T8s give off about 100 lumens per watt. Really good LEDS may be 120 or 140. So yes they are a bit better but it is not enormous. Perhaps 30% savings at most. But never having to change a bulb again is a fantastic reason for doing this. I don't buy the reduction in heat load too much. If

I came into this thread late, but I was once told that the replacements where you remove the ballast and wire line voltage to the ends are 'not allowed' because they change the UL rating of the Fixture, and therefore could be pointed to in a fire. I'm not sure if that is actually true or not.
