2018-04-13 Thread Brian Webster

One to consider is Google Voice.

You sign up for a free phone number account but it also has a chat client. Can
be app based on the phone or browser based as well. One nice feature of the
Google Voice chat is that you can also be texting/chatting with mobile users
just like texting between phones. Make conversations, with those in the office
easier because they don't have to use their phone, they can be on the computer
using a full keyboard. Supports full MMS, pictures, hyperlinks etc. There is a
chrome plugin as well. Side benefit is that is have the voice/phone features
including voicemail and voicemail to text transcription, call screening and
call forwarding based on rules or no answer conditions.

Still is the evil empire and them tracking al that you do so there is that
drawback

With the demise of AIM, and not being on any social media sites, what's
available for Instant messaging apps these days? Basically so I can send the
boss Hyperlinks without having to do everything through email
while we're on an intercom call.It looks like Trillian.im offers a
service that is ad free for $2/user/mo But I thought I saw that there was a
$10 minimum somewhere.

2018-04-13 Thread George Skorup
Most of the MDU OTA we do is 40-60 miles out of Chicago. Some need a
pre-amp at the antenna. Most 10+ story buildings get decent signal
without it.

Distro amp > splitters > risers > 25db taps > 15db taps > 10 > 5 etc.
Depends on the number of units, distance from the amp, etc.

That's what I recall off the top of my head. I don't do much with that
stuff. We have minions for that.

>From the Salt Lake Tribune this morning:

On Wednesday, Heinz asked American condiment lovers to decide— through a
Twitter poll — if it should start selling Mayochup, a premade blend of
mayonnaise and ketchup, in the United States. (According to the Evening
Standard, a British newspaper, it’s been sold in Persian Gulf countries, like
Dubai, for a couple of years.) The Twitter feed for Heinz
Ketchup(@HeinzKetchup_US) posted this poll Wednesday: “Want #mayochup in
stores? 500,000 votes for “yes” and we’ll release it to you saucy Americans.”

Less than 24 hours after the poll was posted, more than 470,000 people had
voted— with 55 percent approving of the product and 45 percent saying “Nah,
I’ll make my own.”

As anyone with a connection to Utah and its signature foods knows, the founder
of Arctic Circle restaurants created this pink concoction in the 1950s as an
alternative dipping sauce for french fries. Since then, almost every Utah
restaurant has developed its own version using ketchup and mayonnaise— and
sometimes pickle relish and spices.

While huge in Utah, fry sauce remains mostly a mystery outside the state.

Same for me, I was kind of on the fence about going, because we're wireless
only and that's not likely to be changing any time soon.

The fiber stuff is certainly interesting to me, and I'd like to meet the
group again as well, but I'm not sure that would justify a trip out there
during one of the busier parts of the year. I was hoping a could find
another excuse to be in the general area around that time (like, say,
taking a vacation... I hear people do that kind of thing), but I hadn't
quite gotten to the point of figuring out how to make that work.

Count another in this wireless-but-looking category. I was just looking
for the registration page, and noticed it looked things were cancelled.
Then this thread popped up.

Re: [AFMUG] Did I ruin summer animal farm?

2018-04-13 Thread David Coudron
We are a wireless only company, but very interested in, and looking ahead to
fiber. We expect it will be part of our make up at some time, and this seems
like the right group to interact with as we learn. We have gained so much
from this group, we are also interested in meeting the folks as Jon mentions.
Maybe instead of a wireless track, it is a track focused on when is the right
time to start moving some wireless to fiber and how to do it economically.
That would hit right home with us even though we are all wireless today.

Summer is just tough for us, even with the longer days, there isn’t enough
daylight to get everything done once the ground thaws 

David Coudron

2018-04-13 Thread chuck
I really don't feel comfortable asking Ditch Witch and Vermeer to mobilize a
bunch of equipment and people for less than probably 25 or so. Just not
fair to them. Especially due to the fact that the majority will not be
local enough to turn into a local sales opportunity for them. I know they
will come out in spite of that fact, but I have worked with these guys for
years and like to make sure I am not leaning on them too hard.

As anyone with a connection to Utah and its signature foods knows, the

Does anyone have a copy of the webpass ROE (right of entry) that the HOA signs?
Their web site says you can download it but there's no link.

https://webpass.net/faq/residential/23

Does anyone have a similar doc they'd like to share for the roof rights and
access for MDU projects?

Thanks,

[AFMUG] OT Fry sauce

2018-04-13 Thread chuck

With the demise of AIM, and not being on any social media sites, what's
available for Instant messaging apps these days? Basically so I can send the

while we're on an intercom call.It looks like Trillian.im offers a

Non threaded, limited "free" history, utterly useless for multipronged
projects, its only good for fanbois

We use the shit out of trillian connected to our openfire server. Spark with
openfire works well but you can only be logged into your account from one
device at a time, hence trillian. I bought a permanent license for my client
for like 60 bucks, was worth it plus it retains images. You dont have to
connect back to another server like we do, but this way i control our users and
log the communication

With the demise of AIM, and not being on any social media sites, what's
available for Instant messaging apps these days? Basically so I can send the
boss Hyperlinks without having to do everything through email
while we're on an intercom call. It looks like Trillian.im offers a
service that is ad free for $2/user/mo But I thought I saw that there was a $10
minimum somewhere.

Re: [AFMUG] AirOS partial config?

2018-04-13 Thread Matt Hoppes
Change a few things on several hundred radios without UNMS? So you’re planning
to log into several hundred radios by hand, hit upload, hit apply and verify it
came back?

How about just write a quick Python script to SSH into the radio, sed the
config file with the changes you want to make, and save.

You’ll then have a script to make mass changes in the future. Not hard at all.

For those with simple configs it's probably fine.

If you have several interfaces and vlans per CPE with a few bridges,
it's more of a pain (from experience).
