I don’t know if AF24 uses standard 802.3af/at or proprietary and how much power, but there are 802.3af/at POEs that can be powered from 24V and convert to 48 or 56 volts internally, for example: http://www.balticnetworks.com/tycon-power-18-36vdc-in-56vdc-802-3af-at-out-35w-dcdc.html

Well, the difference in free space loss at 20km vs 2 miles should be somewhere around 16db so going with that number (which is similar to our ~2 mile AF24 link) and adding in an extra 2db for the HD, that gets you about -73, so it should work... as long as the weather is clear and nobody sneezes.

The AF24 (don't know about the HD) uses a "passive" 48V injector that uses all 8 wires. So it needs magnetics on the signal wires. AFAIK, it is neither 802.3af or 802.3at. It will handle up to ~~ 58V without letting the smoke out. bp On 9/14/2015 11:09 AM, Ken
