WEB-INF. Is there an easy way to work with these? I know I can refer to in-classpath resources from Components, but what about a network of static html pages that do refer css, images and so on, for example javascript apps like openlayers (http://openlayers.org/). Can i stick them into the classpath as well? Best regards Andrea Aime PS: I do want to keep everything among the sources because I don't want to rely on a build time file copy just to gather up the required files from the various WEB-INFs that I could locate in each module. Just have the web module depend on what you think you need and run it, done :-) - Using Tomcat but need to do more? Need to support web services, security? [Wicket-user] Wicket coding style
Hi all, Is there a decent resource somewhere on how to do things 'properly' (aka nice and clean :) in wicket? I can always think of quite a few ways to solve a problem but since I am totally new to wicket I am not sure which way is the right one.. Example: In a custom panel I want to create a link to another page. Since I want to reuse my panel, that link should be dynamic. Is it better to have a constructor argument for the class to link to? Or should I better have the panel only accept a custom model that has a getter for the class? Or is there an even better way? :) Thanks a lot in advance, Che __ DISCLAIMER: This e-mail message is intended for the addressee(s) or authorized recipient only. [Wicket-user] image l10n and path and submit tracking
I've been investigating the issue of localized images and their location in the application folders and I haven't found a simple way to handle it. I've taken a look at SubmitLink but when I add an image using :add(new Image("cancelButtonImage", new ResourceModel("button.cancel"))where button.cancel is defined in a property file as : CANCEL.gifbut to the image file name is added the page package and I prefer to keep the images in a separate directory. So, How could I deal with localized images and their location? I'm using a set up where the pages are in the same folder as the page classes. For the second problem I need to track everytime a submit occurs or a link is clicked, how could I do that? I checked the javadocs and found onEndRequest but noticed that is deprecated, also I tried onDetach but it's also called when the button is displayed. I thought of adding a superclass that on its onSubmit() would log some information and then sublasses would have to call super.onSubmit() but it doesn't look a good solution. Thanks in advance,Jaime. Now, I'm wondering how one could handle modules that are mostly static, that is, made of static pages, _javascript_s, images and the like, given the fact that I don't want to put stuff in WEB-INF. Is there an easy way to work with these? I know I can refer to in-classpath resources from Components, but what about a network of static html pages that do refer css, images and so on, for example _javascript_ apps like openlayers (http://openlayers.org/). Can i stick them into the classpath as well? Best regards Andrea Aime PS: I do want to keep everything among the sources because I don't want to rely on a build time file copy just to gather up the required files from the various WEB-INFs that I could locate in each module. Re: [Wicket-user] image l10n and path and submit tracking
The constructor comes from this : Image(java.lang.Stringid, IModelmodel) and it works, however it requires the CANCEL.gif file be located in the same directory of the html page class (it prepends the package name to the image file). This is an example of a more general case of where one should put the html files and the images contained in them, so one can have images in different locales? For the submit and link tracking, the Javadocs say that is not recomended to override this method besides it would work for submits only. Re: [Wicket-user] Utf-8 woes... (OT)
Hi Per Actually we've had a lot of problems here(denmark) first with eclipse encoding of files, eclipse on windows autmaticly encodes in ISO-8859-1. Worked than one through by specifing it via the shortcut for eclipse (vm args) we forced utf-8 on it. Then for a long period we had what we thought was a potential bug in wicket. Until one day I used our OWA(Outlook web access) it turned out to be a bug in IE 6. Somehow IE when caching throws away the correct encoding and defaults to ISO-8859-1 which gave strange characters. This was fixed by setting html encoding to ISO-8859-1, since we do not expect any body but western styled keyboards/encoding to use our site. regards Nino -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] on behalf of Per Ejeklint Sent: Mon 04-09-2006 20:51 To: wicket-user@lists.sourceforge.net Cc: Subject:Re: [Wicket-user] Utf-8 woes... The part that confuses me the most is the use of the property model in the subclasses Label. public class TestLabel extends Label { private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L; private PropertyModel m_isSuccessfulPropertyModel; public TestLabel( final String id, final String label, final PropertyModel propModel ) { super( id, label ); m_isSuccessfulPropertyModel = propModel; } @Override protected void onComponentTag( final ComponentTag tag ) { super.onComponentTag( tag ); final ValueMap map = tag.getAttributes(); final boolean isSuccessful = (Boolean)m_isSuccessfulPropertyModel.getObject( this ); map.put( class, getLabelTagClass( isSuccessful ) ); } } And I populate my item in the repeater like this. add( new DataView( testResults, new TestResultDataProvider( testResults ) ) { private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L; private boolean m_isSuccessful = true; public void populateItem( final Item item ) { final TestResult testResult = (TestResult)item.getModelObject(); final boolean isSuccessful = testResult.isSuccessful(); setSuccessful( isSuccessful ); final PropertyModel isSuccessfulPropertyModel = new PropertyModel( this, isSuccessful ); final Date lastTimeExecuted = new Date( testResult.getLastTimeExecuted() ); final Long testDuration = testResult.getExecutionTime(); item.add( new TestLabel( test.name, testResult.getName(), isSuccessfulPropertyModel ) ); } public void setSuccessful( final boolean isSuccessful ) { m_isSuccessful = isSuccessful; } public boolean isSuccessful() { return m_isSuccessful; } } ); What am I missing here?
