A neat product (which we couldn't use around here) would be a 5G 450 AP
with 900MHz OFDM PTP built in.  Although you would have to use all the
available 900Mhz spectrum to make it worthwhile.
Perhaps a nLOS 3.65 or LTE PTP combined with 450 AP would work in some
areas.

900 in a lite configuration would be ideal for us.

[AFMUG] Dual Pol Feed Horn

2018-05-07 Thread Brian Sullivan
I'm looking for a replacement of this type of 5GHz feed horn.  I had
some water ingress and the inside looks corroded.
Since this is the only part that is bad, i'd like to buy just this
piece.  Need 2 or 3 if possible.
I believe this is from a Laird/PacWireless brand dish.  Google has
failed me once again, I can't find any in-stock or that don't cost more
than a new dish.

I've found that in the effort to make gigabit things cheap,
one of the main ways people cut corners are to use the worlds
cheapest magnetics which mostly work. This is amazingly
prevalent in the PoE market, as I've found that it's pretty
common for the cheap vendors to use a chinese knockoff of an
already questionable set of magnetics. Usually *not* rated
for PoE, but works in many circumstances. I really wish I
wasn't a vendor because I'd do a set of videos about some of
my competition and the horrible sins they've committed in
this regards.
In this case it looks like they might taken a 'dual 10/100'
magnetics and used them for gigabit which assuming all the
specs are fine might actually work since 'dual' really means
'4 pair'. Is there one set of these for each port?

Can you get 2 of the 4-port modules, or 1 module and a controller,

You mention surge protection, does that mean it has integral surge

The compatibility chart show it can work with 56V APs like
450i/450m, as well as 29V APs like 450. I’m assuming it’s whatever

It certainly seems like a defensive maneuver. Although we have been
asking for since what, 2011? The radio isn't shipping yet and I believe
they still have to certify with the FCC before they can put out a spec
sheet. One distributor I spoke to said August availability.
I did ask the same question on the forum, hoping to get somewhere with
an adapter. I think the UBNT employee that responded doesn't know all
that much about it either and I agree, came off sounding a little
strange. Also strange he would tell us about Jirous, the first I have
heard mention of it.

A pissing match between Mimosa and UBNT is good for WISPs. :-)

We also ran into issues with burst allocation and burst rates. In
order for the high priority channel to work correctly on 450 platform

Hello Cambium,

At the MidWest-IX launch party last night, several of us Indiana
WISPs compared notes on the ‘cold weather’ problems we are seeing
with ePMPs. It was very interesting to learn we are experience
identical problems across the spectrum.

We all understand this is a DRAM issue with certain units you
have identified. We also understand the firmware RC that has
been made available to fix this short term.

The bottom line is we are very frustrated and grow tired of
dealing with it.

Our concern is simple. If your software fix ‘degrades’ the
performance of the product or triggers other issues, as it has
been suggested, we would prefer a full recall and replacement
program immediately.

If the suggestion that the fix will degrade the product
performance is inaccurate and not cause other issues, I would
like for this to be made public.

Thank you,

Although replacing 100 450 AP's is cheaper than ePMP. :-/

Re: [AFMUG] The perfect antenna for your new 900 MHz 450

2016-01-15 Thread Brian Sullivan

We too have 100+ used Yagi's in inventory we would love to re-deploy.
Would it be hard to fabricate a holder for two M2 or KPP Yagis?
Such a holder would provide adequate (12"?) spacing as Chuck mentioned
and rotate them + or - 45.

We would then use N to RP-SMA cables to the SM.

So I was wondering.

We have hundreds of old M2 Yagi’s left from our old canopy 900 days.

Could we use 2 per 450 install, one vertical and one horizontal?

How far apart would they need to be?

concerned. We have ordered more APs to stack on there for

more offload of the site. The other sectors are 50Mb,20Mb or less
I asked the other day if we could just add another Tower in that area LOL

all good stuff from Sean and Josh
We are doing something a little different by offloading all
those older subs to 450 and any smaller sites with <20 subs we
use Epmp for
deployment and Rf planning is snap because of our scale we are
able to do this without stepping on our towers with 450.
Eventually if the small site grows to larger than 50 we will over
build it with 450 and start migrating subs to larger capacity
platform.

I just did a Sub inventory report on one tower we have with 5
sectors of pmp450 3.65Ghz gear and we have 480 subs on there
We feed that beast with a ptp800 and ptp650 link LOL I am looking
at upgrading the router from a RB1100AH to a CCR to help
with flow.
 Love this stuff :)

After ePMP version 2.5 the radios can do 2.5ms frames. This is

there's a good bit of documentation that helps.

Use ePMP and do what you were doing before. You can also
match settings so ePMP will sync with FSK.

13.1.2 and above brings a lot of needed performance, I would upgrade at
least to that.

Any chance this is a polarity issue? All of our dished SMs are
connecting fine. I seem to remember an issue with some 450APs having
H and V swapped internally.

Re: [AFMUG] Cambium RMA Form Broke again?

I heard that if you don't get something back within 20 or so minutes to
re-submit the ticket.
And if they stop working on your ticket and you haven't heard anything,
re-submit a new ticket explaining the same issue.

Re: [AFMUG] UBNT vs ePMP Signal Strength?

2015-09-10 Thread Brian Sullivan
I am not sure why the signals would read differently, but i'm curious
how you arrived at the 60 to 70% throughput increase.
Other than the ability to sync, I thought the main difference between
UBNT's M series and ePMP was the user interface??

On 9/10/2015 2:06 PM, Christopher Gray wrote:
I just changed two low bandwidth 5 MHz width PTP links from Rocket M2
radios to ePMP 2.4 GHz non-sync radios. The "signal strength" is about
10 dB lower with the ePMP radios. Do they use a different mechanism to
calculate signal strength?

Link 1:

  * 2x Rocket Dish RD-2G24
  * Antennas were not re-aimed when switching radios
  * Radio outputs are maximized on both systems to FCC PTP limits
  * UBNT signal read -62 dBm Tx / -61 dBm Rx
  * ePMP singal reads -72 dBm Tx / -70 dBm Rx

Link 2:

  * 1x Rocket Dish RD-2G24
  * 1x L-Com DPD 18 dBi Dish
  * Antennas were not re-aimed when switching radios
  * Radio outputs are maximized on both systems to FCC PTP limits
  * UBNT signal read -70 dBm Tx / -72 dBm Rx
  * ePMP singal reads -80 dBm Tx / -82 dBm Rx

Both links were stable, and both links appear stable now. Both ePMP
links have 60-70% more throughput. Do I just need to adjust my mental
meter 10 db? Are the new signals actually as concerning as they feel?

Thanks - Chris
